Double A In Line Chapter 2
byChapter 2: A Day Trip to the Public Security Bureau
Cheng Yan was first shocked by the giant wolf that appeared out of thin air, and then he saw the law enforcement officers at the entrance of the alley. Although he was glad someone had finally come to help, he couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled.
He had only just reported the incident; was the efficiency of the District 3 law enforcement really this high?
“Captain, what should we do?” Just as the voices drew closer, the originally noisy footsteps suddenly vanished, followed by the sound of several people gasping and hesitant inquiries.
Standing at the mouth of the alley, the law enforcement officers looked at the strange creature they had never seen before. None of them dared to make a move, only able to consult the captain leading the team at the front.
Ying Hui, the captain in charge of the command, looked at the giant wolf blocking the alleyway and pinning a man firmly to the ground. He then glanced at the two people struggling further inside the alley. He felt a surge of anxiety; his nephew’s condition looked quite bad, and he needed to be injected with a suppressor immediately.
But this monster… Unsure of the current situation, he didn’t dare rashly order his men to rush in and risk their lives.
However, giving up on the rescue was also impossible.
Yet, even as the law enforcement team drew their firearms and prepared to deal with the giant wolf, it remained motionless, quietly suppressing the person beneath its paws.
“Stop!” Seeing this, Ying Hui immediately signaled the others to cease their attack. The monster didn’t seem to have any intention of attacking others; a rash assault might backfire and cause unnecessary casualties.
In that case…
Ying Hui made a gesture, first signaling the others not to act impulsively, and then he cautiously began to approach the giant wolf. His palms grew damp and sticky with tension. He gripped his laser gun tightly, aiming it at the giant wolf as he moved toward the alley step by step.
It wasn’t until he bypassed the giant wolf and entered the alley that his heart, which had been in his throat, finally settled back into his chest.
“Keep an eye on this spot.” While feeling relieved, Ying Hui immediately organized the squad to split up. He had some people watch the man on the ground while he called over several Beta colleagues to bring suppressors into the alley to help.
Seeing people arrive, Cheng Yan felt a sense of relief, but he suddenly felt a forward pulling force in his hands. He turned his head to see that Lin Sheng, who had just quieted down, now had eyes even redder than before. Ignoring Cheng Yan’s restraint, Lin Sheng began to charge outward again.
At the same moment Lin Sheng lost control, the giant wolf at the alley entrance, which had been quiet, also began to grow restless and agitated. This caused the officers, who had begun to relax, to tense up once more.
“Quick, restrain him.” Ying Hui had already arrived with his team members. Seeing the situation, he and several colleagues immediately worked together to pin down Lin Sheng’s limbs while telling the team doctor to hurry and inject the suppressor.
When so many people first approached him, Lin Sheng instinctively struggled out of a sense of crisis. But upon seeing Ying Hui’s familiar face, the strength of his struggle weakened.
Who was this person? He seemed to have seen him somewhere before.
“Hurry, while we have the chance.”
A sharp sting suddenly came from the back of his neck. The scorching air finally seemed to dissipate, and his flushed skin gradually returned to its normal color under everyone’s watchful eyes.
It felt as if a clear spring had been poured into his chest, extinguishing the rising urge for destruction. Lin Sheng’s mind, which had been muddled by the heat, finally cleared.
After the sense of chaos in his brain vanished, Lin Sheng was dazed for a moment. Seeing the person pinned under the silver wolf’s paws at the alley entrance, he immediately reminded Ying Hui, “He’s the one I was tailing. Catch him, quick.”
As Lin Sheng slowly stabilized, the giant wolf that had kept the officers on edge finally recovered from its mysterious agitation. Before their eyes, it gradually became transparent and then dissipated with the wind.
Seeing this, the officers at the alley entrance looked at each other in confusion. They hesitantly lowered the firearms they had been holding high. Although they didn’t know what that giant wolf was, the disappearance of the threat brought a collective sense of relief.
The officers’ attention had been entirely on the giant wolf. Now that the source of danger had vanished, they inevitably let their guard down. At that moment, the man who had been pinned down by the wolf suddenly rolled on the ground and scrambled to his feet, trying to seize the opportunity to escape.
However, he had only run a few steps when a loud shout erupted from behind him.
“Catch him!”
It was Ying Hui’s voice. He had just finished listening to Lin Sheng when he turned around and saw the man trying to flee. He immediately shouted to the men standing by at the alley entrance.
Hearing the command, the officer closest to the man instinctively stepped forward, gave the fleeing suspect a shoulder throw, and then twisted his arms behind his back, pinning him to the ground.
Bang! The attacker, who had just been slammed into the ground earlier, made another intimate contact with the pavement.
“Sheng Sheng, how are you feeling?” Once the scene was stabilized, Ying Hui looked back at Lin Sheng and asked with concern.
Just as he arrived at the Public Security Bureau today, he had received a message. His young nephew said he had discovered a suspicious individual who was likely linked to the recent string of pheromone riot cases.
This was originally good news, but what made Ying Hui collapse was that his nephew—who had just reached adulthood and had no professional training—explicitly stated in his message that he saw the man leaving and intended to tail him quietly. Furthermore, he had already put the plan into action.
