After The Flower Of The High Mountain Meets The Rough Man Ⅱ Chapter 4
by VolareChapter 4: Getting Angry
“If you mess up my plan, I will kill you!”
*Bang!*
The moment Shen Jixun’s words fell, Ji Shen, who was sitting on the accompanying chair beside him, unexpectedly tumbled onto the floor with a loud noise, startling Ji Mu and Shen Jixun, who both involuntarily flinched.
“Xiao Shen, are you alright?” Ji Mu didn’t know whether to respond to Shen Jixun’s greeting first or check on Ji Shen.
Both mother and son were in a state of confusion.
Ji Shen quickly waved his hand, saying he was fine.
He looked up, and saw a hand with clearly defined knuckles extended toward him.
It hovered right in front of his eyes.
“A’Ji, be careful. Didn’t I say I would come to the hospital to see Auntie later?” Shen Jixun was clearly smiling, but Ji Shen couldn’t see any warmth in his eyes.
Ji Shen carefully placed his hand on Shen Jixun’s and slowly stood up, feeling a bit awkward. “Sorry, I got too excited.”
Then he turned to Ji Mu. “Mom, I’m fine.”
Ji Mu stared at the two of them, her eyes puzzled. “You two… Xiao Shen, what exactly is going on?”
“Hasn’t A’Ji told you about me?” Shen Jixun spoke before Ji Shen could. “Auntie, as you can see, A’Ji and I are currently in a relationship.”
He took the initiative to hold Ji Shen’s hand, lacing their fingers together.
The moment the cool hand touched his, Ji Shen felt as if he had been thrown into a bucket of boiling water, turning red from head to toe, with smoke practically rising from his head. His brain had completely lost the ability to think.
Facing his mother’s confusion, he nodded heavily and said loudly, “Yes, Mom, I—I was just about to tell you about this. I’m in love.”
Every word, every expression, was as firm as an enlistment oath, or like a robot with a programming glitch.
Shen Jixun secretly cursed him as a clumsy idiot in his heart.
The ward fell silent for a long time because of Ji Shen’s announcement.
After all, her son had just announced he was gay and in a relationship without any warning, and his “daughter-in-law” had arrived without any preparation on her part.
Ji Mu needed some time to process all of this.
“Xiao Shen, why didn’t you tell Mom sooner?” After grasping the situation, Ji Mu looked at Ji Shen with a hint of reproach.
Shen Jixun gently placed the bouquet he brought on the bedside table, then kindly explained for Ji Shen, “Auntie, please don’t blame A’Ji. I’ve been busy with work and couldn’t spare the time to visit you.”
Ji Shen genuinely admired Shen Jixun’s ability to improvise.
Just as Ji Mu was about to reply, Ji Shen quickly cut in, “Mom, you should rest well first. I have something to discuss with Ge!”
With that, he pulled Shen Jixun out of the ward.
“Ge, why didn’t you tell me you were coming beforehand?!” Since his mother was just on the other side of the wall, Ji Shen had to keep his voice low.
Shen Jixun leaned against the wall, arms crossed, looking up at him. “I wasn’t planning on coming.”
“But I figured your mother would have to know about us sooner or later.”
The height difference between them was obvious. Even with Ji Shen slightly bending over, Shen Jixun only reached his nose.
However, the difference in height did not mean their status in this relationship was proportional.
Shen Jixun was always the one in control of everything.
“Why does she have to know? Isn’t our relationship fake?” Ji Shen didn’t understand.
Shen Jixun knew there was no need to hide this from him, so he patiently explained, “Because we have to play the part completely. He won’t believe my side of the story; he will only believe what he sees and hears.”
“He will use his own methods to find out everything he wants to know.”
Ji Shen knew who the “he” Shen Jixun referred to was—most likely the father Shen Jixun had mentioned that morning.
After hearing this, Ji Shen’s eyebrows furrowed together. He nervously asked, “Will Mom be in danger?”
It seemed the last sentence had frightened Ji Shen.
Shen Jixun rolled his eyes in exasperation, raised a hand, and tapped him on the head to snap him out of it. “What are you thinking? This is a society governed by law.”
Ji Shen immediately scratched the spot where he was tapped and gave a silly laugh.
“In short, deceiving your mother was unavoidable. Just consider it part of the compensation for the eight million.”
Ji Shen mumbled in response, “Oh.”
“Cooperate with me well later, and don’t let anything slip,” Shen Jixun’s tone was less a reminder and more a warning.
Ji Shen immediately straightened up and responded with conviction, “Yes!”
A hint of a smile reappeared on Shen Jixun’s serious face at that moment.
Two lines that were never meant to intersect were slowly intertwining now.
Shen Jixun was truly a businessman; he handled elders with effortless ease.
Ji Mu, who had initially been suspicious of their relationship, quickly dropped her doubts and wholeheartedly accepted the fact that Shen Jixun was dating her son.
Finally, Shen Jixun used the excuse that he had relatives working at the hospital to successfully move Ji Mu’s room to a VIP Room.
They didn’t leave the hospital and get into the car to go home until after five in the afternoon.
“Ge, thank you for today.” Ji Shen was very grateful for everything Shen Jixun had done for him and his mother.
Shen Jixun looked down, flipping through the *Times* for the day, and casually said, “If you want to repay me, go home and learn how to be in a relationship properly.”
“!” Ji Shen covered his hot, flushed face and muffled his reply, “Got it.”
The rest of the drive was silent.
The assistant dropped them off at the villa and then left.
Shen Jixun took off his jacket and draped it over his arm. He headed straight upstairs. As he reached the corner of the staircase, he turned back to Ji Shen and said, “I’ll have Auntie send dinner over tonight. Do you have any dietary restrictions?”
