Canary Is Actually The Future World-Destroying Boss Chapter 12
byChapter 12
Yuan Hui and Yao returned on an unremarkable afternoon.
At some point, Ji Gui had started standing by the window every day to admire the scenery outside. By the time he realized it, it had already become a habit.
On this day, white snow fluttered down, no different from usual. The snowy winter was much duller than other seasons, yet Ji Gui never grew tired of watching it.
Shang stood beside him. “He’s back.”
He was referring to Yuan Hui.
“Who’s back?” Ji Gui didn’t react immediately.
Shang pointed in a certain direction.
Ji Gui followed his finger and saw several small, moving black dots appearing in the white world.
As time passed, the small black dots drew closer. Ji Gui could finally see that it was Yuan Hui, Yao, and the servants following them.
Even in winter, Yuan Hui dressed lightly. He wore a well-tailored long black trench coat, the hem of which carved an arc through the snow with every step.
The coat was unbuttoned, revealing a light gray high-necked cashmere sweater underneath that hugged his tall, upright frame, outlining his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
Unlike Yao, who was wrapped up tightly with barely his eyes showing, Yuan Hui didn’t even wear a scarf. The biting cold air seemed to have no effect on him at all.
His deep eyes were calm and rippleless. His gaze swept indifferently over the snowy landscape before finally landing in the direction where Ji Gui stood.
This time, Ji Gui did not dodge. He met the gaze and even gave Yuan Hui a sweet smile.
Yuan Hui calmly looked away.
Yao followed obediently by his side, his face full of attachment.
Ji Gui pulled the curtains shut, blocking out the view.
With Yuan Hui’s return, the stagnant air in the manor was refreshed. Ji Gui and Ivy went downstairs almost immediately to stand and welcome him.
The butler was naturally waiting at the front as well.
Yuan Hui entered the hall carrying the chill of the outdoors. Ivy ran over eagerly, standing on her tiptoes. “Let me take your coat, Sir.”
But Yuan Hui waved her off with a smile. “You’re not very tall. Forget it.”
He then beckoned a maid to take his coat.
Ivy retreated sullenly, occasionally glancing up at Yuan Hui.
Ji Gui remained standing obediently to the side without speaking. As for the newly returned Yao, he stood with them as well.
Yao whispered to them, “Sir took me to the seaside. The ocean was so big and kept sparkling…” He quietly described the coastal scenery.
Meanwhile, Yuan Hui had already started walking ahead.
In a rare moment of unified will, Ji Gui and Ivy directly ignored Yao and quickened their pace to follow obediently by Yuan Hui’s side. Ivy was looking for the right moment to ask if Yuan Hui was free tonight.
To her surprise, Ji Gui spoke first. “Sir, I’ve been thinking of you every day I couldn’t see you. Are you free tonight? I feel so miserable without you…”
Ivy bit her lip and looked at Ji Gui with an unfriendly gaze, thinking to herself: Why didn’t he stay in the hospital for a few more days? He comes back and immediately starts competing for favor!
Ji Gui chose to ignore her; he didn’t care what Ivy thought.
Left behind, Yao opened his mouth as he watched their retreating backs. He then hurriedly caught up, squeezing between the two of them and calling out, “Sir…”
Before he could finish, Yuan Hui stopped and turned around. His sharp gaze swept over the three of them one by one. The trio felt their scalps go numb; their postures straightened instantly, and they respectfully lowered their heads.
Three seconds later, Yuan Hui turned and walked away.
The three of them were sensible enough not to follow.
Once Yuan Hui was far off, Ivy turned to Yao and asked in a neutral tone, “Why did Sir take you out alone?”
“Because Sir’s friend wanted to see what I looked like,” Yao said.
Yao’s appearance was indeed outstanding, but what was truly special were his heterochromatic eyes. Since Yuan Hui had paid a high price for him at an auction, he was quite famous. It was reasonable that others would want to see him.
Ivy thought this, but her mood remained frustrated. She had been in the Yuan household for six years and had never stepped foot outside except for when she was seriously ill and went to the hospital.
