Chapter 3: “Mo Mo, I’m Your Brother” Li Mo stared intently at Jiang Yilan…

Unexpectedly, Li Xun slept quite well that night, perhaps because this body was overly exhausted after several Concert Tours. When he woke up, the day had already broken.

He was still able to open his eyes, still in this Hospital room. The ceiling with a small patch of peeling paint in the corner, the curtains that weren’t fully drawn, the water Wei Qiyao had poured for him on the bedside table—nothing had changed.

Li Xun got up and went to the bathroom. He splashed cold water on his face and looked at the person in the mirror.

This was truly an impeccable face. Jiang Yilan’s features resembled his mother’s, possessing an aggressively striking beauty. Wei Qiyao was older now, and her features had softened considerably, but Li Xun could still tell how devastatingly beautiful she must have been in her youth.

In fact, Li Xun himself shared a similar type of appearance with Jiang Yilan, leaning towards androgynous, but Li Xun’s features were gentler and less overtly sharp than his. Aside from some personal grudges, Jiang Yilan wouldn’t want to be on the same team as someone who clashed with his type; he had always been this self-centered and felt no remorse.

When he came out of the bathroom, Wei Qiyao had already arrived. She glanced at Li Xun and knew her son still hadn’t remembered her.

“I bought breakfast. We’ll be discharged and go home after you eat.” Without asking if he had recovered his memory, Wei Qiyao motioned for him to eat. “I packed it from the hotel. Eat it while it’s hot.”

After breakfast, Wei Qiyao had Assistant Cheng call a car to the airport. Li Xun took out his phone and messaged Rong Xiao, telling him that he and his mother were heading back first.

Rong Xiao quickly replied: “Okay, we’ll fly later. Go home and rest well. Contact me immediately if anything happens.”

Li Xun had never been on a plane, especially not Business Class. He felt uneasy, enjoying things that fundamentally didn’t belong to him.

Wei Qiyao saw him sitting awkwardly in the seat and helped him recline it to make him more comfortable. Li Xun took the opportunity to lie down, hoping to get through the flight by pretending to sleep. The flight back from the city where the concert ended took about an hour and a half. Li Xun closed his eyes, and it didn’t feel long before they arrived.

When they reached their destination, another car was waiting. The driver seemed very familiar with Li Xun, calling him Yilan. Li Xun could only offer a polite smile and nod, listening as Wei Qiyao introduced him: “This is Driver Ming. You two used to be very close.”

Once they arrived home, Wei Qiyao seemed to be in a good mood at the dinner table. Yesterday, she had momentarily lost control, grieving over her son’s amnesia, but after a day, she laughed at herself for being ungrateful. Wasn’t it the greatest fortune that Jiang Yilan was sitting right beside her now? Even if he never recovered his memory, they still had many years ahead of them as mother and son, and countless memories to accumulate.

Li Xun lowered his head and ate. The auntie at the Jiang Residence cooked delicious food, and especially hearing that Li Xun was coming back, she made all his favorite dishes.

“Lianlan, try the mandarin fish. You always loved Aunt Fang’s mandarin fish.”

Li Xun didn’t like fish, but hearing this, he picked up a piece with his chopsticks.

Perhaps it was because he had never eaten well-prepared fish before, or perhaps he was using Jiang Yilan’s sense of taste, but for the first time, he found fish to be incredibly delicious.

After dinner, Li Xun told Wei Qiyao he needed to go out. Wei Qiyao was naturally worried and curious about where he would go since he remembered nothing. Li Xun simply insisted on going out for a bit, saying he didn’t need a driver and didn’t explain his purpose.

Wei Qiyao reluctantly let him go, no longer pressing the issue. Before leaving, Li Xun looked back and saw Wei Qiyao standing in the doorway. He paused, then said, “I’ll be back early.”

He needed to find Li Mo.

He couldn’t go out as freely as before. Li Xun put on a hat and a mask, only exposing his eyes.

Once outside, he finally took out his phone and called Li Mo. He hadn’t dared to call last night, afraid that after telling Li Mo he wasn’t dead, he would vanish the next day. Today, he hadn’t had the chance until now.

The first call went unanswered. Li Xun, unwilling to give up, called again. After ringing for a long time, Li Mo’s hoarse, weak voice finally came through: “Hello?”

“Mo Mo!” Li Xun called out, then quickly continued: “Mo Mo, listen to me first. No matter where you are right now, and no matter what I say next, don’t interrupt me. Just listen.”

“Mo Mo, I’m your brother. I’m still alive. I went to find you yesterday afternoon. We met downstairs at your Company Dormitory. You were wearing the beige down jacket I bought you. We went to the sixth cafeteria at your school and ate the spicy hot pot you mentioned a few times. The owner recognized you and said we truly looked like siblings. After eating, we walked around the commercial street behind the school, and you bought a pair of snowflake earrings. Then I went back, and not long after, you messaged me saying it was snowing.”

