Don’t let me do it

Yun pushed the door open at will and closed it with his backhand, cutting off the noise outside. The carelessness that usually hung on his face, as if nothing could defeat him, receded like the tide.

He leaned his back against the door panel and slowly slid down to the ground. It seemed that this was the only way he could support himself from completely falling apart.

The candlelight in the room was weak, so he didn’t light it immediately. He just wanted to lick his wounds alone in the darkness. However, just as he was about to struggle to get up, a cold voice sounded in the silence, with penetrating power that was unmistakable:

    “Back.”

Yun Sui froze and raised his head suddenly.

On the Grand Master’s chair by the window, a slender figure was hidden in the shadows, and the outline gradually became clear in the dim light – it was Lian Mu. He had been waiting here for an unknown length of time. His whole body exuded a cold aura like jade, but his eyes were like the deep water of a cold pool, firmly locked on the embarrassed figure at the door.

“Lian Mu” Yun’s casual voice was a little hoarse. He straightened his back subconsciously, trying to hide the injury on his back, but his movements made him twitch. “Why are you here? You didn’t even light a lamp, you want to scare people to death.”

While pretending to be relaxed and joking, he endured the severe tearing pain in his back and walked inside. He didn’t dare to walk too fast, and he didn’t dare to let Lian Mu see his back.

But every step was like stepping on the tip of a knife, and cold sweat dripped from his forehead.

“Look what I’m doing.” He noticed Lian Mu’s eyes falling on his stiff back, and quickly put his hands behind his back, pretending that nothing happened.

Lian Mu stood up slowly and walked towards Yun Zuiyi step by step. His steps were very light, but they seemed to be stepping on Yun Zuiyi’s heart. The cold cedar breath on his body was getting closer and closer, and he stood in front of him with an irresistible sense of oppression. His eyes fell on his paper-pale face, and his voice was low, “Yun Zuiyi, she hit you again.”

The smile on Yun Suiran’s face faltered. He wanted to retort, but a heartbreaking pain in his back made his vision go dark. He swayed, and he hurriedly held the corner of the table beside him, his knuckles turning white from the exertion.

“Ahem… maybe I had a bad stomach after dinner.” He was still speaking harshly, but his voice became muffled due to suppressed pain.

Lian Mu’s eyes looked past him and fell on his hand holding the edge of the table. There was faint red blood between his fingers, which was stained through the clothes from the injury on his back.

Seeing Yun Suiran holding himself up in front of him, Lian Mu sighed, leaned over and hugged him.

Yun Sui was stunned and subconsciously wanted to refuse, “No, I really…”

“Yun Zuizi!” Lian Mu’s voice suddenly rose, with a hint of imperceptible anger and distress, “Don’t let me do it.”

Yun Sui lowered his head, his face pale. He could feel that Lian Mu was angry. The cold aura completely enveloped him, and Yun Sui moved.

“Be good” Lian Mu’s voice was very close at hand.

Before Yun Suiran could react, he was already placed on the bed by Lian Mu, and the clothes on his back were gently lifted up by a pair of cold hands. When his sight touched the bloody and bloody back covered with whip marks, Lian Mu’s breathing suddenly stopped, and a chill shot up from the soles of his feet to the sky.

“Why is she so cruel?” Lian Mu’s voice was as cold as ice, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth.

Yun casually felt the chill coming from his back and shuddered subconsciously. He wanted to pull down his clothes, but Lian Mu held his shoulders down.

“Don’t move.” Lian Mu’s tone softened a little, but still carried an irresistible force. “The injury is serious.”

The cold medicine powder was sprinkled on the wound, causing a sharp sting. Yun gasped casually, and his body tensed up instantly. He grabbed the edge of the bed with both hands, his knuckles turning white. He gritted his teeth to prevent himself from making any sound.

“Scream if it hurts.” Lian Mu’s hand paused, with obvious distress in his voice.

“Who’s in pain?” Yun Sui said harshly, but his voice was trembling and seemed to lack confidence, “This is a small injury, I used to…”

“How was it before?” Lian Mu interrupted him, but the movements of his hands were much gentler, “She beat you like this before? No wonder you have so many whiplash wounds on your back.”

Yun Sui’s heart skipped a beat. He lay on the bed, feeling the coolness of Lian Mu’s fingertips and the sting of the medicine powder on his back. It was a strange feeling that was a mixture of pain and relief.

“Lian Mu…” He called out in a low voice, with a hint of grievance in his voice that he was not aware of, “When did you come?”

“The third time you tried to reach your back with your right hand, but you almost jumped up in pain.” Lian Mu’s tone was still cold, but the content of his words made Yun Suiran’s ears warm.

“You…you saw it all?” Yun Suiran wanted to turn around in embarrassment, but was held down by Lian Mu.

“Don’t move, we’re applying the medicine.” Lian Mu paused and his voice deepened, “Yun Sui Sui, do you think you are invincible?”

Yun casually lay on the bed and replied dully: “I’m used to it.”

“Get used to it?” Lian Mu’s voice was filled with distress and helplessness. “Get used to being beaten by her and not get angry. Get used to pretending to be okay no matter how much you get hurt or how painful you are. Get used to taking on everything by yourself?”

