Chapter 4 Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence What other surprises does Noble Lan have…

Li Xun clicked on a live stream Jiang Yilan had hosted in his hotel room right after the first show of their current Concert Tour ended.

Jiang Yilan looked like he had just showered, bare-faced, his hair not completely dry, wearing a bathrobe, with a late dinner set out in front of him.

The first three minutes of the replay were almost entirely Jiang Yilan spacing out, waiting for fans to slowly join. Then he unwrapped the packaging in front of him, greeted the screen, and started eating.

“I was too hungry after showering, so I ordered some seafood noodles,” Jiang Yilan said, then lowered his head and slowly ate the noodles, occasionally glancing at the camera.

He didn’t speak for nearly ten minutes. When he was almost finished, he went to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed it, and drank about half.

The fans seemed used to it, chatting happily among themselves in the bullet comments. Jiang Yilan finished his noodles, tied up the plastic bag, and smiled at the camera.

The bullet comments exploded. Jiang Yilan maintained his smile, watched the flying comments for a while, and then started wrapping up.

“Remember to come see the next show, everyone,” Jiang Yilan waved, leaned closer to the camera, and gave the fans a wink with his magnified face. “You all eat and sleep well. See you next time, bye-bye.”

The replay ended, and Li Xun breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed he didn’t have to worry too much about the live stream exposing him.

Many idols’ live streams are purely chat-based, but his situation definitely wouldn’t allow that. He also couldn’t just sit there silently for half the stream like Jiang Yilan. He needed some actual content. Should he do a mukbang too? Li Xun wondered. What should he eat…

Before deciding on a product, he watched another five-person group live stream. Group streams were much livelier; the leader would actively cue members to speak, and with Yuan Zhiyan present to liven the atmosphere, Jiang Yilan spoke a bit more. But for the most part, he still looked too lazy to talk, occasionally throwing a flirtatious glance at the camera or looking down at his phone.

In the five-person group chat, Rong Xiao @-ed all members and listed a schedule for the live streams, asking if anyone had objections. Jiang Yilan was listed first, scheduled for the day after tomorrow in the afternoon, with the specific time to be decided by him.

    Li Xun replied: Received.

A few minutes later, Yuan Zhiyan commented: ? Seriously, amnesia??

He had never heard the word “Received” come out of the young master’s mouth before; it was extremely rare.

Rong Xiao had already informed the other members about Jiang Yilan’s amnesia, but the matter sounded like something out of a TV drama. Until they saw Jiang Yilan in person, everyone remained skeptical.

Rong Xiao: He really has amnesia. Yilan, you can ask anything you don’t know in the group.

Li Xun: Okay, thank you all for your trouble.

    Yuan Zhiyan: Holy crap.

Yuan Zhiyan was quick-witted and quick-handed: How about you just don’t recover your memory?

    Yuan Zhiyan retracted a message.

Li Xun: …I already saw it.

Rong Xiao: Let us know the general content you plan for the live stream in the group.

The live stream wasn’t until the day after tomorrow, so Li Xun decided to think about it tomorrow. For now, he needed to catch up on more of Jiang Yilan’s content.

When he opened the closet that evening, Li Xun was surprised to find a guitar.

Jiang Yilan can Play Guitar? That was unexpected. Li Xun had taught himself guitar for many years and knew how much patience learning an instrument required.

A ready-made live stream topic appeared. Jiang Yilan posted in the group: Live stream content: Play Guitar.

    Yuan Zhiyan: ?

    Rong Xiao: ?

Even Tang Ruining and Wu Xingye, who rarely appeared, slowly typed out: ?

I just found a guitar in the closet and vaguely remembered that I might have learned a little, Li Xun fabricated. I tried it out, and it seems like I have Muscle Memory.

He laughed at himself after sending the message, but it didn’t matter. His current situation meant he had to rely entirely on fabrication.

    Rong Xiao: Alright…

Li Xun spent the entire next day practicing guitar. His fingers were stiff from not having played for a while. Jiang Yilan’s hands were delicate, and his fingers hurt after playing for a bit, but Li Xun didn’t mind. This guitar was much better than the one Li Xun owned, and he enjoyed playing it.

Wei Qiyao was surprised when she saw him. “Lanlan, how are you playing so well? You only touched this guitar the first two days after you bought it, and then you put it in the closet and never took it out again.”

Li Xun froze. He had thought Jiang Yilan at least knew a little.

“I don’t know… maybe I learned from the band teacher when I was at the agency. It just came back to me when I picked it up. I don’t really remember.” His ability to casually lie was now flawless.

Wei Qiyao still found it unbelievable. She sat next to him, listening to Li Xun Play Guitar for a long time, constantly praising how good it sounded and applauding him. Fortunately, Wei Qiyao didn’t understand guitar, so she didn’t realize that Li Xun’s skill level was not something one could achieve with just a little casual practice.

On the third day, Li Xun was inevitably nervous about starting the live stream. He had never done anything like this before. After communicating with Rong Xiao via voice call beforehand to familiarize himself with the live stream process, Li Xun set up the phone dedicated to streaming, adjusted his hair in the mirror, and clicked the live stream button.

For the first few minutes, he imitated Jiang Yilan, quietly waiting for people to continuously join. As the number of viewers climbed, Li Xun stiffly waved at the camera. “Hello, everyone.”

“I’m doing this live stream mainly to let everyone know that I’m fine and not injured.”

“I was shocked too, but I’m okay, so please don’t worry.”

