    Chapter 7: The Meeting

“Brother Sanhua, I found a new frisbee teacher for you! He’s very impressive!”

Xiao Bu said excitedly early in the morning.

Sanhua noncommittally went to the reception room and met this “very impressive” black bear teacher.

    “…”

“Uh… hello,” the German Shepherd said awkwardly, wearing a pair of round, black bear ear covers.

Sanhua blinked, hiding a smile, and sent Xiao Bu away.

    “Long time no see.”

“I didn’t expect the owner of the villa to hate dogs so much,” the German Shepherd explained the reason for his disguise, feeling absolutely terrible about himself.

To look more like a black bear, he hadn’t groomed his fur today, making his face look fluffy, and he wore a white, crescent-shaped scarf.

Sanhua had never seen him in such a—well, both wild and gentlemanly—outfit. His blue eyes scanned him up and down until the base of the German Shepherd’s black ears turned red.

    He praised, “Very majestic.”

“Ahem.” The black bear’s round ears drooped and then stood up again, flapping so fast they were practically fans.

With limited time, the German Shepherd briefly explained his undercover mission at the House of Ragdoll to Sanhua: “Mouseros has been digging holes everywhere, engaging in corruption and breaking the law. He’s a major parasite of the animal kingdom, and we’ve been watching him for years.”

“The arrest of his 1,342nd cousin this time is a great opportunity for the police to lure the mouse out of its hole.”

The German Shepherd had investigated the hamster’s claims; he indeed shared a bloodline with Mouseros, and his previous statement about knowing Mouseros was true.

“It’s just… it might involve you,” the German Shepherd said apologetically.

“It’s fine,” Sanhua replied lightheartedly. “Assisting the police with a case is the duty of every citizen. Besides—”

Under the German Shepherd’s somewhat dejected gaze, he let out a trustful meow: “You’ll protect me, right?”

    Swish—

The black bear’s two round ears began fanning once more.

    ·

That night, wanting to check on how his brother’s undercover mission was going, the Corgi placed a video call to the German Shepherd.

    ?

He saw the German Shepherd leaning against the headboard, reading a book titled One Thousand Poses for Catching Mice.

    ??

    Look again!

    So weird!

The Corgi checked the location—it was indeed the cat villa area, wasn’t it?

“Have the noble cats of today fallen to such a state…” the Corgi muttered. “Still, we dogs are better. By the way, the matter you wanted handled is done.”

He said, “The police dog in the interrogation room ‘accidentally’ let the hamster steal back his phone. I don’t know what the hamster said, but half an hour ago, Mouseros’s lawyer flew to the police station overnight to arrange bail pending trial for him.”

    “This is the one—”

He sent a photo of Night Owl. The large owl was pitch black all over, with sharp, orange-yellow eyes beneath its feather crest like knives, its head twisted 180 degrees to stare at the photographer.

He looked like someone you definitely didn’t want to mess with.

The German Shepherd stared back at him through the screen, and after looking for a long while, he finally noticed a fat hamster dangling from the owl’s beak.

Its four paws were up in the air, its beady eyes filled with terror, wanting to faint but not daring to.

“It’s like this,” the Corgi explained to the German Shepherd. “Mr. Hamster was originally very happy to hear that his cousin had sent someone to bail him out—until his left foot stepped out of the interrogation room.”

Stared down by Night Owl the lawyer’s bright yellow eyes, the hamster’s arrogant expression froze on his face, and he instantly played dead.

But Night Owl the lawyer was indeed a well-traveled, prominent attorney. He twisted his head around, shouted at the duty officer who was about to call an ambulance, and personally performed CPR on the already stiff hamster.

That sharp talon, larger than the hamster’s entire body, rose and fell—

The hamster scrambled up, clung tightly to the duty officer’s uniform pants, and screamed, “Let me back in! Let me back in! I—want—to—confess—”

His voice trailed off into the air.

“Then Night Owl the lawyer flew off with the hamster to see his employer,” the Corgi said. “I looked into it later. Night Owl is a very famous attorney who specializes in Mouse Kingdom cases. His closure rate is very high.”

The German Shepherd looked at Night Owl the lawyer—black feathers, black talons, and a black suit—looking exactly like a member of the Black Claw mob.

    Emmmm—

How should I put it? Either the case gets closed, or the mouse involved in the case gets “closed,” right?
