    Chapter 18 The Kitchen Terminator

Thinking of something, she became full of energy again, but quickly grew shy, scratching her head. “It’s just that… my cooking might not be very good.”

Looking at the expression in her eyes, Wen Mian was momentarily speechless.

She didn’t want to hurt Wang Mo’s innocent heart. While she hesitated, Wang Mo took her silence as agreement and cheerfully ran toward the kitchen.

Wen Mian sat helplessly on the sofa, looking down in thought, the earlier joy gone.

However, she quickly comforted herself. Let whatever happens happen. At worst, she would just refuse when the time came.

Thinking this, she slumped back onto the sofa to digest her food. With a sudden bang, Wen Mian shot upright, looking left and right. What happened?!

She saw a large amount of smoke pouring out of the kitchen, accompanied by constant coughing.

Wang Qiang’s heart sank. He anxiously shouted, “Call a doctor, quick!” After saying this, he was the first to rush over.

Wen Mian immediately stood up and ran to the kitchen entrance with Gu Man. Two people stumbled out, covered in soot: Su Shiqiu and Wang Mo.

Su Shiqiu, in particular, was covered in ash, and a section of her hair was singed and curled.

Seeing the worried staff and Wen Mian, she scratched her head with an embarrassed smile. “I’m fine. I just accidentally… burned the pot…”

Wen Mian’s eyes widened. She could hardly believe what she heard. Burned the pot?

Earlier, when Su Shiqiu said her cooking wasn’t good, Wen Mian thought she was being too humble. Now… looking at the smoke-filled kitchen, Wen Mian swallowed hard, realizing Su Shiqiu had indeed been overly modest.

This wasn’t just bad cooking; this could clearly be called—The Kitchen Terminator!

A flurry of thoughts ran through Wen Mian’s mind, but she kept a straight face and managed to say, “It’s good that you’re okay.”

She turned to Wang Mo, asking worriedly, “How about you?”

Wang Mo showed off eight pearly white teeth, her smile bright. “Don’t worry! I’m fine.”

The loud noise also woke up Zhang Yunxi and Song Xue. Zhang Yunxi ran downstairs in her pajamas with a bare face.

Song Xue, meanwhile, was frantically applying makeup.

When Zhang Yunxi rushed down, Su Shiqiu hadn’t had time to wash her face and was caught right away.

Zhang Yunxi’s eyes immediately reddened. She tremblingly reached out to touch Su Shiqiu’s face, then stopped, her hand hovering in the air. She choked out, “Are you alright?”

Su Shiqiu blinked her peach blossom eyes, leaned forward, and placed her face into Zhang Yunxi’s palm, comforting her with a smile. “I’m fine. I have experience.”

Zhang Yunxi wanted to curse. “What experience! Seriously! Where is the doctor? Haven’t they arrived yet?”

Su Shiqiu pulled her away, her tone full of helplessness. “Don’t cry, I’m really fine! Look…”

Their voices gradually faded into the distance.

After this incident, Wang Qiang dared not let Su Shiqiu enter the kitchen again. He personally cleaned up the kitchen and then ordered a new pot online.

After the order was placed, the doctor arrived. Wang Qiang quickly asked them to examine the two women.

Su Shiqiu sat obediently on the sofa, her large eyes meeting the doctor’s. She listened docilely to the doctor’s instructions.

Song Xue came downstairs at this moment. She wore light makeup. Seeing the doctor, she covered her mouth in surprise and anxiously asked, “What happened to Shiqiu? I’m so sorry, I’m a heavy sleeper.”

With one sentence, she cleverly explained why she was only coming down now, though no one really cared.

Su Shiqiu shook her head, letting the doctor check Wang Mo first, before replying, “It’s nothing. Director Wang just insisted on a checkup to be safe.”

Song Xue’s eyes dramatically reddened. She patted her chest, relieved. “That’s good, that’s good.”

After the checkup, Xiao Meng brought the newly purchased breakfast and placed it on the table, calling everyone to eat.

Song Xue cautiously approached Gu Man, her voice sweet. “Manman Jie, shall we eat breakfast together?”

Gu Man frowned slightly, subtly moving two steps away, and refused. “I already ate.”

Sensing Gu Man’s distance, Song Xue felt secretly hurt and glared resentfully at Wen Mian.

Wen Mian wasn’t one to back down. Her lips moved slightly. “She made my breakfast too, you know.”

Song Xue’s fists clenched suddenly, the malice on her face almost impossible to hide. She took a step forward.

The slight smile in Gu Man’s eyes turned cold, and she took a step closer to Wen Mian.

Song Xue’s fists at her sides loosened, then tightened, then loosened again. Finally, she smiled and sweetly said to Gu Man, “Alright, Manman Jie.”

The four walked to the dining table together. Only after Song Xue sat down did she realize Wen Mian wasn’t there.

She chuckled softly and asked with malicious intent, “Why isn’t Mianmian Jie coming to eat? Xiao Meng Jie specially bought this. It would be a waste if we don’t finish it, right?”

With that one sentence, she implied that Wen Mian was disrespecting the staff’s hard work.

Zhang Yunxi immediately put down her spoon. Her eyes were still a bit red and moist, but her attack power was undiminished. “Mianmian already ate. The staff knew and didn’t buy any for her, so what exactly do you expect her to eat?”

Song Xue hadn’t expected the seemingly shy and timid Zhang Yunxi to be like this when she got angry. She gave an awkward laugh.

But then her eyes reddened. She looked down at her rice porridge, trembling slightly as she replied softly, “Xue Xue understands.”

Inwardly, however, she was cursing: And she calls herself shy? She’s clearly faking it! I don’t know why Su Shiqiu is so close to her!

Fortunately, this wasn’t a live broadcast, or her fans would surely start another wave of trouble.

Since it was a recorded broadcast, Xiao Meng and Zhang Yunxi both curled their lips. Wang Qiang exchanged a look with the female Vice Director Zhong Li. Zhong Li subtly moved her finger, deleting the footage. Wang Qiang looked away, pretending not to notice.

Because of Su Shiqiu and Wang Mo’s “injuries,” Wang Qiang didn’t issue a task today, allowing the group free time.

After sitting around bored for a while, Wen Mian played on her phone, which displayed stock market lines all in red.

After watching for a bit, Wen Mian raised an eyebrow and decisively sold the stocks she held.

Seeing the mocking comments below, Wen Mian didn’t care and simply logged out.

Song Xue picked at her fingers, her eyes darting around, constantly watching Wen Mian out of the corner of her eye. She was anxious and flustered. Why wasn’t Wen Mian nervous?!

She should be scared and upset! Did the plan fail?

As this thought emerged, Song Xue’s nails dug sharply into her flesh. She shook her head. No! She must be pretending!

But a vague sense of unease lingered. Song Xue looked upstairs. Why did she forget to bring her phone down? She cursed inwardly.

Just as she was about to speak and go upstairs, Zhang Yunxi suddenly stood up.

Song Xue’s heart jumped, and her eyes showed panic.

Wen Mian glanced at her from the adjacent sofa, feeling speechless. With such poor psychological fortitude, she shouldn’t be doing bad things. I’m better than her.

“I know! I brought the Head Goose card game. Let’s play together!” Zhang Yunxi turned to look at everyone.

Seeing Song Xue sitting there fidgeting, Wen Mian’s eyes flickered, and she nodded in agreement. “Sounds good. It’ll pass the time.”

Seeing Wen Mian agree, Gu Man put down her script, looked up at Zhang Yunxi, and said in a calm tone, “I can play.”