She couldn’t even imagine the scenery outside. One had to remember that they had no access to electronic products like cell phones, televisions, or computers. They couldn’t even learn about the outside world through those means.
Dark emotions always bred in such moments—or rather, they had existed for a long time and were only now breaking through the soil to sprout.
Ji Gui hadn’t been locked up for six years, so he didn’t have such deep resentment, but he still felt an involuntary envy and a sense of stifling in his chest.
“Oh, that’s nice. I’m leaving.” Although she was using suppressants, Ivy’s emotions were still unstable due to her Heat.
Ivy coldly threw out those words and left immediately.
Yao reached out to stop her but was met with a fierce glare. He pulled his hand back as if he’d been electrocuted, not daring to look at her again.
Ji Gui was also preparing to leave when Yao suddenly grabbed him. “Wait, I want to ask you a question. Is that okay?”
“What?” Ji Gui’s attitude toward him was mediocre.
“What’s wrong with Sister Ivy? She’s been like this since I got back. Is she in a bad mood?” Yao still didn’t understand why Ivy had turned on him. From his perspective, he had simply gone out once, and Ivy had completely changed her attitude.
The corners of Ji Gui’s mouth curled up involuntarily. He narrowed his eyes with ill intent. “How can you ask that? Do you really have no self-awareness at all?”
“Wh… what?” Yao instinctively backed away. Looking at Ji Gui’s smiling face, he felt it was incredibly eerie.
Smiling while saying the most hurtful things.
Ji Gui pressed forward, cornering him against the wall, before sighing. “Don’t you think you only think about yourself? Think about it. You were taken out by Sir while Ivy was left here alone. Don’t you think she feels bad?”
“No… before I left, I begged Sir to take Sister Ivy along, but he refused. I really didn’t only think about myself.” Yao shook his head repeatedly, tears welling up.
“Ah…” Ji Gui let out a short laugh, his mockery unconcealed. He stepped back, nearly laughing until he cried. “So? Who cares what you think? Why are you crying? If you have time to cry in front of me, you might as well go cry to Sir.”
He took a long breath, suddenly feeling physically and mentally refreshed. His frustration had been completely vented. He even wanted to say a few more things to strike Yao down further.
But at that moment, he suddenly remembered that Sir favored Yao exceptionally.
In an instant, he broke into a cold sweat. He had been careless, letting his emotions control him and forgetting that if Yao went to cry to Sir, disaster would befall him.
“I—” Ji Gui was about to apologize.
Before he could, Yao sobbed, “Why? Did I really do something wrong? I… I’m going to find Sister Ivy. She must be feeling terrible right now. I won’t go out next time… she must be angry because I didn’t stay with her.”
“…” Ji Gui fell silent, his frustration returning. He bit the tip of his tongue, no longer in the mood to apologize. “Suit yourself.”
That night, Ji Gui originally thought Yuan Hui would spend the night with Ivy or Yao. To his surprise, a maid told him that Yuan Hui would be coming to his room.
Clap, clap, clap. The sound of clapping came from the side. Shang was sitting by the window again in a relaxed posture. “Congratulations, congratulations. I won’t disturb you then.”
Because the maid was present, Ji Gui couldn’t speak. He could only send back a look of understanding.
“Did Sir really say he was coming here?” Ji Gui recalled the scene from that day, his heart pounding. He was afraid Yuan Hui would throw another knife and tell him to kill himself.
The maid nodded. “Of course. Let me see your hands.”
Ji Gui stopped asking and reached out.
The maid muttered, “Your nails have grown long again.”
She picked up the nail clippers to trim them. If Yuan Hui visited after a long interval, there was usually a nail inspection.
“But… why are your hands so cold? Is the air conditioning not high enough?” The maid held Ji Gui’s hand, which felt like ice water in winter.
It was likely a lingering effect from jumping into the river. Every midnight, his hands and feet became icy. Ji Gui lowered his eyes. “It’s probably just because winter is too cold.”
Hearing this, the maid picked up the remote and turned up the heat.
“By the way, I’ll be taking leave starting the day after tomorrow. I’ll be back in a month. Someone else will take over caring for you temporarily.” The maid picked up Ji Gui’s other hand to trim it carefully.
