Forced To Become The Devil’S Succubus Lover Chapter 16
byChapter 16
Su Sheng unrolled the parchment he carried, which listed all the mission targets. After crossing off “Ape King,” who was ranked first, the remaining targets were the Holy Spirit Knight of the Holy Mountain and the White Dragon King of Dragon Island.
The Holy Mountain was far to the north of the continent, meaning he would have to change his route.
Just as he was about to put away the parchment, Loren leaned closer, his gaze lightly sweeping over the document. It paused at the words “Holy Mountain,” and he smiled faintly.
“Norton, don’t forget what you promised me.”
Su Sheng froze.
Had he promised him anything?
He reviewed his memories from beginning to end and confirmed he hadn’t. He frowned and said, “I don’t recall promising you anything.”
Then, as if remembering something, he continued, “Besides, your body has recovered now. I think you should have no problem traveling alone.”
The smile on Loren’s lips stiffened. He closed the distance, placing a hand on Su Sheng’s shoulder, and asked casually, “Then what would it take for you to agree to travel with me?”
Su Sheng expressionlessly brushed Loren’s hand off his shoulder and said flatly, “Unless you are injured again and unable to walk.”
Loren regretfully lowered his hand and said, “Very well.”
.
After leaving Silver Moon Bay, Su Sheng and Loren parted ways. Time was relatively ample, so Su Sheng traveled at a leisurely pace, taking the opportunity to enjoy much of the scenery along the way.
There was only one problem: when a silver wolf rushed toward him on the road, his first reaction was not to blast it with a magic light sphere, but to immediately erect a protective barrier.
Two light magic protective barriers lit up simultaneously, but one of them missed its target. Su Sheng stared blankly at his hand for two seconds. When he realized what he had done, his face gradually turned ashen.
The image of the arrow shooting toward him when he first entered Silver Moon Bay, and Loren’s protective stance against the ape soldiers, flashed uncontrollably through his mind.
When he rested, he would think of other things: the meticulous care, the teasing laughter in Echo Valley…
He tightly gripped his staff, pounding it heavily into the ground in a fit of anger. First, disbelief, then, inability to accept.
Why was he experiencing emotions like “dependence” and “nostalgia,” feelings exclusive to the weak?
The golden light magic protective barrier glowed brightly in the darkness. The silver wolf was gnawing at the shield, and Su Sheng did not kill it immediately. Instead, he lashed out with the staff handle as if venting his frustration.
The silver wolf was struck repeatedly, its face bruised, and it retreated, letting out a mournful howl before running away.
Su Sheng remained consumed by anger, mixed with a trace of almost imperceptible shame, stemming from this reliance born of another person. The fury stained the corners of his eyes.
After chasing away the silver wolf, Su Sheng took two deep breaths and, in a foul mood, hurried toward the nearest teleportation array.
.
When he arrived, a crowd was gathered around one of the teleportation arrays. Su Sheng initially intended to ignore it, but as he passed the group, a blood-stained, dusty crown visible through a gap in the crowd made him stop.
Several voices mingled nearby.
“Oh my God, what happened? This person’s leg is broken.”
“Looks like he might be a prince from some kingdom. If we save him, maybe we’ll get a reward.”
Someone nudged the person next to them.
“You go save him.”
“No, you go.”
“You saw him first, why don’t you go?”
“Who knows if he’s really a prince! If he tries to extort me, I won’t get a reward, and I’ll end up losing my own money!”
The crown, which was so familiar he could recognize it blindfolded, told Su Sheng that the “prince” they were talking about must be Loren.
Seeing the crowd merely watching the spectacle, with no one stepping forward to help, a sudden surge of anger welled up in Su Sheng’s heart. This anger was baseless, yet it drove him to quickly step into the crowd. But as soon as he realized what he was doing, he abruptly stopped.
At that moment, he had no time to guess why Loren was here or why he was so severely injured. He only knew that a strange feeling was rising within him, compelling him to act.
Fortunately, the onlookers’ attention was focused ahead, and no one noticed his strange behavior.
Su Sheng’s expression darkened further.
At the same time, a painful groan came from the front.
Loren was lying on the ground, his face contorted in agony, unconscious and utterly disheveled.
Loren’s clothes were ripped to shreds, and he had a deep wound on his chest. Blood soaked the surrounding ground, but the most critical injuries were his two knees, which were barely connected by flesh and skin.
The hand hidden beneath his sleeve was clenched tightly, his fingernails almost digging into his flesh. He should leave, Su Sheng thought.
But his body moved forward uncontrollably. Especially after Loren unconsciously let out another groan, Su Sheng’s pace quickened without him realizing it.
Forget it. Saving him is the priority.
Su Sheng sighed.
He first took out the few remaining healing potions he had and administered one to Loren. Then, he cast a light magic dispel spell, driving away the dark aura of the demon that lingered around Loren’s wounds.
He then used magic to lift Loren and headed toward the nearest Healers’ Guild.
.
“He was attacked by a silver wolf and then mistakenly ate a Stink Fruit, which caused the poisoning,” a healing Mage walked out of the room and explained.
“Stink Fruit?” Su Sheng frowned and asked, “What is that?”
The Mage chuckled and said, “You must be outsiders, right? It’s a local fruit. It can be used to stave off hunger in a pinch, but if someone is bitten by a silver wolf and then accidentally eats this fruit, they fall into a coma.”
“But it’s nothing serious. I just need to give him a specially formulated antidote,” the Mage added.
Su Sheng nodded, handed the Mage two gold coins, and said, “Thank you for your trouble.”
Shortly after the antidote was administered, Loren showed signs of waking up.
Su Sheng sat on a small chair nearby, finally having time to review the events from start to finish.
First, he was heading to the teleportation array. Loren must have known where he was going. Then, Loren coincidentally appeared nearby, severely injured. Recalling the words he spoke when they parted, Su Sheng’s expression couldn’t help but sink, and his gaze toward Loren became more suspicious.
He couldn’t help but wonder why Loren was so insistent on traveling with him.
At that moment, Loren, lying on the side, opened his eyes, his emerald gaze fixed unblinkingly on Su Sheng.
A smile just began to bloom on Loren’s lips, but it froze on his face. Simultaneously, a faint voice sounded above him:
“Tell me, what is your purpose for going to such lengths to follow me?”
