A. Bai Yueguang Said Nothing And Just Cried For The Substitute B. Chapter 19
byChapter 19: Retort
A few more days passed.
Wēn Sòng received an invitation from Zhào Míngzhuó for a pool party.
It had been nearly half a month since they last spoke after Zhào Míngzhuó had a fever. Previously, even if the other party was busy, he would send a message every other day, but this time he had vanished completely.
Clearly, Zhào Míngzhuó must have been busy handling company affairs recently.
He probably didn’t even have time to chase Omegas.
Wēn Sòng was also quite busy.
Ms. Sòng Lánxuě had been moved to a new hospital, and all basic treatments and condition checks needed careful verification. At the same time, the 200,000 yuan per injection treatment was arranged, along with other new tests required to re-verify the values needed before surgery.
He had been running around the hospital for the past few days.
Fortunately, having help made things much easier.
Perhaps due to the change in medication or other reasons, his grandmother was conscious for longer periods than before, mostly spending time chatting with him.
Wēn Sòng checked the time and realized he didn’t need to go to the hospital that day, and his work schedule was clear, so he accepted the invitation.
The moment he sent his acceptance, he received an instant reply from the other party.
Zhào Míngzhuó: I thought you would refuse.
Zhào Míngzhuó: How is your grandmother doing? Did the solution you mentioned last time work out?
Zhào Míngzhuó: Don’t worry about the expenses, I will cover them.
Zhào Míngzhuó: I’ve been quite busy lately, which is why I haven’t contacted you.
Wēn Sòng pursed his lips as he read Zhào Míngzhuó’s messages.
From a partnership perspective, Zhào Míngzhuó was indeed excellent. Wēn Sòng only needed to handle simple daily care and be available on call, and the other party would provide assistance without any conditions.
However, their arrangement would eventually end.
Initially, he did harbor a sliver of affection for Zhào Míngzhuó.
Later, he realized it wasn’t love, but gratitude.
Being rescued from a difficult situation in an unfamiliar environment can easily lead to illusions. He gradually recognized that he didn’t truly hold love for anyone.
Zhào Míngzhuó used his blurred vision and treated him as a stand-in, and he exchanged this for money. They were even, and neither owed the other anything.
Sòng: Nothing serious.
Sòng: The doctor said changing the medication should suffice.
Zhào Míngzhuó: That’s good then.
Their conversation ended there.
Wēn Sòng suddenly thought of Guān Suī for some reason. His knuckles tightened slightly, then relaxed. He put his phone back on the desk and returned to his work.
A Maybach roared up to the pool party, executing a beautiful tail flick that drew whistles and gasps from the crowd at the entrance.
Duàn Zé walked forward, leaning casually against the car body. He took off his sunglasses and lightly tapped on the driver’s side window.
The car window slowly lowered.
It was Guān Suī.
He must have deliberately styled himself before leaving. His fringe was swept back, revealing a full forehead, and his features looked more aggressive. His nasal bridge was high and sharp, adding dimension, and he exuded the aura unique to a Top-Tier Alpha.
Duàn Zé hooked his sunglasses onto his shirt collar, crossing his hands on the window frame. He whistled cheekily, “Well, hello, handsome? Aren’t you afraid all the Omegas here will only have eyes for you today?”
“Scram,” Guān Suī spat out a single word without changing his expression.
Duàn Zé grinned, “Alright.”
“Your buddy will smoothly roll away into a ball now.”
Despite his words, he didn’t move an inch, merely standing up to give Guān Suī room.
Guān Suī opened the car door and stepped out with his long legs.
“I never thought you cared so much about dressing up,” Duàn Zé scrutinized his good friend from head to toe, rubbing his chin and saying meaningfully, “Could it be that the Beta you’re pursuing is also at this pool party?”
“And—”
“Why are you dressed so formally for a pool party?”
He was practically wearing a suit and tie.
A bunch of people, unafraid of the cold, were showing up in swim trunks and bikinis.
Guān Suī was an anomaly, like a peacock showing off its feathers.
Before the other party could speak, Duàn Zé was quick on the uptake this time, saying, “Oh—”
He drew out the sound, patted Guān Suī’s shoulder, nodding heavily, and continued in a sarcastic tone, “Fishing for a wife, huh? I’m a poser too, I get you, buddy.”
Guān Suī glanced sideways at the hand resting on his shoulder. The other party coughed lightly and calmly withdrew it.
He offered no response to his friend’s deliberate mockery.
He was used to it.
Duàn Zé’s personality was always like this.
When the two walked into the villa, they found another person who was equally out of place at the party: Wēn Sòng.
He was wearing long sleeves and long pants, and even his shoes were simple, clean canvas sneakers.
With rosy lips and white teeth, his features were outstanding, and he was as refined as a ray of winter sunshine.
Standing there, he seemed separated from everyone else at the party.
“Tsk,” Duàn Zé couldn’t help but sigh.
“I suddenly think Wēn Sòng’s looks are truly top-notch. He has more gentleness than an Alpha, and more firmness than an Omega.”
“He’s a gem even among Betas.”
“No wonder Zhào Míngzhuó chose a Beta like him to date. I’m slowly starting to understand.”
Guān Suī looked faintly at Duàn Zé.
The latter felt a chill run down his spine, rubbing his arms, and asked, confused, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I’ll tell Wēn Xǔ that you like Betas.”
Guān Suī dropped this sentence and strode away.
Duàn Zé froze for a moment, muttered a curse, and quickly chased after him, shouting, “Guān Suī, are we still good brothers or not—!”
Wēn Sòng, waiting by the pool, heard the familiar name and looked in the direction of the sound.
He saw Duàn Zé jogging up to Guān Suī, who was wearing a black shirt, and the two Alphas walked side-by-side into the inner hall.
Wēn Sòng found himself staring intently for some reason.
He only snapped back to reality when someone stood beside him and asked, “Are you Wēn Sòng?”
The person who asked was an Omega, five feet nine inches tall, with delicate, beautiful features, emitting a faint jasmine fragrance.
This was the scent of their Pheromone.
“I am,” Wēn Sòng lowered his gaze. “May I help you?”
The Omega swirled the champagne glass in their hand, examining him up and down with a strange look in their eyes.
After a moment, they seemed to relax and said, “So you’re just a Beta without Pheromones.”
Anyone else would have been instantly provoked into extreme anger by that statement.
Wēn Sòng remained calm.
Seeing that he wasn’t getting angry, the Omega continued, “I heard Betas are kept as playthings. Without Pheromones, do you even know how to please an Alpha?”
They expected the Beta in front of them to get angry and start cursing, but instead, they heard the other party say in a flat tone:
“Yes, you are an Omega, you must be very good at pleasing Alphas.”
The Omega, who had been retorted against, was left speechless.
