EAY Chapter 2

The Indifferent Ghost
2
Although Shi Ran had helped Qi Ye, they didn’t become familiar because of it.
Qi Ye felt it was still his fault. If he were a normal person, upon encountering the person who helped him the next day, he would proactively greet them or give a small gift to express his gratitude, right?
Qi Ye did nothing. He really lived up to what Shi Ran had said – he was so ungrateful.
He also hesitated about going to the tuckshop to buy some snacks or drinks, but Shi Ran was always surrounded by so many people that he didn’t have the courage to hand anything over.
He was always alone, while Shi Ran was the popularity king, who probably didn’t even care about his reaction.
But Qi Ye thought, regardless of whether he cared or not, he had to show something.
Finally, during a Physical Education class when the teacher let everyone have free time on the sports field, Qi Ye secretly ran back to the empty classroom, took out the drink hidden in his desk, and placed it on Shi Ran’s desk.
It was a can of grapefruit soda. Qi Ye’s sister had bought a box of them for the house, and because he couldn’t think of anything else to buy, Qi Ye had taken a can with him when he left for school.
After placing the small gift of gratitude, Qi Ye finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But just as he was about to leave, he saw Shi Ran walking in with one hand in his pocket, cockily raising his chin at him: “Doing something bad in the classroom?”
Qi Ye was already nervous upon seeing him, and this question made it seem like he had really done something shameful.
Shi Ran walked over, noticed the drink, and chuckled. “What is this thing?”
Qi Ye was panicked inside, but his face remained expressionless: “I don’t know.”
Shi Ran: “Didn’t you put it there?”
Qi Ye: “I don’t know.”
Shi Ran: “It wasn’t on my desk when I went out, and you’re the only one here now.”
Qi Ye: “……I put it there.”
“See, what’s so hard to admit about that? Your personality is really awkward.” Shi Ran picked up the drink and looked at it. “Doesn’t seem like it’s my favorite flavor.”
Qi Ye immediately asked: “What flavor do you like?”
Shi Ran laughed again: “Are you going to buy it if I tell you?”
Qi Ye slowly nodded.
“No need, a verbal thank you is enough. I don’t need these things.” Shi Ran patted him on the shoulder. “Thanks.”
Qi Ye immediately felt half of his shoulder, even half of his body, go numb. He stiffly walked towards the classroom door.
Shi Ran asked from behind: “Where are you going?”
Qi Ye: “I have something to do.”
Shi Ran said helplessly: “It’s weird to leave me alone in the classroom.”
Just as he finished speaking, the voices of other students echoed in the hallway. Qi Ye didn’t stop and continued to walk out in a daze.
Qi Ye was just a fool who didn’t know how to seize opportunities. He could have taken the chance of giving the drink to say a few more words, or he could have taken the opportunity to become familiar with Shi Ran.
He didn’t expect to become friends with Shi Ran, but he would have been satisfied with just a nodding acquaintance when they met on the road.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t even achieve that.
Qi Ye continued to drift through the school like an indifferent ghost, while Shi Ran continued to be the school’s popular king with a bright smile.
They were in the same classroom, but they lived completely different lives.
But thanks to Shi Ran, Qi Ye didn’t have to do homework for other classmates anymore. He devoted all the time he saved to Shi Ran.
Qi Ye, this ghost, also began to have his own little secrets.
Of course, of course, he had already decided to take this secret to the grave, and he would never tell anyone.
His parents were both open-minded and didn’t snoop through their son’s diary to understand his quirks. Qi Ye’s room was also always cleaned by himself.
The only slight danger was Qi Xue, his gossipy older sister.
She always asked about Qi Ye’s friendships at school and often entered his room unannounced to “borrow” things.
If Qi Ye bought a locked notebook specifically for his secret, and Qi Xue accidentally discovered it, it would be like using a dried fish to lure a greedy cat.
Even if she was scolded by her parents and faced Qi Ye’s anger, Qi Xue would still break open that diary.
So, where to put the secret diary? Qi Ye pondered for a while.
He finally decided to put it in the drawer in the closet that was specifically for underwear. This was the place Qi Xue despised the most, and she would never touch it. And their family’s habit was that after the clothes were dried, each person was responsible for collecting and folding their own clothes. Others would at most help bring them in on rainy days and throw them on the sofa.
If a person didn’t take back their own clothes, they would stay there forever.
However, what Qi Ye didn’t expect was that many years later, he would voluntarily hand the diary over to Qi Xue to read. It was filled with too many childish things, and he deliberately took it out to make Qi Xue happy.
The annoying thing was that Qi Xue wasn’t content with just enjoying it herself, she also showed it to her boyfriend at the time, and the two of them laughed non-stop.
And then, his diary was forcibly taken away by her boyfriend.
You might not believe it, but that boyfriend of hers was the protagonist in the diary.
Yes, it was Shi Ran, the most popular person in the class.
It’s reasonable that you don’t believe it, because Qi Ye wouldn’t believe it even if he was beaten to death now.
Even after being together for a long, long time, Qi Ye would occasionally feel that he was just having a beautiful dream.
And then he would accidentally press somewhere, and the dream would wake up.
But even if it was a beautiful dream, there was still a very, very long time before that dream arrived.
