A Disabled Alpha’S Guide To Being Loved Chapter 6
byChapter 6 Leakage is not a big deal
Wei Zhi noticed Cheng Cheng still clutching the marriage certificate in a daze, his fingertips unconsciously stroking the three gold-embossed words. He turned back and called out softly, “Cheng Cheng, it is time to go.”
“Coming!” Cheng Cheng snapped back to his senses. He quickly tucked the document into his inner pocket and jogged to catch up with Wei Zhi, his gaze sweeping across the hall of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
A moment ago, there had been a few couples scattered about, but now the place was empty. Even the staff members were nowhere to be seen. He could not help but wonder, “Does the Civil Affairs Bureau close this early today?”
“It is not closing time.” Wei Zhi raised an eyebrow, his tone carrying a hint of the familiarity from his days as a big star. “I had Secretary He give them a heads-up to have everyone step away for a moment.”
Hearing this, Cheng Cheng immediately pulled a folded mask out of his canvas bag and handed it over. “Then you should put this on quickly once we go out, so you do not get recognized.”
Wei Zhi took it and unfolded it. It was one of Cheng Cheng’s disposable masks. When his fingertips brushed against the yellow sponge pattern on the fabric, he could not help but curl his lips into a smile. “Cheng Cheng, you are quite young at heart.”
As he spoke, he deftly put it on, leaving only his smiling eyes visible. He blinked at Cheng Cheng. “How is it? Do I still stand out?”
The yellow sponge cartoon character did not quite match the perfect upper half of Wei Zhi’s face.
The round eyes of the cartoon pattern sat right next to his well-defined features; no matter how one looked at it, there was a sense of comical contrast.
Cheng Cheng stared at the grinning SpongeBob, suppressed a laugh, and merely gave a dry tug at the corners of his mouth.
On the drive back, to prevent Wei Zhi’s weak legs from swaying, Cheng Cheng sat directly next to him, letting Wei Zhi’s legs rest against his own.
“Cheng Cheng, you are very proactive.” Wei Zhi touched the spot where his knee pressed against Cheng Cheng’s.
Cheng Cheng did not dare move his hands, keeping them folded neatly on his lap while the tips of his ears quietly turned red.
Relieved of the burden of supporting his legs, Wei Zhi took out a tablet to handle work. His fingertips slid rapidly across the screen as he occasionally gave instructions to Secretary He, who was driving. “Secretary He, organize this month’s video data summary as soon as possible. Also, give me the script for the documentary progress we discussed in the last meeting. I need to review everything.”
“Understood, sir. Yesterday, the brand sponsor suggested a livestream-style product placement. This differs from our expectations. When would it be convenient for you to communicate with them?”
“A video conference will do. You set the time.” Wei Zhi did not even look up.
“But the other party said… they want to meet in person,” Secretary He paused and added.
Wei Zhi was not surprised, though his finger movements slowed slightly. “Fine. Try to schedule it for noon.”
“No problem! I will coordinate that right away.” Secretary He’s voice sounded noticeably lighter.
After finishing with the data, Wei Zhi turned his gaze toward Cheng Cheng.
The younger man was holding his phone, playing a simple puzzle game. There was a visible crack in the corner of the screen, and even the touch controls seemed to lag occasionally.
“Did I not say the phone could be reimbursed? Why haven’t you replaced it yet?” Wei Zhi pointed at the crack.
Cheng Cheng rubbed the phone case, which had been polished shiny from use. He whispered, “It actually still works… I have used it for five years, so I am a bit attached to it.”
Wei Zhi was amused by how much he treasured the device. “You don’t happen to put it by your pillow and sleep with it every night, do you?”
Having his secret poked at, Cheng Cheng sighed. “Alright, alright, it really is time for a change. I will buy one now.”
Seeing him open a shopping app, Wei Zhi leaned over to offer advice. “Choose this brand. It is durable and has enough memory. It will be convenient for you to save photos and videos…”
Cheng Cheng’s finger paused, but he ultimately swiped away from that recommendation page. “I am used to the domestic operating system. Switching would be a hassle.”
