But only hesitated for a moment, Qi Ye immediately said, “Yes!”
Shi Ran was a little surprised, “Oh?”
“I think eating is more important.” Qi Ye said, “They should be able to take care of themselves.”
Shi Ran was stunned, then smiled, the knot between his brows seeming to loosen. He leaned slightly towards the others, “Sorry, you heard it too, eating is more important, I’ll go first.”
He finished speaking and, without waiting for the others to retort, put his arm around Qi Ye’s shoulder and left.
Once outside, Qi Ye suddenly remembered his milk tea. His number was just being called, so he told Shi Ran to wait.
Shi Ran watched him come out with four cups of milk tea, “Someone who has no money for dinner is buying so much milk tea?”
“It’s for my sister and her friends.” Qi Ye smiled embarrassedly. He took another cup and gave it to Shi Ran, “For you.”
Shi Ran: “Isn’t it for them?”
“It’s okay, there are only three of them.”
“Then aren’t you drinking any?”
“I don’t really like it, it’s too sweet.” Qi Ye said, “But if I don’t drink it, Qi Xue will nag.”
“Why?” Shi Ran was curious.
“Well, she’s like that. She won’t allow others to dislike things she likes very much. If I say I don’t like it, she has to make me try until I like it.” Qi Ye said, “Especially when it comes to food.”
“Not being possessive about food is still pretty good.” Shi Ran said.
Qi Ye shook his head, “There are exceptions. If she really wants to eat something, she definitely won’t share it with others. Her personality is quite special, I still haven’t figured her out yet.”
“Sounds interesting.” Shi Ran didn’t want to judge someone else’s sister, so he steered the topic back, “Are you going to eat with them?”
“Aren’t you inviting me?” Qi Ye looked at him.
“It’s not that, it’s just, you came out with them, so—” Shi Ran thought for a moment and said, “It’s up to you, I’m okay with either.”
“Of course I want to be with you.” Qi Ye said without much hesitation.
Shi Ran inexplicably felt like he was being favored. He knew he hadn’t misjudged Qi Ye.
“Wait for me, I’ll go drop this off and come right back.” Qi Ye said, then took the milk tea and strode forward.
“Okay.”
Shi Ran looked at him and took a sip of his milk tea. Sweet, just the way he liked it.
“There were a lot of people in line at the milk tea shop, right?” Qi Xue saw that he only brought back three cups. “You’re not drinking any?”
Qi Ye shook his head and whispered to Qi Xue, “I ran into a friend, I’m going to have dinner with him.”
“Now?” Qi Xue was very surprised that her brother actually had a friend he could have dinner with, and was abandoning them halfway.
Qi Xue was naturally very curious about this friend, “Bring him over to eat with us, we can just add another pair of chopsticks.”
Qi Ye shook his head, “It’s not good.”
“Tsk, what’s not good? Am I scary? Will I eat your friend?” Qi Xue also leaned over and asked in a low voice, “Boy or girl?”
“Boy.” Qi Ye knew that if this continued, Qi Xue would gossip even more, so he quickly got up and moved away from her.
Qi Xue waved her hand helplessly, “Go, go.”
The classmate next to her asked, “What’s wrong? Why did your brother leave?”
“He abandoned his old sister when he ran into a friend.” Qi Xue stuck her straw into the milk tea and took a big sip. “I have a feeling it must be a cute girl.”
Oh my, I really didn’t expect this from Qi Ye.
–
The weather turned cold, and the things suitable for eating outside also decreased. Without waiting for Qi Ye to choose, Shi Ran took him directly to another hot pot restaurant.
“Can you eat spicy food?” Shi Ran asked.
Qi Ye thought for a moment and said, “I can handle it.”
Based on his understanding of Qi Ye over the past few days, Shi Ran cautiously chose a yin-yang pot. Sure enough, Qi Ye’s main target for putting food in was the clear broth side.
“The dipping sauce I made is super delicious, try it!” Shi Ran enthusiastically handed over a small bowl. Qi Ye took it with both hands.