Ji Shen quickly shook his head. “No.”
Shen Jixun hummed in acknowledgment and continued upstairs.
Ji Shen walked over and sat on the sofa. He still didn’t feel like this place, where he might be living for a long time, was real.
It felt like a dream.
He sat upright on the sofa, not playing with his phone or looking for anything to do.
He used to be busy with work and never had time to idle and stare, but now this state was likely to become his normal life.
He couldn’t visit the hospital too often, or his mother would definitely notice something was off.
It seemed he needed to find something to occupy himself with.
Just as he was thinking, the doorbell rang.
Ji Shen quickly got up and opened the door.
Standing outside was a woman in her thirties or forties, holding two insulated bags. She paused when she saw Ji Shen, then quickly handed over the bags and smiled. “You must be Mr. Shen’s boyfriend? This is the meal you ordered.”
Ji Shen quickly took the bags with both hands and bowed to thank her.
The auntie waved her hand, saying there was no need to thank her. She looked at Ji Shen, seemingly about to ask something, but swallowed her words, deciding it was wiser not to.
She smiled, nodded at him, and then left the villa.
Ji Shen watched her retreating figure, recalling her hesitation, and scratched his head in confusion.
“Ji Shen.” Shen Jixun’s voice came from the living room.
Ji Shen quickly closed the door and ran back to the living room, explaining as he ran, “I’m here. The auntie just delivered the food.”
In that short time, Shen Jixun had already showered and changed into pajamas, though he hadn’t washed his hair. He had used a pen to twist his long hair into a bun at the back of his head.
Many stray strands had fallen around his temples.
His bangs were slightly damp and stuck to his face. The hot water had steamed his fair skin, making it slightly red. He was truly beautiful.
He was sitting on the sofa, looking at a tablet, in a lazy posture.
Ji Shen opened the insulated bags, took out the boxed dinners one by one, and placed them on the table. Then he went to the kitchen to get two sets of bowls and chopsticks.
“Ge, dinner is ready,” Ji Shen called out.
Shen Jixun hummed, turned off the tablet, and stood up.
His foot accidentally kicked something, which clinked as it hit the glass coffee table.
Shen Jixun bent down and picked up the object he had kicked.
It was two small green plants.
Shen Jixun had an excellent memory and immediately recognized them as the plants from Ji Shen’s rental apartment.
Ji Shen also noticed the small incident and quickly ran over to explain, “Ge, those are mine.”
“I know,” Shen Jixun said. “Why are they here?”
He meant why they weren’t placed on the balcony or another spot with good sunlight.
Ji Shen didn’t catch the meaning and quickly said, “I was planning to throw them away. I missed these two because they were under the coffee table.”
Shen Jixun frowned slightly, looking puzzled. “Why throw them away?”
Although they weren’t rare or expensive varieties, their growth indicated they had been carefully nurtured, so Shen Jixun didn’t understand.
“Well, I just don’t think they look good, and they don’t really match your house,” Ji Shen explained, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Shen Jixun didn’t reply. He simply bent down, picked up the other pot from under the table, and walked toward the TV cabinet.
Under Ji Shen’s gaze, he picked up the two *Podocarpus* on either side of the TV cabinet and casually tossed them into a nearby trash can.
Then he placed the two *Peperomia* that Ji Shen had brought in their place.
“Ge, don’t throw those away! My two pots aren’t even nice,” Ji Shen walked over to Shen Jixun, intending to retrieve the *Podocarpus* from the trash can. Plants of such good quality could fetch a good price if sold!
Shen Jixun suddenly spoke, “Don’t pick them up.”
Ji Shen’s hand immediately changed direction in mid-air and hid behind his back.
Shen Jixun decided to speak to Ji Shen one last time. “Ji Shen, this house belongs to both of us. In everyone’s eyes, you must act like the master of the house. We are together because we are in love, and we respect each other. This subservient manner of yours will only expose our secret.”
“Do you think you earned that eight million?”
Shen Jixun took a step closer to Ji Shen. The distance between them was so close that they could feel each other’s breath.
Then Shen Jixun sneered, shattering Ji Shen’s illusion. “The moment you started walking with me, my father already dug up everything about your background. From now on, you are transparent in his eyes. You can only protect yourself by being a good lover to me.”
“Furthermore, I have a bad temper. I’m violent, unreasonable, and moody. In our agreement, besides playing your role well, you must also tolerate everything about me.”
“Ji Shen, if you mess up my plan, I will kill you.”
Shen Jixun raised his hand and pressed his index finger against Ji Shen’s chest, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes.
But from Ji Shen’s perspective, Shen Jixun actually looked like a cat with its fur bristling.
He flashed a bright smile, took hold of Shen Jixun’s hand, and sincerely apologized to Shen Jixun, “I apologize, dear Employer. I will play this role well.”
Then he softened his tone, speaking in a voice that sounded like he was coaxing a child. “But you are clearly so gentle, how could you have a bad temper? Did something upset you today? Or did someone say that about you?”
He saw the coldness on Shen Jixun’s face gradually dissipate after he asked the question, suggesting Ji Shen had indeed guessed something.
Shen Jixun coldly snorted, pulled his hand free from Ji Shen’s grasp, and turned toward the dining table.
Ji Shen quickly followed behind him. When Shen Jixun stopped, he stopped, like a clingy large dog.
However, Ji Shen’s words had successfully smoothed Shen Jixun’s ruffled fur. His expression was no longer as cold as before.
“Eat,” Shen Jixun said.
“Then I won’t be polite,” Ji Shen replied with a gentle, curved-eye smile.
Shen Jixun looked away and let out another cold snort.
