    Chapter 21

Traces Left in the Demon Palace, the Charm of the Lotus Rhyme

When the Lord of the Demon Realm rushed back to the Demon Palace, he happened upon his subordinate minor demons gathered outside the wine cellar, marveling at a jar of demon wine mixed with Lotus Spring water. Even the Netherworld Flowers inside the hall were glowing with a faint purple halo, completely out of place with the surrounding dark atmosphere. He followed the faint, almost imperceptible scent of lotus all the way to the main hall. Seeing the miniature purple lotus etched onto the pillar and then touching the jade pendant carved with a lotus pattern on his desk, he couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head. He held the jade pendant between his fingers and chuckled, “My brother certainly knows how to liven things up for me.”

Meanwhile, Qinglian and Gu Baifei had long since left the Demon Realm and were leaning against the boundary marker, watching the sea of clouds where the Demon Realm and the Monster Realm met. Qinglian’s fingertips were still stained with the pale black sap of the Netherworld Flower. Gu Baifei held her fingers, meticulously wiping them clean. She smiled and said, “When your brother returns, I fear he will complain for a long time.” Gu Baifei lowered his head and kissed her fingertips, his eyes full of amusement. “If he dares to complain, next time we will take him to the Lotus Pond in the Celestial Realm and let him taste the flavor of Lotus Spring water mixed with immortal brew.”

Within a few days, a strange tale spread throughout the Demon Realm: the demon lord’s prized demon wine had developed a clear, crisp lotus fragrance, the Netherworld Flowers in the back garden had turned into a strange purple-edged species, and even the furnishings in the study had mysteriously changed. Some minor demons claimed to have seen a purple-robed medical immortal and a white-robed Venerable visit. Not only did the demon lord not punish them, but he also stored the lotus-patterned jade pendant in the Treasure Pavilion. Even the jar of demon wine mixed with Lotus Spring water became the Demon Realm’s “treasured vintage.”

Even more interesting was that half a month later, the Lord of the Demon Realm personally visited the Celestial Realm. As soon as he entered the Lotus Palace, he was surrounded by immortal descendants asking if the Netherworld Flowers turning purple in the Demon Palace was a miracle. Despite his exasperation, he looked at the two figures leaning against each other inside the Lotus Palace, a hint of envy in his eyes—it turned out that the Supreme Dao of Heaven and the Purple Lotus Bodhisattva also possessed such unrestrained, casual mortal fun and deep affection.
