    # Chapter 9: The Date

“Bro, you’re really good at dating!”

Ji Shen had only meant it as a shocked retort, but Shen Jixun actually paused to seriously consider his words before replying, “Hmm, I suppose I am.”

“Bro, are you serious?” Ji Shen sighed, rubbing his forehead.

Shen Jixun put the handkerchief back into his pocket, then naturally looped his arm through Ji Shen’s. “Let’s go. It’s the weekend, and we finally have a break. Let’s go on a date.”

“My dear,” Shen Jixun smiled at him.

    D-d-d-d-date!

For Ji Shen, who had been single since birth, this word was like a lit fuse on a bomb. His mind exploded like fireworks, leaving him blank. His legs seemed to disobey him, and he started walking with the same-side arm and leg moving together again.

Shen Jixun wasn’t sure what he had said this time to trigger Ji Shen, so he simply said, “If you can’t walk properly, then donate your legs to someone who needs them, my dear.”

Honestly, Ji Shen felt that Shen Jixun definitely had a bit of a twisted sense of humor, saying such cruel things in a gentle tone and with an intimate endearment.

It was like a wooden club, knocking Ji Shen’s rationality back into place.

The two left the cinema together.

“Bro… what should we do next?” Ji Shen had no dating experience, so he could only rely on Shen Jixun at a time like this.

Shen Jixun stopped in his tracks, standing still.

Ji Shen was confused and stopped as well. “Bro? Where are we going?”

In truth, Shen Jixun didn’t have much dating experience either. It wasn’t easy for him to come up with a perfect date plan on the fly.

“Eat.” After a long pause, Shen Jixun chose the essential dating activity.

Ji Shen glanced at his watch. It was indeed the perfect time for a meal. “Okay, where should we eat?!”

Shen Jixun took out his phone and checked the map. There was a Western restaurant nearby with decent reviews. “Let’s go for Western food.”

“Great!” Ji Shen followed Shen Jixun into the restaurant.

The Western restaurant had an elegant decor, simple and quiet, without excessive, flashy decorations. They sat in a VIP Room by the window, which overlooked a quiet pet park where small dogs were playing in the sandpit.

Ji Shen pressed his face close to the window, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Shen Jixun turned his head to look, then asked expressionlessly, “Do you want to join them?”

Ji Shen quickly shook his head. “That’s a pet park. We don’t have a pet.”

Shen Jixun chuckled. About half a minute later, Ji Shen suddenly whipped his head back, realizing something. “Bro, you just insulted me again.”

“What did I insult you with?” A faint, light smile hung on Shen Jixun’s lips.

Ji Shen: “You called me a little dog.”

    Shen Jixun: “Oh—”

    “That was my intention.”

He smiled with curved lips, and Ji Shen lost his temper again. He blamed himself for being a damned sucker for good looks. No matter how angry he was at Shen Jixun, seeing that face instantly defused most of his anger. Seeing Shen Jixun smile, Ji Shen couldn’t stay angry at all.

Ji Shen lowered his head. “Bro, you can’t always talk to me like that.”

Shen Jixun said, “Oh,” not sounding like he’d taken it to heart, which was normal.

The steak and pasta were served quickly.

Ji Shen mimicked Shen Jixun’s movements, using a knife and fork to cut his steak. However, this was not only his first time eating steak but also his first time in such an expensive Western restaurant, so it was normal that he wasn’t used to the cutlery.

Shen Jixun glanced at him, then pushed his own cut steak toward him. “Eat this one.”

    Ji Shen was confused. “Why?”

Shen Jixun was amused to the point of speechless. “This steak looks too ugly. Is that reason enough?”

Seeing that he was getting annoyed again, Ji Shen immediately reflected on himself. Finally, he blinked and asked cautiously, “Bro, did you see that I couldn’t cut the steak, so you gave me the one you already cut?”

Shen Jixun didn’t bother to answer, taking the steak in front of Ji Shen and continuing to cut it.

Suddenly, Ji Shen looked at him with admiration. His eyes shone as he said, “Bro, you’re really good at dating!”

Shen Jixun was completely speechless. He was now deeply worried about Ji Shen’s emotional and intellectual quotient. He didn’t call Ji Shen stupid anymore, instead silently cursing him as a “damn straight man.”

After dinner, the two drove home.

On the way, Ji Shen noticed a black car following them. It only turned off to another road once they reached the villa area.

    “Bro, that car left.”

    Shen Jixun said he knew.

“Bro, why does your dad have people following us?” Ji Shen knew his father couldn’t accept their relationship, but even if it was fake, surely Shen Cong didn’t need to interfere?

Shen Jixun had no intention of hiding it. After parking the car, he got out. Once Ji Shen caught up, he explained, “He wants to find leverage against me to report me to the board of directors. Right now, in the Shen Group, he and I have equal standing. Once the board finds out that my relationship is a deception, the trust between us will be compromised, and he will have more opportunities to suppress me in the future.”

Since Shen Jixun arrived here from Shenzhen.

His goal was to make Shen Cong lose everything he currently possessed. He wanted Shen Cong and that woman to spend the rest of their lives atoning for his mother.

“Isn’t he your father…” Ji Shen was confused.

Shen Jixun took off his jacket and hung it on the coat rack in the entryway. He replied, “Just because I call him ‘Father,’ does that mean he deserves to be my father?”

“Just like you. You call your father ‘Father,’ but does he truly deserve to be one?”

Ji Shen looked at him with a sense of unspoken empathy. “Bro, I won’t mess up. I will cooperate with you until you achieve your goal.”

Seeing Ji Shen being so sensible, Shen Jixun’s mood improved. He replied, “I will also help you get rid of that bastard father of yours.”

“Thank you, Bro.” Ji Shen gave him a grateful smile, then asked curiously, “He wants to catch you out, but what about you? What methods do you have to defeat him?”

Shen Jixun was amused by his question. He chuckled and countered, “Do you think this is a TV drama? Who am I supposed to defeat?”

“He has an illegitimate son outside. My people are currently investigating that illegitimate son…” He paused, wondering why he was telling Ji Shen this. He then said, “In any case, these things have nothing to do with you. Just play your role well.”

    Ji Shen: “Oh… alright.”

“He always wanted me to Marry into the Wife’s Family so I would be far away from him, and he would be much safer,” Shen Jixun said calmly. “The fact that I’m with you has frustrated him greatly. Even if we play our roles perfectly, it doesn’t mean he won’t use other means, such as…”

Ji Shen pressed, “Such as what?”

Shen Jixun: “Such as throwing a card at you, like in the TV dramas you watch, and telling you to take the money and leave his son.”

    Ji Shen: …

So, art really does imitate life?

“You had better stick to your principles. If you are easily tempted by those things, I will kill you.” Shen Jixun looked at him, his eyes filled with coldness.

A chill ran down Ji Shen’s spine. There it was again. Threatening people with talk of fighting and killing at the drop of a hat—this was the real Shen Jixun.

He had almost been fooled by Shen Jixun’s recent gentleness and patience.

“Understood, Employer. I have professional ethics,” Ji Shen patted his chest, guaranteeing, “Even if he gives me a hundred million, I won’t waver.”

Shen Jixun snorted and walked up the stairs.

“Also, the next date is on Wednesday. Be prepared,” the person turning the corner of the staircase suddenly turned back and said.
