    Chapter 13

Ling Le proved exactly how one sentence could slow down the pace without any warning.

In the living room, everyone who had already started moving suddenly froze. Chu Yue, who had stood up early to pack his luggage and move to a single room, slowed his pace. Ji Chenshi, who had already rushed to the stairs, stopped pretending entirely; he spun around and circled to the side of the sofa, looking like he was ready for battle as he watched the two people sitting there.

“Yeah, I’ll come check on you after I finish washing up. Today’s mental combing was a bit too rushed, so I’ll take a look tonight…” Xia Zhou was deep in thought, wondering if the production crew had any basic physiotherapy equipment available. He didn’t notice that because of his words, the stagnant air around them had begun to flow again.

    “Tsk.”

How could he agree so quickly?

Secretly listening to their conversation, the more Chu Yue thought about it, the more he felt frustrated by Xia Zhou’s lack of resolve. He even considered turning back to argue the point with him.

“Alright, stop meddling.” Han Wenxuan didn’t miss a single one of Chu Yue’s micro-expressions. He sighed silently and placed a hand on the small of Chu Yue’s back, ushering him toward the stairs.

Noticing these small movements, Ji Chenshi’s eyes darted around as a new idea seemed to take root.

“What are you looking at? Aren’t you going upstairs to pack?” Before his idea could land, Ji Chenshi met Duan Xianzhi’s gaze.

Leaning lazily against the bar counter with his arms crossed, Duan Xianzhi had an expression that said he was watching him to see exactly what he was planning. “What do you think?”

“I think a single room is the perfect place for a party!” With too many ideas swirling in his head, Ji Chenshi blurted out the first one he grabbed.

“Put away your ‘divine powers,’ Mr. Top Star Ji. After washing up, do you really think anyone will have the energy to deal with you?”

“Why wouldn’t they? I could drag Chu Yue out even if he was already under the covers. And Xia Zhou is a young man; there’s no way he goes to bed early…”

As the voices of Ji Chenshi and Duan Xianzhi grew fainter, Xia Zhou shifted his shoulders.

“Hmm? What’s wrong?” Leaning against Xia Zhou’s shoulder, Ling Le was completely unwilling to move.

“Everyone has gone back to their rooms. Do you want to stay in the living room for a while longer?”

Sensing Xia Zhou’s desire to return to his room, Ling Le pursed his lips and reluctantly compromised. “Fine, let’s go back then. But it’s a deal—you have to come find me once you’re ready!”

“Okay.” Meeting Ling Le’s serious gaze, Xia Zhou responded just as earnestly.

Forty minutes later, Xia Zhou knocked on Ling Le’s door.

“You’re here! Come in, quick! The stuff just arrived!” Hearing the knock, Ling Le rushed to open the door and happily led Xia Zhou inside.

“What stuff arrived?” Xia Zhou asked curiously, clutching the bag in his arms.

“Ta-da! You mentioned today that you wanted to check out the market, so I asked the staff to buy some delicious snacks from there. They’ve just been reheated, so eat them while they’re hot!” Ling Le shook his dripping hair. Carrying the scent of fresh water, he looked like he had just stepped out of the bathroom. It seemed he had been busy with all of this earlier.

“What’s wrong? Don’t want to eat? Or are you feeling unwell? Too tired?” Seeing Xia Zhou standing there dazed, Ling Le put down his towel and leaned in with concern.

“No…” Since entering society, Xia Zhou hadn’t felt such meticulous care for a long time. It was just a simple bit of small talk, yet someone had actually taken it to heart.

Xia Zhou felt a bit at a loss, only tightening his grip on the bag in his hands.

    In that case…

Fine. As a reward, even if he had to bet his entire professional career on it, he would make sure Ling Le promoted to S-grade smoothly. Turning his internal gratitude into motivation, Xia Zhou silently strengthened his resolve.

“Alright, go dry your hair quickly, or it’ll affect the treatment later.” Setting the bag down, Xia Zhou sat on the small sofa and began to enjoy the food happily.

Watching Xia Zhou start eating, Ling Le shook his head happily. While drying his hair, he kept trying to strike up a conversation.

“How is it? Is it good?”

“Which one do you think is the best?”

“You like these potatoes too? What a coincidence, I like them too…”

After drying his hair, Ling Le was like a happy puppy. He grabbed a small stool and sat down right next to Xia Zhou.

“Should I go get a chair from outside for you?” As a guest occupying the only small sofa in the room, Xia Zhou felt a bit of delayed realization.

“Huh? Why? No need, no need! This is perfect, it makes eating easier!”

    And it’s closer.

Of course, he could only say that in his head. To cover up his ulterior motives, Ling Le pretended to look through the snacks on the table.

As their conversation deepened, Xia Zhou vaguely felt that Ling Le seemed a bit strange tonight, though he couldn’t put his finger on exactly why. After thinking for a moment, he decided to ask directly.

“W-what is it?” Feeling Xia Zhou’s silent gaze, Ling Le’s eyes began to wander.

“Why do I feel like you’re… a bit strange tonight?” Seeing those shifting eyes, Xia Zhou’s tone unconsciously carried a hint of a smile.

