    Chapter 14: Deep Kiss

“Come here and kiss me again.”

The moment Ji Shen’s words fell, he clearly saw the shock and awkwardness in Dai Yingying’s eyes. She uncomfortably turned her face away and pretended to be calm:

“What are you talking about, child? Jixun is my only child. Although he’s not my biological son, he’s better than one. I love him too much to hate him. Why would I hate him?”

Ji Shen pursed his lips and did not reply.

The poor acting and lies made Ji Shen lose even the desire to expose her.

When they reached a luxury car, Dai Yingying opened the trunk and took out a box of red wine. Ji Shen stepped forward and took it.

Only then did Dai Yingying say, “Ji Shen, after Jixun got together with you, he helped you pay off a lot of your father’s debts, right?”

Ji Shen turned to look at her. Shen Jixun had said these things couldn’t be hidden from them, and he should answer truthfully. “Yes, so I am very grateful to Brother.”

Dai Yingying softened her tone: “So that’s how it is.”

The two slowly walked back the way they came. Dai Yingying continued, “Do you know? Jixun is a very hardworking child. His father and I have seen the effort he has put into the group over the years.”

“I don’t know if he told you, but we introduced him to many people. The worst among them were the daughters of listed company owners.” Dai Yingying observed Ji Shen’s expression as she spoke.

“Since the child is working so hard, shouldn’t we, as parents, pave the way for his future? But why you? Do you know how much pressure he faced from family elders for being with you?”

“Being with Jixun only brings him trouble, it serves no purpose.”

    Ji Shen understood.

Dai Yingying was trying to persuade him to leave Shen Jixun on his own terms, just in a different way.

As long as the two of them publicly announced their breakup, they would force Shen Jixun into a marriage alliance with someone else through other strong-arm tactics.

    “Mhm,” Ji Shen responded flatly.

Since he and Shen Jixun were not truly in a relationship, if his existence was a big trouble for Shen Jixun, Shen Jixun wouldn’t have sought him out in the first place.

“Did you not understand what I meant?”

Ji Shen lowered his eyes, his expression very calm: “Do you dare say these words in front of Brother?”

Dai Yingying was indeed choked up. She could no longer force a benevolent smile onto her face. “I don’t mean anything else. Of course, I hope you two will get better and better in the future. It’s just that our Jixun is too exhausted.”

Seeing that Ji Shen didn’t respond, Dai Yingying added:

“Alright, alright, let’s not talk about this. When you have time, let us meet your parents, too? I know about your mother, she’s in the hospital, right? What about your father? He seems to be looking for you.”

Ji Shen clenched his fists. He stopped and looked at Dai Yingying, asking, “What do you mean?”

“I don’t mean anything.” Dai Yingying covered her mouth and smiled, her eyes curved, revealing a shrewd glint. Then she feigned surprise and asked, “You don’t know that your father has been looking for you?”

Ji Shen took half a step forward.

He was tall and strong, and when his face was expressionless, he looked a little fierce, which inexplicably made Dai Yingying feel intimidated.

“A’Ji.” Behind him, a cool voice rolled over, carrying a faint sense of comfort. Shen Jixun had arrived without him noticing.

The expression on Ji Shen’s face immediately returned to normal. He turned and moved closer to Shen Jixun. “Brother, why did you come out?”

“I didn’t see you two return for a long time, so I thought something might have happened.” Shen Jixun took his hand and glanced at Dai Yingying, his eyes cold.

Dai Yingying was startled and didn’t utter a single word.

Everyone had their own agenda during this dinner. Shen Jixun left with Ji Shen after only eating a few bites.

    In the car.

Ji Shen recounted everything that happened when he was alone with Dai Yingying to Shen Jixun.

For certain reasons, Shen Jixun had transferred Ji Shen’s mother to another large hospital, where she was specially cared for by his people. It was normal for Ji Sheng not to find them.

    But this was only temporary.

If Shen Cong and the others intervened, Ji Sheng would eventually find the mother and son.

“Mhm, I know,” Shen Jixun said slowly.

Ji Shen looked very worried: “Brother, will they do bad things to Mom?”

Shen Jixun raised his hand and stroked his head, his tone gentle: “Didn’t I tell you? It’s a society governed by law now. Put away those messy speculations of yours.”

“Oh…” Ji Shen buried his head, gripping his knees with both hands, still looking worried.

Shen Jixun withdrew his hand, looked at Assistant Li, who was driving, and asked, “How is the investigation going?”

Assistant Li replied, “They must have noticed we are investigating. Dai Yingying has been staying at home recently, and apart from work and social engagements, Shen Cong hasn’t gone anywhere else.”

Shen Jixun seemed to have anticipated this result, his expression was not surprised, he only said, “That means our direction is correct, right?”

    “Yes.”

Shen Jixun: “Then continue to stake them out. They will show their weakness eventually.”

    “Understood.”

The mention of Dai Yingying suddenly reminded Ji Shen of something else.

He gently tugged at Shen Jixun’s sleeve and said, “Brother, I think I’ve seen your stepmother before.”

Shen Jixun raised an eyebrow and looked at him, asking, “When?”

