    Chapter 11 Ding Anna Died…

Ding Anna died ten minutes ago. Tong Wei survived five minutes longer, but in the end, he couldn’t escape the calamity either.

The person who ambushed them was thoroughly prepared, striking a fatal blow to their vitals and cleanly taking two lives.

But for some unknown reason, they only died halfway.

Their bodies were clearly beyond saving, yet their souls strangely detached from their forms and transformed into two balloons.

The balloons were printed with their own faces, capable of seeing and speaking, floating in the air, and even moving up and down according to their will.

The two looked at each other, neither knowing which Player possessed this ability.

The attacker had anticipated this. Before they could recover, the attacker was already controlling their “corpses” to pursue the balloons.

The two strained every nerve to flee, their corpses relentlessly chasing them from behind. Before long, they were cornered.

    This was terrible.

The balloons could float, but not that well. The two fled in utter disarray. After running for a while, Tong Wei suddenly stopped, turned around, and charged toward the corpses.

    Ding Anna: “?!”

She instantly guessed Tong Wei’s intention—they still hadn’t seen the attacker, not knowing if the opponent was round or flat. They were exposed while the enemy was hidden. This passivity would doom them sooner or later.

At this point, they had to take a risk. Tong Wei was going to fight the attacker head-on.

His courage was commendable, but wasn’t this suicide? Ding Anna felt speechless. It would be better if Tong Wei were a basketball; at least hitting someone would have some weight. But now he was just a light, airy balloon. She had never heard of anyone being knocked down by a balloon.

Ding Anna really wanted to rub her temples, but she was also a round balloon, without hands or feet, so she couldn’t.

To Ding Anna’s surprise, Tong Wei skillfully weaved between the pursuing corpses, and after a few maneuvers, he managed to guide the corpses into colliding with each other.

    Ding Anna: “!”

Good opportunity. She quickly tried to summon the game system.

Fortunately, the system in the game never had a physical form; Players communicated with it through thought. Now, even with only their souls remaining, they could still summon it.

The system quickly responded, and a virtual panel unfolded before Ding Anna.

    “Connect to Customer Service!”

The page on the panel quickly turned into a dialogue box, truthfully converting Ding Anna’s thoughts into text.

Player: …We are currently being chased by our own corpses…

Player: Coordinates Dungeon C-914. We encountered a Player ambush! The attacker’s identity is unknown and they haven’t shown their face. This person came prepared, first killing us instantly, then turning our souls into balloons, and then controlling our corpses to continue hunting us. We can’t hold on much longer!

Player: Help! Who is this person? I’ve never heard of anyone having such a heaven-defying ability.

Just as the message was sent, a hand suddenly appeared and tightly squeezed Ding Anna.

“Who are you sending messages to?” the owner of the hand asked with a smile.

    Ding Anna froze.

The person grabbing her was herself, or rather, her corpse.

But Tong Wei had clearly tied them up…

Ding Anna abruptly twisted around to look at Tong Wei. The balloon that had been entangled with the corpses was already defeated, caught by his own corpse and unable to break free.

“You weren’t trying to ask that Customer Service person for help, were you?”

Ding Anna heard “herself” speak again. The voice was familiar, but the tone was completely foreign, clearly indicating the attacker was possessing her body.

The attacker increased the pressure, squeezing the balloon until it continuously deformed: “If so, you can give up.”

“I know a new CS arrived who helped many Players pass Dungeons. If it weren’t for him giving you ideas in the last Dungeon, I could have dealt with you then, and I wouldn’t have needed to make this difficult trip again… Thinking about it, his existence seems a bit redundant, don’t you think?”

This person was the one who slaughtered Players in the last Dungeon!

    Ding Anna was horrified.

“But it’s fine. He’s already been taken care of. Don’t worry, I specifically bought an A-grade item from Joker to send him on his way; there won’t be any mistakes.” The corpse tightly gripped the balloon, its fingertips scratching a squeaking sound across the surface. “Are you still going to waste your energy?”

Ding Anna’s mind was a mess.

Customer Service helps Players. What kind of Player would want to ruthlessly kill Zhang Yu?

Killing both CS and Players, who exactly was this person?

Ding Anna struggled to glance at the panel. Sure enough, there was no reply in the dialogue box.

What happened in the Safe House? Was Zhang Yu still alive? What about Black Spider? Surely he wasn’t completely useless…

Both running Dungeons and returning to Reality were tied to Zhang Yu. If he died… Ding Anna didn’t dare imagine the outcome.

She hadn’t felt this desperate even when she was dying herself.

“Enough small talk.” The corpse said leisurely, pulling a huge birdcage out of the void. The cage was wrapped in a layer of fine mesh, so dense that not even a mosquito could squeeze through. Inside the cage were various balloons packed tightly together. It looked like Ding Anna was about to be locked inside as well.

Ding Anna struggled with all her might, but it was useless. Just as she sank into despair, the long-silent dialogue box suddenly lit up.

CS Little Zhang: You are the owner of the body. Come on, don’t lose to that instant!

Ding Anna was stunned, almost forgetting to struggle.

Zhang Yu was alive… but what did that sentence mean?!

