Chapter 7: Taking Him for a Ride

Pei Yisheng considered his task complete once he brought the person back. He put the toiletries back in the bathroom, selected a jacket, and prepared to leave.

Lin Jiayu didn’t dare wake Qin Zhou violently. Seeing Pei Yisheng about to head out, he quickly stood up. “Sheng Sheng, take the breakfast with you.”

Worried that Pei Yisheng might feel burdened, Lin Jiayu said thoughtfully, “I bought too much, it would be a waste if we don’t finish it.”

The breakfast bag was indeed large. Lin Jiayu blocked the door while pulling out items: shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, siu mai—a good five or six varieties—plus different flavors of congee and three cups of soy milk, silently proving that there was certainly enough breakfast for Pei Yisheng.

Feeling awkward about taking the food and leaving immediately, he went to the balcony with Lin Jiayu.

The balcony was separated by a glass door and was quite soundproof. When the dorms were built, to enhance the ambiance, each balcony was equipped with a round table for afternoon tea. When Wen Xiuyun and Song Wen moved in, they completely replaced the furniture, making their dorm room genuinely comfortable.

The carefully cultivated Blue Lace Flower looked like a blue waterfall, refusing to wither even in the early autumn wind.

Watching Pei Yisheng eat seafood congee from a small bowl in front of the flower wall, Lin Jiayu couldn’t help but imagine what Pei Yisheng’s daily life was like before the Pei family went bankrupt.

It must have been a time of leisure and carefree joy.

He propped his chin up, quietly watching Pei Yisheng finish his congee.

The first thing Qin Zhou did upon waking was look at the opposite bed. Pei Yisheng usually drew the curtains when he slept, preventing anyone from peeking, but once he got up, the curtains would be pulled back, allowing the afternoon sun to flood his bed.

Now, the bed was neatly made, as if no one had slept there.

Qin Zhou frowned. Had his alertness dropped this low? He couldn’t even hear Pei Yisheng getting up?

A hint of annoyance crossed his brow. He ruffled his hair, got out of bed, and went to wash up. When he looked up, he saw two people on the balcony, eating and chatting happily.

Heh, wasn’t that Lin Jiayu? When did that bastard sneak in?

Pei Yisheng was even smiling. Smiling, smiling, what was so funny?

He slammed the bathroom door shut with a deafening bang. Pei Yisheng’s eyes widened. He stood up and looked into the room, but couldn’t find Qin Zhou. He turned back to Lin Jiayu, his voice uncertain. “Did Qin Zhou wake up because of us and get angry?”

Lin Jiayu wasn’t sure about that ancestor’s temper either, but they hadn’t been talking loudly. Pei Yisheng had even kept his laughter restrained! They had also saved breakfast for Qin Zhou, so what did he have to be angry about?

“Don’t worry about him. He just has terrible morning breath. He’ll calm down after he washes up,” Lin Jiayu urged Pei Yisheng to sit down.

Pei Yisheng glanced at the bathroom door twice. Seeing no sign of it opening, he slid the balcony glass door open slightly so that he and Lin Jiayu would know the moment Qin Zhou emerged.

Wait, did Qin Zhou really have bad morning breath? He hadn’t noticed.

Pei Yisheng’s confusion flashed for a moment before his attention was drawn back by Lin Jiayu’s words.

“Teachers are probably all the same. If you have any problems, or need help with academics, just come directly to me. Don’t be shy,” Lin Jiayu smiled brightly. “Even though your family isn’t developing here anymore, the old friendship still stands. Don’t feel embarrassed.”

“Sometimes, being a little thick-skinned makes life easier. In ten years, who will care about the things happening now?”

Pei Yisheng’s eyelashes fluttered, tiny specks of moisture clinging to the thick fringe. He subtly sniffed. “Thank you.”

“Thank me for what?” Qin Zhou’s handsome face was still dripping water, which trickled down his chest muscles and slid further down to his abs. His wild, unrestrained appearance made Lin Jiayu avert his gaze. He grabbed a napkin from the table and shoved it into Qin Zhou’s hand, saying disdainfully, “Wipe the water off quickly, how are we supposed to eat if it drips into the breakfast?”

Pei Yisheng already knew Qin Zhou had a good physique thanks to Su Yiyi’s enthusiastic recommendations. He had caught a glimpse last night, and seeing him openly today confirmed it was true.

No wonder he could beat Cao Qing until he cried for his mother. Half of those muscles were probably built from training, and the other half from actual combat.

Pei Yisheng silently swallowed, thinking he absolutely must not upset Qin Zhou. Getting beaten up would not be pleasant.

“Senior Lin said I can ask him for help with my studies, so I was thanking him.”

Qin Zhou curled his lips into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. This trivial matter was worth thanking him for? His eyes were still red, yet he was saying things like that. He was taking him for a ride.

“Fine. His limited abilities are probably only enough to help you. Just be careful he doesn’t lead you astray and make you fail and retake courses.”

He insulted both of them at once. The two exchanged a look, not daring to speak.

After breakfast, Pei Yisheng slipped away under the pretense of going to the Library to study.

Qin Zhou and Lin Jiayu also left the dorm. Qin Zhou sniffed his clothes, which smelled faintly of sweat, and looked disgusted. “Let’s go to my place first and change clothes.”

“I told you to go home directly yesterday, but you wouldn’t. Look how much trouble this is.”