“I ran into her once half a year ago when I was working at the Xinzhu Hotel,” Ji Shen recalled. “At the time, one of our cleaning aunties accidentally spilled water on her shoe, and she got very angry. Even the manager went to apologize personally.”

It was because of this incident that Ji Shen had such a deep impression of her.

“Did you only see her once?” Shen Jixun asked again.

Ji Shen nodded: “Because a few days after that incident, all of us staff members were dismissed for various reasons.”

“But we also received a good amount of compensation at the time, so the matter didn’t escalate.”

Shen Jixun nodded thoughtfully. “I see.”

Since it was just a very ordinary daily incident, Ji Shen didn’t think he could help Shen Jixun with anything, so he put the matter out of his mind after speaking.

“My people are watching your mother, you don’t need to worry about her, but you need to be more careful when you go out,” Shen Jixun suddenly said to Ji Shen after taking a phone call in the car.

Ji Shen nodded: “Okay, I’ll be fine.”

    After this day.

Shen Jixun became busier than before.

He would leave in the morning and always return around midnight, sometimes coming back from a drinking engagement, smelling strongly of alcohol.

Ji Shen was the one who took care of him entirely.

“Brother, let me change your shoes.” Ji Shen helped him to the sofa and sat him down, then knelt by Shen Jixun’s feet, held his ankle, and helped him take off his shoes.

Shen Jixun looked down at the top of his head.

He had been returning at this time almost every day this week.

The sofa held the warmth left by Ji Shen sitting there for a long time. It was no longer like the past when he returned home and the house was empty.

    “Ji Shen,” he called.

Ji Shen had just finished putting on his slippers. He quickly looked up and responded, “What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable? I’ll go pour you some warm water.”

    Shen Jixun didn’t speak.

He watched Ji Shen’s back gradually blur in the light and shadow, but it quickly became clear again. Ji Shen walked over and sat beside him, placing the water in his hand.

Shen Jixun picked up the cup and took a few sips.

Ji Shen asked, “Does Brother want some hangover soup?”

“No need.” Shen Jixun handed the water cup to Ji Shen, who took it and placed it on the coffee table.

“You’ve been very busy these days,” Ji Shen said.

Shen Jixun nodded: “The company has been quite busy recently.”

“But today, things are mostly handled…”

Ji Shen looked at him with admiration. He originally thought Ji Shen was going to say something congratulatory, but instead, Ji Shen said, “It must be very tiring, right?”

Shen Jixun’s eyelashes trembled. He turned his head to look at Ji Shen, who continued, “Thank you for your hard work, Brother.”

Shen Jixun chuckled and beckoned to him, “Bring your head closer.”

Ji Shen quickly leaned in, looking confused: “What is it…”

Shen Jixun suddenly reached out and cupped his face. Then, his lips felt a coolness as a soft touch pressed against them.

It was the exact same feeling as that day.

He smelled the faint clean scent and alcohol that belonged to Shen Jixun.

Ji Shen only froze for a few seconds before quickly reacting. He clasped the back of Shen Jixun’s head, his long hair threading through his fingers and wrapping around his wrist.

Ji Shen parted his lips and nibbled on Shen Jixun’s lower lip, then tried to use his tongue to push open his tightly closed teeth.

Shen Jixun’s pupils trembled violently, as if he hadn’t expected Ji Shen to make such a move.

He abruptly pushed Ji Shen away, frowning, his expression angry, but Ji Shen looked at him blankly, “Brother?”

Compared to that time, Ji Shen was still blushing intensely now, but he wouldn’t faint from being too excited anymore.

“Who taught you that?!” Shen Jixun demanded angrily.

Only a little over a week had passed since their last kiss. Shen Jixun didn’t believe Ji Shen could learn how to kiss on his own in just a few days.

Ji Shen hurriedly waved his hands in explanation: “I, I looked up video tutorials!”

“Really! Here are the viewing records.” He pulled out his phone and opened his favorites in the video app. “Brother, I didn’t cheat.”

Shen Jixun glanced at his phone screen, then shifted his gaze to Ji Shen’s face. He could tell when Ji Shen was lying, so it seemed Ji Shen really did learn it by watching videos.

He still frowned and asked, “Why did you learn this?”

“I didn’t perform well last time, did I? I thought I should perform well in front of you.” Ji Shen felt embarrassed as he spoke. He deeply buried his head, resting his hands on his knees, awkwardly tugging at his pants.

Seeing his crimson ears, Shen Jixun knew he had overthought things.

He rubbed his brow with his hand and slowly said, “Don’t take matters into your own hands if I haven’t asked you to do something.”

“Okay…” Ji Shen’s non-existent little dog ears slowly drooped.

He thought he could please his employer.

It turned out he had acted on his own.

Shen Jixun felt his disappointed gaze. He knew what expression Ji Shen had without even looking. He sighed and said, “As for the kiss, you did quite well.”

“Really?” Ji Shen’s eyes immediately lit up with excitement. “Was it great?”

Shen Jixun didn’t give him a chance to push his luck. He didn’t answer and stood up, walking toward the stairs and slowly ascending.

Ji Shen watched his retreating figure.

He remained silent for a long time.

Shen Jixun, who had reached the corner of the stairs, suddenly stopped. He looked back at Ji Shen, hooked his index finger at him, and said, “Come here and kiss me again.”
