    Chapter 4

    Lian Xu hissed in pain.

“Just a biting puppy,” he muttered under his breath, but the Alpha, whose hearing was excellent, caught every word.

He Yu grasped Lian Xu’s wrist, his thumb rubbing the web of his hand. His single eye narrowed slightly, and his eyebrow arched. His icy-blue pupils, like an aurora of sheer silk, seemed capable of piercing the heart, a flash of cunning and mockery flickering in his gaze, silently teasing the Omega’s transparent little schemes.

“Who are you calling a dog?”

“Whoever asked me who I was calling a dog,” Lian Xu replied with an air of nonchalance.

He Yu gave a helpless laugh, as if he had no recourse.

The cadets lay prone on the ground, staring dumbfounded at the two figures in their extremely awkward positions. The atmosphere was charged with both intimacy and hostility, making them completely forget they were being punished on a mountaintop swept by a storm.

The instructor was pinned down, and another one of his arms had just been dislocated. This was practically trampling the dignity of an Alpha General underfoot.

With another click, the Alpha’s broken arm was effortlessly reset by the Omega straddling him. Lian Xu curled his lips into a smile, arrogant and unrestrained, looking down at the Alpha beneath him from a position of superiority.

The Empire’s Five-Star General, a battle-hardened Alpha, had been easily subdued by an Omega.

The cadets could only sigh internally: “As expected of the head of the Military Operations Group, utterly amazing!”

They didn’t know Lian Xu well, only that he was the newly appointed head of the Military Operations Group, introduced by the Commander. They had heard whispers about the Command Center, as everyone had been informed of its establishment the day before formal training, and they heard this Commander was highly influential.

But these were just rumors and superficial understandings gleaned from Confidential Documents transmitted via their Optic Computers. It was far less impressive than the lasting impression left by He Yu, the Empire’s youngest General. Thus, when they witnessed Lian Xu subduing their instructor, they were all astonished.

A few hotheads stood up and started applauding and cheering.

Lian Xu frowned slightly, realizing he might have taken things too far.

But He Yu didn’t think so. Amidst the cheers, he grabbed Lian Xu’s waist with both hands and lifted him entirely. As the space between them widened, he suddenly flung his hands, and the Omega was slammed heavily onto the ground.

Although Lian Xu was an Omega, his combat experience was no less than an Alpha’s. Seeing the tension in the opponent’s right shoulder, he knew a punch was imminent. He protected his face with his arms and rolled across the ground, dodging the opponent’s heavy, crushing blow.

As expected, the punch hit nothing but air. He Yu smiled faintly, showing no surprise, composed as if everything was under control.

He Yu knelt on one knee. Lian Xu seized the opportunity, sprang up, and kicked straight at the Alpha’s right shoulder with lightning speed. The cadets watched without blinking, yet still couldn’t clearly see how Lian Xu managed to get up from the ground and launch an attack on the instructor in such a brief moment.

But even such a lightning-fast attack could not escape the Alpha’s eyes. He Yu caught it in his peripheral vision, directly raised his hand, and grabbed the opponent’s ankle. The attack stopped abruptly less than a centimeter from his temple.

He Yu originally intended to use the momentum to stand up and press the Omega against the rock behind him, but his eyes flashed. He suddenly thought of something and stared at Lian Xu with a half-smile.

He yanked the ankle he held toward himself. Lian Xu tilted forward, falling onto He Yu. The leg he had extended for the attack landed squarely on the Alpha’s shoulder. If his flexibility hadn’t been good enough, the move might have broken his leg.

After the attack, the positions of the two changed subtly.

Lian Xu had his back to the cadets, and He Yu, kneeling on one knee, was largely obscured by him. In the unseen space, the Alpha rubbed his nose against the base of the Omega’s thigh.

The cedar scent unique to the Omega was diluted by the wind and rain, leaving only a faint dampness, which the Alpha was very displeased with. Beneath his nose was not the soft flesh he expected, but something resembling a hard leather buckle. When Lian Xu had pinned him down earlier, he had felt this uncomfortable, unknown object.

    A non-slip buckle or a leg harness?

Before he could ponder, Lian Xu’s cold voice rang out: “Let go.”

“Or do you want me to pin you to the ground again, like before?” he said with a mocking laugh. “The cadets are all watching, Instructor He.”

He Yu narrowed his eyes, undeniably tempted. Although it would be an insult to the General’s dignity, that position was exquisite, and it would give him a chance to feel what that thing on his leg was again.

But Lian Xu would never use the same trick on the same person twice, especially in such a short period.