“I’m fine, as long as we caught him.” Lin Sheng shook his head. His body felt weak, and as he leaned back, Ying Hui quickly caught him.
“What… what’s going on?”
Cheng Yan looked at the crowd of law enforcement officers with a bewildered expression.
Was he… involved in something big?
“Young student, you are a witness to this incident. I’m afraid we’ll have to ask you to come back to the Public Security Bureau with us.”
“Okay.” Cheng Yan was still confused, so he could only nod blankly and follow the officers onto the aircraft heading back to the station.
On the way back to the Public Security Bureau, his nephew’s exhausted body gradually recovered. Ying Hui’s anxiety and worry finally vanished, but it was replaced by the anger that follows a period of intense fear.
“This is a matter for our law enforcement team. What are you doing playing hero, a kid who just started university?” Inside the Public Security Bureau, after listening to Lin Sheng’s detailed statement, Ying Hui slammed the table and stood up abruptly.
“I reported it to the police,” Lin Sheng said in a small voice, shrinking his neck.
“And you think you’re right? I told you to report it, did I tell you to tail him? Did you think about what would happen if he had accomplices? Did you think about how to escape if you encountered danger? If something happened to you, what would your father and the others do! How would I explain it to them?”
By this time, Lin Sheng had completely calmed down. Hearing Ying Hui’s words, he knew he was in the wrong, so he could only tilt his head slightly to avoid the flying spittle.
“Sorry for the trouble we caused you.” In the hallway of the Public Security Bureau, Cheng Yan had just finished his statement and stepped out of the interrogation room. He was speaking with the officer who had questioned him when he heard the shouting from the next room. That booming voice gave Cheng Yan a start even through the door.
“Our boss is just like that, don’t be afraid.” The officer responsible for the statement smiled at Cheng Yan and continued, “After this, you’ll need to sign a paper non-disclosure agreement. Please sit for a moment while I go to the printing room.”
“Okay.” Cheng Yan scratched his head awkwardly and asked softly, “I’ll be free to go after that, right?”
“Once you sign the agreement, you can leave. If we need anything later, we’ll contact you.”
“Alright.” Seeing the officer leave, Cheng Yan looked around for a place to rest. At the same time, he wondered if he could get to know that guy named Lin Sheng when he came out.
Although he had been punched by him, Cheng Yan didn’t hold a grudge. After all, once he understood the situation, he knew Lin Sheng was also a victim. He himself had actually been interfering at the time, so perhaps he should go and apologize?
But… that person’s physical techniques were so impressive. He felt much stronger than a half-baked amateur like himself.
However, just as he turned to find a seat, he saw two people walking into the Public Security Bureau in a hurry.
The familiar military uniform on one of them and the insignia on his chest caused Cheng Yan’s originally excited mood to plummet instantly. His body froze in place, out of his control.
Even though the person in the uniform wasn’t his former father, seeing those familiar elements still made Cheng Yan’s heart race. If one looked closely, they could even see his hands trembling slightly.
When the officer returned with the folder, he was still muttering to himself. It seemed the higher-ups were taking this case very seriously. As soon as they returned to the station and uploaded the details of the case, they received instructions that no one involved was allowed to disclose any information about the incident. Previous related cases were never this strict; not only were the law enforcement officers restricted, but even a passing witness had to sign an NDA.
This debriefing report was definitely going to be hard to write, the officer thought as he walked up to Cheng Yan.
“Student? Student? Student?” The voice in his ear seemed to be coming through a thick mist; Cheng Yan couldn’t hear it clearly. It took several calls from the officer before he snapped out of it.
“Oh, yes.” When Cheng Yan turned his head, his gaze was still a bit vacant, as if he were responding subconsciously.
“Are you okay, student?” the officer asked with concern.
“I’m fine. I just didn’t expect to see someone of Major rank here.” Cheng Yan forced a smile and took the folder and pen from the officer, changing the subject. “This is the agreement I need to sign, right?”
“Yes, just sign here,” the officer said, flipping through a few pages and pointing to the last one. After he finished, he didn’t forget to helpfully explain to Cheng Yan, “That is Major Lin Yu. He’s Lin Sheng’s father. He probably heard the news and came over because he was worried about his kid.”
“I see.” Cheng Yan kept his head down, quickly flipping through the agreement. After ensuring there were no issues, he signed his name and handed the folder back to the officer.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.” Without waiting for the officer’s reply, he left in a hurry.
“Sure, you can go…” The officer said while looking down to confirm the document. When he finished and looked up, he found the space in front of him empty.
Cheng Yan had already long gone.
It wasn’t until long after he left the Public Security Bureau that Cheng Yan’s rapid heartbeat finally began to steady.
He had seen that man with the Major’s rank before—just recently on the news. Lin Yu had been standing right next to his father. Cheng Yan remembered they had even exchanged a few words. Were they acquaintances? Were they close? Did Lin Yu recognize him?
Thinking of the man who used to hold the title of his father, Cheng Yan frowned with disgust.
Scumbag!