Yun Sui’s body trembled slightly but he said nothing.

Lian Mu took a deep breath, tried hard to suppress the surging emotions in his heart, and moved his hands more gently: “From now on, I will be here.”

Yun casually closed his eyes and let Lian Mu deal with the wound on his back.It was an experience he had never had before – exposing his weaknesses to another person without reservation.

He opened his mouth to say something, but in the end it only turned into an almost inaudible sigh, and a slight redness quietly appeared in his eyes.

    “Lian Mu.”

    “Huh?”

“…Your hands are a little cold.”

Lian Mu paused, and then he placed his slightly cool palms more closely on Yun Suishui’s still intact shoulders, using his own slightly cool body temperature to soothe the other person’s body that was tense due to pain.

“After the medicine is applied, the cold will stop.”

The stinging sensation of the medicinal powder was gradually replaced by a burst of coolness, and Yun Ran’s tense body gradually relaxed. Lian Mu tied his clothes again and gently helped him lie down.

Yun lay casually on his side, his cheek pressed against the cool pillow, his brows still frowning unconsciously. He said “it doesn’t hurt”, but the cold sweat on his forehead and the slight breathing betrayed his weakness at the moment.

Lian Mu sat on the edge of the bed and did not get up immediately. He looked at Yun Suiran’s pale face, stretched out his hand, and very gently wiped away the physiological tears caused by the pain in the corners of his eyes with his fingertips, and brushed away his sweat-soaked forehead.

His fingertips were covered with thin calluses from years of martial arts practice, and felt slightly cool, and every brushing was carried with careful cherishment.

“Don’t frown.” Lian Mu’s voice was very low, with a coaxing tone, like a feather gently brushing against his heart, “Relax.”

Yun casually moved his eyelids, but did not open them. He just let out a vague hum from his throat, as if in response. He seemed to feel uncomfortable in his posture, and subconsciously moved his shoulders. When the wound was involved, he took another breath of pain.

When Lian Mu saw this, he immediately leaned over and gently held the back of his neck with one hand. The other hand carefully raised the quilt under him and adjusted it to a position that would least compress the wound.

His movements were so natural, as if he had done them thousands of times.

“Does it still hurt?” Lian Mu asked in a low voice, his tone full of distress.

Yun Sui Sui finally slowly opened his eyes, and his pair of peach blossom eyes that were always full of energy were now misty and watery, looking particularly innocent. He looked at Lian Mu who was so close, and looked at himself clearly reflected in his eyes, and suddenly felt a soreness in his nose.

“Lian Mu…” he whispered, his voice nasal, like a wronged child, “I’m thirsty.”

“Wait.” Lian Mu stood up immediately, his movements so fast that he brought up a gust of wind. He walked quickly to the table, poured a glass of warm water, and used his spiritual power to adjust the water temperature to the most suitable, and then walked back quickly.

He helped Yun Ran sit up halfway and handed the water glass to his lips.

Yun Ran drank too hastily, and the water flowed down the corner of his pale mouth and dripped on his clothes. Lian Mu was not impatient at all and just wiped it gently for him with his sleeves, and tilted the water glass towards him to make it easier for him to drink.

“Slow down.” Lian Mu looked at him, his eyes so gentle that water could drip from his eyes.

After drinking the water, Yun felt a little more comfortable, but he didn’t want to lie down by himself. He looked at Lian Mu, his misty eyes filled with “don’t want to separate”.

Lian Mu understood. He helped Yun lie down casually again, and sat down on the edge of the bed. He didn’t put on shoes anymore and went to bed. He just leaned half of his body over and patted his back gently, just like before.

“Go to sleep.” He leaned down, close to Yun Ran’s ear, and his voice became softer, almost breathy, “I’ll stay here and won’t go anywhere.”

As if taking a reassurance, Yun Suiran rubbed Lian Mu’s hand and found a comfortable position. He stretched out his hand from the quilt, groped and grabbed the corner of Lian Mu’s clothes, and held it tightly.

Lian Mu looked at his small gesture of dependence, with a very light and gentle curve at the corner of his mouth. He took Yun’s free hand with his backhand, wrapped his slightly cold fingers in his palm, and rubbed it gently, trying to give him some warmth.

He pulled a thin quilt and carefully covered Yun Suiran, lest he touch his wounds.

“You don’t have to be afraid of anything,” Lian Mu continued to pat his back gently, his movements jerky but gentle, like coaxing a baby to sleep, “I’m here.”

Perhaps the deep voice was too reassuring, or perhaps the warmth conveyed by the broad palm was too real, Yun Sui’s frown finally slowly relaxed.

He loosened his grip on the corner of Lian Mu’s clothes, his breathing gradually became longer and more steady, and he completely fell asleep in this safe harbor.

Lian Mu looked at his peaceful sleeping face and sighed softly, his breath full of pity.He did not withdraw his hand and let Yun grab it at will. He did not close his eyes all night, but watched quietly, like a patron saint, blocking out all the wind and frost in the world.
