Chapter Index

Arriving near Silver Moon Bay, Su Sheng released the unicorn.

According to the book’s description, Silver Moon Bay only had a certain probability of appearing on the night of the full moon each month. His purpose for this trip was to visit the Ape King of Silver Moon Bay and confirm whether the individual was the one he was looking for.

And tomorrow night was the night of the full moon.

Su Sheng looked up. The night here was not as pitch black as The Abyss; instead, it was paved with stars. The moon, hidden among the constellations, did not appear overly bright, but the moonlight spilling down was still gentle.

“The sky tonight is so beautiful,” Su Sheng murmured involuntarily. Bathing in such moonlight, he felt as though the deep wounds in his soul were close to being healed.

Su Sheng lay on the grass. After a brief trance, he closed his eyes and asked, “Why have you been staring at me?”

A soft chuckle came from beside his ear: “Don’t you think the moon here resembles someone?”

    Su Sheng: “…”

Seemingly sensing Su Sheng didn’t want to answer, Loren spoke on his own: “It resembles you, very much.”

After a long silence, Su Sheng finally opened his mouth and asked, “Why?”

Loren said, “Look, its core is gentle, yet it insists on hanging itself high up. But that’s good too…”

Su Sheng’s brow twitched as he listened, and he subconsciously interjected, “Good how?”

Loren: “The advantage is that only someone strong enough can pluck it down into their hands.”

Su Sheng let out a cold snort, turned his body to the opposite direction, and ignored Loren.

After a while, Loren asked again, “What are you doing at Silver Moon Bay?”

    He was met with silence.

    .

The two waited until the second night. Tonight, the stars were no longer as brilliant as before, but the moon was terrifyingly round.

One person leaned against a tree, while the other stood not far away. Perhaps even he didn’t realize that his gaze had, at some point, begun to follow the person beneath the tree closely.

When the midnight bell chimed, the moonlight intensified, and Silver Moon Bay appeared before them.

On a vast, boundless grassland, numerous plants and animals emerged.

Apes swung through the jungle, gophers and rabbits played, and the clear chirping of nightingales echoed through the woods.

But in an instant, everything changed.

A flock of birds startled and took flight from the forest, and the desperate cries of wild deer sounded from the jungle. Blood stained the earth…

The apes also let out uneasy roars.

Su Sheng frowned deeply, summoned his staff, and stepped into the jungle before him, with Loren following closely behind.

“What happened here?” Su Sheng muttered, picking up a clump of nearly dried blood on the ground.

Loren said, “It looks like the work of the Silver Wolf Clan, the Ape King’s mortal enemy.”

Doubt flashed in Su Sheng’s eyes: “Isn’t Silver Moon Bay isolated from the world?”

Loren explained, “It used to be isolated, but in the last ten years, the Silver Wolf Clan migrated here and started fighting the Ape King for territory. The conflict between the two clans has grown daily, reaching a point of endless hostility.”

Su Sheng murmured, “So that’s how it is.”

“Where should the Ape King be now?”

Loren shrugged and spread his hands: “I wouldn’t know that.”

“But Norton, you seem to have forgotten to tell me something. It turns out you are actually our Saint Son, Your Highness.”

Loren emphasized the pronunciation of “our.”

Su Sheng turned back and saw Loren smiling at him. He knew the other party had seen the staff in his hand—the staff, as tall as a man and inlaid with a white holy magic gem, was known across the continent as the symbol of the current Saint Son. When he carefully scrutinized Loren’s expression, however, he found the other’s eyes were clear, holding no malice toward him.

This allowed the anxiety in Su Sheng’s heart to quietly subside, and he unknowingly let out a sigh of relief.

“I had concerns before and didn’t tell you clearly. My apologies.”

    “It’s nothing.”

Loren smiled and patted Su Sheng’s shoulder. His gaze flickered when he saw the hickey mark.

Su Sheng noticed Loren’s look, felt a pang of doubt, touched the collar covering his neck, and asked, “Is there something here?”

“Nothing. If there was, perhaps you were bitten by a mosquito,” Loren replied with a slight smile.

