Chapter 3 “Bite again and I’ll break your teeth.”

Qin Zhou watched the slightly lively figure walk further and further away with an expressionless face, his impatience toward the person in front of him growing.

“Student, I really just arrived and don’t know my way around the school. I didn’t mean to waste your time. Could you please tell me the route again, or maybe I can record it and listen as I walk later?”

Under the blazing sun, Fang Xin’s forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat. He fumbled to pull out his phone, but the unknown brand phone was nearly frozen in the heat. The scratched screen seemed unresponsive. Fang Xin bit his lip, his face anxious, looking as if he were about to cry.

Qin Zhou looked at the boy, who was about the same height as him, displaying such an expression. He found it utterly speechless, and his last shred of patience vanished. The coldness in his voice was undisguised. “Walk straight along the road. Ask again if you don’t understand.”

With that, he strode away quickly. Just as Fang Xin unlocked his phone, he felt Qin Zhou drift away like a gust of wind, leaving him standing there, dumbfounded and helpless.

It took so long that his vision started to blur from the sun before Fang Xin took heavy steps, pulling his suitcase—which contained only a few items—toward his dormitory building.

While the Protagonist Group was sweating profusely and following the plot under the sun, Pei Yisheng and Su Yiyi had already entered the Library. The cool air conditioning was running non-stop, causing both of them to sigh in comfort.

Pei Yisheng remembered that he had offered to buy drinks, so he and Su Yiyi headed straight for the coffee bar.

“I’ll have an Orange C Americano,” Pei Yisheng ordered, then asked Su Yiyi, “What do you want? Pick anything—even the expensive ones are fine.”

Pei Yisheng’s voice trailed off playfully. Su Yiyi glanced at him. “Why are you so happy?”

“Is it that obvious?” Pei Yisheng didn’t notice his continuously upturned lips, but he was genuinely happy. This happiness was infectious, making even Su Yiyi smile involuntarily.

“Extremely obvious. But I don’t like Americano. I’ll take a passion fruit drink.”

The two sat in a corner. Su Yiyi touched the cool condensation dripping down the cup and couldn’t help but ask, “Sheng Sheng, are you going to continue with your part-time job?”

Pei Yisheng sipped through his straw, sighing at the question. “I guess so.”

Although his recent fever was caused by standing in the rain for several hours during a stand-in job, it didn’t rain every time. This job was one of the few he could find that offered high pay for short hours. If he switched to something else, it might not be as comfortable.

He needed money, a lot of money.

Su Yiyi’s eyes darted around. “Then I’ll keep an eye out for you. If I find any quick-money part-time jobs, I’ll definitely tell you.”

“Great, great. As long as it doesn’t interfere with classes or exams, I have time,” Pei Yisheng was only down for a moment before cheering himself up. Life, after all, would always get better.

After barely three minutes of seriousness, Su Yiyi exposed himself. He looked around furtively, like a thief, before lowering his voice to gossip. “Sheng Sheng, what if I also go and ask for directions?”

He blinked, and it was obvious who he was thinking of asking.

Pei Yisheng poked Su Yiyi’s forehead with a finger. “Stop that thought!”

Qin Zhou had a notorious reputation. Su Yiyi wasn’t the Protagonist Shou; rushing up to him would get him exposed! He couldn’t watch Su Yiyi walk down a road of no return, or he wouldn’t feel at ease.

But if he said it directly, he was afraid Su Yiyi would become rebellious. Pei Yisheng tried hard to recall the details of their encounter with the Protagonist Group, and combining it with the book he had read, he actually remembered something. “Don’t you think Qin Zhou was very special today?”

“Special? Especially handsome?” Su Yiyi’s eyes lit up. Looking from afar, Qin Zhou seemed even taller and longer-legged, radiating hormones from a distance. How could someone look so appealing? Su Yiyi was practically drooling.

Pei Yisheng endured it, gritting his teeth as he said, “Especially patient.”

The rumors about Qin Zhou on the forum were all about his good looks and bad temper; most people couldn’t even exchange two sentences with him. But today, they had watched Qin Zhou chat back and forth with the Protagonist Shou without losing his temper at all.

Su Yiyi clearly knew more about Qin Zhou’s rumored personality, and his heart immediately sank. “No way, are all the campus male Bodhisattvas gone? Will I still be able to look at his abs later?”

Ignoring his sadness, he gloomily took out his phone, opened his photo album, and furiously scrolled through a hundred pictures of Qin Zhou’s abs.

    Pei Yisheng: …

He felt that his good friend didn’t particularly need him to enlighten him. Someone who just enjoyed the sight of a male Bodhisattva and looked at a cyber-husband couldn’t be some kind of villain.

