Chapter Index

What did he mean by, “only Gu Shenyuan’s things can feel his body temperature”?

Ye Qingyun didn’t live in an ivory tower and understood exactly what Gu Shenyuan was implying. It took him only a second to react.

“All you know is how to be a hooligan,” Ye Qingyun pushed Gu Shenyuan away, his ears red. “You talk a good game, but if you can’t overcome your psychological barrier that night and we just end up helping each other out with our hands, watch me curse you out!”

Gu Shenyuan’s gaze deepened. He released Ye Qingyun and smiled. “Hands? You won’t need your hands. You just need to hold me.”

Ye Qingyun didn’t want to continue this discussion with Gu Shenyuan. After all, talking about it was just theoretical, and setting expectations too high was risky. It would be embarrassing if their efforts came to nothing.

Ye Qingyun glared at Gu Shenyuan, then turned and walked out.

After eating and taking a nap, Gu Shenyuan was still busy. Ye Qingyun was happy to have some free time, so he lay on a rattan chair and continued to follow the news he had been tracking earlier.

Online, more and more people felt their reactions were becoming sluggish. The actions they took while in an unconscious state also caused widespread panic.

I woke up and found myself banging my head against the wall. Am I going crazy?

I didn’t hurt myself, but I wrote down all my bank passwords. Even more ridiculous, I was about to send my payment password to a completely blank Star Net account!

…I’m not superstitious, but is this some kind of possession?

Ye Qingyun scrolled through the comments, his brow furrowing.

This situation was visibly abnormal. He wondered if Gu Shenyuan had sent people to handle it.

He had seen this method of control before. In the original novel, there was a Scum Gong whose Ability was the temporary control of a person’s actions. The side effects were exactly what these people described: the controlled person didn’t remember what happened while they were controlled and were sluggish upon waking up.

In the original work, that person was obsessed with Gu Shenyuan’s appearance and strength, attempting to control him and boasting that if he couldn’t win Gu Shenyuan’s heart, he would take his body.

Of course, that person never even touched the hem of Gu Shenyuan’s clothes before being ruthlessly killed by him.

Could that person be causing trouble again? But that person shouldn’t be able to control so many people simultaneously.

While Ye Qingyun was pondering this, the website he was browsing—the largest traffic site in the entire galaxy—suddenly went dark.

All the original text and links vanished, replaced by a live stream interface.

In the center of the screen, a man sat wearing a mask painted with a grotesque smiling face, making him look pale and eerie.

“My puppets, how are you all doing?” the man spoke. His voice, altered by a voice changer, was high-pitched and strange.

The live stream interface did not prohibit viewer comments, so soon, many complaints appeared below.

    Who is this person?

Who are his puppets? Is he crazy?

Did he hack the website? Why isn’t anyone doing anything?

The man saw the bullet screen and let out a few mocking laughs. “You don’t seem to understand your situation yet. But that’s alright, I am a very patient man. I will explain everything slowly now.”

The man clapped his hands, and several expressionless people appeared on camera.

Their eyes were vacant, making them look like walking corpses. The man snapped his fingers, and the vacant eyes of those people gradually regained their luster. They looked around in panic, seemingly unaware of why they were there.

One of them addressed the man, who looked the most composed despite his strange attire. “Who are you? Did you bring us here? I warn you, let me go, or you’ll regret it!”

The threatened man laughed heartily and casually waved his hand. “Kneel.”

The person who had just been threatening the man immediately dropped to the floor with a thud, kneeling instantly upon hearing the command.

Everyone’s eyes once again became dull and vacant.

“Well, do they look like you?” The masked man looked back at the camera, addressing everyone watching the live stream. “Do you see yourselves in them? Feeling confused about things that happened, having no memory, and reacting slowly?”

The live stream room fell silent; no one typed a comment.

“Congratulations!” The masked man spread his hands, his tone exaggeratedly high. “Everyone who has felt this way will, sooner or later, become a puppet obeying my commands, just like them.”

Finally, a new bullet screen appeared in the seemingly frozen live stream:

You’re lying! No one’s Ability is that powerful, capable of controlling so many people across such a vast distance in the entire galaxy. Not even the Sovereign can do that!

This comment seemed to remind the others, and they chimed in, trying to force the man to admit he was lying.

The masked man shook his head and said with a gloating tone, “Yes, you are all correct. No one’s Ability is that powerful. But unfortunately, it’s not just my Ability that is controlling you.”

“I, who am favored by the heavens, obtained a miraculous potion. By adding my own Bloodline to it, the potion can transform into an Ability Enhancer suitable for me.”

“Just one drop of this potion can contaminate the soil of an entire planet, amplifying and releasing my Ability to cover everyone on that planet.”

“Don’t celebrate too early if you think you haven’t been affected. Your turn will come eventually. I won’t miss a single one of you.”

By the end of his speech, the man was utterly carried away. He stepped on the people kneeling on the ground, kicking them down and forcing them to lie like dogs.

Ye Qingyun was both angry and anxious. He typed a reply in the live stream:

Don’t get ahead of yourself! You’re just relying on the power of a potion. If we neutralize that potion, you’ll be nothing!

The man laughed loudly. “You’re right. You are welcome to try.”

He was confident enough to reveal this information because he knew there was no Antidote for the potion.

He had discovered the potion when he accidentally stumbled into the tomb of the most famous pharmacologist in galactic history. That renowned pharmacologist had created the potion but failed to create an Antidote for it.