“Am… am I? Is it that obvious?” Realizing he couldn’t hide it after all, Ling Le tilted his head in defeat, his tone becoming embarrassed.

“It’s just… I wanted to apologize to you…” After thinking it over, Ling Le decided to be brave. He looked up and met Xia Zhou’s eyes seriously.

“Apologize? For what?” Sensing Ling Le’s sincerity, Xia Zhou put down his skewer and unconsciously sat up straighter.

“Because of what happened at noon. I thought I could handle it, but I didn’t expect to cause so much trouble for everyone. I had to borrow clothes from Brother Duan, missed a segment of filming… and I was so rough with you…”

Mentioning the mental riot at noon, Ling Le’s voice became increasingly guilty.

Recalling his previous actions, Ling Le felt both guilty and shy. How could he not have controlled himself? He had pulled the man directly into his arms. And Xia Zhou’s waist was so thin—was he not eating properly? His wrists were the same…

    !!!

“Is your wrist okay?!” Remembering how violently he had dragged the man into the room, Ling Le jumped and asked immediately.

“It’s fine…” Startled by Ling Le’s sudden outburst, Xia Zhou finally caught up to his train of thought. “I’m not made of porcelain; I won’t get hurt that easily.”

To put Ling Le at ease, Xia Zhou raised his wrist and obediently moved his fingers, demonstrating that he was perfectly fine.

“Oh, that’s good then.” Seeing that Xia Zhou was unharmed, Ling Le felt relieved, but then he became dejected again.

“What is it now?” Xia Zhou asked, amused by Ling Le’s fluctuating emotions.

“I just feel so useless. I’m always causing trouble for everyone. We aren’t allowed to use money in the show, so I have no room to show what I can do…”

“But you really are the youngest guest here. Our life experience can’t compare to the older ones, so there are bound to be things we don’t consider. It’s not your fault.” Xia Zhou patted Ling Le’s arm soothingly, his tone gentle.

“Besides, you cooperated well, didn’t you? Even though it was a sudden situation, you controlled it quite well. There were no injuries or property damage. You cooperated immediately after waking up and resumed filming quickly. Am I wrong?”

“You’re right, but it still doesn’t feel right!” The logic in his head seemed to have knotted. Ling Le frowned, looking conflicted.

    “What’s not right?”

    “I should be the one…”

Raising his eyes to meet Xia Zhou’s, Ling Le went silent, unable to finish the second half of his sentence.

“Nothing. I want some quiet time.”

After holding it in for a long while, Ling Le sullenly squeezed out those words.

He couldn’t say it, and he couldn’t solve it. Ling Le could only choose to be angry with himself.

“Then… do you want to be alone for a bit?” Xia Zhou watched Ling Le sulking and teased him mischievously.

“No. You stay in the room. I’ll let Xiaobai stay with you. I’ll go to the door to have my quiet time.”

With that, Ling Le summoned Xiaobai and then moved his small stool to the door to sit and reflect on his mistakes facing the wall.

    “Woof!”

“Good evening, Xiaobai.” Xia Zhou was always infinitely tolerant toward this adorable “smiling angel.”

However, the presence of that resentful “mushroom” by the door was far too strong. While playing with the dog, Xia Zhou couldn’t resist secretly opening his terminal to snap a photo.

The rest of the process followed the routine: waiting for Ling Le to stop being upset, cleaning up the trash in the room, and then beginning to calibrate the relevant equipment.

Indeed, after coming to Ling Le’s room and seeing the treatment equipment in the corner, Xia Zhou realized the production crew had a specific purpose for arranging individual rooms tonight.

It was another night of sweet dreams.

Time reached the third day, which was also the final day of filming for this episode.

Today’s itinerary was relatively relaxed, mainly responding to the call of local cultural tourism. The crew arranged for everyone to visit the Marine Museum on Sky Sea Planet, where they received information regarding marine conservation.

After finishing the morning’s schedule, everyone boarded the bus to return to the villa.

“What’s the schedule for this afternoon? Do we all go home as soon as filming ends?” On the bus, Ling Le suddenly asked, having only just realized the time.

“That’s right. I’m flying out as soon as we finish tonight. I have an interview on Capital Planet tomorrow. By the way, are you on the same flight as me?” After reporting his schedule, Ji Chenshi asked the person next to him.

“Two hours later than you. I’m not in a hurry.” Duan Xianzhi opened his terminal and sent his recent itinerary to Ji Chenshi.

“Are we on the same flight?” Seeing the interaction between the two, Ling Le followed suit and immediately asked Xia Zhou beside him.

“See for yourself. This is my flight for tomorrow.” Xia Zhou pulled up his flight information and showed it to Ling Le.

After confirming they weren’t on the same flight, Ling Le was discouraged for three seconds before immediately coming up with a solution. “Then in the future, let’s coordinate our travel together, okay?”

    “Sure.”

“Then send me your information. I’ll book the tickets for you from now on!”

Ling Le added a note to the information he received and forwarded it to Assistant Yan. He was already looking forward to the next filming session.
