Chapter Index

Lian Xu was the first to react, intimately linking his arm through He Yu’s, like a married couple. However, the Omega lacked experience; his attempt to project the feeling of an old married couple came across as stiff and unnatural.

It made them look instantly like fake partners rather than soulmates who had been together for years.

He Yu’s lips curved up. He brushed his fingertips against Lian Xu’s side waist, then raised his hand to rub the top of his hair, gently removing the hand that was linked through his arm.

“Wife, let me support you.” After speaking, he turned to the white-haired man and smiled. “Forgive us, my estrus period has arrived, and I’ve been giving him a hard time these past few days.”

The white-haired man stared intently at He Yu, his gaze so intense it seemed capable of drilling a hole in his forehead. After a few seconds, his tightly furrowed brow suddenly relaxed. He said meaningfully, “That is understandable. Madam, please ensure you get enough rest.”

“The banquet is about to begin. Please follow me, both of you.”

The white-haired man was thus easily fooled and walked ahead to lead the way.

Fiya returned to her “parents’” side and walked with them toward the banquet.

As they walked, He Yu suddenly stopped. His arm tightened abruptly, pulling Lian Xu, who had walked ahead, back into his embrace. He rubbed Lian Xu’s face fiercely, then, before Lian Xu could react, quickly pecked him on the lips.

“Wife, watch your health, don’t walk so fast.” He Yu leaned against the stair railing, holding Lian Xu tightly. When the white-haired man looked back, He Yu immediately lifted his head and kissed the Omega’s throat.

The white-haired man had no interest in witnessing their intimate display and quickly turned his head away.

Lian Xu pinched the Alpha’s thigh in front of him, twisting it. “Don’t suddenly go crazy.”

He Yu, however, said plaintively, “My estrus period really has arrived this time.”

    ?!

    Lian Xu’s pupils trembled slightly.

    Why now, of all times?!

“Hold on for a bit. I’ll get the item and then we’ll leave.”

The corners of He Yu’s eyes were slightly red. He gripped Lian Xu’s arm tightly, preventing him from moving, and his breathing gradually grew ragged. “What item?”

“The laboratory key. Fiya said the base leader carries it with him.” Lian Xu pressed close to He Yu so no one would overhear, the two of them practically inseparable.

“How are we going to get it? We can’t even get close,” He Yu asked.

There was always a way, but it required a small sacrifice.

Lian Xu did not share his plan, only telling He Yu to endure it a little longer.

He Yu held Lian Xu’s waist, his hot breath fanning the top of the Omega’s head. The scent gland beneath the inhibitor patch was swollen into a small lump.

The banquet hall was filling up. Lian Xu urged He Yu to hurry up and get moving. But the Alpha was deaf to his pleas; at this moment, his eyes only saw the bewildered Omega in his arms.

    “Wife…”

He Yu felt a knot in his chest. He was intimately calling Lian Xu his wife here, yet the Omega already had someone else in his heart, willing to do anything to marry the Prime Minister of the Inner Cabinet. Sometimes, he couldn’t help but wonder what Lian Xu liked about Yin Zhuo—was it the supreme power, or something else?

He could never grasp the other person’s preferences, nor could he grasp his heart.

“He Yu, calm down!” Lian Xu was pressed against the Alpha’s firm chest, unable to move.

He Yu’s palm rubbed repeatedly against Lian Xu’s lower back. In plain sight, the two embraced tightly, and the Alpha’s pheromones uncontrollably poured out, thoroughly drenching the Omega.

“Stop… not here.” Lian Xu whispered.

He had never seen He Yu during his estrus period and hadn’t expected him to be so difficult to control. His shoulder was clamped in the embrace, the bones feeling close to breaking. A burning heat transferred to him through their bodies, scorching him from the outside in toward his heart. Although an inhibitor patch was clearly on his neck, it felt as though it was being drenched with the condensed nectar of white camellia, forcibly infused.