The two of them wandered around the Library, noting down the subject divisions on each floor, and then chose a middle floor.

Their dormitory building was mixed-occupancy, mostly for students from well-off families or those who had transferred majors. Pei Yisheng studied Finance, and Su Yiyi studied Directing and Editing. If they wanted to be study buddies, they had to compromise with each other.

Since it was the beginning of the semester, there weren’t many people in the Library; most were upperclassmen. They found seats and each picked up a book. Pei Yisheng flipped through a piece of literature completely unrelated to his coursework and slowly became engrossed.

Su Yiyi couldn’t sit still for long. He looked left and right, and soon borrowed paper and a pen from the person next to him, quickly sketching on the paper. When Pei Yisheng closed his book, Su Yiyi was excitedly adding details to his masterpiece.

“Sheng Sheng, look!” Su Yiyi mouthed.

Pei Yisheng leaned over. Qin Zhou’s face was vividly rendered on the paper. Another small back of a head was tucked into the bottom right corner, lacking even strands of hair, showing that the artist, Su Yiyi, only cared about that handsome face belonging to the person named Qin.

    “It looks quite similar.”

Su Yiyi was pleased. “Of course. Are you done looking? Let’s go, I’m hungry.”

Pei Yisheng nodded. He went to return the book, and Su Yiyi returned the paper and pen. When Pei Yisheng returned, Su Yiyi had nothing in his hands. As if knowing what Pei Yisheng was about to ask, Su Yiyi proactively said, “I threw it away.”

Someone like Qin Zhou attracted too much trouble. He was just drawing out of boredom, not trying to cause problems for himself.

Pei Yisheng carefully examined his expression and gave Su Yiyi a thumbs-up for his awareness.

Two days later, they officially started their course studies. The packed schedule immediately took up most of Pei Yisheng’s time. He arranged to study with Su Yiyi in the evenings. Although Su Yiyi was a bit unaccustomed to it, finding it too diligent, he managed to stick with it.

Pei Yisheng was out early and back late, and for a long time, he didn’t see Qin Zhou, or even Wen Xiuyun and Song Wen much. Not having to deal with these second-generation celestial beings made Pei Yisheng feel much more relaxed. Coupled with the occasional part-time stand-in jobs, he finally felt like his life was starting to get back on track.

The only problem was that the timing of the part-time jobs was difficult to coordinate. As a stand-in, he had to follow other people’s schedules. After gritting his teeth and skipping two relatively easy classes, Pei Yisheng faced a new worry.

This couldn’t continue. He should ideally find an online part-time job, but that might mean his income wouldn’t be guaranteed.

Pei Yisheng used the student in front of him as cover to browse job postings during class. After filtering through layers of options, none were suitable. He pursed his lips and opened his Moments feed. He remembered that a bar marketer used to post recruitment ads, claiming the work was easy and the pay was generous, with a decent salary plus tips for one night.

Pei Yisheng didn’t believe the first part of that statement, but if there was money to be made, he could endure it.

As soon as he opened Moments, the person was spamming the feed with the same old pitch. Pei Yisheng clicked on the profile picture and sent a message.

The person replied instantly with a ten-second voice message, which Pei Yisheng converted to text.

“Good afternoon, Young Master Pei! It’s been a long time since you graced Lihuo Bar. Did you find a new favorite? We all miss you dearly, and our bar has developed many new ways to play. You and your friends should come and experience them~”

Pei Yisheng’s face involuntarily flushed. It wasn’t shame over the change in his identity; it was because no one had ever called him Young Master Pei before, and it felt strangely embarrassing.

He was about to reply when he heard the teacher announce a roll call to record participation grades. He quickly sent a brief reply and planned to elaborate after class.

Pei Yisheng read the part-time job conditions sent by the bar marketer while eating. The pay was higher than what he had seen in Moments, but the service details were also more specific, likely due to his good personal appearance.

He chewed on his chopsticks, unable to make up his mind. Even the chicken leg rice on the table wasn’t as appealing. He forced himself to eat a couple of bites, tasting nothing, and decided to rest a bit before finishing. Then, he saw the Protagonist Shou, Fang Xin, wandering around the seating area like a headless fly.

With so many empty seats, where did he want to sit?

Pei Yisheng was curious and watched the other person.

Fang Xin had just gotten his food and sat down. There was no one he knew nearby. He sighed, wondering why he always struggled to make friends.

He ate his meal silently and alone. When he looked up, he happened to see the student who had given him directions that day. The person stood out in the crowded restaurant, extremely conspicuous, like a glowing entity that made everyone else his backdrop. Fang Xin’s heart skipped a beat. He stood up and chased after him without thinking.