“Fine then.” Seeing that Cheng Cheng really didn’t choose his recommendation, Wei Zhi’s interest waned, and he turned to look out the window.
The sky gradually darkened, and streetlights flickered on one by one. The rush hour traffic began to congest, and even the air seemed to carry the scent of evening life.
“By the way,” Wei Zhi suddenly spoke up. “You just arrived in Pujiang, so you probably haven’t tried the local specialties yet? Tell Auntie Lan not to cook today. We will eat out tonight.”
“Great!” Cheng Cheng’s eyes lit up. He had been wanting to taste the flavors of Pujiang for a while.
Wei Zhi then invited Secretary He. “Secretary He, if you have nothing else tonight, join us.”
Secretary He, driving the car, felt flattered but surprised. “Sir, there is no need! My girlfriend is waiting for me… I will call a driver to come and take you home later.”
Wei Zhi suddenly perked up, his tone full of gossip. “A girlfriend? How come I have never heard you mention her? Didn’t you say you were single when you applied? How long have you been dating?” He showed no regard for his subordinate’s privacy.
Cheng Cheng also hadn’t expected Wei Zhi, as a boss, to be so fond of gossip. He quietly pricked up his ears, even forgetting to tap on his mobile game.
Secretary He’s voice carried a hint of embarrassed pride. “Over a year. She was still a PhD student back then. Our company had a collaborative project with South China University. When I went to coordinate, I was looking for her supervisor… and that is how we met.”
“Not bad. You really know how to seize an opportunity.” Wei Zhi laughed.
“Not at all, I have to thank you for giving me the opportunity,” Secretary He said quickly.
Having heard enough gossip, Wei Zhi leaned back against the seat contentedly. He opened a review app and pulled Cheng Cheng over to look. “Cheng Cheng, look at this place. It has the highest rating for Benbang cuisine. How about it?”
Since he didn’t have to pay, Cheng Cheng nodded. “Anything is fine.”
Wei Zhi sent the location to Secretary He and began to close his eyes to rest. He hadn’t taken a nap today, and after sitting in the car for so long, his body felt a bit sore and aching.
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the restaurant. Wei Zhi hadn’t fully woken up yet, and his eyes were a bit hazy. Cheng Cheng pushed the wheelchair, following the waiter into a private room.
“You look at the menu. Order whatever you want to eat; it is on me.” Wei Zhi handed the menu over.
Cheng Cheng opened the menu and couldn’t help but click his tongue at the prices. He still ordered a few light dishes according to Wei Zhi’s taste and added a plate of braised fish in brown sauce that he liked.
The food arrived quickly, steaming hot. As soon as the braised fish was served, a sweet and fresh aroma wafted through the air.
Cheng Cheng ate with great enthusiasm, but when he looked up, he saw Wei Zhi only holding a spoon, sipping soup half-heartedly and only tasting a bite or two of each dish.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, Cheng Cheng stopped his chopsticks. “Wei Zhi, do you feel anything?”
Wei Zhi looked up blankly. “What?”
Cheng Cheng wiped his mouth and said seriously, “Peeing. Usually, you have to pee after waking up from a nap, but you didn’t today.”
Wei Zhi’s hand jerked, and the spoon fell into the bowl with a clang. He stiffly lowered his head, his gaze falling on his beige trousers. A dark water stain had indeed already soaked through.
Just as Cheng Cheng was about to get up and go over, he heard Wei Zhi’s voice tighten as he whispered, “Cheng Cheng, do not come over.”
In truth, he would go to the bathroom if he felt even a slight urge, but he was slower than most people. He could still urinate voluntarily; he only experienced incontinence when his body was exhausted or in poor condition.
In the past, he would wear adult diapers when going out, but today… he really hadn’t wanted to wear such a thing to get his marriage certificate.
Now look at him. During the very first meal after getting married, he had leaked. Wei Zhi’s fingertips turned white from gripping so hard.
