AWDC Chapter 107
by VolareThe royal palace was thrown into utter chaos. Hoffa, the most powerful figure in the palace, had been murdered. Moreover, the perpetrator was none other than the king himself.
Hoffa’s death was a devastating shock to those who had been brainwashed. Prime Minister Solbeni and the leading cabinet members and nobles were in a state of utter bewilderment, completely losing their ability to make judgments.
Normally, the perpetrator of a murder would be immediately captured and imprisoned. However, the killer was the king himself. Furthermore, Hoffa was found naked in the Queen Mother’s chambers. It was impossible for anyone to hide the affair.
Solbeni and the others couldn’t come up with any solutions or measures to deal with the situation.
This unusual event quickly reached me at the inn where I was waiting.
I immediately led my men to the palace, which was in a state of near defenselessness.
Even when I rushed into the palace amidst the chaos, the guards didn’t even question me.
I figured that in this state, the guards probably wouldn’t challenge my entry. And if any guards tried to restrain me, I was prepared to force my way in. That was why I brought ten men with me.
As I strode in, a nobleman rushed up to me.
“Ah, Mr. Misaki.” It was the viscount who I had treated for his teeth before.
He was on Solbeni’s side, but he had always been grateful to me.
“How is His Majesty?”
“He is so shocked that he has collapsed and remains unconscious.”
“Let me examine him.”
The viscount had complete trust in my skills as a doctor. Normally, he wouldn’t have allowed me, an enemy of the regime, to see the king. Perhaps Hoffa’s downfall had broken the brainwashing. He guided me to the room where the king was. Thanks to him, I was able to reach the king’s bedroom without being stopped by any guards.
Sadal was in front of the room.
“His Majesty is distraught and won’t let anyone near him.”
“It doesn’t matter; calming him down is the first priority.”
The king was in a state of confusion.
“What have you come here for?” He shouted as soon as he saw my face.
“I’m going to give him medicine. Help me.” I instructed Sadal to hold the king.
As Sadal restrained the king, I forcibly made him drink the medicine dissolved in water. The king resisted and thrashed for a while, but eventually calmed down and fell asleep.
After the king fell asleep and the room became quiet, several nobles arrived late to the king’s room.
Half of them looked relieved and half looked bewildered that I was examining the king.
Among them, one man bared his hostility and tried to grab his sword, wondering why I was there. However, only two men showed such hostility, and they couldn’t even take action. The nobles couldn’t be aggressive because of the presence of my retainers behind me and the fact that I had once been in a higher position than them.
“I’ll stay with His Majesty for a while and examine him. He should calm down in two or three days.” After a brief explanation, the nobles seemed relieved.
“P-Please do.”
I had treated them and their families when I was their superior, and I had even saved some of their lives.
“Mr. Misaki is a great doctor.” There were even nobles in the capital who insisted on that at the time. Now, thanks to that, no one objected to me examining the king’s condition.
I was honestly relieved that I didn’t have to argue with them.
The king woke up the next day.
“My mother hates me. She hates me,” he repeated as if in a trance.
I took the king’s hand and looked him in the eye.
The king noticed and silently looked back at me.
“The Queen Mother doesn’t hate you. I’m sure she’ll understand.”
“R-Really?” I saw hope appear in the king’s eyes.
I was finally able to speak with the Queen Mother about a week later. She was in a state of madness after her lover was killed by her son, but she had regained a considerable amount of composure.
Until then, the Queen Mother had been most strongly influenced by Hoffa’s brainwashing. Hoffa’s death didn’t immediately break the brainwashing. I was only allowed to see her immediately after the incident, but I couldn’t speak my true thoughts. I left quickly and entrusted the subsequent treatment to the Guru Labar. However, it took quite a few days for the brainwashing to be undone.
When I met with the Queen Mother again, I was surprised at how weakened she had become. Her physical strength had been depleted by the late-age childbirth.
Furthermore, once the brainwashing was undone, she remembered her lewd acts with Hoffa and became completely ashamed. She simply regretted the reality that she had even had a child with him.
She didn’t want to see even her close friends, and she seemed reluctant to meet with me. I insisted strongly that I wanted to explain the situation of His Majesty the King, and it was finally realized.
“How is Tareem?”
“His Majesty the King is very saddened that he is hated by the Queen Mother.”
“I do not hate my beloved son. Why does Tareem think so?” From this answer, I knew that the Guru had considerably undone the brainwashing of the Queen Mother.
“His Majesty the King is worried about what you said to him.”
At those words, the Queen Mother seemed startled. She seemed to remember when she had scolded her son.
“That is a misunderstanding. I do not hate Tareem.”
“Could you please say that to His Majesty the King?”
“Y-Yes, of course.”
The king finally eased his depressed heart after receiving words of atonement from his mother. I was in a position like the mastermind of this incident, so I also felt a little relieved.
And because of the accumulated anxiety, the Queen Mother’s condition was once in danger. At this time, the king even nursed her and worried, and thanks to that, the Queen Mother finally regained her life.
This is a story from much later, but the Queen Mother regained her health and outlived her son. Also, the child she had with Hoffa was pushed into adoption by a powerful noble without revealing the secret of his birth, and he was excluded from the right of succession to the throne.
