Chapter 13 Your Gaze Isn’t Behaving

“Nothing much, just that this kid seems to idolize the Saint Son so much that he treats even an old piece of the Saint Son’s clothing as a precious treasure.” Loren curled his lips expressionlessly, yet his tone was as sour as if he had eaten ten oranges. He, however, seemed oblivious to it.

Su Sheng glanced at Loren in surprise, then carefully chose his words: “Well… the Saint Son was elected by the Light faction, so it’s normal for everyone to worship him.”

Inside the Duke’s mansion, a beautiful young woman descended the staircase.

The woman wore a pink dress, making her appear incredibly youthful. Trailing right behind her was Duke Kili.

The moment Duke Kili saw them, his face darkened. He used his body to shield the young woman and turned his head to the maid, saying, “Get them out of here.”

Thales’s expression changed. He stopped the maid, bowing and scraping as he said, “Father, don’t get agitated. These are two healing Mages I invited. Didn’t you say Mother hasn’t been sleeping well lately? I specifically brought them to diagnose her.”

Duke Kili sneered, “Healing Mages? Don’t think I don’t know that those Mages you keep secretly are meant to be used against Kelly!”

“You idiot! Moron! You actually plan to use the money I gave you to plot against your mother!”

Su Sheng frowned. It seemed Duke Kili was not as kind to Thales as the rumors suggested.

Thales was scolded into silence, only daring to speak softly, “Father, it’s true.”

Su Sheng secretly observed the young woman but found nothing unusual. However, Loren beside him seemed to have noticed something interesting, revealing an amused smile.

Just as the father and son’s argument was about to reach a climax, Loren lazily interjected, “Excuse the interruption, but although I am a Knight, I also minor in healing magic.”

As he spoke, he cut his own palm, but the wound healed instantly.

This sight made both father and son stop in unison. After a moment, Thales’s father asked suspiciously, “Is this for real this time?”

Thales looked at Loren with tearful gratitude and nodded frantically.

“Then follow me upstairs.” Duke Kili took the young woman’s hand and walked up.

They arrived at a bright bedroom. Duke Kili had the young woman lie on the bed and gently comforted her, “It’s alright, Kelly. Just let him take a look. I’ll be right here with you, trust me.”

The young woman timidly glanced at Su Sheng. When her eyes swept over Loren, she became terrified. Like a startled bird, she gripped Duke Kili’s hand and whispered tremulously, “Please make them leave.”

Duke Kili said gently, “My dear Kelly, haven’t you been sleeping poorly lately? It’s a good chance to let these two Mages examine you. Your exhausted appearance breaks my heart.”

At this point, Loren impatiently cut in, “Alright, alright. If you want her illness cured, please step outside first.”

Once Duke Kili left, Su Sheng moved his fingers and cast a silencing spell.

Loren smiled, though his eyes held no warmth, “Tell me, you are clearly a Succubus, so why do you also have human and Elf blood inside you?”

Kelly dropped her previous fragile demeanor, sat up, and smiled. Her gaze slowly swept over Thales, a flicker of disdain crossing her expression, then over Loren, finally settling on Su Sheng:

“Let me see. Hmm, a Knight who can take on ten people, and a mysterious Mage. Thales must have sent you, right?”

Thales cursed, “You filthy demon! What is your purpose in seducing my father?”

Kelly giggled, “You have so many questions, which one should I answer first?”

Kelly’s gaze passed over Loren, her expression slightly unnatural, “I’ll answer yours first.”

“The blood in my body comes from my parents. They performed a fusion experiment in pursuit of power, and I was the failure. I only possess one-third of a Succubus’s abilities, but my body is as weak as a human’s, and I inherited the appearance of an Elf. So, naturally, I was abandoned.”

“I was very weak back then. After Duke Kili saved me, I chose to repay his kindness.”

    Thales was stunned, “Repay kindness?”

    Loren said, “Interesting.”

