    Chapter 17 The Wrap Party

Bai Shuixian knelt before Li Guoliang’s tomb, her eyes red as she tearfully recounted their past, from the moment they first met until their final encounter.

Optimistically speaking, they could reunite in another world, but everyone knew those were just comforting lies.

Bai Shuixian was already sobbing uncontrollably, and Shen Lingfeng, who had perfectly completed the scene following Director Zheng’s command, was still weeping long after, having been too deeply immersed in the role to pull himself out.

Su Chenhui, whose scenes were already finished, still came to the set that day. He walked over, patted Shen Lingfeng’s shoulder, and handed him a tissue.

Only then did Shen Lingfeng manage to stop his tears and continue filming the remaining scenes.

Farewell was something everyone hated facing, and he was no exception.

Logically, the end of a film shoot was not a permanent farewell in life, just as his departure from that small mountain village back then did not mean a permanent separation from Chu Hao.

Yet, they had been separated for over ten years.

How many ten-year periods does one have in life? Shen Lingfeng was terrified that Su Chenhui would once again fade from his life, or even disappear entirely.

On the night of the wrap party, Su Chenhui invited Shen Lingfeng out for a farewell meal. Afterward, Shen Lingfeng couldn’t help but throw himself into Su Chenhui’s arms, sobbing, “Chenhui, will I not see you for a long time now! I can’t bear it!”

“It won’t be that long,” Su Chenhui lovingly stroked Shen Lingfeng’s hair. “I’ll be shooting a niche film next, about an elderly father with Alzheimer’s who mistakes a young man with depression for his deceased son, and how they mutually heal each other. Since it’s a small-budget production, it’s expected to wrap in just over two months. After that, I plan to take some time off and come stay with you.”

“I haven’t secured my next job yet… Does your movie have any small supporting roles left that I could take?” Shen Lingfeng looked up from Su Chenhui’s embrace, gazing at him pitifully.

Su Chenhui couldn’t help but laugh. He realized that this man, who claimed to be a fierce Omega, became incredibly clingy once he was emotionally invested.

“A-Feng, what you’re suggesting isn’t entirely impossible, but I don’t think it’s good for you. You should prioritize choosing the roles that are best suited for you. After all, we work in the entertainment industry, and there will always be times when we have to be apart, right?”

“Mhm…” Shen Lingfeng replied, temporarily leaving Su Chenhui’s warm embrace.

He knew all too well that couples in the entertainment industry were often separated, with several months of filming usually allowing no time off, and they couldn’t even snatch a quick meeting on weekends like ordinary long-distance couples. Moreover, they weren’t even officially a couple yet.

“I understand. I’ll ask Zhang Chao to help me screen suitable jobs.”

“That’s the right attitude,” Su Chenhui smiled gently at him. “I’ll try my best to find time to contact you every day.”

“You said that yourself! You’re not allowed to disappear again!”

“I won’t disappear again.” These words brought a pang of pain to Su Chenhui’s heart. After being separated from Shen Lingfeng for so many years, hadn’t he himself suffered from the pain of longing?

Having received Su Chenhui’s promise, Shen Lingfeng felt much more at ease.

After returning that night, Shen Lingfeng cheered up and asked Zhang Chao to actively look for work for him, while he also started watching for opportunities himself.

Since he had starred in the major production, When the Narcissus Fades, Shen Lingfeng’s acting career had a very good starting point, and many production teams sent him invitations.

However, he was still considered a newcomer, and since the movie hadn’t been released yet and the box office results were unknown, the opportunities he received for leading roles were mostly in films that clearly weren’t very good.

“I think you should take a supporting role in a better production team,” was Zhang Chao’s advice.

“I agree,” Shen Lingfeng nodded in assent.

“How about this historical drama?” Zhang Chao’s eyes suddenly lit up while sifting through invitations. “The male lead is a Film Emperor.”

“A Film Emperor?” Those two words immediately piqued Shen Lingfeng’s interest.

Zhang Chao chuckled, “Not your Film Emperor.”

“…What do you mean, ‘mine’?” Shen Lingfeng’s face flushed. He leaned closer to Zhang Chao’s computer screen to check the details. “Which Film Emperor?”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you, he’s related to your Film Emperor,” Zhang Chao stubbornly insisted on the word “your.” “It’s his friend, Ouyang Ming.”

    “Ah, I’ve heard of him.”

Ouyang Ming was quite famous in the entertainment industry—skilled in acting and charmingly unrestrained. He was constantly surrounded by admirers but always claimed to be single, leading countless Omegas to flock to him, hoping to become his partner.

But Shen Lingfeng wasn’t focused on that. He was focused on the fact that Ouyang Ming was Su Chenhui’s long-time friend, and they had even been rumored to be dating. Many CP fans were happily shipping the double-Alpha pairing.

“How about it? Want to take this drama? It’s also a dual-male lead setup,” Zhang Chao began enthusiastically promoting it to Shen Lingfeng. “Ouyang Ming is the protagonist Alpha, and the protagonist Omega is named Bai Yijin, a second-generation star who is also very famous.”

“Hmm, sounds pretty good… What’s my role?”

“The protagonist Omega in this film is the son of a general, and your role is his attendant. Although it’s a supporting male role, the screen time is quite substantial.”

“Send me the whole script to read.”

After reading the script, Shen Lingfeng was very satisfied with the story. Moreover, he really wanted to try acting in a historical drama.

So, he decided to accept the role.

The next day, he set off for M City, where the production team was located.

Su Chenhui was already in another city at this time. On the way from the airport to the hotel, Shen Lingfeng casually took a picture of the roadside scenery and sent it to Su Chenhui.

Shen Lingfeng: [Don’t laugh, but I grew up and studied in A City. Aside from a few days of vacation travel, this is the first time I’ve lived alone in another city for a long period. I’m a little nervous.]

Su Chenhui quickly replied: [You’re like a flower in a greenhouse. But there’s nothing wrong with that; everyone has their own way of life. Are you sure you want to endure the wind and sun of the entertainment industry?]

Shen Lingfeng: [Hmph, why do you sound almost exactly like my dad? I don’t want to be a delicate greenhouse flower my whole life!]

Su Chenhui: [Still quarreling with your father? You’ve finished filming a whole movie; he should be able to accept the fact that you’re an actor by now.]

Shen Lingfeng: [Are you hoping we reconcile? I thought you didn’t care about that.]

Su Chenhui: [I personally don’t care about family ties, but that doesn’t mean I want you to be a lonely person like me.]

Shen Lingfeng: [How am I lonely? I still have you ^-^]

Su Chenhui: [Heh, I have to get busy now.]

Shen Lingfeng pouted, feeling a little unhappy.

Since he had been open with Su Chenhui about his feelings, he was no longer reserved in matters of the heart. But Su Chenhui always seemed somewhat distant. Whenever related topics came up, he would always evade the subject.

Forget it, he should focus on his career!

After a short rest at the hotel, Shen Lingfeng went to the location designated by the director for his audition that afternoon.

Among the large group of actors and staff on the set, a handsome man in historical costume, outstanding in both physique and appearance, immediately caught Shen Lingfeng’s eye.
