“Have you decided on anything?” Qi Xue snapped her fingers in front of Qi Ye.
Qi Ye had been selecting dishes on Qi Xue’s phone for a long time, but hadn’t added a single one to the shopping cart.
He was spacing out and not paying attention at all.
“You guys choose, anything is fine with me,” Qi Ye returned the phone to his sister.
“Why have you been spacing out more and more lately?” Qi Xue shook her head helplessly and handed the phone to her friend beside her. “See if you want to add anything else.”
“Qi Xue is so generous, treating us as soon as she gets a scholarship. How will I live without you in the future?” her friend joked.
“So you have to cherish the present. I’m graduating soon, and I won’t have time to treat you to meals,” Qi Xue smiled.
“Yeah, I get a headache just thinking about entering society after graduation. I still want to play.”
“I have to continue studying for my master’s. It’s so difficult to get in now, it’s really annoying.”
“I’m going back to my hometown after graduation. My family has already found me a job.”
“At least you have support in your hometown.”
“But everything is controlled, it’s so annoying.”
Once they started chatting about graduation, everyone naturally opened up, each with their own worries. Qi Xue was the type to prepare early, so she wasn’t worried at all. At the moment, she was more concerned about her silly younger brother.
He’d been acting strange since he came back from school the other day. He was spacing out and giggling at his hands from time to time.
It was kind of creepy.
At first, Qi Xue thought he might be in love. Her brother had a good appearance and was tall enough, but his personality was too dull and he wasn’t enlightened. Love was too far away for him, it was unlikely.
Then had he been bullied? Also unlikely, being bullied wouldn’t make him happy every day.
At this moment, Qi Ye was repeatedly savoring “friend, friend,” and Shi Ran’s bright and beautiful smile under the setting sun that day.
He really didn’t expect that he could become friends with Shi Ran.
The feeling of their fists lightly bumping was still echoing in his heart, Shi Ran’s hand was slightly cool.
Today was Saturday, his sister and her two friends were shopping, and Qi Ye was temporarily called out to carry their bags. They had bought too many things.
“By the way, little brother, I heard from your sister that you’re in your second year of high school, right? How is it? Are you interested in studying at our university?” One of the girls next to Qi Xue noticed the quiet Qi Ye.
“His grades are better than mine, he can go to a better university,” Qi Xue waved to the waiter and gave her the menu they had ordered. “He has his own ideas.”
Before Qi Ye could speak, another girl smiled and said, “I know, I know, Qi Xue’s brother is very good at drawing. Those creative T-shirts that Qi Xue sold before, those patterns were all drawn by Qi Ye, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
At that time, Qi Xue’s school happened to be holding an event, and Qi Xue wanted to make a batch of creative T-shirts to sell, but unfortunately, her drawing skills were too poor, and asking a few friends for help was also not good enough. She happened to see her brother’s sketchbook and pulled him to help.
“I thought I could at most sell back the capital, but I didn’t expect it to sell out all at once. Ah, the feeling of making money is so good,” Qi Xue still remembered that wonderful feeling.
Her friend smiled and asked, “Did you give our little brother a share?”
Qi Xue: “Of course I did, we’re siblings, we have to be clear about the accounts. But this brother of mine is really too silly, he doesn’t even ask how much I give him.”
“So you can’t bully your brother,” her friend said.
Qi Ye waved his hand: “No, my sister wouldn’t.”
“Oh, your sister is so smart, she’s a natural for doing business. The first one she took advantage of was you.”
“Don’t try to stir up trouble between us siblings.”
“Yo yo yo, are you afraid we’ll ask something out? Brother, you can say whatever you want, we’ll back you up here.”
Probably because they rarely saw such a quiet and introverted boy, they kept teasing him. Qi Ye was a little restless. When his eyes glanced out the window, he happened to see Shi Ran and a few boys walking past, talking and laughing. One of them even put his hand on Shi Ran’s shoulder.
They walked towards the opposite side of the shopping mall, heading straight for the largest game arcade in the mall.
