Chapter Index

Ye Qingyun waited for some time and finally received his “grand prize.”

“What did you say,” Ye Qingyun asked incredulously, “Take me to the Sovereign’s Residence to meet the Supreme Sovereign and discuss knowledge with him?”

“Yes, sir.” The neatly dressed man bowed to Ye Qingyun. “The one above is very fond of various studies. I believe he will be delighted to meet you.”

Ye Qingyun’s voice rose an octave: “This is my grand prize?”

    The man nodded affirmatively.

    Ye Qingyun: “…”

He had been duped. What kind of grand prize was this? Where was his money? Where was all that prize money?

“Sir,” perhaps sensing Ye Qingyun’s reluctance, the man added, “If you are willing to go, fifty million Star Coins will be transferred to your account immediately.”

Ye Qingyun: “…I don’t want to interact with high-ranking officials, even if there is money—”

The man: “As long as you go there, even if you do nothing, the prize money will be multiplied tenfold.”

    Ye Qingyun: “!!!”

Is this about the money! Since the interstellar management is so eager for talent, of course he must meet them, exchange knowledge and experience, and immerse himself together in the ocean of knowledge!

    ————

    Inside the Sovereign’s Residence.

The old butler put down the communicator and sighed.

After all this time, they had actually managed to find someone who could pass that quiz.

They designed this quiz initially because Gu Shenyuan liked it, and out of personal admiration, everyone else started following suit, creating numerous knowledge quizzes.

But later, they discovered that Gu Shenyuan’s mental state was extremely unstable, only easing when facing certain books. The quiz then became their means of finding someone who could hold a conversation with Gu Shenyuan.

With someone who shared his interests and could discuss them from time to time, perhaps Gu Shenyuan could reignite his desire for life?

The old butler straightened his clothes and stepped toward the door.

Although this action was done privately by them, and Gu Shenyuan was completely unaware, the butler thought Gu Shenyuan wouldn’t reject it; he should be happy.

Having someone who could research those strange books with him, and analyze doubts together when they arose, was a comforting thought. There was no reason for him to be refused.

    ————

When Gu Shenyuan heard the news, he was first stunned, and then a wave of killing intent washed over him.

“Are you… are you unhappy?” The old butler read the situation, realizing Gu Shenyuan was acting strangely, but still attempted to persuade him. “Those questions were derived from notes in a discarded draft of yours. The fact that he could answer them proves he can keep up with your pace. You…”

Gu Shenyuan didn’t speak. His gaze shifted to the book on the desk for a moment, then he closed his eyes.

    Someone… solved those questions.

Someone… understood the content written by Ye Qingyun to the same extent as him.

That person even dared to come and discuss it with him after solving the questions, challenging him to see who understood the books more deeply?

The killing intent in Gu Shenyuan’s heart intensified, screaming for him to kill this person. In this world, the one who understood Ye Qingyun best could only be him.

Gu Shenyuan knew his current mindset was extremely abnormal, but no matter how abnormal it was, no one would control him or tell him what the right thing to do was.

He was inherently a creature of darkness; benevolence never belonged to him. Slaughter and cruelty were his true nature.

In the past, to please Ye Qingyun, he chose to hide a part of his nature, but now… none of that was necessary anymore.

The old butler continued to persuade him: “With someone who understands the content he wrote, the author of the book would surely be happy too.”

    Qingyun would be happy?

Qingyun was always troubled that no one could understand what he wrote. Now that someone capable of understanding had finally appeared, if he rashly killed them, Qingyun would probably be angry with him.

This thought startled Gu Shenyuan. He forcibly suppressed the killing intent and decided to give that person a chance to live: “Tell him to scram. This is not where he belongs.”

“This…” Cold sweat trickled down the old butler’s forehead. He said nervously, “Leader, they took the X687 spacecraft to arrive as quickly as possible, and communication is temporarily unavailable during the flight. I will have them leave once they arrive. Will that be acceptable?”

Gu Shenyuan narrowed his eyes slightly. He stood up and said coldly: “No need.”

An enemy delivered right to his doorstep certainly had no reason to continue living.

    ————

Ye Qingyun sat on the high-tech spacecraft, which exceeded his imagination. He tried his best not to look too inexperienced while curiously observing everything on board.

“Sir, we will reach our destination soon,” said the man responsible for escorting Ye Qingyun to the Sovereign’s Residence. “When you meet the Leader, please try not to get too excited and maintain a certain distance from him, otherwise there might be a risk to your life.”

“Ah?” Ye Qingyun was startled. “That terrifying? There’s a risk to life so easily? I regret this. Is it too late to get off the ship now?”

The man corrected Ye Qingyun’s statement: “It’s not that there’s danger easily. As long as you don’t get too close to the Leader, and don’t harbor any improper thoughts toward him, it is very safe.”

