Forced To Become The Devil’S Succubus Lover Chapter 19
byThe next morning, a knock sounded on the door. Su Sheng opened it and saw Loren leaning against the wall, fiddling with a rose.
Seeing him, Loren instantly flashed a smile and called out warmly, “Norton!”
A rose floated tremulously toward him.
Su Sheng took a step back, flicked the approaching rose away with his fingertip, and lowered his eyes slightly, saying coldly, “What is it?”
Loren seemed surprised by the drastic change in his attitude. He frowned and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Su Sheng didn’t want to talk and slammed the door shut with a loud clap.
After a moment, a persistent knock sounded again. Loren, holding a piece of cake and with two wine glasses floating beside him, poked his head in with concern. “I think we have some misunderstandings. May I come in to talk?”
Su Sheng paused, rubbed his brow, and ultimately chose to step aside and let him enter.
Loren immediately smiled. As soon as he was inside, he got straight to the point. “Norton, I apologize. My father told a small lie for me. It was clumsy; he’s actually not very good at lying, but for my sake…”
Loren tapped his forehead with his fingertip, looking troubled, as if there was something he couldn’t bring himself to say.
Su Sheng raised an eyebrow, turned, found a place to sit, and motioned for Loren to continue.
“He didn’t mean any harm, he was just worried about me.”
At this, Loren’s expression became somewhat awkward, which piqued Su Sheng’s curiosity. He asked, “What is your father worried about?”
“This…” Loren stared at him for a moment, a hint of bitterness spreading across his lips, looking at him with an expression Su Sheng couldn’t decipher.
Su Sheng’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. He pursed his lips, wanting to look away, but controlled himself and said, “If you don’t want to say it, then don’t.”
“Then, Norton,” Loren blinked, “would you like to go for a stroll by the Ice Lake with me?”
Su Sheng: “The Ice Lake?”
Loren: “It’s very beautiful.”
Su Sheng nodded.
The Kingdom of Phrygis had a large Ice Lake situated outside the main City-State. Loren led him onto the surface of the lake. The ice here was marvelous; stepping on it created ripples, and it was transparent, allowing them to see the fish below.
With every step, a fish circled beneath his foot. Su Sheng took several steps, followed by a school of small fish.
Loren followed behind, laughing. “These fish are all little Elves in disguise. They can understand what we say. Do you want to try talking to them?”
Su Sheng said calmly, “I am not that bored.”
But when he quietly moved further away from Loren, he cast a silencing spell, fixed his gaze on the ground, and whispered, “Circle.”
“Flip over.”
“Line up.”
The fish below wagged their tails, circling him affectionately, seemingly overjoyed to see him. They really could understand human speech. Su Sheng couldn’t help but let a small smile touch his lips.
It wasn’t until he caught sight of Loren approaching in his peripheral vision that he adjusted his collar, erasing all traces of his recent foolishness, and his gaze returned to its usual coldness.
Su Sheng looked around and asked casually, “This place is so close to the main City-State, why is no one here?”
Loren smiled slightly. “Because this lake belongs only to me.”
Su Sheng was stunned. His heart felt as if it had been poked by something soft. He instinctively covered his chest, his eyes filled with a complicated darkness.
He was standing on the ice, yet his heart felt warmed by hot water, radiating heat all over. He just didn’t know how long this warmth could last in this icy landscape. Once the warm water was gone, the heat would dissipate. Would it last long enough for him to walk off this vast, endless lake? He didn’t know.
He didn’t dare take the risk.
After a while, Loren asked again, “Are you having fun?”
Su Sheng touched his earlobes, which were red from the cold, and said flatly, “Just average.”
Loren chuckled softly, saying nothing. At this moment, he was like a patient fisherman, quietly waiting for the fish to bite.
No one knew how long it would take for the prey to take the bait, but the hunter’s patience was long, especially for a fisherman. Yet, no one could predict whether the next catch would be a docile small fish or a large fish weighing dozens of pounds, capable of dragging the person into the water. At that point, it would be hard to say who was the hunter and who was the prey.
It was nightfall when they returned to the palace. Loren walked beside him and said, “Shall we leave tomorrow?”
Su Sheng frowned. “Are you going to follow me?”
Loren stated matter-of-factly, “To repay you for helping me get the Silver Star Orchid and bringing me back.”
Su Sheng said coldly, “No need for repayment. We are even.”
“That won’t do, Norton. I keep my personal and public affairs separate. You helped me twice, and I’ve only helped you once. If I don’t settle this debt, I would be ashamed before the God of Light.” Loren said with a grin. If his tone hadn’t been so casual, Su Sheng might have almost believed him.
But in the end, Su Sheng compromised, though he wasn’t sure why.
The palace was brightly lit at night, and servants bustled through the corridors. Suddenly, Su Sheng’s gaze narrowed, locking onto a maid ahead.
He rushed forward silently. The maid seemed to have noticed something too, dropped the tray in her hands, and ran. As her skirt swished, a long, heart-shaped tail was revealed.
“A Succubus.”
Su Sheng said coldly. Passing a stone statue of a knight, he easily pulled the sword from the statue and chased after her.
