Chapter Index

Ye Qingyun had just hidden the item in his bedside cabinet and put on his clothes when he heard Gu Shenyuan knock on the door.

“Are you ready?” Gu Shenyuan asked.

Ye Qingyun glanced guiltily at the hiding spot, replied “Ready,” and pulled out a tissue to wipe his hands.

He didn’t know if it was psychological, but he still felt sticky, as if his hands weren’t completely clean.

Gu Shenyuan opened the door, looked at him, and then walked into the bathroom.

Ye Qingyun’s heart jumped as he watched Gu Shenyuan’s retreating back.

Gu Shenyuan must have remembered that he hadn’t cleaned up that thing, so he specifically came back to tidy up!

Wouldn’t Gu Shenyuan then discover that he had already cleaned it?

Would Gu Shenyuan overthink things and realize that he hadn’t actually flushed the item away?

Fearing that Gu Shenyuan would suspect something, Ye Qingyun quickly took the initiative, accusing, “Hmph, you finally remembered to come back and clean up? I already finished! Do you know how I felt when I walked into the bathroom and saw that thing? No, you don’t!”

Gu Shenyuan lowered his eyes. The main reason he hadn’t cleaned it up immediately was that Ye Qingyun had fallen off the bed, and he was worried Ye Qingyun was hurt again, so he anxiously overlooked it.

But Gu Shenyuan didn’t explain, only saying softly, “My apologies.”

Ye Qingyun finished wiping his hands, tossed the damp tissue into the wastebasket, let out a loud huff, and lay back down on the bed, pulling the blanket over his head to pretend he was asleep.

Gu Shenyuan looked at the discarded tissue, a thought flashing through his mind before he quickly dismissed it. He shook his head and got into bed to rest.

Watching Ye Qingyun wipe his hands, he had a fleeting thought that Ye Qingyun might have used his hand to clean up that thing. That would explain why Ye Qingyun washed his hands and then vigorously wiped them with a tissue.

But that was impossible. His mind was simply too filthy to conjure such an idea.

He wanted to see Ye Qingyun intimately interact with something that belonged to him, he wanted to see the shy expression on Ye Qingyun’s face, and he wanted to leave his scent on Ye Qingyun.

Ultimately… he was too corrupted, to the point where even seeing a piece of paper could trigger such associations.

Ye Qingyun successfully bluffed his way through. He chose a time when Gu Shenyuan wasn’t paying attention to bring the bottle into the laboratory, placing it in a hidden corner alongside other bottles containing liquids needed for experiments.

This way, Gu Shenyuan shouldn’t discover it, right?

That day, Ye Qingyun slipped into the lab to conduct research, while Gu Shenyuan sat on a chair outside, opening his terminal and clicking on the news feed.

The news feed page displayed a large headline:

SHOCK! Mysterious Black Butterflies Appear, Destroying Several Royal Entertainment Facilities, Causing Massive Economic Loss to the Royal Family! Experts Helpless!

Mysterious Creatures Suddenly Appear—Is It an Act of God or Deliberate Human Retaliation? Click to See the Second Prince’s Incompetent Fury!

Below these news articles, the public comments showed no sympathy whatsoever.

Heh, they’re usually so arrogant, always oppressing us. They finally got taught a lesson.

Hehehe, I don’t know where those black butterflies came from, but well done!

They think they’re so great just because a few people in their family reached SS-level, treating us like trash? If you ask me, those black butterflies should fly straight to the palace and beat those despicable royals until they can’t take care of themselves!

Gu Shenyuan’s lips curved slightly as he read the comments.

Gu Shenyuan raised one hand, palm up. His Ability, resembling black mist, condensed in his palm, shifting shape until it formed several black butterflies, fluttering their wings.

Gu Shenyuan lowered his hand. The black butterflies flew out of the window, gradually soaring away until they vanished.

The black butterflies mentioned in the news were manifestations of his Ability, guided by him to nearby planets to seek out and destroy all buildings belonging exclusively to the Royal Family, burying his Ability deep underground.

If they happened to encounter members of the Royal Family, that would be even better; he wouldn’t mind giving those people a small attack.

Although this method was slower than him acting personally, the advantage was remote control. He could stay by Ye Qingyun’s side the entire time and keep Ye Qingyun out of danger.

He wanted Ye Qingyun to live the best life and achieve the most esteemed status. This wasn’t just lip service; he was actively working toward it.

The current Royal Family severely oppressed the populace. Only because they controlled core technology and had many high-level Mental Strength and Ability users within the family did the masses dare not provoke them, enduring silently and at most venting their dissatisfaction anonymously online.

By doing this, he was providing an outlet for the public’s emotions. Once he officially dealt with the Royal Family and established a new democratic star system, he would push Ye Qingyun forward, telling everyone that Ye Qingyun was the one who could command the black butterflies, that Ye Qingyun had saved them all.

If Ye Qingyun wanted to be the supreme leader, he would help Ye Qingyun seize that position and assist him from the side.

If Ye Qingyun didn’t want power and only wished to focus on his research and live a quiet life, he could accompany him.

Regardless of the choice, Ye Qingyun’s status in the eyes of the public would be elevated, and his strength would be something everyone feared. No matter where Ye Qingyun went, he would enjoy the best treatment.

Throughout this process, Ye Qingyun would remain relaxed, without any burden.

All the hardship would be borne by him alone.

Gu Shenyuan closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair. His already pale lips looked even whiter.

