Chapter Index

It was one o’clock in the morning, and Gu Shenyuan still couldn’t sleep.

The overly soft bed made him uncomfortable, and the unfamiliar environment constantly reminded him of his purpose for being here.

His special Bloodline had exposed him to the wickedness of human nature since childhood, making him increasingly cold and firming his resolve never to develop feelings for anyone.

But merely controlling himself not to fall in love was far from enough; he needed to completely sever any possibility.

He needed to lift this innate curse, preventing others from exploiting him through his emotions. Alternatively, he could simply use medicine to eliminate his feelings altogether.

He couldn’t solve these two problems himself, but after searching through all the data, he concluded that Ye Qingyun was the person most capable of researching and developing a solution.

Gu Shenyuan had painstakingly boarded this ship and successfully met Ye Qingyun—the entire plan was halfway to success. The challenge now was how to get Ye Qingyun to teach him what he wanted to learn without arousing suspicion.

If Ye Qingyun was willing to seriously teach him because of his good attitude, that would be best. If not, he might have to resort to more forceful methods.

Gu Shenyuan frowned and thought for a long time, becoming increasingly awake.

He opened his terminal, intending to watch something random to induce sleep, but inadvertently saw a video recommendation pop up—

[From the moment I started paying too much attention to you, I had already begun to fall into the abyss of love… Loving you started with that one extra glance.]

    Gu Shenyuan: “…”

According to this theory, he might unknowingly fall for Ye Qingyun.

Gu Shenyuan expressionlessly closed the terminal and pulled the covers over himself.

    Ridiculous, utter nonsense.

This wasn’t even a problem he needed to guard against.

The possibility of him falling in love with someone who constantly opposed him and was perpetually jealous of him was zero.

Their personalities were completely incompatible, leaving no chance for feelings to develop over time. This brought him peace of mind.

The next morning, Ye Qingyun brought his books and prepared lesson materials and knocked on Gu Shenyuan’s door.

Gu Shenyuan was still taciturn, but fortunately, he didn’t need to speak much, only listen. Ye Qingyun directed Gu Shenyuan to sit down, took a seat himself, and began the great undertaking of teaching.

But the problem lay in the lecturing itself.

Ye Qingyun wasn’t a professional actor; if he were asked to sit quietly and occasionally say a few words, he might be able to maintain his Vicious Cannon Fodder persona. But now, his attention was entirely focused on the explanation, and he was constantly rambling, his speaking style unconsciously becoming less vicious.

In the first few minutes of the lecture, Ye Qingyun’s tone was quite aggressive: “If you don’t understand, too bad. Don’t think I’ll explain it again. I’m telling you, it’s not going to happen.” Ye Qingyun thought for a moment and then added, seeking trouble, “Unless you beg me, and if I’m happy, I might mercifully explain it one more time.”

Gu Shenyuan acted as if he hadn’t heard, opened his book, and quietly stared at the pages.

Ye Qingyun enthusiastically began his lecture.

    One hour later.

“Did you understand? This part is relatively difficult to grasp; it’s normal not to understand it the first time. Flip back to page 158, I’ll explain it again.” Ye Qingyun, engrossed in teaching, said naturally, completely unaware that his tone and content were out of character.

Gu Shenyuan flipped back to the page, his peripheral vision involuntarily drifting toward Ye Qingyun, who was looking down and lecturing.

Under the bright yellow light, Ye Qingyun’s eyes were lowered, his shallow amber pupils reflecting warm light. His expression was gentle, and his tone was soft, carrying a hint of encouragement.

His delicate features, stripped of jealousy and disdain, appeared tender and patient in this atmosphere, making him exceptionally captivating.

Gu Shenyuan recalled a currently popular male star who had become wildly famous after starring in a youth campus drama, earning the title of “the entire galaxy’s first love face.”

In Gu Shenyuan’s estimation, that male star wasn’t even half as handsome as Ye Qingyun was right now. If Ye Qingyun were pushed out as a celebrity, he could easily garner countless flowers and attention.

