An Yao’S Observation Diary Chapter 25
byMonday, September 15th Cloudy
Two days ago I bought a new mobile phone for Anyao.
He is at the age where he loves to play, and it is really not good for him to always use the old mobile phone that I had eliminated. What’s more, the phone is already a few years old, runs slowly, and the next software often freezes. So I searched around on the Internet, asked the girls in the clinic for their opinions, and finally carefully selected a suitable new mobile phone for him.
“Qing, Qingyan,” An Yao asked in a low voice, “Is this… will it be too expensive?”
“It’s not expensive.” I rubbed his head. “Mobile phones are now priced at this price.”
“It turns out that mobile phone can also be used.” He said softly, “I don’t like to surf the Internet, and I don’t usually use my mobile phone…”
“No,” I pinched his face and skillfully kneaded An Yao into a dumb plush ball with my hands, “Yao Yao must use the best.”
“Hurry up and promise!” I threatened, pretending to be fierce, “or I will eat you!”
An Yao looked like he was still hesitating, but I held her face and lightly bit her cheek flesh.
“Qingyan——” He laughed, “Why are you so shameless?”
“Are you scared?” I stretched out my hand to pinch Anyao, “If you don’t agree, I will use special means!”
During this period of time, he was raised to the point where he finally gained some flesh on his body, and he was no longer as thin and heart-wrenching as before. Now it’s soft to touch here and soft to pinch there. I just can’t put it down.
The funny thing is that An Yao is actually ticklish, and will shrink back and laugh non-stop at the slightest touch.
“Qingyan… Qingyan!” He smiled and shrank into my arms, dodging while trying to grab my rebellious hand, “I promise, I promise!”
“Yaoyao is so good,” I kissed the tearful eyes of the person in my arms, “Let’s play with it, and ask me if you know anything.”
Anyao nodded and responded softly into the crook of my neck.
Although An Yao refused repeatedly before, she was extremely happy the moment she got the new phone.I can often see him checking things on his mobile phone, or hurriedly playing with ingredients while following the video.Sometimes when I pass by secretly, I can still see An Yao shaking the braid on the back of her head and taking photos of the potted plants on the balcony intently.
But more often than not, he would quietly lift up his phone while I wasn’t paying attention. When I noticed, he quickly put away his phone, blinking his eyelashes quickly, with a cute and guilty look.
“Yaoyuan?” I asked deliberately, “What are you taking pictures of?”
An Yao seemed to struggle for a while, then silently raised the phone and said, “You.”
He honestly opened the photo album and saw that there were many more photos in the originally empty album: detailed screenshots of recipes, leaves stretching in the sun, but the most pictures were of me – me sleeping, me busy, me smiling at him… There were even several blurry photos, the figures were blurred, and it took a lot of effort to identify them before they could barely recognize that it was me.
I kissed the top of An Yao’s hair, “Why don’t you delete this one?”
“I don’t want to delete it…” He whispered, “That’s your photo.”
“It’s all a waste of time,” I said.
“Then I won’t delete it.” An Yao said, “I won’t delete it.”
I couldn’t help laughing, “Then why don’t you take pictures of yourself? You are obviously so good-looking.”
An Yao shook his head, “Qingyan is the good-looking one.”
“You’re the one who looks good.”
“You look good.”
“You look better.”
The two of us started to argue for no reason.Although they are both adults, they argue childishly like children, stubbornly believing that the other person is the prettiest one.
As they were talking, I don’t know who burst out laughing first, and who quietly approached each other at the moment of looking at each other. The bickering words naturally lost their continuation and quickly melted between the lips and teeth that fit together. The tongues and tongues are entangled, tender and lingering, and the breaths merge into one at this moment, sticky and charming.
We fell into a ball on the sofa and kissed each other for a long time before we stopped. An Yao rested his forehead on my shoulder and took small breaths to calm down his breathing, while I hugged him tightly and gently stroked his back to calm his breathing.
“Yuanyuan,” I said with a smile, “How about we take a group photo?”
An Yao didn’t say anything, just smiled.