Even for Gu Shenyuan, manipulating his Ability over such vast distances to cause destruction was a significant burden. Furthermore, he could only control his Ability to planets that weren’t too far away; if a planet was tens of thousands of light-years away, he couldn’t reach it.

In a few days, once the surrounding planets were dealt with, he would take Ye Qingyun away from here to another planet. They would travel and simultaneously liberate the planets under the Empire’s control.

By the time Ye Qingyun had completed his tour, the arrangements would be nearly finished.

Thinking of the honor Ye Qingyun would receive, Gu Shenyuan smiled faintly, his thoughts drifting toward Ye Qingyun.

Ye Qingyun was conducting research, and he shouldn’t interrupt, so he would secretly use his Ability to take a look.

Ye Qingyun was doing an experiment, which was serious and formal. He wouldn’t stumble upon anything that would embarrass or anger Ye Qingyun, so it was fine.

Gu Shenyuan manipulated the black mist of his Ability to drift toward the laboratory. The Ability was his second pair of eyes, allowing him to see more.

The black mist seeped through the crack under the lab door, and Gu Shenyuan saw Ye Qingyun’s back as he sat.

The back was slender at the waist, held perfectly straight. His long, pale neck was bowed, forming a tempting curve. His thin earlobes, facing the strong experimental light, appeared translucent and faintly pink, like finely carved jade.

Gu Shenyuan slowly moved the black mist forward. He wanted to land on Ye Qingyun’s shoulder and get a close look at his face.

Gu Shenyuan successfully landed on Ye Qingyun’s shoulder. Ye Qingyun was oblivious, still concentrating on his research.

Gu Shenyuan glanced unintentionally at the experimental bench, about to pull his gaze back to Ye Qingyun’s face, but then his eyes froze.

    …What is that?

It wasn’t the Stone of Love on the bench; the Stone of Love was placed nearby. What was right in front of Ye Qingyun was a bottle.

The bottle was open, containing a milky white, gel-like substance. Ye Qingyun was meticulously taking some out of the bottle and placing it under the microscope for observation.

This must be some kind of gel needed for an experiment. Gu Shenyuan knew he shouldn’t overthink it, but no matter how he looked at it, this gel-like substance resembled…

The black mist had no sense of smell, so Gu Shenyuan couldn’t smell the substance, but the more he looked, the more suspicious he became.

If it really was that thing, why was Ye Qingyun studying it?

Gu Shenyuan frowned. He dispersed the black mist, his consciousness returning to his body. He stood up and silently walked toward the laboratory.

Ye Qingyun recorded his observations, writing the last stroke on the page, and sighed softly.

He realized that simply using this substance as a research subject was fine; he didn’t necessarily need hair or blood anymore.

But this presented another problem—he only had this tiny amount of resource, which probably wouldn’t be enough to complete the entire study.

But what could he do? Could he ask Gu Shenyuan to contribute another sample? Don’t be ridiculous. Such opportunities were rare; Gu Shenyuan might only do that once every ten years. The probability of him getting another sample was smaller than the sun crashing into Earth. He might as well figure out how to get some hair and blood.

Ye Qingyun pursed his lips in distress. Just as he was about to cap the bottle to continue the research tomorrow, he felt something placed on his shoulder.

Ye Qingyun turned his head and saw Gu Shenyuan standing behind him, his eyes fixed on the bottle. His tone was unreadable as he asked, “What are you researching?”

In that instant, Ye Qingyun felt his soul fly out of his body, wishing he could die on the spot!

However, dying was not an option. Ye Qingyun’s mind raced, and he countered, “Can’t you tell?”

He had used preservation methods on the sample, so even after all this time, the smell, color, and state hadn’t changed.

Since the smell hadn’t changed, Gu Shenyuan could certainly tell what it was!

Sure enough, Gu Shenyuan looked at him with dark eyes and slowly said, “It’s Essence.”

“That’s right.” Ye Qingyun had used this time to concoct a lie. He tried to sound as righteous as possible, saying, “I was researching the Stone of Love earlier and discovered a strange Element inside it. I suspect this Element is related to the legendary efficacy of the Stone of Love and also shares a similar structural organization with Essence.”

Ye Qingyun paused, then continued, “The legend says the Stone of Love can make the wearer and their lover stay in love forever. I wanted to try adding the Element from the Stone of Love into the Essence to see if anything changes, and if it really can promote love.”

Gu Shenyuan’s expression shifted subtly, appearing almost jealous. He asked in a deep voice, “Did anything change?”

Ye Qingyun was about to say no, but then he remembered the insufficient quantity of his experimental material. He tentatively said, “One person’s sample doesn’t seem to work. I suspect it requires samples from two people—the wearer and the lover—and then the Stone of Love acts upon both samples to make them love each other more.”

Gu Shenyuan tightened his grip on Ye Qingyun’s shoulder. He said softly, “You are missing one person’s sample, aren’t you?”

“Ah? You want to…” Ye Qingyun played hard to get. “Let’s forget it. No, you are too special. I’ll go find someone else.”

However, Gu Shenyuan would never allow him to use someone else’s sample. He stated a fact in a cold tone, “I will kill that person.”

Ye Qingyun remained silent, pretending to glare angrily at Gu Shenyuan. Gu Shenyuan reached out, stroked his hair, and turned to leave.

Ye Qingyun waited until Gu Shenyuan walked out, then immediately collapsed onto the desk, laughing silently.

He had actually managed to get enough research material!

    He truly was a genius!