The hot pot was steaming, and Qi Ye’s mood was also soaring with the heat, completely overwhelmed.
He used to be a bit cautious when eating out, but now, he had accepted the bowl without really looking at what was inside.
“How did you notice?” Shi Ran asked suddenly as he was eating, “Just now, when I was with those guys, how did you see that I wasn’t very happy?”
“I guess it was intuition.” Qi Ye smiled. “Actually, I wasn’t sure, and I was prepared to be scolded by you.”
“Am I that fierce?” Shi Ran said, “At least I’m pretty good in front of my friends.”
He wasn’t someone who liked to pick fights or stir up trouble every day. Most of the time, trouble came looking for him first.
The word ‘friend’ was truly wonderful.
It felt so much closer than ‘classmate’.
“Actually, it was my problem today. Those guys are just a little playful, they’re not bad kids. We did have a lot of fun playing together before.” Shi Ran poked at the meatballs in his bowl with his chopsticks. “It’s just that I was thinking about some things and felt like it was pointless to keep playing like that.”
“What were you thinking about?” Qi Ye asked.
“A lot of random stuff. Last time—” Shi Ran was still hesitating whether to tell Qi Ye about it when he suddenly noticed that the person across from him didn’t look right. “Why is your face so red?”
“Huh?” Qi Ye felt a bit itchy and scratched his face. “Maybe it’s just hot from the food, it’s nothing.”
“I don’t think something is right.” Shi Ran leaned closer to look. The redness on Qi Ye’s face was spreading rapidly like ink on paper. “Are you allergic to something? Pork, beef, or maybe cilantro or celery?” Shi Ran’s eyes quickly scanned the table.
“I, I’m allergic to peanuts.” Qi Ye said slowly. He was definitely feeling uncomfortable now.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier, oh my god!” Shi Ran slapped the table. “There were peanut crumbs in the dipping sauce I made for you!”
Qi Ye leaned forward to take a look. “There really are.”
“I’m speechless.” Shi Ran quickly called the waiter to pay the bill, then pulled Qi Ye out of the restaurant. “We have to go to the hospital!”
–
After getting an anti-allergy shot at the hospital, the itchy feeling all over his body slowly subsided after a while.
Qi Ye sat in the hospital hallway while Shi Ran went to get his allergy medicine.
When he first found out he was allergic to peanuts, he would carry the medicine with him, but gradually he found that as long as he paid attention to his diet, he didn’t need to bring it anymore.
And when he ate out, it was either by himself or with his family, and his family knew about his allergy and would help him pay special attention.
A situation like today was really rare.
“Here you go.” Shi Ran came back with the medicine. “The instructions are on the package.”
“Okay, thank you.” Qi Ye took it, then looked apologetic, “I’m really sorry, I ruined this meal.”
Shi Ran looked at him, didn’t say anything, and then couldn’t help but chuckle.
Qi Ye was confused, “What’s wrong?”
“Your face is so funny right now, your cheeks look like they’re rouged.” Shi Ran said, laughing. “It’s the first time I’ve seen someone’s allergic reaction so directly, it’s really an eye-opener. Hey, can I take a picture?”
Qi Ye reflexively covered his face with his hands. “Don’t, please.”
Shi Ran’s quick mind turned, “If you really feel sorry, let me take a picture.”
Qi Ye hesitated and put his hands down, straightening his posture. “Then, you can’t show it to anyone else.”
“Do you think I’m that bored?” Shi Ran said. “Don’t worry, I won’t show it to anyone, and no one dares to take my phone. I’ll just keep it for myself, to amuse myself when I’m bored.”
“Okay, then.” Even though it would be a very ugly photo, Qi Ye thought, if it could add a little fun to Shi Ran’s boring time, it wouldn’t be too bad.
Shi Ran raised his phone to take a picture, and even pushed his luck, “Can you make a cute pose?”
Qi Ye scratched the back of his neck helplessly. “I, I’m not good at that.”
“Okay, okay, just stay like that.” Shi Ran happily pressed the circle in the middle. “Perfect.”