…Such a person, unlike himself, was not hindered by any circumstance preventing him from freely enjoying life, yet he insisted on remaining solitary, conducting research that ordinary people couldn’t understand.

In that moment, a subtle sense of respect arose from the bottom of Gu Shenyuan’s heart.

The gentle lecturing stopped. Ye Qingyun frowned, looking somewhat annoyed: “Are you spacing out?”

Gu Shenyuan instinctively denied it: “No, I don’t understand.”

Ye Qingyun narrowed his eyes, looking at Gu Shenyuan with a serious expression.

Gu Shenyuan met Ye Qingyun’s gaze expressionlessly, already anticipating a massive wave of ridicule and contempt.

Ye Qingyun definitely wouldn’t be willing to explain it again, but fortunately, he had already understood, so it didn’t matter if he didn’t repeat it.

However, the development of events was contrary to Gu Shenyuan’s expectations. He heard Ye Qingyun sigh wearily, then flip back to the very first page he had mentioned, asking him, “Specifically, what don’t you understand?”

The tone sounded helpless yet patient. It seemed Ye Qingyun had completely forgotten what he had said earlier.

Gu Shenyuan paused, exchanging a look of surprise with Ye Qingyun.

Ye Qingyun seemed to recall something, and his expression instantly changed, adopting a mocking face: “Hmph, very well, your stupidity entertains me. This time, I’ll generously explain it to you again. What part is confusing?”

Gu Shenyuan, harboring an emotion he couldn’t quite describe, lowered his head and randomly pointed to a section in the book: “Here.”

Ye Qingyun began to explain that section in extremely meticulous detail again. Gu Shenyuan looked at the book, listening to the earnest instruction in his ear, but his thoughts drifted away once more.

When he was young, his family background was known to many, so he was surrounded by countless people with ulterior motives.

When he grew up, he concealed his background, but then countless people coveted his face, attempting to seize him through cunning or force.

It had been a long time since he had sat with someone like this, listening to them speak with a relatively pleasant mood.

Ye Qingyun finally finished the explanation, his throat dry, and he looked at his student expectantly: “Do you understand now?”

Gu Shenyuan paused for a moment, then nodded: “I understand.”

Ye Qingyun felt like the clouds had parted to reveal the moon; he was practically overjoyed, and he forgot himself, giving a thumbs-up and praising, “Good, so smart!”

As soon as Ye Qingyun finished the praise, he saw Gu Shenyuan’s surprised look and immediately snapped back to reality, struggling to maintain his persona: “I mean I’m so smart! I can even teach someone like you. I wasn’t saying you’re smart, don’t misunderstand!”

“Mm.” Gu Shenyuan lowered his eyes, concealing a fleeting smile, and said flatly, “Continue.”

Time flew by. Ye Qingyun lectured passionately, completely oblivious to the passage of time. Since the nutrient solution he had consumed this morning lasted all day, he didn’t feel hungry. By the time he realized something was amiss, it was already half past midnight.

And he didn’t even know if Gu Shenyuan had eaten anything that morning.

“Why didn’t you stop me?” Ye Qingyun awkwardly expressed his concern. “Didn’t you know to remind me to drink water and eat? And it’s so late, and you didn’t say anything. Are you trying to make me miss my beauty sleep?”

    Gu Shenyuan: “…No.”

“Hmph, that’s enough for today!” Ye Qingyun stood up. “I won’t be getting up early tomorrow. I’ll come again in the afternoon.” So Gu Shenyuan wouldn’t have to wake up early to wait for him either.

    Gu Shenyuan: “…Alright.”

Was it his imagination, or did he feel like Ye Qingyun was awkwardly showing concern for him?

Ye Qingyun strode away. Gu Shenyuan watched him leave until the door closed, then withdrew his gaze.

Gu Shenyuan replayed Ye Qingyun’s last two sentences in his mind. The more he thought about it, the more he felt Ye Qingyun was awkwardly and reluctantly showing concern for him, his “Love Rival.”

    …A little cute.