The warm air from the unit blew toward Ji Gui, and his hands and feet gradually warmed up. He looked up to observe the maid. She had an ordinary face, black short hair with split ends, small eyes, thin lips, and high cheekbones. Her hands were covered in thick calluses from long-term labor.
Ji Gui realized belatedly that she had taken care of him for half a year, yet he didn’t even know her name. He usually called her “Sister” but had never thought to ask for her name.
“Sister, what are you taking leave for?” Ji Gui asked first.
The maid finished one hand and started the other. “To get married.”
She showed a faint smile, the taste of happiness drifting down like spring rain.
Ji Gui, who had been about to ask her name, was instantly distracted by the new term. He asked, “What is marriage?”
If it could make her smile like that, it must be something very good. As happy as eating dessert for the first time, or living in a warm room for the first time.
The maid’s movements paused. The smile on her face grew softer. “It’s when you want to live together with the person you love, openly and forever.”
As she spoke, she used a tool to gently smooth the edges of Ji Gui’s nails. “There will be a ceremony, witnessed by family and friends, where we make promises to each other. For better or worse, rich or poor, we will accompany and take care of each other.”
She looked up at Ji Gui’s bewildered eyes and used a more concrete explanation. “It’s like… finding a person you hope to share all your sweetness with every day, and someone you’re willing to share all your bitterness with. Marriage is telling everyone about this wish and receiving their blessings.”
Ji Gui found it hard to imagine the scene she described, but he instinctively yearned for it.
She continued trimming patiently. “You won’t be alone anymore. When you’re sick, someone takes care of you. When you’re sad, someone comforts you. When you’re happy, there’s someone to share it with immediately. You’ll have a little home of your own, eating together every day, talking together… and maybe, later on, there will be a child.”
She concluded in a very soft voice, sketching out a wish that Ji Gui could never imagine for himself, only gaze at from afar. “It’s… finding a happy, warm home for yourself.”
After listening, Ji Gui blurted out, “I want to get married too.”
The maid’s hand stopped. Her expression turned serious. “Who do you want to marry?”
Ji Gui naturally sensed her shift in mood. At the same time, he remembered how he had been punished by Yuan Hui because of the word “Gui.” Thus, he said decisively, “With Sir.”
The maid’s expression softened, and she resumed her work. “Is that so? That might be very difficult. Do you like Sir very much?”
“I like him,” Ji Gui said without hesitation.
“Alright then.” The maid stopped talking.
The subsequent process was the same as before: bathing, washing his hair, brushing his teeth. Finally, the maid applied lubricant to him; this was usually her responsibility.
Ji Gui was young; he barely had any hair down there. Without lubricant, it was easy to get injured. To be honest, he got injured even with it, but it was better than nothing.
Once everything was prepared, the maid left. Ji Gui waited for Yuan Hui alone.
No one knew what Ji Gui was thinking while he waited. When Yuan Hui pushed the door open, he only saw his “pet” giving a soft smile, approaching slowly with eyes full of deep affection. All his thoughts were condensed into one sentence: “Sir, you’ve come.”
Yuan Hui had to admit that among his many Omegas, this one had the strongest psychological resilience. Even though he had been ordered to commit suicide not long ago, he was now currying favor with an unfazed face.
If he remembered correctly, this Omega was named Ji Gui.
Yuan Hui walked over and pulled Ji Gui down to sit, then stroked his face. A delicate sensation brushed against his fingertips. He smiled and asked Ji Gui, “Is the wound healed?”
He saw the Omega look up at him, his light gray eyes trembling slightly before he took off his clothes to reveal his abdomen. He said, “It’s healed. No scar was left.”
The Omega’s smile remained on his face, unchanged.
Yuan Hui rubbed that spot. The Omega watched him carefully, then leaned directly into him, looking up with sparkling eyes. “I thought you would go see Sister Ivy tonight. I didn’t expect you to come see me.”
As he spoke, the Omega nuzzled into the crook of Yuan Hui’s neck and whispered, “I thought you had grown tired of me.”