The two walked deeper into the jungle. Along the way, there were corpses of various animals, with the bodies of apes and silver wolves being the most numerous.

It seemed the two clans had been fighting fiercely recently.

Suddenly, a sharp arrow shot toward them, which Loren swiftly caught with his bare hand. At that moment, the arrowhead was less than a meter away from Su Sheng.

Su Sheng narrowed his eyes and deactivated the short-duration protective shield he had just cast.

Loren snapped the arrow in two with his hands, tossed it aside, and said, “Be careful. With the two clans fighting recently, no one will likely view us as guests.”

Su Sheng softly hummed in agreement, then cast a golden protective shield around each of them.

After walking for a short distance, tree houses faintly appeared ahead, and the number of apes visibly increased. Su Sheng stopped.

An ape soldier swung from a branch, approaching them, and stopped in front of Su Sheng. Seeing the staff in Su Sheng’s hand, a hint of shock appeared in its eyes. But then, it raised its long spear toward Su Sheng’s neck. The tip of the spear was only an inch from his throat as it asked warily:

    “Are you the Saint Son?”

Loren’s expression darkened slightly. Although he remained in place, his hand moved to the hilt of his sword, and the pressure around him subtly began to drop.

Su Sheng stopped Loren from drawing his sword. His expression was neither humble nor arrogant as he gave a slight nod.

The spear was lowered slightly. The ape soldier’s expression relaxed, and it asked, “So it is the Saint Son. May I ask what the Saint Son is doing here?”

Su Sheng deactivated his magic, revealing his true appearance, and said calmly, “I came to visit an old friend.”

It was obvious who Su Sheng’s old friend was, but the ape soldier looked troubled: “I’m afraid that might not be possible.”

Su Sheng said, “If it concerns the war, I believe I can be of assistance.”

The ape soldier stood hesitantly, looking as if it wanted to speak but couldn’t.

Su Sheng’s voice softened as he said calmly, “Fortans and I are friends. I won’t harm him. You can tell me anything directly.”

Looking around, the ape soldier lowered its voice and whispered, “Your Highness, I trust you. Our King has been having some health issues recently.”

Su Sheng frowned: “I see. Perhaps my companion can help.”

The ape soldier’s expression shifted, and its eyes brightened as it looked at Loren. But the moment their eyes met, it immediately shrank its neck in fear.

Why did this person standing next to him give him such a terrifying feeling with just a glance? the ape thought, sweating cold.

Su Sheng noticed the strangeness but didn’t see anything wrong with Loren. He simply assumed Loren was still angry and had frightened the ape soldier.

He thought the ape soldier was too timid.

The ape soldier lowered its spear and made an inviting gesture: “Please follow me, both of you.”

Su Sheng stepped forward to follow.

The ape soldier led them to a tree house with a staircase and said, “Please stay here for now. Allow me to seek permission from the King.”

Su Sheng nodded and went up with Loren.

The sounds of fighting continued throughout the night. Su Sheng could still see the raging flames and smoke billowing from the distant battlefield where the two sides clashed, with trees falling in swathes.

Just then, footsteps sounded behind him. Loren walked up beside him and asked, “What are you looking at? So engrossed?”

Su Sheng looked calmly out the vine window without speaking.

Seeing this, Loren lightly tapped his fingers on the window ledge, mentioning seemingly casually, “Don’t waste time. If you want to see the Ape King, I can break his legs and drag him over right now.”

Su Sheng turned to look at Loren. Although Loren smiled with refined elegance, his methods were too cruel and violent, and he seemed utterly devoid of familial or friendly sentiment.

Such a person might appear considerate on the surface, but in reality, he was truly cold and ruthless.

He would probably crush a scrawny old man blocking his path without hesitation.

Such a person was too terrifying.

He had to constantly remind himself not to fall into the trap of the gentle facade the other party wove, or he would surely meet a terrible end.

Su Sheng shifted his gaze, subtly increasing the distance between them, and said, “No need. I have other arrangements for this matter.”

Loren noticed the movement, but he maintained his smile and took a large step forward, closing the distance Su Sheng had created. He then whispered, “Your Highness should never think about avoiding me, or you won’t want to know the consequences.”