Cheng Cheng, however, did not panic. He took a sealed bag out of his backpack, which contained a disposable catheter. “This is very normal. The fact that you leaked now means there is still urine in your bladder. If we do not drain it, it will leak even worse later, which is bad for your bladder and kidneys.”
Wei Zhi stared at the catheter, his eyes full of shock. “How do you have that with you?”
“I saw them when I was cleaning the bathroom today. I thought they might come in handy, so I just tucked them into my bag.” Cheng Cheng scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
When he used to go out with his mother, his bag was always stocked with diapers. Today, he had originally wanted to bring diapers too, but he had never seen Wei Zhi wear them and figured he wouldn’t be used to it, so he brought the catheters instead.
Wei Zhi was somewhat speechless and didn’t want to look at the catheter.
Cheng Cheng comforted him. “It is okay. It is just for occasional use. Tomorrow you will be able to pee on your own again. Later, when the driver comes, we will have him bring a pair of pants to change into. No one will know you leaked.”
Wei Zhi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He wanted to say something, but it remained stuck in his throat. Those words that made him feel so ashamed he wanted to disappear sounded as ordinary as saying “it is time to drink water” when they came out of Cheng Cheng’s mouth.
He remained silent for a few seconds before nodding gently.
“Then I will push you to the bathroom. Can you do it yourself?” Cheng Cheng asked.
Wei Zhi said in a muffled voice, “I can.”
Cheng Cheng stood at the bathroom door and waited until Wei Zhi pushed his wheelchair out before they returned to the private room together.
After this ordeal, Wei Zhi had completely lost his appetite, but Cheng Cheng was still eating heartily. He had handled incontinence countless times for his mother; as long as it wasn’t a bowel movement in the pants, it wasn’t considered much trouble.
Seeing Wei Zhi just staring at his phone in a daze, Cheng Cheng persuaded him, “Brother Wei, eat a bit more, otherwise you won’t have the strength for your rehabilitation exercises tonight.”
Wei Zhi forced himself to eat half a bowl of fried rice before pushing the bowl away. “I really cannot eat anymore.”
Appetite of a bird, Cheng Cheng grumbled secretly in his heart, but he didn’t say it aloud. He just packed up the things. “The driver is here. I will go get the pants. You wait here for me.”
After another round of fussing, Wei Zhi changed into clean pants, his entire being radiating exhaustion. On the drive back, he leaned against Cheng Cheng’s shoulder and fell asleep within moments.
Cheng Cheng was 175 centimeters tall, half a head shorter than Wei Zhi, but he still tried his best to sit up straight so Wei Zhi could lean comfortably. By the time they reached home, half of his shoulder was so numb he had lost all sensation.
“You should have woken me up.” Wei Zhi looked at him rubbing his shoulder, feeling a bit guilty.
Cheng Cheng waved his hand quickly. “It is fine, it is fine.” But in his heart, he thought, how would I dare wake up the boss?
Life in Pujiang was simple but passed quickly. As the Monday morning light slowly drifted into the living room, Wei Zhi had already changed into a suit.
He had to discuss a partnership with a sponsor at noon today, so he decided to head to the office early to handle some loose ends. Before leaving, he gave both Cheng Cheng and Auntie Lan the day off. “I will be back late tonight. No need to prepare lunch or dinner.”
Cheng Cheng looked at the faint shadows under his eyes and his face, which was paler than usual. Remembering how exhausted he had been when he fell asleep in the car a few days ago, the words “come back early” that were on the tip of his tongue were swallowed back down.
Secretary He had already arrived and hurriedly pushed Wei Zhi out the door.
Once Wei Zhi was gone, Auntie Lan couldn’t stay idle either. She pulled Cheng Cheng along to clean Unit 1102.
Both were quick and efficient. The three-story duplex was cleaned until the windows were bright and the floors were spotless in less than two hours. Even the wood grain on the staircase handrails gleamed.
Cheng Cheng went back to his small secondary bedroom to catch up on sleep. Just as he curled into the quilt and was about to drift off, his phone rang.
He grabbed his phone and looked; the name Xu Zhiping was jumping on the screen.
“Hello, Zhiping!”
