    Chapter 8 1.7 Main Plot.

Before Gou Xue could even look at the shimmering options, he heard the man say in a deep voice, “Follow me.”

The man grabbed Gou Xue and pulled him into a side corridor. The sound of prison guards’ boots hitting the floor drew closer, pausing for a moment in front of Gou Xue’s solitary confinement cell. Gou Xue’s heart leaped into his throat as he heard the man beside him whisper slowly, “I see you have a rare talent, so I’ve decided to teach you the ultimate secret method!”

Gou Xue’s brain momentarily stalled. “Huh?”

“Huh my ass! Come here!” The man yanked Gou Xue to the other end of the corridor, his pace quickening. “Do you know what happens to those who escape solitary confinement?”

Gou Xue finally snapped out of it, his face turning pale. He asked cautiously, “What… what is it?”

“People like us have no hope of getting out. We’re hard to manage, so once you break the rules, there’s only one outcome.”

Gou Xue’s throat bobbed as he stammered, “What outcome?”

    “Execution.”

As soon as the word left his mouth, the alarm lights throughout the corridor behind them flared to life. It was as if the guards were out in full force, the sound of their rhythmic footsteps echoing and amplifying in the hallway. A buzzer wailed, and a guard could be heard shouting, “A rat has escaped!”

Gou Xue was on the verge of tears. He stammered, “Book-book-book-book-book-book! What happens to me if I die?!”

Before the book could respond, the man beside him gave him a strange look. “If you’re dead, you’re dead. What else could happen?” The man’s footsteps suddenly stopped. “However, there is one exception.”

Gou Xue thought to himself, what kind of time is this to be progressing the plot? With no one to lead the way and no idea where to run, he could only sniffle pathetically and ask, “Who… who is it?”

The man stared at Gou Xue for a moment and said, “Do you know the Thirteen Iron Rules?”

The number sounded familiar. Gou Xue remembered what Ji Zai hadn’t finished saying earlier. He nodded and then shook his head. “Don’t mess with the prison guards, don’t mess with Raptor…”

“Rule number one is: don’t mess with Leopard.”

Gou Xue almost wanted to complain about whether this was a zoo or what. He looked nervously behind him; the chaotic footsteps seemed to be getting closer.

“…Who is Leopard?” Gou Xue asked nervously. The man immediately stared at him with a strange, meaningful look in his eyes. “No one dares speak Leopard’s real name. Since you want to know so badly, ask him yourself. Though if you do, you won’t live to tell about it.”

“…” Gou Xue really wanted to complain about the author’s world-building. He regained his composure and said, “What does this have to do with my solitary confinement?”

“What does it have to do with it? Leopard is the only person who ever escaped solitary confinement and lived. Do you know how long he was locked in there back then?”

“How… how long?” A flash of realization hit Gou Xue as he remembered the row of tally marks on the wall.

“A full thirty days.” The man pulled out the lighter Gou Xue had gifted him and lit a cigarette he’d produced from somewhere, making Gou Xue really want to strip his pants off to see just how many things he was hiding in there.

“No one here has any hope of leaving this place alive. Do you think those Crows see you as human? Leopard is still alive because he has people in high places; he’ll likely be getting out soon. Once he’s out, anyone who dared to offend him in here is finished.”

Gou Xue’s eyes widened. Seeing that Gou Xue had finally caught on, the man nodded and said, “So in this place, you can mess with the Crows or Raptor, but never mess with Leopard. By the same token, if you want to stay alive, find Leopard—”

The man suddenly threw open a door behind Gou Xue and shoved him inside. As soon as Gou Xue entered, he realized—it was all pixelated!!!

    Little Book suddenly jumped out:

Gou Xue perked up his ears.

    “@#R#!%…^%^&$!”

“…” Gou Xue kicked the iron door hard, howling in pain. “Again?!”
