Chapter Index

Su Sheng led Loren out of The Abyss. Over the past half month, Loren’s map had fortunately helped them avoid a lot of trouble.

However, despite all the treatment along the way, Loren’s injuries hadn’t improved much.

The person in question spoke in an innocent tone: “Norton, my dear, I’m afraid I’ll have to trouble you to carry me for the rest of the journey.”

Su Sheng disliked being too close to people, but with Loren on his back, Loren’s scent constantly lingered around him, making him very uncomfortable.

When he truly couldn’t bear it anymore, Su Sheng would turn his head, shoot a cold glare, and ask, “When exactly will your leg injury heal?”

At this, Loren would smile, lean in, blow air into his ear, wink, and then utter some irrelevant nonsense: “I don’t know, I’m not sure, I wish I did, actually I also…”

“Stop!” Su Sheng’s forehead throbbed faintly. What he didn’t know was that the unspoken part of Loren’s sentence was: “Actually, I’m quite enjoying this, wouldn’t you agree, great Saint Son?”

It was fortunate Su Sheng didn’t know, or he would have erupted in violence.

The journey of over twenty days finally ended. Standing on the border between The Abyss and the human towns, Su Sheng set Loren down and said, “I have repaid what I owed you. Let’s part ways here.”

Loren put on his usual smile, appearing utterly nonchalant. However, a closer look would reveal his hand tightly clutching Su Sheng’s hem, his azure pupils filled with the accusation of “you heartless person.”

Experience told him that the method of “pretending to leave to make him sober up” truly didn’t work; this human would genuinely leave without any hesitation.

So, at this moment, Loren desperately clung to Su Sheng’s clothes, smiling lightly as if nothing was amiss: “Can you really bear to abandon a disabled person like this and walk away? That’s not what a gentleman should do.”

    What nonsense, Su Sheng frowned.

“Don’t you have family waiting for you to return with the Silver Star Orchid to save their lives?” Su Sheng asked.

Loren’s body imperceptibly stiffened, and his smile froze slightly. This reaction, in Su Sheng’s eyes, looked like guilt. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously and asked, “You haven’t forgotten about that, have you?”

    Loren: “…”

Loren quickly added, “Of course not.”

It would be strange if he hadn’t.

It was a lie he had casually spun, and he had actually forgotten about it completely.

“My dear, can you truly bear to abandon a disabled person? Are you really not worried about me, not even a little bit?” Loren asked unwillingly.

Su Sheng replied flatly, “If your hand was injured, perhaps I would be concerned.”

“If I encounter wandering demons on the road, I will die,” Loren tried to struggle further.

But this time, Su Sheng didn’t immediately reply.

After a moment, he asked, “Where are you going?”

Loren was startled, knowing he had a chance. But the Continent of Light was vast, and there were so many kingdoms that he couldn’t immediately name one.

He racked his brain, trying to remember which kingdom he had recently robbed.

    Oh, he remembered.

Loren resumed his smile and said, “The Kingdom of Philichis.”

Su Sheng tilted his head, asking with confusion, “Wasn’t that kingdom destroyed a hundred years ago?”

    Loren said, “It was rebuilt.”

Su Sheng murmured, “How come I haven’t heard about it?”

Loren quickly said, “It’s a recent development.”

That explained it. The Kingdom of Philichis was in a remote location, so it was perfectly normal for him not to know the recent situation.

Su Sheng thought for a moment, recalling that the former site of that kingdom was in the southwest of the continent, and his first stop for the search mission assigned by the Transmigrator Bureau was Silver Moon Bay in the southwest.

    Therefore, Su Sheng said, “Alright.”

Loren’s expression visibly brightened. He narrowed his eyes, returning to his refined appearance, but when Su Sheng started to walk away, he spread his arms and uttered a single, concise word: “Carry.”

“Carry?” Su Sheng flicked his fingers and cast a levitation spell on Loren. Loren then floated vertically beside Su Sheng.

Loren sighed, as if accepting the reality: “Floating like this is fine too.”

“Perhaps we should treat your leg first,” Su Sheng said as he walked.

“Oh, that’s right,” Loren said, seeming to recall something, and narrowed his eyes regretfully.

The first human town was in sight. Both men were incredibly disheveled, practically in rags, not much better than beggars. Yet, even this couldn’t conceal their good looks.

Entering the small town, they had a hundred percent rate of people turning their heads to stare.

One enthusiastic girl even approached them, offering to buy them new clothes and generously inviting them to a ball, but Su Sheng politely declined.

Because their state of disarray was so exaggerated, Su Sheng wasn’t even worried about being recognized.

As the two sat on a stone bench by the roadside to rest, a nearby conversation caught Su Sheng’s attention.

“Hey, did you hear? Everyone in the main City-State of the Kingdom of Costi disappeared overnight.”

“Yeah, the Saint Son angered the Demon King, and they suffered along with him.”

“The Saint Son?” A gasp of surprise. “How could that happen?”

“You don’t know about this? You’re too ignorant. But they say that after that incident, not only did everyone in the entire City-State vanish without a trace, but the Saint Son also disappeared!”

The conversation ended with the two people dramatically sighing, “The Demon King is truly terrifying.”