Zhang Yu wouldn’t say that for no reason; there must be a deeper meaning behind it. Think, if she didn’t figure it out soon, someone would die… Ding Anna desperately pushed herself.

I am the owner of the body? Ding Anna repeated the phrase several times, and suddenly her heart stirred. She understood Zhang Yu’s profound meaning—fight for control of the body, don’t lose to the opponent.

This mastermind was inside her body. If she regained control, it might cause a backlash to him!

But the question was how to take it back…

Player: I’m just a balloon now!

CS Little Zhang: Dear, you are a person [Rose]

CS Little Zhang: Balloons can be inflated; people cannot. They are clearly not the same thing.

    Ding Anna: “…”

She suddenly felt a little suffocated.

She racked her brain trying to understand Zhang Yu’s meaning, but Reality wouldn’t give her time to slowly ponder.

The corpse had already opened the birdcage.

    It was over.

Ding Anna felt thunderstruck, watching in horror as she was stuffed into the birdcage.

What did Zhang Yu’s words mean…

At the last moment, her peripheral vision suddenly caught sight of the hole in her torso—the one the mastermind had stabbed. This wound went straight through, draining all her blood. The remaining bloodstains were already starting to dry.

    Ding Anna paused.

This wound seemed large enough to fit a balloon.

Before the thought could fully register, she seized the moment the corpse released its grip to close the cage door and escaped the birdcage. She recklessly charged toward the wound and plunged straight into it.

Balloons in the real world can be inflated, and the soul balloons in the game can also expand.

Before the corpse could react, she expanded herself as much as possible, wedging herself tightly into the wound, making it impossible to pull her out.

The corpse was caught off guard and paused for a moment: “Playing tricks?”

Ding Anna didn’t stop, continuing to expand. She could even hear the sound of her own bones and flesh being squeezed.

It had to be said, the soul balloon was quite sturdy; there seemed to be no immediate risk of explosion.

“This is your body, mere flesh and blood. If you keep expanding, you might be squeezed into a pulp.”

Ding Anna’s heart skipped a beat. She knew she had made the right gamble. If it were truly painless, the opponent wouldn’t need to say that.

If the possessed body was damaged, the person inside wouldn’t fare well either.

“Don’t think you can control someone else’s body without consequence,” Ding Anna gritted out.

Compared to being locked in a birdcage and taken away, abandoning her physical body wasn’t terrifying.

As long as she could drive out the mastermind, there was hope of saving Tong Wei. As long as Tong Wei survived, he wouldn’t abandon her and would surely find a way to resurrect her.

This was their only chance to escape.

    Crack—Crack—Crack—

One bone after another snapped. Ding Anna’s body was deformed beyond recognition.

Before the corpse completely turned into a mess of flesh, the person inside cursed and finally detached themselves.

The corpse crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of blood-stained dust.

Zhang Yu rested his chin on his interlocked fingers, deep in thought for a long time.

What exactly was this Player talking about? Balloons and corpses—how could a person turn into a balloon? Was this a game setting or something else?

This passage was difficult for him to understand. He looked up the unfamiliar characters, but after all the effort, he still couldn’t grasp it.

Perhaps the Player was too immersed in the game, their mind ravaged, leading to mental confusion where they couldn’t distinguish between illusion and Reality, thinking they were a balloon?

When confused, one must rely on willpower. Zhang Yu suddenly recalled an inspirational quote he had heard and confidently replied: You are the owner of the body. Come on, don’t lose to that instant!

After a few back-and-forths, the Player indeed stopped sending messages. They must have been inspired and figured it out.

    Excellent.

    Work Task -1.

    Work Experience +1.

    Learning Progress +1.

Zhang Yu felt that his Chinese language skills would soon break through the fifth-grade level.

He had been at the company for several days, and his colleagues hadn’t noticed at all that he was illiterate. Zhang Yu felt his acting was seamless, truly perfect.

If he had been able to attend school normally back then, given his aptitude, he would probably be a rising star in the business world, dressed in Formal Attire.

What a pity… But why hadn’t he been able to go to school? Zhang Yu’s mind was blank; he couldn’t remember anything.

Never mind, it wasn’t important anyway.

Zhang Yu didn’t dwell on it and quickly dismissed the confusion.

He continued browsing his to-do list, replying one by one. The number of Players seeking his help had clearly increased, asking all sorts of strange questions, which forced him to learn many new words and phrases.

He was replying enthusiastically when a loud crash suddenly echoed from deep within the company, like something heavy falling to the floor.

Zhang Yu was startled. He thought about getting up to check, but a hand rested on his shoulder: “It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.”

Zhang Yu abruptly turned his head, his eyes curving into crescents, clear and bright: “Xichen! When did you get back?”

“Just arrived,” the Ghost Painter said gently. “How was your day?”

“Very good. Many Players gave me five-star reviews. I feel like I could publish a book. I’ll call it The Genius Customer Service. What do you think?”

The Ghost Painter chuckled: “I’d want to buy a copy.”

Zhang Yu: “Oh, you don’t need to buy it. I’ll send you a signed copy then!”