He felt they were too fated; this student must be the friend arranged for him by heaven!

“Hello, student. I’m Fang Xin. Do you remember me? I asked you for directions on the first day of school.” Fang Xin quickly ran up to Qin Zhou, looking at him hopefully. He unconsciously straightened his back and said happily, “I’ve been wanting to thank you properly. How about I pay for your dinner tonight?”

Qin Zhou was expressionless. Lin Jiayu poked his head out from behind. “Oh, what’s going on?”

He looked at Qin Zhou teasingly, his eyes full of amusement.

“I don’t know,” Qin Zhou said flatly.

Fang Xin immediately became anxious. How could he not know? He had already introduced himself, and it had only been a few days ago. It was impossible to forget so quickly. His mouth opened and closed nervously. “It was, um, last week. I asked you for directions.”

“Student, lots of freshmen ask for directions. It’s normal not to remember. We do good deeds without leaving our names or expecting anything in return. You should go eat,” Lin Jiayu had enjoyed the show and started to smooth things over with a smile.

Fang Xin, however, stubbornly looked at Qin Zhou, seemingly ignoring Lin Jiayu’s words. Seeing this, Lin Jiayu shrugged, thinking how great Qin Zhou’s charm was. What a shame, though, Qin Zhou wasn’t known for his good temper.

Sure enough, seeing Fang Xin stubbornly refuse to leave, Qin Zhou finally focused on him. This was a face that was seen and forgotten. If the other person hadn’t explained clearly, Qin Zhou truly wouldn’t have remembered. He slowly curled his lips, raised an eyebrow, and leaned closer. “Do you know me?”

Qin Zhou was blessed with exceptional looks, purely handsome and intimidating. Any expression on that face made hearts race. The campus forum directly called him the “Hormone Emitter,” showing his power. Fang Xin was stunned when he suddenly saw the approaching face, and the next second, he demonstrated what it meant to be flushed crimson.

His face was bright red with excitement. He stammered, trying to say something, but Qin Zhou seemed to find something amusing and let out a scoff.

    Fang Xin’s brain crashed again.

He saw Qin Zhou’s mouth moving, but his ears were ringing, and he couldn’t hear anything.

“Sorry, I have my own money. I don’t eat other people’s food,” Qin Zhou said with a malicious smile. Seeing that Fang Xin still hadn’t recovered, he immediately found it boring.

Lin Jiayu saw him leave and quickly followed suit.

“I really don’t get it. With your temper, how is your popularity so high? People are looking for you every day. Why isn’t anyone looking for the dashing, handsome, witty, and humorous me!” Lin Jiayu complained.

Qin Zhou had a little more patience for his talkative childhood friend. He snorted and said, “You don’t know how annoying it is to deal with all this nonsense. If you like it, I’ll give all this popularity to you.”

Lin Jiayu was heartbroken and cried out, “You truly don’t appreciate what you have!”

On the other side, Fang Xin, who was still standing in the same spot, finally came to his senses and realized that many students eating were staring at him. Accompanied by those meaningful glances, Fang Xin’s face turned pale. He stopped eating, left the cafeteria with his head down, and sat sadly by the flower bed at the entrance.

He couldn’t understand why, when they were so fated, the other person would humiliate him like that.

Pei Yisheng watched the entire scene from behind a pillar. He was even more dumbfounded than Fang Xin. Why was Qin Zhou acting like this? Was there a hidden plotline of chasing the wife in the crematorium for Qin Zhou’s arc? He had read the book too quickly, skipping parts, and truly hadn’t paid attention to these minor plots.

He returned to his seat and slowly ate his chicken leg, deciding not to pay attention to them anymore. The plot would correct itself anyway. Otherwise, wouldn’t all his suffering over the summer—where he couldn’t do this or that—have been for nothing?

After eating, Pei Yisheng still had to go to the Library. Because he had lingered over his meal, he took a shortcut. With no streetlights, Pei Yisheng used his phone flashlight, stepping unevenly on the round cobblestones. For some reason, his heart was pounding fiercely.

He walked forward with his head down, wanting to quickly return to a place with streetlights.

Just as he was about to pass a large bush, he was suddenly scooped up and locked into a strange embrace. His mouth was tightly covered. Pei Yisheng’s eyes widened in terror. His cries for help were muffled to only whimpers. In a moment of quick thinking, he opened his mouth and bit down, but the person was incredibly enduring and refused to let go.

“Look clearly at who I am!” Qin Zhou’s eyes were fierce. “Bite again and I’ll break your teeth.”

    Pei Yisheng: !