Yuan Hui knew that most of this Omega’s emotions were a performance; he had realized that the first time they met.
At their first meeting, this Omega had smiled brightly just like those people who tried to flatter him—a formulaic smile.
He tried desperately to please him, watching his expressions carefully at every moment. After being slapped for crying too loudly, he had become quiet instantly.
Yuan Hui could clearly feel that this Omega was working hard to figure out his preferences, then adjusting his expressions, tone, and reactions like a mask, trying to piece together the perfect pet that best suited his heart.
The Omega would even, in certain moments, reveal a deathly sadness that was completely different from his flattery—like that day when the Omega stood by the window watching him with Ivy.
But now, the Omega’s emotions were very real. Real surprise, real sadness. Fear of being abandoned, joy at being favored. Even if it was still colored with a bit of performance.
“I wouldn’t. Last time I was just a bit angry. Besides, didn’t I say I like you more than I can say?” Yuan Hui’s hand moved toward the private areas.
The Omega let out a muffled groan and hugged him tighter. “That’s wonderful. It’s so good that you like me. It feels like a dream has become reality.”
“What dream?” Yuan Hui asked along.
The Omega looked at the ceiling, his gaze seemingly melting, looking a bit dazed. He answered, “Being with you… and then…”
“And then what?” Yuan Hui found it amusing, unsure if he was telling the truth.
“And then I can be happy every day.” Ji Gui’s unfocused eyes snapped back, and he gave Yuan Hui a faint smile.
Anyone who had seen it would know that the smile was almost identical to the maid’s smile from earlier. It was as if it had been carved from the same mold.
“Haha, then how about I come to see you often in the future?” Yuan Hui said with a laugh.
Ji Gui reached out with his hand, which was several times smaller than Yuan Hui’s, and held that large hand. “Thank you, Sir.”
Ji Gui leaned submissively in Yuan Hui’s arms, tilting his face up and watching him.
When Yuan Hui’s hand brushed over his abdomen, his body tensed imperceptibly for a moment before he forced himself to relax.
He actively guided Yuan Hui’s palm to press against his skin.
Yuan Hui’s fingers were warm as they moved slowly.
Ji Gui cooperated by changing his posture to facilitate the movements. His breathing quickened slightly, and he deliberately made his chest rise and fall more noticeably.
When Yuan Hui leaned in close, Ji Gui closed his eyes, his thick eyelashes drooping and trembling slightly.
He made whimpering sounds, his voice thick and breathy.
“Sir…” Ji Gui’s cheeks were flushed, his breath coming in gasps. His misty eyes were filled with shifting affection, like a pool of melting spring water.
But Yuan Hui’s movements were cold and devoid of sentiment. Every motion made Ji Gui let out a painful moan.
The tears at the corners of his eyes were crystal clear as he looked at Yuan Hui pitifully.
Yuan Hui wiped the tears away, but his strength did not diminish in the slightest.
“Sir…” Ji Gui reached out to grab at Yuan Hui, suppressing his pain as he whispered, “Please, be gentler. It hurts.”
“It’s fine. Just bear with it and it’ll be over.” Yuan Hui smiled and continued.
Ji Gui had already expected this answer, so he clung to Yuan Hui and said softly, “Then can you hold me?”
Yuan Hui let out a light laugh, finding it strange. “Why are you so clingy tonight?”
“Because I missed you too much. I’ve been thinking about you these past few days. Thinking about when you’d come back, thinking about whether you could forgive me, thinking about you holding me. You’re back, and you came to find me. I’m really happy.” He proactively hooked his arms around Yuan Hui’s neck.
Yuan Hui embraced Ji Gui. As their skin pressed together, he lightly nibbled at Ji Gui’s neck.
At first, it was a slow probing, like playful teasing, but suddenly Yuan Hui increased the pressure. A sharp pain flared, and Ji Gui let out a small mumble. “Sir, you’re bullying me…”
Yuan Hui’s breath fanned against Ji Gui’s neck. “Why say that? Don’t you want me to mark you?”
“Can you do it now?” Ji Gui asked.