Qin Zhou wasn’t sure what possessed him to sleep in the dorm yesterday. “Fine, I just need a change of clothes. Without those two eyesores, staying in the dorm is still more convenient than off-campus.”

“Are you saying you want to live here permanently now? I won’t bring you breakfast every time,” Lin Jiayu was here to watch the show this time, not to run errands for Qin Zhou.

Qin Zhou shot him a sidelong glance. “No one asked you to.”

“Your rotten mouth will chase away even me, your only friend! Then you’ll be a lonely man!”

Qin Zhou scoffed, completely unconcerned by Lin Jiayu’s shouting.

As the car drove onto the school’s motorized vehicle lane, a bicycle suddenly wobbled erratically and slid right in front of their car. Qin Zhou slammed on the brakes, stopping less than half a meter from the person.

The cyclist hadn’t noticed his surroundings, still clumsily trying to alternate his feet to get the bike moving faster. The more anxious he got, the more chaotic he became. Just as Qin Zhou got out of the car, ready to give him a lecture on traffic laws, the person and the bike tumbled down in a heap.

Lin Jiayu watched from the car, dumbfounded. Were they being scammed in school?

Look at Qin Zhou’s license plate! How dare anyone try to scam him!

Seeing Qin Zhou’s face as black as a pot bottom, Lin Jiayu immediately got out, ready to placate both sides, while also managing the traffic behind them. They couldn’t let all the students gather to watch the spectacle.

Only after the traffic behind them started moving did Lin Jiayu rush to the front of the car. What he saw made him pause—it was an acquaintance!

Fang Xin was still disoriented. Right in front of him was the Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and beside it was Qin Zhou, arms crossed, staring at him coldly. He belatedly tried to stand up. Only when he reached for the bike did he realize his ankle hurt.

Perhaps the injury hadn’t fully healed. The seemingly gentle Wen Xiuyun had only taken him to the doctor and bought medicine, then left him alone. He heard Wen Xiuyun had gone for an exchange program and wouldn’t be back for a month.

He couldn’t find Wen Xiuyun, had to attend classes, and had to endure the pressure of strange looks from those around him, so he hadn’t rested properly. His face was haggard and full of grievances. He opened his mouth and said to Qin Zhou, “Classmate, can you please stop the students from cyberbullying me?”

“I didn’t mean to cling to you. That day in the cafeteria, I just wanted to thank you for pointing the way. Today was also an accident, I didn’t mean for it to happen. Could you please explain to everyone? It’s really hard for me when they misunderstand me like this.”

Fang Xin had some merits to be the Protagonist Shou. He had an honest, gentle, and approachable appearance, which, combined with the nervousness and inferiority of someone who had just arrived in the big city from a small town, made him easily attract certain deviants. In the original plot, these second-generation heirs who squandered their lives enjoyed making fun of him.

At this moment, his appearance of being overwhelmed by pressure genuinely softened the hearts of passing students.

“Exactly, so many people flock to those popular figures, why are they always targeting him? It’s too unfair.”

“Fang Xin didn’t do anything wrong, did he? At least his intentions were good.”

“Next time there’s a post, I’ll speak up for him.”

“Are you serious? Can’t you hear how manipulative that tone is? Besides, who has time to stare at him every day? The last post about him was related to Wen Xiuyun, wasn’t it? Everyone was asking who was sitting on Wen Xiuyun’s lap. Who cares about the clown?”

“But how does he manage to accurately target these two people? Or is he always bumping into people when he’s confused?”

“Maybe he has some hidden illness?”

Qin Zhou narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing the person in front of him. After a moment, he noticed Fang Xin’s reddening ears and sneered. “Is that so? If I explain, will all this disappear?”

“I’ll tell you, no. It will only escalate. The best way to solve this is to see me, not stop, and not talk to me.”

“You complain about being troubled, yet you keep creating difficulties for yourself. I really can’t figure out what you want. To show off your uniqueness? Sorry, it looks cheap,” Qin Zhou raised an eyebrow, his mocking gaze nearly making Fang Xin want to sink into the ground.

Fang Xin breathed rapidly, his chest heaving, as if he were extremely angry. “It’s not like that!”

“Alright, take this money. Who told you to fall in front of my car? Go to the hospital and get checked out,” Qin Zhou pointed to his head. “Go on, don’t let me stop you.”

He turned and got into the car, honking briefly at Lin Jiayu, who hadn’t returned yet.

Lin Jiayu scurried into the car. “Dude, your verbal skills are amazing! Were you letting me win before? My worldview has been reconstructed, Qin Zhou is actually friendly!”

    Qin Zhou: “…”

This incident didn’t affect Qin Zhou much, but it pushed Fang Xin back into the spotlight.

Lin Jiayu felt this wasn’t a good situation. Qin Zhou and Fang Xin had no real connection, and he didn’t want them to be linked together by constant gossip.

He privately contacted the forum administrator and had many of the posts deleted. When students noticed, they stopped talking about it.

Su Yiyi, deprived of spiritual sustenance, lost his motivation to study.

That day, he nudged Pei Yisheng. “I heard the CP Comic Convention is opening soon. Cheng Cheng gave me a few tickets. I think she’s going to cosplay as a male character, I forget which one. Let’s go support her! I can even take photos for her!”

“Cheng Cheng does cosplay too?” Pei Yisheng had a good impression of her. “What day is it? I’ll check my schedule.”

If the CP convention opened, he might have to temporarily stop his proxy photography work.