“Yes, I’m at home now, in my own room.”

“I’m really fine. I was dizzy for a while when I fell, but I woke up quickly.”

Li Xun maintained a smile at the phone, his face almost cramping. The more he spoke, the more likely he was to make a mistake, so he quickly cued the process. “There’s one more thing for today’s live stream. I’ve been practicing guitar recently, and I wanted to find a chance to play for you.”

He was truly bad at saying such things, so Li Xun lowered his head to pick up the guitar as he spoke, concealing his expression.

He sat a little further from the camera, held the guitar, and said gently, “Christmas is coming soon, so I want to play Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence for everyone. Please don’t mind if I don’t play well.”

His fingers touched the strings, and Li Xun lowered his head, quickly entering the zone.

He had practiced this piece for a long time, and he had played it for Li Mo last Christmas.

But he still played a few wrong notes. When the song ended, Li Xun smiled apologetically. “I missed a few notes. I still need more practice.”

The bullet comments had already gone wild. Li Xun was still sitting far away, only able to see the words on the screen flying up frantically.

Li Xun put down the guitar and walked to the table, trying to read what the comments were saying, but he really… couldn’t see clearly.

He still didn’t dare to say too much, staring blankly at the surging comments for a moment.

“The weather is getting colder, everyone remember to stay warm,” Li Xun started a safe topic. It was almost time to end.

He admitted he couldn’t yet casually wink at the camera like Jiang Yilan. At most, he could only continue to maintain a smile.

“Eat well, sleep well, live well.”

“That’s all for today. There will be live streams from other members later, so please look forward to them.”

“Bye-bye, thank you all for watching today, bye-bye.” Li Xun waved with both hands and ended the stream.

He let out a long breath, relieved that nothing had gone wrong.

What he didn’t know was that even before his live stream ended, Jiang Yilan Guitar, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and Jiang Yilan had all simultaneously shot up the trending searches.

Li Xun opened WeChat, where Yuan Zhiyan’s question marks were practically bursting through the screen.

In the past chat history, because Jiang Yilan rarely spoke, Li Xun didn’t know how he and Yuan Zhiyan used to chat.

Yuan Zhiyan was usually the most talkative in the group. Now, he fired off a barrage of questions: When did you practice guitar, in your dreams??

Holy crap, this song is so difficult.

    No?? Huh??

You’re actually not Jiang Yilan, are you? You just look like him! Tell me! Where did you hide Jiang Yilan!

    Tang Ruining: Quiet down.

    Yuan Zhiyan: Oh.

Yuan Zhiyan went to private message Jiang Yilan.

    You are so amazing!!

    Li Xun smiled.

Their chat box was empty. Li Xun guessed that Jiang Yilan never actively spoke to Yuan Zhiyan before, so Yuan Zhiyan didn’t provoke him either. But with Yuan Zhiyan’s naturally friendly personality, coupled with his completely different attitude towards Li Xun these past two days and the shock of today’s live stream, he came to chat without feeling awkward.

Thank you, Li Xun replied, starting to fabricate again: Maybe I learned it before debut, I don’t remember either.

No way, how did you get smarter from amnesia? Can I get amnesia too?

Yuan Zhiyan: Should I go hit a wall?

Li Xun: Maybe don’t. Usually, you just get dumber.

Yuan Zhiyan: Ahhh, I’m not smart to begin with!

Li Xun showed a look of fond pity.

After a while, Yuan Zhiyan said: Check the trending searches!

Li Xun opened Weibo and saw Jiang Yilan’s name on the hot search list.

The video clip of him playing the guitar had already been cut and circulated. Not only were fans surprised, but passersby were also astonished, because Jiang Yilan was notoriously bad at both singing and dancing—a beautiful failure—and videos mocking him had gone viral several times.

When To5 first debuted, Jiang Yilan’s solo teaser had the highest number of reposts and the highest discussion heat. Everyone was stunned by his face, but no one expected his skills to be so poor. Once on stage, without auto-tune or editing, his flat voice and off-beat dancing were fully exposed.

Li Xun clicked on the video and saw himself sitting on a chair holding the guitar. The afternoon sun streamed through the window. In the semi-darkness, he closed his eyes, concentrating on plucking the strings. The melodious and melancholic tune made the entire scene feel lonely.

    Is this Jiang Yilan??

Passersby, don’t rush! Let the fans scream first: HOLY SH*T!! AHHHHHH!!!

Who understands, family? When I watched the live stream and he pulled out the guitar, I thought he’d play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at most, but then??

I understand. I had “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” on the tip of my tongue and swallowed it, and my mouth hasn’t closed since ⊙O⊙

Pure passerby, did anyone see him stick out his tongue when he played the wrong note? So cute…

Pure fan, saw it, already screenshotted for repeated viewing.

What’s going on? Jiang Yilan had this skill and hid it until now? He’s such a show-off, why wouldn’t he show this off?

What does he show off? Just his face. Why don’t you show off? Is it because you don’t want to? [Surprised]

What other surprises does Noble Lan have that this Emperor doesn’t know about?

Fingers are so long prprpr, passing by to lick them up.

He played several wrong notes, and the rhythm was off. Still praising him [sweat]

A little later, Rong Xiao messaged him on WeChat: This live stream had a good effect. The agency will use this momentum to buy some more trending topics.

He added: I didn’t expect this. You really kept it hidden. I’ve never seen you touch a guitar before.

Faced with the screen full of trending topics, Li Xun choked.

    I didn’t expect it either…