More and more people gathered around, their voices rising and falling in conversation. He Yu heard nothing, pressing Lian Xu down firmly. His remaining rationality allowed him to grab the Omega’s wrist and drag him into an empty but secluded room. The door was slammed shut, the darkness cutting off all external noise.

The Alpha’s powerful physique pressed the Omega to the floor. White camellia continuously poured in, tightly enveloping the cedarwood. Clothes were disheveled, breathing was heavy. In the dim room, it was unclear who started it, but pheromones burst forth in the room, accompanied by a forceful kiss.

“He Yu… calm down…” Lian Xu’s words were drowned out by the wet kiss.

The Omega felt like he was drowning, unable to breathe, struggling weakly.

“Wife… Wife!” He Yu gripped Lian Xu’s thigh, anxious as a cat on a hot tin roof. His tongue swept through Lian Xu’s mouth, and he thrust chaotically through the scattered clothing. “Don’t marry him, okay?”

He remembered He Yu saying he shouldn’t marry Yin Zhuo more than once.

But each time, it was mixed with a joking tone that made him uncomfortable.

Was He Yu merely acting on a whim, or did he have an ulterior motive? Lian Xu didn’t know any of it, nor did he dare to guess. The road ahead was uncertain; he didn’t even know if he could leave alive and well.

How could he dare to casually reward an irrelevant life?

He should have cut off all unrealistic thoughts in that explosion.

    But humans are selfish.

Regret consumed his heart, and nightmares accompanied every difficult night. When he saw He Yu appear before him, completely unharmed, he instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

The Alpha had survived the explosion, but the Alpha who had praised his beauty and vowed to marry him had long forgotten his promise.

That was fine, Lian Xu thought. He could do what he wanted without any burden, heading toward death without ties.

Yet, even this small selfish wish couldn’t be fulfilled. The Alpha had inexplicably taken an interest in him. Approaching him, provoking him, cherishing him.

Lian Xu, unable to distinguish between pretense and sincerity, became lost in the repeated calls of “baby.”

Lian Xu grabbed He Yu’s shoulders, flipped over, and pinned him underneath. He guided the Alpha’s hand into his body, releasing pheromones that could soothe the agitation.

“He Yu, calm down. At least don’t cause trouble now. When we get back, I promise I’ll agree to whatever you want to do.”

He coaxed the Alpha to calm down.

The two highly compatible pheromones successfully merged, and the Alpha was noticeably less frantic than before. He Yu’s movements gradually slowed, gently and slowly rubbing the Omega’s lower abdomen. His eyes had not yet regained clarity, relying entirely on muscle memory to thrust the Omega into a state of suspended pleasure, leaving him drenched in sweat.

Lian Xu stroked the Alpha’s cheek, tracing the contours of his features, his tone carrying a sense of reckless abandon. “If you dare to mess with me again, I’ll make sure you and Yin Zhuo die together!”

“Wife…” He Yu called out plaintively. “Don’t leave.”

Lian Xu suddenly rose with cold eyes, picked up his clothes, and put them on. He searched the Alpha and found two inhibitor patches, applying them both.

“Don’t come out until you’ve recovered.”

With that, Lian Xu slammed the door and left. The Alpha was left lying on the floor, his mind a haze. It felt like a long, beautiful dream, where he and Lian Xu merged into one, their pheromones intertwined, intimately connected. He smiled wryly. It was beautiful indeed, but unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to last until the end.

When Lian Xu emerged, Fiya was standing obediently by the door.

    “Brother Lian Xu.”

Lian Xu was startled. “Fiya, why are you here?”

“I was afraid someone might come, so I stood guard here. How is that brother?”

“He’s fine.” Lian Xu suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

It was all He Yu’s fault; he had completely forgotten about Fiya. This was hardly a good example; what if he led Fiya astray?

Lian Xu rubbed the top of Fiya’s head, praising her. “You did well. Thank you, Fiya.”

Fiya smiled shyly after being praised.