What if one leg was restricted? He wasn’t limited to just one leg, and He Yu’s shoulder provided him with the perfect leverage.

Lian Xu’s foot on the ground moved, instantly kicking up loose stones as he launched himself into the air. The stones shot toward He Yu’s chest like a volley of sharp arrows. He dodged the stones but not the person; he was solidly kicked. Then, the Omega flipped over his head, breaking free from the restraint.

    Boom—

He Yu and Lian Xu stood one behind the other, the air between them torn by a bolt of lightning.

Lian Xu suddenly lowered his center of gravity, almost skimming the ground as he slid forward, delivering a sweeping kick that whipped toward the Alpha like a steel whip. Bone and muscle cracked audibly amidst the muffled thunder.

His eyes darkened. He didn’t dodge?

Although He Yu was nearly knocked down by the impact, the moment before he completely lost balance, he braced himself with one hand on the ground. Using his core strength, he forcibly twisted his body, and his long legs, encased in the black Military Uniform, lashed upward like a scorpion’s stinger, aiming straight for the opponent’s jaw.

Excellent soldiers can always react instantly and avoid vital points in time. The relentless, brutal training and the savagery of the battlefield had honed Lian Xu’s physical reactions to the extreme. Even if his eyes didn’t track the Alpha’s attack path and his brain couldn’t react in time, his body could instinctively dodge.

That kick was aimed to kill. He avoided the vital point, but his shoulder took the full force of the blow.

Lian Xu retreated repeatedly. Just as he managed to stabilize himself, the Alpha’s fists, like maggots clinging to bone, closed in again. Every strike targeted the temple, the solar plexus… The vibrations from blocking the blows traveled through his entire body.

The annual assessment scores at the Star Tower military base were public, and He Yu’s hand strength was well-known. Yin Zhuo’s hand strength could reach a terrifying twenty thousand, and He Yu’s was no less. The two close friends, who had faced life and death together, always competed subtly in certain areas.

The cadets were not shocked by their instructor’s precise strikes, but they were impressed by Group Leader Lian’s reaction speed and resilience.

Any strong Alpha would be grimacing and rolling after taking those few punches, yet the seemingly delicate Omega not only blocked them all but also managed to look unfazed and even mock the Alpha.

That expression, which made countless people want to hit him, seemed to be provoking the Alpha: “Is that all you’ve got?”

But He Yu didn’t take the bait. He suddenly stopped punching and tilted his head, looking at Lian Xu.

Seeing this, Lian Xu didn’t hesitate, kicking him away. With a loud thud, the giant rock behind the Alpha was shattered by his body.

Witnessing this, Lian Xu felt an indescribable sense of triumph.

You stopped fighting? Then I’ll take the chance to kick you!

“On the battlefield, any hesitation can lead to fatal danger. Being soft-hearted toward the enemy is being cruel to yourself. You must seize every possible opportunity to counterattack. Don’t think sneak attacks are shameful; the enemy will only be more shameful than you!” Lian Xu declared self-righteously.

He Yu smiled, propping himself up with his hand to stand.

“Your Group Leader Lian is right. You can’t be soft on the enemy on the battlefield.”

The cadets let out a knowing “Oh.”

One person was unconvinced, feeling that this sparring match was just a performance. Especially when the instructor attacked with his fists, the Omega only dodged or used his body and arms to block the attacks, ultimately winning by a sneak attack. What was the point of that? A real man should fight head-on.

The cadet felt increasingly restless, so he stepped forward and stated directly: “Instructor, are you putting on a show?”

He Yu looked over. It was an Alpha, so muscular that his training uniform could barely contain him.

The Alpha didn’t even glance at Lian Xu, only staring at the instructor, clearly looking down on the Omega. He was very confident in himself and felt he could have a spectacular duel with the instructor. It would certainly be better than the group leader who only dodged and relied on sneak attacks to win.

Seventeen or eighteen-year-old youths couldn’t hide their thoughts. He Yu saw through his intentions immediately and warned him: “Want to fight Group Leader Lian? You’re not qualified yet.”

The Alpha was indignant. Who said he wanted to fight the Omega?

“Instructor, I want to fight you!”

    Everyone: “…”

Oh no, here comes someone who doesn’t fear death.

Of course, many people who also thought their fight looked like acting were hoping this Alpha could have a real duel with the instructor.

But He Yu said, “What’s the point of fighting me? I can’t even beat your Group Leader Lian. If you want a challenge, challenge the strongest. Why are you, an Alpha, chickening out?”

Lian Xu’s heart skipped a beat, feeling like He Yu was defending him.

