An Yao’S Observation Diary Chapter 26
byStrong winds on Tuesday, September 16th
I finally broke the news
To my surprise, there was no obvious emotion on An Yao’s face.No sadness, no relief, nothing. He just stood up and walked silently into the kitchen.
“Yaoyao?” I walked closer, “You…”
I saw him pick up the kettle, as if he was going to pour himself a glass of water, but when he picked it up, he shook violently. Before he could even aim at the mouth of the cup, he fell straight down, spilling it on the table and leaving a large water stain.
An Yao lowered his head, quietly put down the kettle, and picked up the rag next to him to wipe it.He wiped very hard, even though the water stain was gone, he still wiped mechanically over and over again, with such force that he seemed to want to wipe everything away.
I quickly walked over, held his wrist, took away the rag, and hugged him into my arms.
“Yaoyao,” I gently pressed his head into my arms, “I’m here, I’m here.”
As if she had received some promise, An Yao suddenly fell into my arms without any strength, trembling all over, and a little moisture accumulated on my chest.
“…Really?” he asked whimpering, “Is he really…really dead?”
“It’s true.” I said softly, “I said he got drunk after losing money in gambling, and then he slipped and fell into a ditch and died.”
I felt a sudden tremor in my arms, and the dampness became deeper.
“Yaoyao,” I kissed the top of his hair, “That person will never come to you again in the future.”
“You’re free.”
An Yao stopped sobbing, was silent for a moment, and suddenly burst into tears.
“He’s so disgusting! He deserves to die! He should be chopped into pieces! Why… why did he die like this?!” He cried hoarsely, “He should have been hit by a car and killed. He should have been hung – hung up. How could he, how could he just disappear in such an inexplicable way?”
“Why? Why?!” he roared, “Why did he die so easily? And I can’t do anything… I’m so useless, I can’t even take revenge with my own hands.”
An Yao retched, “What should I do? Qingyan, I really want to vomit, I feel so sick…”
The shadow that that man brought to Anyao was too deep and heavy. Even though he was now free from the suffocating environment, it still turned into a hideous nightmare every night, making it impossible for him to sleep peacefully.I didn’t know what to do or how to comfort him.I am not a person who has experienced it, and I will never be able to truly empathize with it. Any words of comfort are too pale and feeble.
All I can do is hold An Yao tightly.
An Yao’s tears were like the last rain back in the south, continuous and damp, but falling happily, falling heartily on his face, as if he wanted to vent all the continuous moisture in the past, wash out the hidden pain, and usher in the bright sunshine of tomorrow.
But the mildew has already grown, and even if the sun is too bright, the traces will still be there and can never be erased, leaving only a crooked and ugly trace.
Just like the incomplete glands on the back of An Yao’s neck.
He began to talk about his past.
“My father left when I was six years old. My mother wanted to go out to work and earn money, but no one wanted to hire an omega.” His voice was very soft, and his eyes were empty, as if he was just telling other people’s stories. “Gradually, the family’s savings disappeared.”
“My mother thought of many ways. She tried pretending to be a beta, but wherever she worked she needed to see her ID, so she was quickly fired.”
“Then that man showed up.” An Yao smiled. “He pretended to be very good. Not only did he come to deliver things every day, but he also promised that he would treat me as his own. He pretended to deceive all the neighbors.”
“My mother was actually very hesitant at that time, but she was a second-married omega and had to take care of me, a loser. She had no ability to make a living. In addition, this man was stalking me. In the end, she couldn’t withstand the man’s hard work and chose to marry him.”
“He did pretend for a while,” An Yao said. “Of course, it didn’t take long for him to reveal his true nature.”
“Drinking, gambling, beating people…” He slowly counted them one by one. “I don’t know how I endured that period of time. Looking back now, it feels like it was a lifetime ago.”
I didn’t say anything, I just hugged him tighter.
An Yao slowly raised his head and pressed my face gently with his fingertips, feeling a little cool. I don’t know if it was tears or his hands were too cold.
“My mother and I were often covered in injuries. We thought about calling the police and resisting. But we couldn’t fight each other, and the police just tried to mediate for a few words and then turned away… We could only endure it, day by day.”
“After that person knew that we couldn’t resist, he intensified his behavior. Not only did he sell the whole family’s belongings to gamble, but later he didn’t even go to work. He gambled around every day, or stayed at home and beat people.”
“In order to survive, my mother had to secretly pick up scraps and do illegal work… I was too young at the time and couldn’t follow him to work, so I had to help secretly.”
“We were struggling like this for a while, until my mother disguised herself as a Beta and sold lunch boxes at the construction site, and we barely got better.”
