Chapter Index

A Rainy Night at Haido Port

Heavy rain pelted Haido Port, cold water splashing into murky puddles. The air was thick with the salty tang of seawater and a faint scent of gunpowder.

Shuichi Akai hid in the shadows of the shipping containers, his black knit cap soaked through and clinging to his forehead.

His identity as an undercover agent had been exposed. There was no way back; he could only wait here for his one and only archnemesis.

The low rumble of an engine suddenly pierced the rainy night.

A black Porsche glided into the pier like a ghost of the night. Its headlights cut through the curtain of rain before it came to a steady halt not far away.

The car door opened, and Gin stepped out slowly.

His long black trench coat whipped in the wind and rain, his silver-gray hair flying wildly. His cold green eyes scanned the area, an overwhelming pressure radiating from him.

His gaze locked onto him with precision.

    “Dai Moroboshi.”

Gin spoke, his voice hoarse and cold, his hatred unconcealed.

This name was a thorn in his heart that could not be removed.

Shuichi Akai slowly looked up to meet that sharp gaze, his tone indifferent. “Long time no see, Gin.”

“Long time no see?” Gin let out a low, mocking laugh. “You betrayed the Organization and kept me in the dark for so long, yet you dare say that to me?”

He took a step forward, the distance between them closing instantly.

In the blink of an eye, he raised his hand, pointing the cold muzzle of a gun directly at Shuichi Akai’s heart.

“Shuichi Akai, do you really think I wouldn’t dare finish you off right here?”

Killing intent surged as the rain intensified.

Shuichi Akai simply stood there quietly, neither dodging nor retreating. His fingers didn’t even reach for his waist.

Facing the gun, his gaze remained steady. “You can try.”

Gin’s knuckles turned white, but the hand on the trigger froze for a moment.

Images surged uncontrollably through his mind—

The unspoken understanding during late-night car chases, the protection during dangerous missions, the absolute certainty they had in each other when cornered.

They were as real as needles piercing his heart.

    He could kill him.

    But he couldn’t.

Shuichi Akai saw through his hesitation. A flicker of complexity crossed his eyes as his tone turned slightly playful. “What, you don’t dare?”

Gin snapped back to reality, his aura becoming even more violent. “Shut up. I just don’t want you to die too easily.”

    “Then what do you want?”

“What do I want?” Obsession swirled in Gin’s eyes. “I want you to see your situation clearly. I want you to remember that you and I are already in the same boat.”

“I am in the light, and you are in the darkness. Our paths were always different,” Shuichi Akai said calmly.

“Different paths?” Gin repeated sharply, his emotions nearly spiraling out of control.

    “Then tell me—

Was the injury you took for me in Northern Europe fake?

Was the moment you pushed me away during the explosion fake?

When you looked at me, were all those emotions fake?!”

The string of questions hit like heavy blows, freezing the air.

Shuichi Akai’s body gave an imperceptible shudder.

Those moments felt more real than any mission and heavier than any identity.

    But he couldn’t admit it.

To admit it would be to fall into an eternal abyss.

“It was fake.” He closed his eyes, speaking each word with cold restraint. “From the very beginning, it was all fake.”

The rainy night fell into an instant, deathly silence.

Gin’s pupils constricted, and the hand holding the gun trembled violently.

He clearly saw through the lie, yet those words stung his heart with pain.

“Very well.” Gin’s voice was bone-chillingly cold. “Shuichi Akai, you’d better remember today.”

“The next time we meet, I won’t give you another chance to lie.”

“I will make you see with your own eyes—

That you and I are already in the same boat.

You have long been tied to me.”

The sound of sirens approached from the distance.

Gin’s expression darkened, knowing he couldn’t stay long.

He coldly dropped the words “Consider yourself lucky” and turned into the rain. His black trench coat cut a sharp arc as he quickly vanished into the depths of the night.

Shuichi Akai stared at that retreating figure for a long time without moving.

The rain soaked through his entire body, but it couldn’t extinguish the emotions surging in his heart.

    He knew clearly.

After tonight, there was more than just enmity between them.

They were archnemeses, obsessions—a fate that they knew was impossible, yet they were destined to be entangled to the end.

The tug-of-war between black and silver had only just begun.
