Chapter Index

Hearing Wēn Sòng proactively mention last night’s events and offer a sincere apology, Guān Suī instantly understood that the other party wanted to distance himself, thus taking all the blame onto himself.

If it were anyone else, they would probably let it go.

    But—

“You don’t plan on taking responsibility, do you?” Guān Suī stood by the bed, looking down at Wēn Sòng.

A Top-Tier Alpha was asking a Beta to take responsibility.

Wēn Sòng was stunned for a moment before recovering.

“How do you want me to take responsibility?”

Guān Suī knew about his relationship with Zhào Míngzhuó; they were particularly close brothers.

Last night’s intimate exchange was already a moral transgression, even though Wēn Sòng knew that the relationship between him and Zhào Míngzhuó was never about who owed whom, but rather a transaction from beginning to end.

When he first arrived in Suicheng and was being difficult at the Wēn family banquet, Zhào Míngzhuó stepped forward. Although Wēn Sòng didn’t know why the other party suggested dating, since Zhào Míngzhuó was willing to be his support in Suicheng and offer help, he naturally didn’t refuse.

After agreeing, Wēn Sòng diligently played the role of Zhào Míngzhuó’s official boyfriend every day.

Holding that title meant he had to honestly fulfill the duties of a boyfriend. After all, Zhào Míngzhuó simply wanted to date him, giving him everything he needed. The occasional thoughtfulness and deep affection made it seem like he genuinely liked him.

    But—

Several times, he sensed that the other person seemed to be looking through his face, reminiscing about someone else.

Wēn Sòng would never harbor genuine feelings for Zhào Míngzhuó.

“Maintain this relationship,” Guān Suī said.

Wēn Sòng thought he had misheard. He frowned and asked, “What did you say?”

Guān Suī walked over to the computer desk nearby, retrieved the documents he had prepared beforehand, returned to the bedside, placed the papers in front of Wēn Sòng, and began speaking, “The things you need, I can give them to you too, not just Zhào Míngzhuó.”

Wēn Sòng felt as if someone had lightly choked his heart.

He lowered his head and carefully examined the few pages Guān Suī handed him.

—It was a hospital team report and information regarding Alpha Pheromones.

“What are these?” Wēn Sòng vaguely guessed Guān Suī’s intention.

His grandmother’s treatment was currently stalled. Several hospitals had informed him that she needed better conditioning and could not undergo surgery rashly. He knew that the hospitals’ technical expertise was limited, and complex diseases carried too great a risk. Therefore, a more specialized team was needed to take over to ensure the surgery could proceed faster and achieve a sixty percent success rate.

But time waits for no one.

This was the dilemma Wēn Sòng currently faced.

The day before, his grandmother’s attending physician had spoken to him, saying that her current physical condition did not support surgery, and if her condition worsened, there would be no way to alleviate it, unless they sought a doctor with greater certainty.

However, improvements in equipment, medication, chemotherapy, hospitalization, drugs, and surgery would cost at least ten times more than standard procedures.

The Wēn family would not support it, and Zhào Míngzhuó certainly wouldn’t spend that much money.

“I’ve looked into your grandmother’s condition. You don’t need to worry about the surgery,” Guān Suī said. “I have a more professional team handling this disease, and I will cover all the expenses.”

    “As for Alpha Pheromones—”

“To show my sincerity, I want to tell you that my situation is special.”

“You are a Beta, which is just right for me during my Rut Period.”

Wēn Sòng’s fingers unconsciously curled, wrinkling the corner of the paper. “I’m not the only Beta in this world.”

“What we are doing is wrong.”

Guān Suī leaned down, the corners of his lips curving up. “What’s wrong about it?”

    Wēn Sòng: “…………”

    “Everything is wrong.”

Morally, he felt torn apart by a beast. Years of being honest and well-behaved prevented him from doing anything too outrageous.

“Then let’s make it right,” Guān Suī said, word by word.

Wēn Sòng didn’t understand when Guān Suī had started targeting him. They usually had little interaction; besides their first conversation, they had barely exchanged a word on other occasions.

Not to mention knowing each other previously, as Guān Suī had only recently returned from abroad.

“Why?” he asked again. “There are so many Betas in this world.”

Why choose his good brother’s boyfriend?

Guān Suī stared at Wēn Sòng with dark eyes and said, “No reason.”

Wēn Sòng lowered his gaze. “I can’t be emotionally involved with two people.”

Guān Suī thought of the Beta who was so inexperienced last night that he didn’t even know how to spread his legs. He narrowed his eyes and asked, “Are you sure the entanglement is emotional, and not a transaction with both people?”

Wēn Sòng said without changing his expression, “Zhào Míngzhuó and I are still in a relationship.”

Their relationship was known throughout their social circle in Suicheng.

Guān Suī nodded repeatedly. “So, I’m the third party.”

    Wēn Sòng: “………..?”

It was absurd to have the true Top-Tier Alpha Crown Prince of Suicheng act as a third party for him.

“Do you like Zhào Míngzhuó?” Guān Suī asked, looking into Wēn Sòng’s eyes.

Wēn Sòng felt completely exposed before Guān Suī. The other party must have seen through his nominal relationship with Zhào Míngzhuó, otherwise, he wouldn’t be so brazenly poaching him.

He remained silent regarding this question.

    He was too passive.

Guān Suī seemed to have the upper hand, dominating and understanding everything about him, grasping his lifeline and weakness. If he truly agreed, he would be like a dog, a plaything kept in high society, led around at will.

“Is it that hard to answer?” Guān Suī scoffed lightly.

Alphas never liked to hide their emotions, especially since he had been high-ranking since childhood. His background was enough for him to walk sideways in Suicheng. Few people would defy him, or haggle and negotiate terms.

Since it concerned his grandmother’s illness, Wēn Sòng couldn’t simply refuse.

He said, “I will………” consider it.

Before he could finish his sentence, a knock and Zhào Míngzhuó’s voice suddenly came from the door.

    “Ā Suī—”

Hearing Zhào Míngzhuó’s voice, Wēn Sòng’s body immediately tensed up. He reached out and pulled the quilt up to his shoulders. Last night’s situation was too intense; his collarbone, chest, shoulders, and waist were covered in suggestive marks.

    Outside was his official “boyfriend.”

If the other party burst into the room, they would surely discover the ridiculous things they had done last night.

Guān Suī looked indifferent, seemingly unafraid of being caught in the act.

Wēn Sòng had always been the obedient, well-behaved, high-achieving child praised by others. Falling into this situation was somewhat humiliating, especially since he was naked in his boyfriend’s good brother’s bed.

Being discovered would be socially devastating.

“Click—” Suddenly, the sound of the doorknob being twisted was heard.

A hint of nervousness rose on Wēn Sòng’s usually calm face. Just as he was about to burrow under the covers, he realized the door was locked from the inside. Zhào Míngzhuó couldn’t enter and could only continue knocking, “Thump, thump—” while calling Guān Suī’s name.

Finally, Wēn Sòng let out a sigh of relief.
