Fallen At A Glance Chapter 6
byThe Little Liar
“Lian Mu, you saved me. You need to take responsibility until I am fully recovered.”
Even the usually composed Lian Mu was once again amused and exasperated by Yun Suiyi’s words. “Didn’t you say I acted on my own accord? Why do you want me to take responsibility now?”
“Oh, come on,” Yun Suiyi whined playfully. “Saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. An Immortal Master certainly wouldn’t leave me to fend for myself, right?”
Lian Mu shook his head. “I have a hard heart. Saving you already cost me a lot of medicine. Young Master Yun needs to settle the bill.”
“You even changed my clothes, so you should know I don’t have a single coin on me.”
“Hmm, then I’ll go to Pingyang City and find your younger brother. Surely he wouldn’t refuse to pay for you.”
Hearing Yun Zhao mentioned by this person again, Yun Suiyi instantly lost his appetite for the fish.
He had known since childhood that Yun Zhao had a good nature and was very popular. Whether it was his mother, the servants in the manor, or even the street vendors, everyone who knew Yun Zhao liked him.
Yun Zhao had many friends; he was always alone.
This person in front of him was the same. He had only met Yun Zhao once in Pingyang City, yet he had mentioned him no less than three times in this short period.
Yun Suiyi stared blankly at the fish in his hand. He thought that he was only alive to avenge his mother. He couldn’t compare to Yun Zhao in the eyes of outsiders, and no matter how well he did in front of his mother, it still couldn’t outweigh Yun Zhao.
“Hey,” Lian Mu said, surprised. “Don’t cry.”
“I’m not crying,” Yun Suiyi vigorously wiped the tears from his face and threw the fish back to Lian Mu. “I’m not eating it. Your fish isn’t good, and you’re not a good person.”
Lian Mu was somewhat bewildered, but the sight of the person before him, tear-streaked like a pear blossom touched by rain, captivated him.
People often said that a man’s tears should not be shed lightly, but Yun Suiyi’s tears were startling and breathtaking, like a poem that moved heaven and earth. When he cried, it wasn’t wretchedness or weakness, but a beauty bordering on fragility—a beauty that made one’s heart tremble, a beauty one dared not look at directly.
Yun Suiyi’s eyes were already exquisitely shaped, almond eyes filled with emotion, pupils like polished lacquer. Now, brimming with tears, they resembled a cold pool steeped in moonlight, unfathomably deep yet so clear they could reflect the human heart.
He didn’t wail; he just cried quietly, his shoulders trembling slightly, yet a stubborn curve remained on his lips, as if he were smiling and in pain simultaneously. Tears rolled down one after another, dripping onto his chin and splashing tiny droplets onto the ground.
Those tears were not weakness, but the final breaking of a dam holding back long-suppressed loneliness, grievance, and regret.
“Don’t cry. I won’t ask for money, and I’ll take care of you until you’re well,” Lian Mu coaxed.
Yun Suiyi ignored Lian Mu.
“I’ll indulge you with whatever you want to eat these next few days, alright?”
For the first time in seventeen years, Yun Suiyi felt what it was like to be comforted like this.
So… this was what it felt like to be coaxed. No wonder Yun Zhao always needed his mother to comfort him whenever he was sick and had to drink medicine.
Yun Suiyi felt even more miserable inside.
“Hey,” Lian Mu watched as the person in front of him seemed to cry harder, the tears dropping faster.
“W-what are you looking at?” Yun Suiyi asked Lian Mu, choking back a sob.
“Looking at how beautiful you are when you cry. Just appreciating it,” Lian Mu said with a smile.
“I’m crying, and you’re not comforting me? You’re just laughing at me.”
“I can comfort you after you finish crying,” Lian Mu curled his lips. “It’s rare to see Young Master Yun cry.”
“Hmph, I wasn’t crying,” Yun Suiyi immediately stopped shedding tears.
Aside from his still-reddened eyes, there was no outward sign that Yun Suiyi had just been crying.
“No more fish. Have some fruit,” Lian Mu produced a fruit with a rough, bright red exterior.
“What is this?”
“Shaoguo. Try it. It’s unique to the Cold Shadow Sect mountain.”
“It’s all fuzzy on the outside, how do you eat it?” Yun Suiyi asked, looking at the red, prickly fruit in Lian Mu’s hand.
“You peel it like this,” Lian Mu peeled one open for Yun Suiyi, revealing the white, tender flesh inside.
Yun Suiyi took it and tasted it. The inner flesh was crisp, sweet, and juicy.
“Do you like it?” Lian Mu asked.
“It’s alright,” Yun Suiyi said stubbornly.
Lian Mu didn’t argue with him. After meeting him twice, he already knew Yun Suiyi’s personality.
Lian Mu took out a few more. “Eat up. They’re all yours.”
“You peel them for me.”
“Alright,” Lian Mu didn’t retort this time but lowered his head and peeled the fruits one by one for Yun Suiyi.
One peeled, one ate. Neither spoke, creating a sense of tranquil peace.
“Why did you stop peeling?”
“All the ones I brought out have been eaten by you.”
Yun Suiyi felt a little embarrassed, but he still refused to back down verbally. “Is the Cold Shadow Sect, such a large sect, only giving you a few fruits?”
“Young Master Yun, you’ve eaten about ten of them.”
“Why are you so stingy? You’re counting how many fruits I eat.” Yun Suiyi reached up and rubbed his nose. “Such a large sect acts so cheap.”