However, the cadet wasn’t wrong; there was indeed an element of acting in their fight just now. Lian Xu had suddenly felt the urge to tease He Yu and see him get flustered, but who knew the other party harbored the same intention, holding back his strength and refusing to engage him head-on. He had failed to provoke the other party into a satisfying fight.

Lian Xu felt a little regretful.

The Alpha was also stumped after hearing those words. He wanted to challenge the instructor, but the instructor wouldn’t give him the chance, instead constantly defending the Omega. He didn’t want to attack the Omega either, lest people think he was bullying him if the Omega lost. After all, he was the coach appointed by the Commander, so he had to save some face.

“Are you fighting or not? If not, continue with the push-ups. If you don’t finish before noon, you won’t eat today!” He Yu was growing impatient.

The Alpha hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly walked toward Lian Xu: “Group Leader Lian, please excuse me.”

Since the instructor had said so, he would test the Omega’s true strength. However, he was prepared to start with a simple probe. If Group Leader Lian’s skills were lacking, he would hold back his strength to avoid making the person cry and crushing their self-esteem.

He Yu saw the situation, rubbed his nose, and stepped back a few paces.

“How should we fight?” the Alpha asked.

“However you like,” Lian Xu replied calmly. “Use all your strength.”

The Alpha paused for a moment, then said, “Alright.”

When the opponent adopted an attacking stance, Lian Xu stood opposite him nonchalantly, even asking considerately, “Are you ready?”

The Alpha didn’t understand his meaning, as he had clearly already adopted an attacking stance, but out of politeness, he replied seriously, “I’m ready.”

Hearing this, Lian Xu smiled imperceptibly, his deep eyes filled with sympathy.

He actually thought highly of this cadet; he was muscular and looked strong, but it was a pity.

The Alpha gritted his teeth and quickly launched his attack. As the distance closed, Lian Xu showed no reaction.

Was he scared stiff? the Alpha thought.

But in the next second, he suddenly widened his eyes, staring at the Omega in disbelief. With a loud thud, the Alpha flew over ten meters away. Thanks to him, the only two large rocks on the mountaintop were smashed to pieces.

He sat on the ground, stunned and lifeless, his blood rushing backward, his limbs numb, and he even forgot to breathe. Only the tearing pain in his back proved he was still alive. An Alpha, strong as an ox, who had entered the Star Tower military base with the highest overall score, was actually kicked away by the seemingly delicate Omega in his eyes.

As arrogant as he had been moments ago, he was now just as miserable. Blood from his forehead rolled down his cheek, and his body felt shattered; he couldn’t even lift a finger.

    What happened?!

    The cadets looked bewildered.

How did he fly over ten meters in an instant?!

The cadets who had been looking forward to the duel clearly saw how the Alpha attacked Lian Xu, but no one saw how Lian Xu managed to kick the opponent away in the blink of an eye.

They only saw Lian Xu’s horizontal leg slowly lowering after the attack concluded.

Judging by the degree of the shattered rock, the force was terrifying.

Those who had been subtly worried about Lian Xu were now sympathizing with the Alpha who had boasted about challenging the instructor. They finally took seriously the instructor’s words.

“Damn, is that really an Omega?”

“I’d believe Group Leader Lian was an Alpha! Holy crap! That kick was terrifying!”

He Yu smiled. No one knew better than him how much immense power was hidden in Lian Xu’s easily massaged legs. Lian Xu was an extremely intelligent Omega. Knowing that his hand strength could never surpass an Alpha’s, he made excellent use of his legs.

“Well?” Lian Xu suddenly spoke, breaking the eerie silence. “Does anyone else want a challenge?”

Upon hearing this, everyone retreated, uniformly dropping to the ground to continue the push-ups they hadn’t finished.

Lian Xu nodded in satisfaction, then turned to He Yu: “Instructor He, are you not doing them because you want another fight?”

Before the other party could speak, Lian Xu continued with interest: “If you beat me, everyone’s punishment will be waived.”

This command seemed to place all the cadets’ hopes on He Yu. They actually raised their heads, looking eagerly at Instructor He Yu.

That was a punishment of two hundred one-handed push-ups!

Instructor, you can definitely win, right!

However, the cadets did not receive their light of salvation. Instead, they watched their instructor drop down like an obedient dog and begin doing textbook-perfect push-ups.

Lian Xu was still a little unconvinced and took two steps forward, but before he could make a move, He Yu whispered, “If you try anything else, I’ll pin you to the ground in front of the cadets and fiercely…”