Qi Ye almost stood up as he watched. Qi Xue said, “What’s so attractive outside? Aren’t you hungry? The food is here.”
“Oh, I’m not very hungry.” Qi Ye didn’t know what he was thinking, but his body naturally stood up. “I’ll go buy you guys milk tea.”
After speaking, he didn’t wait for the others to reply and immediately walked out of the store.
“Qi Xue, your brother is really honest.”
There was a milk tea shop next to the game arcade. Qi Ye ordered four cups of pearl milk tea. There were more than thirty cups waiting in front of him. He stuffed the receipt into his pocket and walked towards the game arcade next door.
He didn’t have any other ideas, just wanted to take a look.
The game arcade was very noisy. In addition to the sounds of various machines, there was also the occasional clattering of falling coins. Qi Ye walked around for half a circle before finding them in the billiards area.
Shi Ran must have made a very good shot, because the boys were shouting and patting Shi Ran on the shoulder.
Shi Ran didn’t smile much, still cool.
After all, he’s the boss, Qi Ye thought with a smile.
It was good to see him, Qi Ye turned around to leave, but suddenly saw Shi Ran take out his phone and look at it, sigh, and put it back.
Was he, looking at the time?
Qi Ye inexplicably felt that Shi Ran seemed a little impatient.
If he and Shi Ran were strangers, he probably wouldn’t care about this at all. After all, looking at the phone was too normal and too common. But the person who cares about you will unconsciously think a lot for you.
Qi Ye felt that Shi Ran seemed a little out of place among these boys.
He wasn’t playing attentively enough, even worse than when he was spacing out over there just now. He was even unhappy.
However, this might be Qi Ye over-analyzing.
But no matter what, he wanted to try.
The worst-case scenario was being misunderstood and ridiculed, but what if Shi Ran was really unhappy here?
Before he could figure out what to say, Qi Ye’s feet had already automatically brought him in front of these people.
Shi Ran and the other three boys stopped and looked at him.
Qi Ye was a coward, most afraid of being looked at by so many people at once. Even though he hadn’t done anything wrong, it felt like he was being judged.
Shi Ran still smiled at him kindly: “You’re here to play too?”
Qi Ye nodded slowly.
The others didn’t think it was interesting and continued to play their own games.
Qi Ye thanked God that there were fewer people watching him, and walked straight to Shi Ran. “You, do you want to go eat with me?”
“Now?” Shi Ran raised his eyebrows, but his bright eyes were already full of agreement.
One of the boys immediately straightened up from the pool table, “You, that what’s-his-name,” They had been classmates for so long, but he still didn’t remember Qi Ye’s name. But it didn’t matter, he scratched the back of his head and said impatiently, “Didn’t you see Shi Ran playing with us? Go away, don’t disturb us.”
Shi Ran’s tone was cold: “Is it necessary to talk like that between classmates? He came to find me, not you.”
That person laughed awkwardly: “I just think, this person doesn’t know what’s going on.”
Someone else said, “That’s right, Shi Ran, we finally got you out to play, how can this kid cut you off halfway?”
Qi Ye felt that the arrows were about to point straight at Shi Ran, so he immediately said: “Shi Ran and I, still have a debt to settle!”
“What’s going on, does Shi Ran owe you money?” someone asked mockingly.
“No, it’s not,” Qi Ye said seriously, “Shi Ran owes me a meal. I came out today and just happened to not bring any money to eat.”
This reason was really terrible.
Why couldn’t he make up something that sounded a little more believable?
“Oh my god, I’ve learned something new. There are still people who come out to eat without bringing money these days.”
“Wouldn’t he have gone to eat a free meal if he hadn’t met Shi Ran?”
As expected, he received fierce ridicule.
Shi Ran also curled the corners of his mouth and looked at Qi Ye helplessly.
Anyway, he had already embarrassed himself, he had to take the person away no matter what. Qi Ye mustered his courage and looked at Shi Ran, “Can you treat me to a meal today?”
Shi Ran crossed his arms and looked at him noncommittally, “I did come out to play with them first. Are you saying I should abandon them now?”
Qi Ye shrank back and hesitated.