Kelly continued, “That’s right, your father once saved my life. His wish was to drive away your ugly, greedy mother and marry a beautiful, understanding wife. So, I came.”

    Thales’s eyes widened, “A wish?”

“Yes, I can hear your father’s prayers.” Kelly said with a sorrowful look, “I’ve been trying my best to satisfy him all these years, helping him eliminate political rivals. But his wishes keep increasing, and I’m almost powerless now.”

Thales stood agape, too shocked to speak.

But then he asked, “Then what crime did those male servants commit? Why did you take their lives?”

Kelly opened her sorrowful blue eyes, which were filled with mist, “Because that was all your father’s doing.”

Thales quickly realized something, his face turning a kaleidoscope of colors. Still unwilling to accept it, he challenged, “Why should I believe you?”

Kelly coughed, “Your father is losing patience and is about to come in.”

Duke Kili indeed pushed the door open and entered.

Thales turned to Su Sheng and Loren, removing his hat in apology, “The matter is resolved. I apologize for wasting your time.”

Loren chuckled softly but didn’t speak.

Su Sheng still frowned and said, “It’s late now. May we stay here for the night?”

Thales immediately said, “Of course. I’ve specially prepared a banquet for you tonight.”

Su Sheng waved his hand, “A banquet is not…”

His words were cut off by Loren, “A banquet? Sounds good.”

Thales nodded in acknowledgment, “Thank you both for honoring us with your presence.”

    .

That evening, Su Sheng and Loren were led to the ballroom where the banquet was being held.

Most of the guests had already arrived. When the two entered, all eyes focused on them.

Su Sheng looked up. Duke Kili and Lady Kelly were standing on the stage. Upon seeing them arrive, Lady Kelly subtly recoiled backward.

    Su Sheng withdrew his gaze.

The banquet officially began. As the main guests of the evening, and given their formidable strength, many people sought to make their acquaintance.

Loren had disappeared somewhere. Su Sheng had used a disguise spell, so no one recognized his identity as the Saint Son.

Many people approached him with wine glasses, trying to strike up conversations, but he politely refused them one by one. Everyone seemed surprised by his aloofness, and soon a small empty space formed around him.

Loren returned, carrying two glasses of red wine and two pieces of cake that he had procured from somewhere.

    “Norton, want some wine?”

Loren gently swirled the wine glass between two fingers. Su Sheng initially intended to refuse, but seeing Loren’s smiling expression and expectant eyes, the refusal unconsciously died in his throat.

So, a wine glass was placed in his hand, and a delicate small cake was placed in the other.

Su Sheng, who hadn’t eaten anything the entire banquet, began to focus on eating the cake. Few people knew that his favorite food was actually sweets.

Another piece of cake was offered, accompanied by a remark.

“Don’t eat too much, you’ll get cavities.”

He took it automatically, looking up to see Loren cutting the cake on the table into even pieces.

But he still detected a hint of teasing.

So he glared at him and sneered, “I’ll get cavities?”

Seeming to realize that he had zero deterrent power like this, he swallowed the cake in his mouth and said lightly, “If an Alchemist gets cavities, he’s a joke.”

Loren shrugged and continued cutting the cake.

He wasn’t sure what kind of wine this was. Even though he was sipping it slowly, Su Sheng felt dizzy.

After eating and drinking his fill, he found a corner to lean against, closing his eyes to try and suppress the intoxication.

In a haze, someone leaned in close.

“Who?” Su Sheng opened his eyes. At the same time, his muscles tensed, and he drew his dagger, pressing it against the person’s throat. He paused slightly when he saw the familiar smiling face and lowered the dagger.

“Why are you here?” Su Sheng sighed and asked.

Loren lowered his head and took a sip of wine. His voice was somehow low and slightly husky, “You’re drunk. Do you need to rest?”

Perhaps Loren was simply too handsome, or perhaps Su Sheng was too deeply intoxicated, but he found himself staring blankly at Loren’s bobbing Adam’s apple, thinking: Why is his Adam’s apple better looking than mine?

