A New Secretary Arrives

Wang Ling returned to work after his heat cycle ended. His face was haggard, and he looked quite fatigued. Xiaohui looked at him, wanting to speak, but ultimately didn’t say much, only briefing him on the work. Wang Ling didn’t elaborate; he had taken too much leave, and Xiaohui had shouldered a significant burden, which made him feel guilty.

“I apologize for causing you trouble,” Wang Ling said, a rare expression of apology on his face. Xiaohui was stunned to see the weak Wang Ling apologize, then replied, “It’s fine. President Nan has been recruiting a new secretary recently.”

Wang Ling paused. It made sense. With such frequent absences, and knowing he would need to take time off every month from now on, he forced a smile and replied, “Alright, I understand.” He returned to his desk, placed the documents on the surface, cleared the space needed for the files, and finally put his belongings into a cardboard box. He realized then how few personal items he had: just a water cup and a pen holder full of pens. The hand cream he owned had been given to him by the male omega assistant who liaised with the R&D Department. He looked over at Qian Xi’s workstation nearby. Aside from essential work supplies, Qian Xi’s desk was adorned with various pink cat and dog dolls hanging on the partition wall, which was covered in cream-yellow wallpaper, and warm yellow string lights were wrapped around the decorative green plant next to the dolls.

He thought to himself, “This is good. At least it will be easy to move.”

Xiaohui walked over, placing new documents on Wang Ling’s desk. Seeing the cardboard box Wang Ling had prepared, her facial muscles twitched uncontrollably for a moment before she calmed her expression and spoke, “Wang Ling, that’s not what I meant… President Nan noticed that the workload for our two secretaries is a bit much, and you usually handle a lot. He’s hiring another colleague for us.”

Wang Ling’s hand, which was clicking the mouse, paused. He calmly replied, “Okay, I know.”

Xiaohui smiled, noticing that Wang Ling’s ears were slightly red.

“Hello everyone.” A crisp female alpha voice sounded. Her voice was strong and impossible to ignore, yet she herself had captivating peach blossom eyes and delicate features like a doll. Her hair was naturally brownish-yellow. She introduced herself, “My name is Ila, the new secretary.”

“Oh my god, you are so beautiful,” said Chen Yusu, the male omega assistant who liaised with the R&D Department. His eyes lit up the moment he saw Ila. He asked, “Are you from an ethnic minority?”

“Yes, I’m from the Northwest Region,” Ila replied with a smile and a nod. The other assistants laughed and gathered around Ila, introducing themselves. Wang Ling stood slightly apart, reviewing Ila’s file. He saw that Ila’s work experience was primarily with companies in the Northwest Region, and she had only recently arrived in Capital City. This meant this job was her first in the capital. Wang Ling didn’t pry into this aspect of her privacy, but overall, Ila’s professional competence looked excellent.

“What do you think?” Xiaohui asked, standing beside him. Wang Ling put Ila’s file away and said, “President Nan personally selected her, so naturally, I am reassured.” Xiaohui nodded without saying anything further. Wang Ling took the documents and said to Xiaohui in a businesslike manner, “I’ll handle the remaining work. You take Ila and familiarize her with the procedures.”

Xiaohui knew Wang Ling still felt guilty about the heavy workload he had left her due to his leave, so she didn’t expose his feelings.

In his office, Xu Tongxiao looked at Ila’s file and resume. She was the secretary he and Nan Ningyue had selected, though he had searched online, and Nan Ningyue had conducted the in-person interviews. “The new secretary has quite an exotic look,” Xu Tongxiao commented casually. Nan Ningyue, listening nearby, glanced at the computer screen, his tone unreadable: “What? Do you like her?”

Xu Tongxiao immediately felt a chill run up his spine. He quickly added, “She is indeed beautiful, but I still prefer you, Senior.”

Nan Ningyue didn’t speak. He moved closer to Xu Tongxiao, smiled, and said, “I think she’s beautiful too, but I still prefer you.”

Xu Tongxiao then realized that Nan Ningyue could choose an alpha partner, but since they were both permanently Marked, they no longer had any sexual sensitivity to the Pheromones of others.

“You’re turning the tables on me,” Xu Tongxiao said with a helpless laugh.

“Yes, I like you,” Nan Ningyue took the opportunity to kiss Xu Tongxiao’s cheek.

“Good,” Xu Tongxiao felt a surge of warmth in his heart.