Loren subconsciously turned his head to look at Su Sheng, finding Su Sheng’s gaze cold, his expression unreadable.

He thought they were just a bunch of idiots who couldn’t even tell who was helping whom, and they weren’t worth paying attention to. But as he watched Su Sheng’s expressionless face, he unconsciously spoke up, “What do you think of the Demon King?”

Su Sheng lowered his eyes, his voice laced with uncontrollable coldness: “I will kill him sooner or later.”

In the place where Su Sheng couldn’t see, Loren dangerously narrowed his eyes, licked his fangs, and showed a strange smile.

The two purchased new robes, and after Su Sheng disguised himself, they immediately went to the local Healers’ Guild.

This place gathered Mages with healing attributes. After giving the receptionist a silver coin, they were led to the third floor, where the town’s most excellent healing Mage supposedly resided.

Upon arrival, Su Sheng knocked. The door was opened by a very old man wearing a hood.

The elder welcomed them in. After carefully examining Loren’s leg, his expression became serious: “The residual poison of a high-level demon has already eroded the joints of his leg. As far as I know, this type of demon only exists in The Abyss.”

    “You went to The Abyss?”

His gaze lingered on Su Sheng, then shifted to Loren, and finally fixed on one spot. A moment later, he exclaimed, “Is that the Silver Star Orchid?!”

The elder was greatly shocked: “You even broke into the Demon King’s residence?”

Su Sheng gave a faint “Mm” in affirmation.

“Brave warriors,” the old Mage sighed, his gaze toward them becoming purer. “Forgive me, I cannot cure this injury. However, I have a potion here that can temporarily suppress the spread of the poison, which I will give you for free. If you want a cure, you must go to the Holy City and find Lord Toliver.”

“Alright,” Su Sheng thanked him. “Thank you.”

“May the God of Light bless you,” the elder said, his expression radiating as if bathed in light.

Loren, meanwhile, let out a disdainful scoff.

Su Sheng carried Loren away. Because Loren was severely injured, they couldn’t use the teleportation array, as it would tear open the wounds. Therefore, they had to rent a unicorn carriage with a driver to take them to the Holy City.

After three days of intermittent travel, they arrived at the Holy City and successfully found Toliver.

In a small but exquisite room, Toliver squatted down to examine Loren’s leg. After a moment, he looked up:

“He was bitten by a werewolf, and there is also vampire blood mixed in. The werewolf must have bitten a vampire shortly before biting you. The mixture of blood and saliva spread to your joints, which is why this injury is so difficult to treat.”

He patted his chest and added, “Old Fri wrote to me, saying you are warriors who dared to trespass into The Abyss. Leave this matter to me.”

Su Sheng nodded slightly in acknowledgment: “Thank you. I appreciate the trouble.”

“No trouble at all, no trouble,” Toliver chuckled. “It’s just that I’ll have to inconvenience you to stay here for a few extra days.”

“I only have one spare room. Since I need to constantly observe the patient’s condition, it’s best not to stay too far away. But I imagine neither of you will mind, right?” Toliver asked with a smile.

Su Sheng frowned slightly, while Loren smiled faintly and nodded in acknowledgment: “Of course not. It is our honor to stay here.”

That night, when Su Sheng saw the tiny bed, he was visibly silent.

This brought back some unpleasant memories, yet the person beside him spoke as if completely oblivious: “This bed is nice. It saves us the trouble of using blankets tonight.”

That was true; when people were squeezed together, they didn’t need blankets, especially on a summer night.

“I’ll sleep on the floor.” Su Sheng walked over, picked up the blanket, and prepared to lay it on the ground, but Loren quickly stopped him.

The person opposite him looked aggrieved: “My dear Norton, are you rejecting me?”

    Su Sheng: “No…”

“That’s good. If you sleep on the floor, what if I accidentally roll off and crush you?”

Although he was lying, Loren maintained a serious expression.

Su Sheng was truly exhausted and didn’t want to waste any more energy on a trivial matter, so he acquiesced.

But soon, he regretted it, completely and utterly.

The even breathing belonging to Loren puffed against his ear, making the back of Su Sheng’s ear itch. His back was pressed against a heat source.

    It was a bit hard.

Su Sheng found it somewhat unbearable.

He had never been this close to anyone.

Due to Loren being so near and out of consideration for the other party’s injury, Su Sheng kept his eyes open, staring at the ceiling, his mind filled with random thoughts. Suddenly, a hand reached out and tightly wrapped around him.

Su Sheng’s body stiffened. Just as he was about to reprimand him, he realized the person had already fallen asleep.

He could only remain frozen and silent until he finally drifted off in the latter half of the night.

What Su Sheng didn’t know was that after he fell asleep, the body next to him gradually became stiff, unlike that of a living person.

At the same time, the Demon King quietly appeared before Su Sheng. After transferring a drop of blood to “Loren,” he stared at Su Sheng’s face for a long time, a look of insane amusement flashing in his cold pupils:

“‘Kill him sooner or later?’ I await the day you pass out in my bed, Norton.”

Then, the Demon King’s pale fingertip touched Su Sheng’s forehead, and a wisp of black mist flashed by.

“Well then, let me collect some interest first.”
