    Chapter 6: Roy Keene

The lord led me to his office.

“You look well. It seems the lord’s toothache is gone. Toma’s skills are truly something.” A man in his mid-40s was there.

“Ah, my tooth doesn’t hurt anymore. I can finally sleep soundly.”

The lord explained the treatment with a bright expression.

“This is Toma. Roy, please join the conversation.”

Roy’s full name was Roy Keene, and he was one of the few people in the village who had a family name. Other than the lord’s family, he was the only one with a family name.

He was the village police officer, tax collector, assistant to the lord, and even the butler.

That said, he was capable, but it also meant he was burdened with all sorts of troublesome tasks.

He had served the lord since he was a child and continued to support him even after he became an adult. He was the lord’s most trusted confidant.

“Take a look at this.” The lord handed Roy the toothbrush and other things I had brought.

“Toma not only came up with these things, but he also treated my tooth. Is it normal for someone so young to have such ideas and knowledge?”

“He’s also improving the farmland. The farmers who have received his guidance have seen a dramatic increase in their field harvests.”

It seemed Roy had also been observing my work in the fields.

“And he’s doing all of this at such a young age.

Toma, where did you get this knowledge?

    What are you?”

“Actually, I can’t explain it myself.

For some reason, when something happens to me, if I’ve done something similar before, I remember it.

But even now, I still have no idea who I am or where I came from.”

“Roy, I think Toma might be a reincarnated person. Someone who came from a different world.”

“Yes, I wouldn’t be surprised either. We also have the example of the wise Emperor Gregory.

More than anything, he has the same black hair and black eyes as Emperor Gregory.”

Gregory was the first king who founded this country, and he was known as a wise and virtuous ruler.

He rose from the ranks of a knight when he was young and stood up for the people who were suffering under heavy taxes imposed by foreign governments, winning independence.

After becoming king himself, he eliminated foreign interference and implemented good governance.

“Gregory King also had the same eye and hair color as me?”

“Yes, according to legend, his eyes and hair were black.”

There were many white people in this country, but there were also black and Mongoloid people.

People of various races lived here, with different eye colors, hair colors, and skin tones.

Therefore, I wasn’t considered particularly strange.

But it was the first time I had heard that Gregory King was from another world and had the same eyes and hair color as me.

Was Gregory a reincarnated person? I had to find out.

I voiced a question I had been wondering about for a while.

“Wasn’t it Gregory King who spread the Alphabet in this country?”

“Before Gregory, there were no books in this country.

Before that, the church had scriptures and taught a different script, but it was difficult and didn’t spread beyond church officials.

Gregory taught us an easy-to-understand alphabet.”

Roy’s explanation was filled with respect for the wise emperor. He must still be highly regarded.

My speculation was confirmed. Gregory King probably came from the same world as me and spread the Alphabet.

I wasn’t the only one who had come to this world. Perhaps there were other reincarnated people still living.

I might be able to meet someone from the same world. My dreams suddenly expanded.

“By the way, Toma. Would you like to serve me?”

“Eh, I’m still a child.” The lord’s proposal was so sudden that I unintentionally spoke informally.

(Oops.) I felt a little cold sweat, but the lord didn’t seem to mind.

“That’s not a big deal. We can just say you’re an adult. How old are you really?”

“Well, my age is… (Huh? I don’t know my real age.)”

I couldn’t answer when he said that.

“You probably don’t remember anyway. Then we can just say you’re 15.”

“Ah, that would be good. Someone as knowledgeable as Toma would be very helpful.”

Roy had been doing so many jobs himself, so if I joined, it would be a great help to him. He agreed wholeheartedly.

    “Then, let’s hold Toma’s coming-of-age ceremony now.”

Just like that, my coming-of-age ceremony began before I knew it.

Even so, the lord simply acknowledged and declared that I was an adult, and Roy recorded it.

And I was registered as an adult citizen and, in the same flow, became a retainer of the lord.

Well, anyway, my status was now guaranteed, and I would also receive a small salary.

It was a sweet deal for me, who had only been able to monetize by selling herbs to merchants who came to the village.

And someday, it wasn’t impossible to meet someone from my hometown.

This village, Toriholi Village, was a small village with 100 households and a population of just over 400.

The lord who ruled the village was only a baron, but he was a poor noble.

However, the will of the ruler was absolute.

I vowed in my heart to do my best not to displease the lord.
