    Chapter 8

During the final inspection phase, everyone narrowly avoided spending the first night under the open sky.

During the break, Ji Chenshi dragged Chu Yue and Xia Zhou along to take photos of him. He was extremely satisfied with the tags assigned to him, such as All-rounder ACE, Visual Center, and Creative Genius.

After a brief rest, the production crew actually arranged for lunch. Looking at the long table laden with food and the row of high-definition hovering cameras opposite them, everyone found it somewhat hard to believe.

No, are we just going to start eating? Aren’t there any missions or conspiracies? Ji Chenshi tapped a face-down plate curiously, his face full of suspicion.

There are no conspiracies. Everyone, please take your seats. The production crew is treating you to the first meal. Eat well!

Following the director’s invitation, everyone looked for a place to sit.

Ling Le deliberately slowed his pace. Only after Xia Zhou confirmed his seat did he suddenly rush over, nearly colliding with Ji Chenshi, who was also scouting for a spot.

Hey, why are you in such a hurry to squeeze in here? Did you smell that the food on this side is better? Then I want to sit on the left too!

Seeing Ji Chenshi plop down next to Xia Zhou, Ling Le quickly took the empty seat on Xia Zhou’s other side.

Once everyone was seated, Ling Le glanced at Brother Duan on his left. He realized that except for the pair of Ji Chenshi and Duan Xianzhi, all the other partners were sitting together.

    Ling Le: Hesitant to speak.jpg

Their years of friendship allowed Duan Xianzhi to understand Ling Le’s expression at a glance. He smiled disdainfully. What, do I need to feed you during dinner? I’m already full just from looking at you every day.

The sharp-eyed Ling Le saw Han Wenxuan picking up food for Chu Yue on the other side. He immediately followed suit, secretly placing a chicken wing into Xia Zhou’s bowl, and then gave Duan Xianzhi a smug look.

See, this is what taking care of someone looks like~

Heh, why don’t you take a look at my partner? I’d be relieved if he didn’t snatch food from other people’s bowls. Do I even need to step in? Unwilling to deal with this lovesick kid, Duan Xianzhi lowered his head and began to eat.

On the other side, Xia Zhou stared blankly at the chicken wing that had suddenly appeared in his bowl. He looked up at the hovering camera in front of him and, as if realizing something, picked up a piece of sweet and sour rib and placed it in Ling Le’s bowl.

    Hehe… Ugh!

Seeing Xia Zhou’s action, a delighted Ling Le didn’t even look at what was in the bowl before shoving it into his mouth.

    What’s wrong?

Seeing Ling Le squinting with his features scrunched together, Xia Zhou immediately asked with concern.

    It’s… too sour.

Ling Le pointed tremulously at the sweet and sour ribs, his face full of accusation.

Haha, do you want to come over here and eat? The steamed crab legs on this side should be more to your taste… Seeing Ling Le’s furrowed brows, Shen Xuan, at the other end of the table, pointed at the seafood in front of him with amusement.

It was common knowledge that the higher a Sentinel’s grade, the more acute and developed their five senses were. Although Ling Le had undergone training to shield his senses, there were still significant individual differences regarding taste.

Tsk, you can’t even handle sweet and sour ribs? Go sit at the kids’ table! Ji Chenshi, who didn’t know much about Sentinels, scooped a piece of rib into his own bowl and teased him mercilessly.

The ribs started it, okay! I just can’t handle things that are too sour or too sweet… Ling Le glanced at the dishes at the other end of the table, then looked longingly at Xia Zhou, his face full of conflict.

Should I… help you move your chair over there? Seeing Ling Le staring at him piteously, Xia Zhou thought for a moment and asked.

    Pfft.

Turning his head to suppress a laugh, Duan Xianzhi, who had overheard the conversation, clenched his jaw, not wanting to make it too obvious.

However, as a major source of memes, Duan Xianzhi’s status in the variety show world was earned through genuine skill. This scene was also fully recorded by the nearby camera.

Ling Le, feeling mocked, shot him a glare before turning back to Xia Zhou, saying sheepishly, No, no need. I can just eat here.

Take these. While they were still back-and-forth, the man of few words, Pei Yifan, directly handed over two plates of light dishes.

Thank you! Taking the plates, Xia Zhou placed the food in front of Ling Le, while silently noting down the flavors Ling Le disliked.

While enjoying the food, the restless group began to cozy up to the director’s team.

Director, what are we doing after lunch?

    You rest after lunch.

So kind? Then how are the rooms arranged?

You’ll find out about the rooms in the afternoon.

    I knew it!

At this point in the conversation, Ji Chenshi, who had remained skeptical, immediately jumped up.

See, the fact that he finished calculating the scores after this morning’s game but didn’t let us draw for rooms right away already proves there’s a problem! Speaking of his judgment, Ji Chenshi was filled with righteous indignation. However, when mentioning the scores, his gaze shifted to Duan Xianzhi.

Sigh, what a pity. Some people got first place, but they still don’t know if they’ll get to live in a nice house.