“This fruit has a very high sugar content. Eating too much is bad; it can irritate your stomach, and you still have injuries.”
“Hmph,” Yun Suiyi turned his head away, ignoring Lian Mu.
“Yun Suiyi.”
Yun Suiyi turned back, and a perfectly peeled Shaoguo was popped into his mouth.
“The last one.”
Yun Suiyi chewed it up with puffed cheeks.
“Now that you’re done eating, take off your clothes.”
“What are you doing?” Yun Suiyi’s expression instantly changed.
“I need to apply ointment to your injuries,” Lian Mu looked at Yun Suiyi. “What did you think I was going to do?”
“Oh,” Yun Suiyi rubbed his nose. “No need for medicine. I’ll be fine in a few days.”
“No wonder you have so many scars. Do you never apply medicine when you get hurt?”
“None of your business.”
Lian Mu looked at Yun Suiyi’s face and, unable to resist, reached out and pinched Yun Suiyi’s cheek. “Yun Suiyi, did you grow up eating firecrackers?”
“You’re the one who grew up eating firecrackers! Who told you to pinch my face?” Yun Suiyi angrily pushed Lian Mu’s hand away.
Before Lian Mu could speak, Yun Suiyi’s figure had already appeared outside the cave.
“Little liar. Your body is fine. You were just pretending to be weak when you woke up,” Lian Mu sighed, getting up and walking out of the cave as well.
An extremely beautiful woman slowly descended from the sky. Her feet were bare, only a pair of pale, jade-like soles lightly touching the void. With every step, a crystal-clear petal silently bloomed beneath her.
The petals were like snow, yet softer than snow and more transparent than light. Layer upon layer, they paved a winding path from the void, as if the heavens were clearing the way for her and the earth was offering her flowers.
The woman was draped in a light, flowing gauze, her sleeves fluttering in the wind, resembling the rolling of clouds or the rippling of water. Her hair was minimally adorned, featuring only a white jade Phoenix hairpin that held a string of fine starlight, radiating a gentle glow in the sunlight.
Her face was unpainted, yet surpassed a thousand shades of red. Her eyebrows were like distant, mist-laden mountains, her eyes like autumn water reflecting the moon. Her lips were slightly curved, creating a spring breeze even when she didn’t smile.
Lian Mu turned his head and saw Yun Suiyi beside him smiling, his gaze fixed on the woman.
Finally, the woman spoke, “Yun Suiyi, why did you run so far? You made me search for you.”
“You looked for me?” Yun Suiyi’s voice held a hint of delight.
Lian Mu, standing nearby, frowned.
“You haven’t returned because you’ve been with this person?” The woman’s gaze landed on Lian Mu, her tone displeased. “Who is this person? How long have you known him?”
“I don’t know him,” Yun Suiyi said calmly. “We just happened to meet. Are we going back?”
Seeing that the woman’s attention was still on Lian Mu, Yun Suiyi smiled. “You came all this way to find me. Now that you’ve found me, aren’t you leaving?”
“Let’s go,” the woman said, turning and departing.
Yun Suiyi immediately followed.
Lian Mu, left alone, didn’t know what words to use to express his current feelings.
Yunshui Yun Manor
The woman who brought Yun Suiyi back sat haughtily on the high seat. “Yun Suiyi, I sent you out to kill someone, and you haven’t returned for over a month. When did your martial arts become so poor?”
“I destroyed two major Immortal Sects in one month. Are my martial arts poor?”
“Since the task was completed, why didn’t you return yourself? You made me come and fetch you. Yun Suiyi, were you trying to abandon me?”
“I told you, I am the only person in this world who won’t abandon you. Not even your Azhao can do that.”
“My Azhao wouldn’t abandon me,” Yun Xining roared. “He’s just sleeping. Azhao will wake up.”
“He’s dead,” Yun Suiyi stated firmly. “He died over two months ago.”
“You’re lying!” Yun Xining whipped out her Whip and lashed it toward Yun Suiyi. “My Azhao wouldn’t leave me. He’s not dead.”
“Wake up! He abandoned you long ago!” Yun Suiyi shouted sadly. “Only I won’t abandon you.”
“I don’t want you, Yun Suiyi. I want my Azhao.”
“He’s already dead.”
“My Azhao is just sleeping. He will wake up.”
“He’s already dead, and your heart is still full of him! When will you finally see me?”
“How can you compare yourself to my Azhao?”
“I can’t compare to him?” Yun Suiyi’s heart felt like a piece of flesh had been gouged out alive. “Can he kill people for you? Can he eliminate everyone you want dead? He can’t. Only I can.”
“So what?” Yun Xining sneered. “My Azhao is innocent and pure, lovely and kind, unlike you, with your hands full of blood, cold and ruthless.”
“If I died, would you rely on your Azhao to personally execute your enemies?” Yun Suiyi asked coldly.
“Yun Suiyi, I hate you.”
“You hate me, but you can’t leave me, can you?” Yun Suiyi curled his lips into a cold smile. “If you miss your Azhao so much, why don’t you bring him back to life?”
“Revive him…” Yun Xining suddenly thought of something. “Yun Suiyi, go to the Secret Treasure Pavilion of the Azure Cloud Sect. There is a Soul Revival Pearl there. Bring it back to me.”
“…Alright.”
Yun Suiyi turned and left.
