    Chapter 10: 1.9 Dangerous Goods.

Gou Xue remained silent, and the options on the little book showed no reaction. The woman with the peony tattoo across from him stayed frozen in one position, as if the game had lost its connection.

Gou Xue couldn’t take it anymore and asked, “What special means?”

Peony Tattoo moved. “Help us handle a big deal.”

Gou Xue’s heart skipped a beat. This time, the readers weren’t playing by the rules! They actually didn’t choose the belly dance! Overjoyed, Gou Xue quickly asked, “What big deal?”

Peony Tattoo glanced at him and said, “Assemble first. Remember, you are Number 483.”

Gou Xue was grabbed by Peony Tattoo and shoved into the formation. The female prison guard began calling out numbers one by one. Gou Xue kept his head down, staring intently at the ground. When the guard passed by him, her footsteps stopped. She asked, “What number are you?”

Gou Xue was instantly stunned. He was wearing female prisoner clothes, but his face and voice were those of a man! Wouldn’t he be exposed the moment he spoke?

At that moment, Peony Tattoo gave a look to the female prisoner behind Gou Xue. That prisoner immediately said, “Officer, she is Number 483. She’s new and can’t speak.”

Gou Xue hurriedly kept his face down and nodded.

The guard looked at him suspiciously for a moment but said nothing more, continuing to call out the rest of the numbers.

Gou Xue broke into a cold sweat. Only when the guard announced dismissal did he let out a sharp sigh of relief. Peony Tattoo gave him a look, and he followed her to the exercise yard.

“You’re new. Do you know the rules?”

“What rules?” Gou Xue blinked, then realized. “The Thirteen Iron Rules?”

“Hmph,” Peony Tattoo sneered. “Those are the rules for the male prisoners. Over there, the first rule is not to provoke Leopard. Here, there is only one rule—everyone listens to me.”

Gou Xue’s throat bobbed. “Yes, Your Majesty. Right away, Your Majesty.”

Peony Tattoo: “…You certainly have a sweet tongue.” She tilted her head toward the guard watching from the corner of the wall and said, “See what she has in her hand?”

Gou Xue followed her gaze, squinting hard before he could vaguely make it out. “—Cigarettes?”

“Correct.” Peony Tattoo leaned against the wall and pulled a cigarette out from somewhere in her chest area. “In here, although you have nothing but a broken bed, certain things can still circulate in the shadows. Like cigarettes, matches, alcohol… do you know where these things come from?”

“Where from?” Gou Xue knew his only job was to play the straight man.

“Where else could they come from?” Peony Tattoo gestured toward the guard again.

“Huh? The guards give you cigarettes?”

“They have to be traded for, of course.” Peony Tattoo turned to stare at him. “It’s easier for female prisoners to trade things than for the men. So, we do business with the veterans, and we also do business with the male prisoners.”

“Why is it easier for female—” Gou Xue was about to ask when he suddenly realized.

Peony Tattoo smiled slowly. “We do business with the male prisoners, but only when our people can go up there. That is also your only way to get up.”

Gou Xue’s heart instantly turned cold as water.

“Or perhaps you’d prefer to stay in the female prison for the rest of your life,” Peony Tattoo’s smile remained unchanged. “Having a man here is quite convenient. The sisters always get a bit tired of just using their hands.” Peony Tattoo looked around, and countless gazes immediately locked onto Gou Xue. Gou Xue felt his kidneys go weak, and he frantically waved his hands in terror. “No, no, my kidney function isn’t very good…”

“Then are you going to do this deal or not?” Peony Tattoo stared at Gou Xue and tucked the cigarette back. Gou Xue felt a wave of misery. “—I’ll do it! But… how?”

Peony Tattoo glanced at a guard approaching them, grabbed Gou Xue’s arm, turned around, and walked toward the other side of the yard. She whispered, “Every month, a few sisters go up, each with their own mission. Some bring goods back, and some stay in the male prison for a while to exchange goods. The more people who go up, the more things we can trade for. This month, some big shots are coming from outside. The veterans want more people, but very few come back. Do you know why?”

“Why?” Gou Xue was very supportive.

“The big shot’s identity isn’t simple. The news has been suppressed,” Peony Tattoo said.

“They… they don’t come back… then where did they go?” Gou Xue asked tremulously.

Peony Tattoo’s smile vanished, and her eyes turned cold. “Where else could they go? They’re dead.”

Gou Xue: “…” Damn! This is even harder to do!

“Not everyone can get close to the big shots,” Peony Tattoo’s tone softened again. “If you’re clever, you might be able to blend in and get up there. However, once you go up, you definitely won’t be coming back down. I only have one thing I need you to carry.”

“W-what…” Gou Xue had a very ominous premonition.

Peony Tattoo put her arm around his shoulder and led him into the bathroom. This was Gou Xue’s first time in a women’s restroom, and he felt quite embarrassed.

Peony Tattoo shoved him into a stall. The stall had no door, but it had partitions on both sides. Peony Tattoo watched the outside while reaching into her chest.

Gou Xue: “…” Why do these people hide things in such strange places!

Just as Peony Tattoo was about to pull the item out, the little white book suddenly jumped out. As soon as that white light flashed, Gou Xue knew things were going south.