At the end of the corridor, the Succubus vanished, and Loren arrived belatedly.
Su Sheng drew a tracking spell on the ground. Following the magic, Su Sheng broke through a window, his sword pointing directly at the Succubus trembling in the bushes.
He walked closer, asking, “Why is there a Succubus in the palace?”
Loren shrugged, indicating he had no idea.
The female Succubus huddled in the corner, shaking uncontrollably, but when Loren showed his face, her eyes were filled only with endless terror.
Su Sheng approached. The female Succubus fell to her knees, kowtowing and pleading, “Demon King, please spare me, please spare me.”
Su Sheng turned, scrutinizing Loren, who merely smiled indifferently.
“Do you believe her?” Loren took a step toward him, asking with a smile. Su Sheng didn’t speak, just watched Loren. After a long stare, Su Sheng turned and pinned the Succubus to the wall with his sword.
“You better not be lying to me, or I will definitely kill you.”
He said coldly, dropping the sword where it was, and walked toward his room.
Loren remained behind, looking at the mess on the ground. His eyes darkened, and he smiled without warmth. “Sala, you have great audacity.”
At the same time, Loren moved his fingers, and an order was sent down to the Succubus City-State.
The content of the order was—
Whoever brings the head of Sala to the Demon King will be the next City-State Lord.
In the morning, the two left the palace and used a teleportation array to reach the foot of the Holy Mountain.
Ahead was a village. Su Sheng used his disguise magic on himself again to ensure everything was foolproof before walking over.
Unlike the people they had encountered before, almost everyone here was filled with fear. Su Sheng’s heart sank the more he looked. Finally, he grabbed a passing old man and asked, “Where is Vial?”
Vial was the Holy Knight who protected the Holy Mountain.
Mentioning Vial, the old man looked even more heartbroken and despairing, his voice trembling as he said, “The Knight Lord, the Knight Lord is missing!”
Su Sheng’s expression changed several times, then he asked, “When did this happen? Why did he go missing?”
“J-just a few days ago. As for the reason, I don’t know.”
“Oh, I remember now! They say a group of demons came to the peak of the Holy Mountain. The Knight Lord left the town to meet the enemy to protect us, and then he disappeared!”
Su Sheng was focused on listening to the reason and didn’t notice Loren’s eyes flicker beside him.
“What are you two here for?” the old man asked hoarsely.
Su Sheng didn’t answer. He pulled out a gold coin and handed it to the old man, telling him to leave and not to mention that he had met them.
Loren scoffed beside him. Su Sheng asked him what he was scoffing at, and Loren said mockingly, “One gold coin is enough to silence him? Do you believe that tomorrow the whole village won’t know we’ve arrived?”
“It doesn’t matter, we aren’t short on money anyway,” Su Sheng said carelessly. “Right now, we need to find Vial first.”
Loren suddenly fell silent. Su Sheng didn’t have the energy to bother with him and continued walking deeper into the snowy mountains.
As they walked, the white mist they exhaled grew thicker. Loren suggested setting up a magic shield to isolate the cold, but Su Sheng refused, saying:
“No, we must conserve our magic power to deal with unforeseen circumstances.”
Loren took off his own coat, placed it over Su Sheng, and laughed. “What are you afraid of? We are people who came from The Abyss. They are just a bunch of demons, aren’t they? If you’re cold, don’t endure it. Set up the shield first; I’ll handle the rest.”
Su Sheng glanced at Loren and asked, “If you give me your coat, won’t you be cold?”
Loren smiled. “Norton, are you worried about me?”
Su Sheng’s face went cold. “Don’t flatter yourself.”
Su Sheng set up a magic shield that enclosed both of them, blocking the cold wind. However, the snow on the Holy Mountain was a penetrating type of magic, and the shield couldn’t stop it, so the temperature inside the shield couldn’t rise.
After walking for a long time, Loren suddenly reached out and brushed a layer of snow from Su Sheng’s head.
“Are you really not going to rest?” Loren suggested worriedly.
Seeing Loren about to reach out again, Su Sheng instinctively took a step back. This time, it was Loren who was startled. He shook his head and laughed wryly. Su Sheng glanced behind him. “While we still have strength, we should hurry.”
Loren sighed helplessly. “Fine, you are just stubborn.”
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the two finally reached the peak of the Holy Mountain. This was where the Holy Knight had gone missing, but the surroundings were a vast expanse of white. Even if there were traces, they had long been covered by the snow, leaving no shadow behind.
Su Sheng used tracking magic but found nothing.
After a while, Loren called him over, saying he had found something.
Su Sheng approached and saw there was indeed a faint line of footprints, but the footprints led toward a cliff edge.
“It seems the person you are looking for is not in a good situation,” Loren said with feigned concern, though the amusement in his eyes was practically spilling out.
After a moment of contemplation, Su Sheng looked down the cliff. “I need to go down there. You wait for me in the town.”
“…Huh?” Loren’s triumphant smile froze on his face. He seemed not to have heard clearly and asked again in disbelief.
He looked at Su Sheng, his face calm, but he spoke slowly, every word laced with suppressed anger. “So you are willing to disregard your own safety for the sake of a stranger?”