Ye Qingyun hadn’t seen a picture of the Leader and had no idea what he looked like, so he quickly asked, just in case he accidentally committed a fatal offense.

The man was surprised that Ye Qingyun hadn’t seen a picture of Gu Shenyuan, but then he thought that perhaps it was this kind of single-minded focus, ignoring everything else, that allowed him to answer all the questions correctly.

The man opened a saved video on his terminal and projected it into the air for Ye Qingyun to watch.

In the video, there was a ruined battlefield. A building that should have been luxurious was torn apart, with corpses and blood everywhere.

A man slowly walked out of a half-collapsed palace. The setting sun illuminated half of his profile. A few drops of dark red blood were splattered on his pale cheek, making him look dangerous and cold, like the sharpest blade.

Ye Qingyun froze, staring blankly at the man.

“Sir, this is our Leader,” the man reminded him.

Ye Qingyun snapped back to reality and nodded awkwardly.

He had always considered himself not to be a looks-obsessed person, yet he was captivated the moment he saw that man.

That person was truly handsome. He had never thought about what his ideal first love face looked like, but seeing that face now, he was struck.

That Leader truly gave people the urge to fall in love with him! Was this the legendary first love face?

The man beside Ye Qingyun noticed his distraction and reminded him: “Sir, allow me to remind you not to harbor any improper thoughts toward our Leader. Those who have had improper thoughts about our Leader in the past were either driven away or killed by the Leader.”

Ye Qingyun immediately withdrew his thoughts, shivering.

This kind of thorny rose was clearly impossible for a research-focused homebody like him to pluck. It was best to just admire it quietly from the side.

    ————

The spacecraft was fast, and the planet Ye Qingyun was on was not far from the main star, so before long, Ye Qingyun could see the Sovereign’s Residence in the distance through the window.

Thinking about meeting the Leader, who seemed to suit him in every way, even though he had told himself to just admire from afar, Ye Qingyun still felt nervous, as if he were going on a blind date.

Don’t be nervous, don’t be nervous. Being nervous is useless anyway; a high-ranking and powerful Leader wouldn’t take a liking to him.

Besides… the Leader had a deeply beloved partner. Even if his partner was dead, he probably wouldn’t accept anyone else.

His poor first crush was strangled in the cradle before it could even be born!

The spacecraft stopped. Ye Qingyun tidied his appearance and followed the guiding man out.

    ————

Gu Shenyuan sat in the reception room waiting, his eyelashes lowered, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.

The old butler had followed Gu Shenyuan for some time. He hadn’t realized it before, but now he finally reacted: the faint aura surrounding Gu Shenyuan was killing intent.

A drop of cold sweat ran down the old butler’s temple. He never expected Gu Shenyuan’s possessiveness toward his deceased lover to be this strong.

It couldn’t even be described as mere strong possessiveness; it had reached a pathological level.

He suspected that Gu Shenyuan’s mental state was not far from a complete breakdown.

Faint footsteps approached. Gu Shenyuan still kept his eyes down, looking at his fingertips.

He was thinking about how to kill this person, yet he couldn’t help but think that if he did so, Ye Qingyun would be angry. The two conflicting thoughts gave him a splitting headache.

Even if Qingyun was gone, he shouldn’t make him angry.

But he had to be the only one who understood Qingyun’s research. This was… one of the few pieces of evidence he had that proved Ye Qingyun had been with him and had taught him.

Gu Shenyuan’s head hurt even more. A thin layer of black mist gathered on his fingertips, flickering and unstable.

The person had reached the doorway. Gu Shenyuan saw a tall, slender figure walking in the lead out of the corner of his eye. The person’s straight legs, the posture while walking, the entire silhouette—it was all extremely familiar to him.

    …Was he having hallucinations again?

Gu Shenyuan smiled bitterly in his heart, not immediately raising his head to look at the owner of the silhouette.

He knew that as soon as he looked directly, the silhouette would disappear, replaced by the unfamiliar figure of someone else.

Ye Qingyun would never appear again.

Gu Shenyuan slowly exhaled, finally lifting his eyes.

The person stood not far away, looking at him, their light amber eyes like the sweetest honey, making one want to kiss them.

Gu Shenyuan stared at the person. His mind buzzed, instantly going blank.

The old butler saw that Gu Shenyuan hadn’t immediately moved to kill, feeling a turning point might be at hand. He quickly stepped forward to introduce them: “Leader, this is…”

The old butler didn’t know the name of this rather handsome young man, so he winked at the youth, prompting him to introduce himself.

“Ye Qingyun,” Ye Qingyun didn’t know why, but seeing this person made him feel happy, so he smiled. “My name is Ye Qingyun.”