An Yao tightened his arms around my neck and buried his face in the crook of my neck.
“That’s when my mother saw clearly the nature of this person. She wanted a divorce, even if she had no money, even if she had to pick up trash, it was better than being beaten to death.”
“But the man refused.”
“As long as my mother mentioned it once, he would beat her. In addition, he would bet bigger and bigger, and when he lost, he would come back and drink like crazy, throwing things in the house all over the floor…” He choked, “When I was twenty years old, my mother’s leg was broken by him.”
“I wanted to stop him, but I was thrown out. I didn’t know what I hit and I fainted quickly.” An Yao’s voice became softer and quieter. “When I woke up, I found that I was locked in a cabinet. The house was quiet and there was no one.”
“I tried to run out, but my mother was gone, and so was the man.”
“Later… later, the man came back and didn’t say anything and didn’t hit anyone again.”
He didn’t speak anymore, maybe he already knew his mother’s ending.
“He was only quiet for two years, until he couldn’t help but gamble again. When he lost, he wanted to sell me to the casino, so I had to -” An Yao gasped, “I had to cut off the glands -”
I hugged him tightly, “Yaoyao, stop talking… stop talking…”
“No, no!” he roared, “I just want to say it!”
“I hate him! I hate him! I hate him!” An Yao roared, tears welling up again, “He deserves to die! He should be chopped into pieces! He should be hit by a car! Why! Why! Why did he die so easily!”
An Yao doesn’t know, and neither do I.
Everyone in the world says that evil will be punished, but the retribution comes too late and too lightly, unable to wash away the pain of the victims. Instead, it allows the evil people to live freely and oppresses the good people to live leisurely. How ridiculous.
An Yao seemed to be mumbling something. The words were soaked in the raging tears, blurred, and eventually dissipated in the warm moisture. Those unfinished words, together with the pain of the past, fell heavily and formed an old mark in my heart that could not be erased.
He cried until he was exhausted, his voice gradually became weaker, and finally he curled up in my arms and fell asleep.I wet the towel, carefully wiped the tears on his face, and then put him into bed.I originally planned to turn around and wash up, but I just took two steps and heard suppressed sobs behind me.
I turned around quickly and saw An Yao huddled in the quilt, frowning, tears rolling down from the corners of her eyes.
“Don’t hit me, please…” He begged unconsciously, “I can cook, I can be good… I don’t dare to run away anymore, please don’t hit me…”
My heart suddenly tightened.
I lay back on the bed, pulled An Yao into my arms, lowered my head and kissed his red and swollen eyelids softly.
“It’s a dream, far away, just a nightmare…” I stroked his back and patted him, “I’m here, Qingyan is here. No one can hurt you… Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid.”
I softly comforted him one after another until the tight body of the person in my arms gradually relaxed and his breathing became longer again.
A dreamless night.
I thought An Yao needed some time to calm down, but when he woke up this morning, he took the initiative to mention it.
“Qingyan,” his voice was very soft, “let’s go to the police station.”
I was very surprised, “Yaoyao, do you want another two days? There is still a lot of time, so there is no rush.”
He shook his head, “There are some things you should understand.”
We went to the police station together.
Following the tips from the police, we filled out the registration form in accordance with the procedures, but did not take back the body. Instead, we handed it over to the public security organs for follow-up processing. At the same time, An Yao also signed a series of relevant documents confirming the relinquishment of inherited property.
“Li Guoqiang has already gambled like this, how can he still have any property?” Su Mo said with a smile, “The only thing he can inherit is gambling debts, which is really unlucky.”
I nodded, agreeing with his statement.
It was just noon when I came out after finishing everything. The sun hangs high in the sky, and the sunlight pours down without any obstruction, making it so bright that people can’t open their eyes.
Anyao narrowed his eyes subconsciously and raised his hand to cover his forehead.I held his slightly cold hand and walked together into the brilliant, almost unreal light.
Instead of going to the clinic, we went to the canteen and bought two ice cream cones, and sat side by side on a bench by the roadside to eat them slowly.
“Qingyan,” An Yao whispered, “…is this the end?”
I took him and gently brought him into my arms, “It’s all over.”
“We will all have good days in the future.”
An Yao didn’t speak, just raised his head and looked at the sky.The midday sun was bright and hot, falling on his face through the whirling leaves.
He was silent for a long time, so long that the ice cream in his hand had faint traces of melting.Maybe he was thinking about his life in the past twenty-two years, maybe he was thinking about the meaning of his life, maybe he was thinking about his future.
He looked like this for a long, long time, so long that I thought he would say something, but he just slightly raised his eyes and responded with a small sound.
