Chapter Index

    Deeply Entrenched Obsession

The black Porsche sped along the midnight highway. The rain had started again, tapping lightly against the windows, completely isolating the interior from the outside world.

Gin held the steering wheel with one hand, while his other hand remained clamped around Shuichi Akai’s wrist, his grip steady and impossible to break.

Shuichi Akai sat quietly in the passenger seat, no longer struggling. He simply turned his head to watch the neon lights receding rapidly outside the window, his emerald eyes filled with complex, unreadable emotions.

The earpiece had long since been tossed away; communication with the FBI was completely severed.

He had been taken away from Haido Port by Gin in full view of everyone.

    Why aren’t you saying anything?

Gin spoke suddenly, breaking the deathly silence in the car. His voice was low and carried a hint of raspiness. Did you think someone would still come to save you?

Shuichi Akai slowly withdrew his gaze and looked at the man beside him. Doing this will only drive you to a dead end.

    A dead end?

Gin gave a low chuckle. Steering with one hand, he made a sharp turn, driving the car onto a remote, dark mountain path, moving completely away from the city.

From the moment I set my sights on you, I never intended to turn back.

He finally released Shuichi Akai’s wrist, but in the next second, he reached out and gently gripped the other man’s chin, forcing him to look at him.

Cold green eyes were inches away, surging with dominance and persistence, along with a barely perceptible heat.

Shuichi Akai, don’t talk to me about positions or rules.

You lie to me once, and I will watch over you once. You run once, and I will chase you once.

Feeling the slight pressure on his jaw, Shuichi Akai furrowed his brow but did not pull away. We are enemies.

    Enemies?

Gin leaned in close, the distance between them instantly shrinking to the limit, their breaths intertwining.

The enemy who blocked a bullet for me in Northern Europe? The enemy who pushed me to safety during the Yokohama explosion? The enemy whose eyes hide genuine emotions?

He spoke each word deliberately, every sentence like a heavy hammer striking Shuichi Akai’s heart.

You can lie to the FBI and you can lie to yourself, but you can’t lie to me.

    Shuichi Akai’s heart tightened suddenly.

He looked away, his voice cold and hard. I told you, it was all fake.

    Fake?

Gin suddenly let go, and the car came to a steady stop in a hidden spot by the mountain road.

The engine died, and the surroundings instantly fell into total darkness and silence, leaving only the sound of the rain and their breathing.

He turned sideways, bracing one hand against the edge of the seat, looming over Shuichi Akai in his shadow.

    Fine.

Gin’s voice was pressed very low, carrying a serious yet forceful tenderness. Since it’s fake, then from now on, I will make it real.

If you stay in the light, I will wait for you just outside of it. If you want to hold onto your position, I will walk that path with you until the very end.

Shuichi Akai looked up, his gaze darkening. What do you want to do?

    What do I want?

Gin’s fingertips lightly brushed across his cheek, the movement carrying an undeniable force.

From today on, you aren’t going anywhere for a while. No urgent FBI missions, no confrontations between enemies—only you and me.

    Stay by my side.

The tone was a statement, not a question.

Shuichi Akai’s chest felt slightly tight. The logic he had kept taut for so long developed a crack at this moment.

He hated the Organization and loathed the darkness, but facing this man, he could never bring himself to be completely heartless.

Those moments of tacit understanding while fighting side-by-side, the protection in life-and-death moments, the tension of their confrontations on rainy nights…

    None of it was fake.

You are forcibly confining me, Shuichi Akai said, his voice slightly hoarse.

    Yes.

Gin admitted it frankly, without a hint of malice in his eyes, only a sense of absolute determination. I am going to keep you by my side.

To keep you here, to see your heart clearly, and to block all your paths to facing danger alone.

Until you admit with your own mouth that you and I can no longer be separated.

He restarted the car, turned the steering wheel, and drove toward a hidden safe house deep in the mountains.

Shuichi Akai leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes.

He knew very well that from the moment he was brought into this car,

The line between them called enemy had completely collapsed.

The entanglement of black and silver had finally moved in the most intense and fatal direction.