But we each have a few more group photos in our mobile phones, smiling and holding each other, buried in the vast sea of solo photos of each other.
Today is Monday. There are not many patients in the clinic. An Yao leaned lazily on my shoulder, watching me write the prescription, and quietly raised her phone to take pictures of something.Suddenly, the phone in his hand vibrated violently, causing him to tremble all over and drop the phone.
I quickly picked it up with quick eyesight and quick hands to prevent the newly purchased mobile phone from being bumped.
“Come on, Yaoyao.” I handed him the phone and found the caller ID on the phone screen, with a line of unfamiliar phone numbers underneath.
“Is there a phone number?” An Yao glanced at it, “Who is it?”
“Don’t you recognize it?” I said, “That’s probably a harassing phone call.”
Anyao nodded and hung up the phone. But within a few seconds, the bell rang again.
“It’s still the same number.” An Yao said.
He held the phone as if it were a hot potato.I rubbed his head and said, “Take it. It’s okay, I’m here.”
“If you want to transfer money, we can just hang up.” I said, “Don’t worry.”
An Yao obeyed and turned on the speakerphone.
Almost the moment the call was connected, a serious male voice came from the receiver, “Are you Mr. An Yao?”
He reported to the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the local Public Security Bureau, “Now I need to inform you of important matters and ask for your assistance. Is it convenient for you to call now?”
An Yao’s expression froze for a moment, and she turned to look at me blankly.I took his hand and squeezed it gently, then took the phone, “Excuse me, what’s the matter?”
The other party’s voice paused, “I regret to inform you that after our investigation and verification, Li Guoqiang has been confirmed to have passed away due to an accident. The specific situation requires you…”
This man seemed to have said something else, but I couldn’t hear it clearly. All I could see was An Yao’s rapidly pale face. His lips seemed to move, but no sound came out.
I hugged him tightly, circled the person in my arms and patted his back, and quickly wrote down his address and police number.
“Excuse me.” I said and hung up the phone.
There was sudden silence in the consulting room.An Yao lowered his eyes, his long eyelashes casting shadows on his face, and his whole figure was like a porcelain doll that suddenly lost its temperature.
I hugged him and lifted him up, “Yaoyao, don’t panic. Maybe it’s a scam.”
An Yao just buried his face in my arms and said nothing.
After handling the last patient, I immediately took An Yao home.I first asked An Yao to sit on the sofa in the living room, then quickly walked to the balcony and dialed Su Mo’s phone silently.
The bell rang twice, and then a familiar voice came, “I was just looking for you.”
My heart tightened, “Is it true?”
“Yes.” Su Mo paused, “He is indeed dead.”
“What happened last night was only discovered this morning,” he said. “He got very drunk after losing money in gambling. He turned around and fought with the telephone pole without knowing what he was thinking. Then he lost his footing and fell into the drainage ditch and drowned. The surveillance and witnesses matched, so the case was closed directly without an autopsy.”
I suddenly felt a strong sense of absurdity welling up in my heart.
Did he just die like that?To simply die?So sudden, so simple… isn’t it often said that evil people will be punished? Why did such a demon who wantonly ruined two people’s lives die like this? Why could he leave so easily while An Yao had to spend the rest of his life in his shadow?
I feel like vomiting.
“Anyway, remember to deal with the follow-up within ten working days.” Su Mo’s voice sounded, “Don’t forget to consult a lawyer to see if you can get more benefits for your family.”
I responded blankly, not knowing how I ended up hanging up the phone.
I was standing on the balcony. The sky outside the window had completely darkened. The street lights were gradually lighting up, dotting the streets. A sudden gust of wind blew in my face, causing a dense chill in my limbs.
I turned around and saw An Yao sinking into the sofa in the living room, his whole body shrouded in warm yellow light, looking like a plush ball.
I thought of An Yao’s always cautious appearance, of his nightmares that always echoed at night, and of his smile and his tears.
An Yao, Yao Yao.
He sat quietly for a while, as if he noticed that my eyes had turned away, “…Qingyan, what’s wrong?”
I looked at him, not knowing what to say.