If I can’t live in one, can you? Don’t forget what was said at the beginning: we share the glory and the loss… Duan Xianzhi responded to Ji Chenshi’s childish provocation with ease.

Hmph, what’s there to fear? I can just make do with Xia-Xia!

While livening up the atmosphere, Ji Chenshi, who was very sensitive to emotions, noticed Xia Zhou’s slight silence when facing the camera and his posture of almost burying himself in his bowl out of discomfort. So, he reached out and put an arm around him.

    Ling Le: !!!

Ling Le didn’t know whether to be shocked by Ji Chenshi’s action first or to take issue with the content of the conversation. He became anxious for a moment and accidentally blurted out his thoughts.

Wait, shouldn’t you be in a room with me… Meeting Xia Zhou’s gaze, Ling Le’s originally confident voice grew smaller and smaller.

Should I… be in a room with you?

His slight unease was dispersed by Ji Chenshi’s shaking arm. Xia Zhou raised his head blankly and asked back uncertainly.

Feeling everyone’s gaze, Ling Le realized what he had said and turned his face away in frustration. No, you shouldn’t… You guys… rest well.

    Okay.

Xia Zhou opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but nothing seemed quite right. So he gave a soft response, though his eyes drifted over from time to time, unashamedly full of concern.

Observing him quietly like this, Xia Zhou saw that the tips of Ling Le’s ears were getting redder and redder. Driven by some inexplicable impulse, he reached out and gently patted the other’s arm.

Feeling Xia Zhou’s concern, Ling Le’s restless heart miraculously calmed down.

He let out a slow breath. Having regained his composure, Ling Le put on a stern face and first properly removed Ji Chenshi’s arm from Xia Zhou’s shoulders. Then, he placed another serving of food into Xia Zhou’s bowl.

    Eat!

His expression as he spoke was incredibly serious.

Sensing that Ling Le had recovered, Xia Zhou nodded obediently and continued his grand mission of eating.

Nearby, Ji Chenshi and Duan Xianzhi, who hadn’t missed their little interactions, exchanged a look.

Ji Chenshi: It’s good to be young. teasing.jpg

Duan Xianzhi: Watching others fall in love is more interesting. sighing.jpg

After lunch, there was a short break. Since rooms hadn’t been assigned yet, everyone went their separate ways. Some chose the wicker hanging chairs on the terrace, some sprawled out on the living room sofas, and those who weren’t sleepy at all leisurely browsed their terminals by the bar.

Time ticked by, and it was soon 2:30 PM.

After a quick makeup touch-up, the afternoon recording began.

After a short nap, Ji Chenshi, with his battery back at 100%, made a stylish entrance. Come on, let me see what other tricks you have! I’m putting it out there today: I’m definitely staying in that luxury suite with the king-sized bed! Nothing can stump me, the variety show genius Ji Chenshi!

Oh, really? But we’re testing cooking skills today.

Flipping through his cue cards, Luo Yan, who was on good terms with Ji Chenshi, teased him.

I remember your cooking… could be described as having no skill at all.

The reality check came that quickly.

Are you serious? Looking at Luo Yan’s casual attitude, Ji Chenshi refused to believe it.

Of course! Come on, production crew, bring out the props! With a graceful wave of his hand, Luo Yan watched as the staff filed in with the prepared props. He then began the introduction process.

After enjoying a sumptuous lunch, I wonder if any sharp-eyed guests noticed the little easter egg our production crew left behind? Yes! As a famous tourist city on Sky Sea Planet, beneath the vast and boundless sea, there are various rich biological resources hidden here. The theme of this episode is to let the guests further explore the local culinary specialties and promote the Seafood Festival to the entire universe!

Today’s cooking competition is a small test. It not only relates to your housing for tonight but might even affect tomorrow night’s sales. Oh, I can’t reveal any more than that. The only thing I can tell everyone is: stay sharp! Listen carefully as I announce the rules for the next game!

Game: Lucky Kitchen. There will be six challenge games set up in the room: Elite Shooter, Pictionary, Compatibility Test, Slow and Steady, Memory Challenge, and Guess the Picture. Guests can form their own teams to participate in the challenges. Each successful challenge earns one point. Points can be exchanged for draws or spins on the big wheel. If you prepare no fewer than three delicacies before the countdown ends, the challenge is considered a success.

After a successful challenge, you will receive a corresponding number of draws for room types based on the number of successfully completed dishes. If the challenge fails, we have prepared all the necessary outdoor gear for you~

Now, while the venue is being set up, you have 15 minutes for free discussion. Once the time is up, the exciting Lucky Kitchen will begin!

After listening to the long introduction, the guests fell into a brief silence.

Did you understand that? Looking at the oversized rule board and not yet catching the rhythm, Xia Zhou pulled on Ling Le’s sleeve and asked in a low voice.

Does it make a difference whether you understand or not? Either way, they’re dead set on making us sleep on the beach! Before Ling Le could open his mouth, Ji Chenshi snapped back from the side.