It had been a long time since anyone had complimented her.

    “Brother, the leader is coming.”

    “The leader?”

Fiya nodded. “He’s the person in charge of the base, and he’s also the leader of the Barren Star.”

Lian Xu understood. He glanced at the closed room and led Fiya away.

Everyone gathered together to celebrate the successful development of the recovery serum.

“This is wonderful! With this serum, those people in the test tubes can wake up!”

“This is all thanks to the leader!”

    Everyone knelt before the leader.

The leader sat on the high platform, looking down at the base members who were subservient to him. Suddenly, he noticed two unfamiliar faces standing tall among the crowd.

The leader beckoned with a finger. “Who are you two?”

“Who are you?” Everyone turned their heads, staring at Lian Xu and Fiya with dull, black eyes.

Fiya tilted her head and said, “I’m Fiya. Doesn’t Leader Uncle remember me?”

    Hearing this, everyone’s eyes widened.

    “Fiya! You’re not dead?!”

The leader was also stunned. He stepped down from the high platform and scrutinized Fiya. His expression suddenly tightened. “You are Fiya!”

“Then you are…” The leader looked at Lian Xu. “Doctor!”

    “Dr. Fu, you’re alive too!”

    Lian Xu narrowed his eyes.

The person in front of him gave him a very strange feeling. His eyes, his tone of voice, and his body language all had an unsettling sense of dissonance. Before this, the only thing that had made him so uneasy was the walking corpse that had clawed his shoulder.

Fiya grabbed Lian Xu’s small hand excitedly. “Dad, let’s go. The leader is very much looking forward to seeing you!”

    Looking forward?

Lian Xu questioned her with his eyes.

Fiya nodded. “Dad, did you forget? You were the one who researched the recovery serum!”

    Lian Xu: “…”

Fiya’s palm had been cold at first, but now it was very warm. Lian Xu closed his eyes, momentarily disoriented. He remembered… he remembered coming to the Barren Star for a mission.

    What was the mission…

“Dad, let’s hurry. Everyone is waiting for you!”

Lian Xu stared blankly at Fiya, finding the child in front of him strangely familiar. “Okay… okay…”

His reaction was slow, but it didn’t prevent Fiya from leading him into a secret laboratory. A line of people, including the leader, watched them from behind.

“Doctor! Are you going to show us now?”

“Doctor, you truly are the greatest human on the Barren Star!”

“Thanks to the Doctor, we are saved!”

    “Doctor… Doctor…”

    Boom—

    The base shook violently.

The base was buried underground, so such a large movement could only mean something was happening on the surface. But they were at a critical juncture, and no one went out to investigate what was going on.

Fiya frowned, holding the Omega who was lying flat on a bed surrounded by countless instruments.

“Dad, we will never be separated again.”

    Dad… who was that?

Lian Xu’s eyes were vacant, staring straight at the ceiling.

“Dad, I want to be like you when I grow up, the most amazing soldier, protecting the planet!”

A man whose face was indistinguishable smiled kindly. “Good. Our Lian Xu will definitely be the most outstanding soldier in the future!”

“The child is still young, why are you telling him all this?” the woman complained.

The man disagreed with his wife. “A qualified soldier must be trained from childhood! Our Lian Xu is the best. He will definitely be better than me, stronger than that little waste.”

In the dark corner, a scrawny boy knelt on the ground, picking up dirty food and swallowing it in large mouthfuls…

“Dad, those are all nightmares. Don’t think about them.” Fiya placed her palm on Lian Xu’s forehead. “Dad and I are the real family. They are the bad people in the dream.”

    Lian Xu murmured, “Bad people…”

    Boom—

    Another loud noise.

The quiet, unremarkable Barren Star seemed to be running into trouble today, with loud noises following one after another. Fiya frowned severely, tightening her grip on Lian Xu’s hand. She ordered the people nearby, “Go up and see. If anyone is causing trouble, kill them.”