At this moment, he didn’t realize that this was a suggestive and highly improper action.

But he looked, and he kept looking.

“Norton.” Loren moved his Adam’s apple again, his eyes deepening. His low, sexy voice resonated in Su Sheng’s ear, “What are you looking at?”

The alcohol was getting to his head. Su Sheng slowly shook his head and said, “Nothing, I’m not looking at anything.”

“Really?” Loren curved his lips, his eyes carrying a hint of probing and provocation. His fingertip naughtily touched Su Sheng’s lips, and his voice dropped, sounding seductive, “Your gaze isn’t behaving.”

Su Sheng frowned, feeling his mind turn chaotic. His thoughts were like a tangled mess of hemp. He still didn’t realize he should look away, staring straight at the person in front of him.

“I really wasn’t looking,” he paused, then added, “at your Adam’s apple.”

    “…”

    “Good boy, my Norton.”

Loren stroked Su Sheng’s head, slowly pulled him into an embrace, and then smiled triumphantly.

After the banquet, Su Sheng was half-supported by Loren back to the bedroom. Thales offered to help, but Loren refused without hesitation. Thales seemed to understand something, merely pointed the way, and then left, instructing the servants not to disturb the two of them.

As Loren placed Su Sheng on the bed, he heard him softly murmur a name, causing the hand covering him with the blanket to pause.

“Still remembering to help these fools.”

Loren turned and left the room, leaving behind a sigh. But a moment later, he seemed to think of something else, and the end of his voice lifted:

“In that case, I’ll give you a hand. In return, I’ll be personally collecting the interest later, won’t I?”

In the middle of the night, Su Sheng slept restlessly. He dreamed that strange dream again, where his limbs were bound, and he was placed in the center of Spire Castle. The bizarre part was that a bed had been placed there at some point. When he woke up, the shock nearly made him jump out of bed.

After letting his mind clear for a while, Su Sheng remembered there was still something he hadn’t taken care of. At that moment, Loren also woke up. He turned his head to look at Su Sheng and asked, “Why are you awake?”

Su Sheng shook his head, then frowned and said, “Duke Kili’s wife is a bit strange.”

Loren smiled and shook his head, saying, “Don’t worry, Norton, I’ve already handled it.”

Su Sheng raised an eyebrow in surprise, “Handled it? How?”

Loren said, “After I brought you back, I paid a visit to the Duchess. I resolved her Succubus bloodline. From now on, she won’t possess superhuman abilities, nor will she be able to hear the Duke’s wishes.”

Loren did conceal one detail: he extracted the young woman’s Succubus bloodline but didn’t discard it. Instead, he collected it. After all, such an interesting thing was worth studying, wasn’t it?

He understood why the demons below would resort to any means to seek power, but that a demon would come up with such a bizarre experiment was truly…

    Su Sheng’s frown eased.

    “So, sleep soundly,” Loren smiled.

    Su Sheng fell back asleep.

    .

The next day, learning they were leaving, Thales gave them a flying unicorn and said:

“This unicorn is a descendant carefully bred by our family. Its speed is ten times that of an ordinary unicorn. It can help you quickly reach the vicinity of Silver Moon Bay. There is only one, but I trust you won’t mind.”

Su Sheng asked, “How do we return it to you?”

Thales said, “Don’t worry, it knows the way back on its own.”

Su Sheng felt that Thales’s gaze toward them today was extremely strange, as if he had discovered a new continent, leaving Su Sheng perplexed.

Before they departed, Thales whispered in Su Sheng’s ear, “Mages and Knights are a perfect match. I wish you both well.”

He then slapped the unicorn’s flank and quickly slipped away.

The unicorn carried them higher and higher. Su Sheng thought Thales’s words were nonsensical. When did he and Loren become a couple? And wishing them well?

    It was truly baffling.

But Su Sheng failed to notice the faint hickey just an inch below his collar.