“Of course… not. So we have to practice. Be good and bear with it.” Yuan Hui said casually, then resumed what he was doing.
Ji Gui felt the sharp teeth pierce his skin and sink into his flesh. First came a wave of numbness, followed by a dense, throbbing pain, and finally the sensation of the skin being fully penetrated.
As the foreign object entered his flesh, a swelling ache accompanied the unbearable pain. Ji Gui’s tears fell in a steady stream.
As the process continued, Ji Gui felt a wave of wet heat below. He imagined the soft, rotten earth after a rain; one step down and it was all mud.
He turned his head and saw the curtains by the wall. In a daze, he saw a giant, bloody maw opening on the gray curtains, grinning at him.
The forest of white teeth flashed with a cold light.
Ji Gui’s pupils shrank, his heart rate accelerated, and his muscles tensed.
“Really now…” Yuan Hui’s voice came from above with a sigh. He patted the plumpest part of Ji Gui’s young body. “How did you learn to do this?”
In the blink of an eye, the bloody maw vanished. Ji Gui’s heart hammered with lingering fear, but he gradually relaxed, thinking he must have seen wrong.
Ji Gui turned to look at Yuan Hui with an obedient smile, serving as a response to the previous question.
Yuan Hui didn’t truly want an answer, so he didn’t ask further.
When it was over, Ji Gui was so limp on the bed he couldn’t even move a finger.
When he woke the next morning, Yuan Hui was long gone. As usual, Ji Gui couldn’t get out of bed.
Shang returned early in the morning. He sat by the window as always, looking at Ji Gui from a distance. “How did it feel?”
Ji Gui’s voice was hoarse. “Same as before. Sir’s attitude has turned good again. I can’t tell…”
“Do you think he likes you?” Shang asked.
“He doesn’t.” Ji Gui didn’t hesitate. He really couldn’t see a single thing about Yuan Hui that suggested he liked him.
As they spoke, the maid pushed the door open to bring breakfast. Ji Gui and Shang stopped talking in unison.
After spending the night with Yuan Hui, his breakfast was predictably light. After he finished eating, the maid handed him his medicine.
Ji Gui swallowed it in one go and washed it down with water.
“Is the medicine not finished yet?” Ji Gui couldn’t help but ask. Lately, he had been feeling exceptionally drowsy in the afternoons. Shang told him it was a side effect of the medicine.
The maid packed up the dishes. “The regular cold medicine is finished, but… there are others. It’ll be fine after a while longer.”
Ji Gui thought it might be psychiatric medication; Jiang Nailing seemed to have misunderstood and thought he had a mental illness. Since he wasn’t sick, he naturally didn’t want to take it. He said, “Sister, I’m all better. Why do I still have to take medicine?”
The maid’s smile stiffened. Every time she entered or left the room, she would eavesdrop at the door—this was the butler’s order. And she would hear Ji Gui talking to someone.
And he called this ‘not sick’?
She couldn’t bear to tell Ji Gui he was ill, so she only smiled. “That’s what the doctor said. There’s probably a reason for it. Just take your medicine and don’t worry.”
Ji Gui could only nod.
“Sister Ivy, I’m sorry. It was my fault. I should have stayed to keep you company… I was just being playful and went out with Sir. Please don’t be mad at me, okay? I won’t go out again.” Early in the morning, Yao found Ivy and apologized incessantly. He had gone to her room yesterday afternoon, but Ivy had met him with silence, so he had to block her at her door this morning.
Ivy gave him a cold glance and tried to walk past.
In his anxiety, Yao grabbed Ivy. Ivy grit her teeth and violently shook him off, shouting, “Sir went to your place last night, didn’t he? Are you here to brag to me now? Shut up, I don’t want to see you!”
“No… he didn’t. Sir went to Brother Ji Gui’s place.” Yao explained hurriedly.
Hearing this, the coldness in Ivy’s eyes deepened. She clenched her teeth, her expression turning almost distorted. Finally, she took a deep breath and turned to Yao, forcing herself to speak. “I’m in a bad mood. I’m sorry. Just let me be alone for a while, okay?”