The pharmacologist had even concluded that it was an unresolvable potion. He had only hoped that no one would discover it, and if they did, that they would use it for good, not evil.

With this potion, he could do whatever he wanted. He certainly wouldn’t do any “good deeds.” Of course, he would use it to seize what he desired.

To be safe, the man had captured several excellent pharmacologists currently alive and forced them to create an Antidote, but none succeeded. They couldn’t find a single breakthrough, which completely put the man at ease.

Ye Qingyun continued to ask: Why are you doing this? What is your goal?

The man’s eyes, visible through the narrow slits in his mask, revealed a greedy gaze. “Why? Because I am the strongest in the galaxy! I will be the King of this galaxy!”

As soon as he said this, the long-suppressed viewers exploded, frantically calling out to Gu Shenyuan, hoping he would protect them.

The man seemed to think of something, and his greedy gaze shifted, becoming even more disgusting. “Gu Shenyuan, I know you are watching. Listen, it’s not impossible to keep your people sane instead of turning into completely mindless puppets, but only if you agree to one demand—”

Ye Qingyun’s heart skipped a beat. Gu Shenyuan was the Heartthrob Protagonist of this book, and this person was the Cannon Fodder obsessed with Gu Shenyuan’s face. When this person mentioned Gu Shenyuan, it couldn’t be good!

Sure enough, Ye Qingyun heard the man continue: “I heard the news that you are getting married, and I am very unhappy. You and I are the best combination of strength and ambition. Therefore, I want you to kill your bride, hang his head in the highest conference hall for public display, and marry me instead.”

Ye Qingyun slapped the chair. This guy was indeed malicious and had designs on Gu Shenyuan!

“Don’t even think about assassinating me. If you kill me, all these people will die with me! Heh, if you can meet my demand within three days, I will temporarily keep your people normal. Otherwise…”

The man didn’t finish. He clapped his hands, and one of the people lying on the ground stood up, picked up a knife from the table, and fiercely swung it at himself.

Ye Qingyun was so startled that he instantly closed his eyes, bracing for the scream that was about to sound.

No scream came. Ye Qingyun tentatively opened his eyes a crack and found that his terminal had been turned off, and a slender hand was resting on top of it.

Even without seeing the owner of the hand, Ye Qingyun knew who had arrived.

Gu Shenyuan rubbed his hair, comforting him softly. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

Ye Qingyun grabbed Gu Shenyuan’s hand, anxious. “That person, he—”

Ye Qingyun was so frantic that he choked on his own words. Gu Shenyuan patted his back and said gently, “I have already dispatched every excellent pharmacologist we could find to research the Antidote, and a team of elite soldiers to locate that person’s whereabouts. We will apprehend him immediately once he is found.”

“That person only gave us three days. Can they accomplish all of that in three days?” Ye Qingyun didn’t want to sound discouraged, but he was truly worried. “How about we postpone the wedding, and then find a statue to disguise as my corp—mmph!”

Ye Qingyun was fiercely kissed, only to be released after a long moment.

Gu Shenyuan’s voice was tinged with anger. “Don’t say things like that.”

“I’m just trying to find a solution! We need a temporary measure, right? Otherwise, with such little time…” Ye Qingyun’s voice grew softer until he finally fell silent.

Gu Shenyuan said coldly, “I will not allow anyone to replace you in marriage, not even as a temporary measure. It’s impossible.”

But what about the people who were being threatened?

Ye Qingyun didn’t voice the question. He observed Gu Shenyuan’s expression and suddenly understood something.

Gu Shenyuan was too calm about this matter, even appearing somewhat cold.

…But Gu Shenyuan’s personality was like this. Without Ye Qingyun’s presence, Gu Shenyuan would live alone in cold indifference, completely ignoring the affairs of others.

Gu Shenyuan looked at him, his expression showing a stubborn, reckless determination. “I was never a good person, nor do I have a broad, selfless heart. You are on the scale, and no matter who is on the other side, the scale will always tip toward you. I refuse to compromise you to save others.”

Ye Qingyun looked into Gu Shenyuan’s eyes. After a moment, Gu Shenyuan looked away.

Gu Shenyuan knew that Ye Qingyun probably disliked his approach.

Ye Qingyun was drawn to the light. His selfish, dark, and non-holistic thinking would surely displease Ye Qingyun.

But this was his true thought process. He could be an excellent leader, but all of that was conditional on not touching his bottom line.

Ye Qingyun was his bottom line. What did the lives of others matter to him?

After a long silence, Gu Shenyuan asked in a low voice, “Do you still want to marry me?”

“You just said all the excellent pharmacologists went to make the Antidote. You lied,” Ye Qingyun replied, dodging the question.

    “…I didn’t.”

“You did. There is clearly one person who can make the Antidote sitting here doing nothing,” Ye Qingyun said.

Gu Shenyuan remained silent. Ye Qingyun stood up and wrapped his arms around Gu Shenyuan’s neck. “I’m leaving. I won’t see you for the next few days.”

Gu Shenyuan gripped Ye Qingyun’s slender waist, wishing he could completely tuck Ye Qingyun into his embrace.

Ye Qingyun’s lips brushed against his face, and he heard Ye Qingyun say, “I will research the Antidote as quickly as possible so the wedding date won’t be delayed. Wait for me.”
