Chapter Index

After Ye Qingyun introduced himself, he keenly sensed that the aura of the leader, who had been watching him expressionlessly, had completely changed.

This change was hard to describe as good or bad; it was like a string that had been relaxed suddenly snapped taut, even showing a tendency to tighten so much it might break.

Ye Qingyun was startled and instinctively took a step forward, wanting to soothe the leader. However, realizing what he was doing, he immediately stopped and took a step back.

Oh no, he was almost seduced by beauty into taking such a dangerous action—it was utterly terrifying!

On the way here, Ye Qingyun had heard a lot from the guard escort, who said that this leader was quite aloof, didn’t like dealing with people, but as long as one didn’t touch his reverse scale, they would be treated like air and wouldn’t be in mortal danger.

But he hadn’t done anything, had he? He had only introduced his name. Why was the leader reacting so intensely to him?

Could it be that one of the characters in his name was forbidden and couldn’t even be mentioned?

Ye Qingyun felt that something was seriously wrong. He lowered his head, waiting for the leader’s reaction, while his mind raced, trying to figure out a way to leave smoothly.

    —-

Gu Shenyuan was barely able to control his emotions; the blood in his entire body felt like it was boiling.

It was Qingyun… Qingyun was back.

But how could this be? Qingyun was dead, dying in his arms, and he had watched him turn to ash.

Rationally, Gu Shenyuan told himself that this must be a malicious imitator who had somehow stolen Ye Qingyun’s data and come here to gain some benefit.

What he should do now was kill this person and teach them a harsh lesson, sending them to hell with the greatest possible pain.

    But…

All previous imitators had been exposed by him with a single glance, without exception.

Yet, facing this person, his sixth sense for identification seemed to fail. Not only could he not find a single flaw, but he was also urged to rush forward and embrace this person, kiss them fiercely, and ensure they could never leave again.

Two conflicting thoughts intertwined in his mind. Gu Shenyuan closed his eyes, and his Ability uncontrollably burst forth, swirling wildly in the space.

Ye Qingyun was startled, watching the other people in the room swiftly and expertly exit. One of them even tried to pull him along.

But before that person could touch him, a layer of black mist separated him from the other person.

That person didn’t dare to continue pulling Ye Qingyun along. Soon, only Ye Qingyun and the leader remained in the meeting room.

Thick, heavy Ability black mist swirled around Ye Qingyun. Ye Qingyun had seen videos of the leader fighting and knew that the power of this black mist was enough to instantly turn him into dust, evaporating him from the world.

But strangely, Ye Qingyun felt no fear. He looked at the black mist, which resembled cotton candy, and even had the impulse to reach out and touch it.

Wait, what time was it? How could he still be thinking about that?

Why had the leader kept him here alone? What did he want?

The black mist blocked Ye Qingyun’s vision. He couldn’t see the leader, only hear the sound of clothing rubbing as someone stood up from a chair, and the heavy footsteps approaching him.

    “Tap, tap, tap.”

The footsteps were right in front of him. Ye Qingyun subconsciously wanted to step back, but found that the formless black mist had solidified into a sturdy wall behind him, forcing him to stand still.

The black mist in front of him dispersed, and Ye Qingyun saw the leader standing just a step away, his eyes bottomless black, staring at him unblinkingly.

So handsome! Up close, this face gave him an even stronger sense of first love!

Ye Qingyun met the man’s gaze for a moment, then realized that staring at a leader was highly improper, so he lowered his head again.

“Look up,” Ye Qingyun heard the leader say. “Look at me.”

Ye Qingyun raised his head again, awkwardly meeting the leader’s eyes.

Ye Qingyun offered his elementary-school-level self-introduction, hoping to ease the awkward atmosphere: “Um… H-hello? It’s nice to meet you. My name is Ye Qingyun. I was sent here after passing that knowledge quiz.”

“…Ye Qingyun?” The leader’s voice was soft. “How long have you been called that name?”

This question was truly baffling. Ye Qingyun replied with a confused look: “Over twenty years, I’ve been called this name since birth.”

The leader narrowed his eyes, watching him, as if scrutinizing him, or perhaps restraining himself.

A moment later, Ye Qingyun saw the leader sneer: “What is your objective? If you have anything to explain, you had better say it now. Otherwise, once you reveal a flaw…”

This vague, open-ended threat left Ye Qingyun completely bewildered.

Objective? He just wanted to earn some money and secure his life. What was wrong with that?

Ye Qingyun felt a little angry: “You actively sought me out after I passed the quiz, telling me that if I came, you would give me the prize money. And now you’re threatening me? If you don’t want to pay, just say so! Can’t I just leave?”

Ye Qingyun turned to walk away, only to find that all paths around him were sealed by the black mist. He couldn’t take a single step.

What was this? Were they planning to renege on the debt and simply destroy him here to cover their tracks?

The leader watched him in silence for a long time, his expression growing more restrained and tense. Ye Qingyun didn’t know why, but for a moment, he even felt like the leader was about to embrace him and coax him not to be angry.

However, nothing happened. The leader clearly wouldn’t do something so unbelievable. He turned around, walked forward, and said coldly, “Follow me.”

Ye Qingyun was enveloped by the black mist and forced to follow. They left the meeting room and walked for a while, arriving at a study.

The study was grand and spacious, filled with books. Several unsorted documents lay on the desk.

Judging by the layout, this was likely the leader’s personal study, a place of importance and secrecy. Had he just been brought into such a place?

Ye Qingyun watched the leader sit down at the desk, take out a pen and paper, and write something.

A moment later, the leader finished writing, looked up, and said to him, “Come here.”

Ye Qingyun walked over. The leader pushed the paper toward him, and Ye Qingyun saw what was written on it.

The paper contained a problem. This problem was far more complex than the ones he had solved before, on a completely different level, requiring multiple steps of calculation rather than just guessing an option.

Ye Qingyun had never studied the knowledge of this world. Logically, he shouldn’t even be able to understand the question. Yet, as he looked at the problem, a surge of unknown confidence and ideas welled up in his heart, making him want to grab the pen and start scribbling.

“I’ll give you two minutes to solve it,” the leader, who possessed the face of his first love, stared intently at him, as if trying to capture every expression on his face. “If you can’t solve it… the place you’ll be staying won’t be here.”