    “Mo Mo, I’m your brother.”

Li Xun stopped speaking. The breathing on the other end grew increasingly rapid, followed by an unmistakable sob, a mix of confusion and unbelievable joy: “Ge…?”

“Yes… it’s me.” Li Xun was also choked up. “Can we meet and talk? Where are you?”

In less than a day, Li Mo looked significantly more haggard. Her eyes were swollen, and her complexion was as terrible as if she had pulled several all-nighters.

Li Mo stared at the strange man wearing a hat and mask. He ran over, looking like he wanted to hug her, but stopped just in time as if suddenly remembering something, and called her “Mo Mo.”

It was the same voice she heard on the phone, the same tone her brother used when he called her name.

Li Mo looked up at him. Li Xun proactively removed his mask, revealing Jiang Yilan’s face.

“I don’t know why this happened…” Li Xun said to the completely stunned Li Mo.

“Last night… before the police contacted me, I saw the news online about Jiang Yilan’s concert accident…” After a long silence, Li Mo spoke slowly.

“Yes… after I woke up, they told me the Lift Platform malfunctioned, and ‘I’ fell from a height.”

Li Mo stared intently at Jiang Yilan’s face, unable to speak for a long time.

She first reached out and touched Li Xun’s arm, then moved up to his shoulder, as if confirming whether this person was truly standing in front of her.

The whole thing was as absurd as a sci-fi movie, yet the man in front of her spoke and acted exactly like her brother.

Li Mo’s eyes were stinging from the tears, but she couldn’t stop them from pouring out.

“Ge…” She was crying so hard she couldn’t catch her breath. Since receiving the news of her brother’s death until now, she didn’t know how she had managed to get through that short day.

Li Xun was her only family. They had grown up depending on each other, the most important people in each other’s lives.

Li Xun hugged her, gently patting her back, his own eyes welling up.

After calming down, Li Mo looked at him worriedly. “Then, what should we do now? Are they… are you going to continue the Concert Tour? Do you have to go?”

“The Concert Tour is over,” Li Xun said, smoothing her hair. “I just returned to the Jiang Residence today. I have to go back soon. I can only tell them I don’t remember anything. We’ll see what to do about the future.”

The weather was cold. The two went to a coffee shop, ordered two hot drinks, and sat in a corner booth.

It wasn’t convenient to talk too much in the shop. They sat quietly, Li Mo still unable to believe it, staring blankly at the person in front of her.

She took out her phone and searched for To5’s information.

She hadn’t paid much attention to To5. Li Xun hadn’t told her that his spot had been taken; letting his sister know would only increase her worries. He had only said his scores weren’t high enough and he needed to work harder.

Li Mo followed all of To5’s related accounts and added a special notification for Jiang Yilan.

Scrolling through Jiang Yilan’s Weibo, she seemed to realize something.

    “So, he… is he gone?”

Li Xun shook his head, his index finger resting on the rim of the coffee cup. “I don’t know.”

As dusk approached, Wei Qiyao messaged Li Xun, asking if he would be back for dinner.

“Mo Mo, I’ll walk you back to school,” Li Xun said. “I should head back.”

There were more people outside during dinner time. A few passersby had already glanced at him several times. Li Xun pulled his hat down further and walked out with his head lowered.

    Li Mo hugged him again.

“Message me often, Brother,” Li Mo murmured into his chest. She was afraid, afraid that one day she wouldn’t be able to contact Li Xun again, afraid this was all a dream.

“I will,” Li Xun gently patted her back.

Back home, Wei Qiyao met him at the door, her face beaming. “You’re back.”

Li Xun managed a slight smile. “Mm.”

Dinner was still lavish, and Wei Qiyao continued to search for topics to chat with him. Li Xun tried his best to respond a few times, which already made Wei Qiyao very happy.

Jiang Yilan’s bedroom was meticulously clean, even though he hadn’t stayed there for quite some time while busy with the Concert Tour. The room was large. On the wall directly facing the bed hung a very large portrait—a stage photo of Jiang Yilan himself. There was a signature in the corner; it must have been a fan-taken photo gifted by a fan.

The photo was taken from a low angle. Jiang Yilan’s face was slightly turned, a few strands of bangs and sideburns stuck to his face with sweat. His lips curved into a smile, and his eyes were bright and sparkling. He stood on the stage, his custom-tailored clothes highlighting his exceptional physique. His posture was tall and relaxed, exuding an air of confident flamboyance.

Li Xun watched quietly for a while.

“Jiang Yilan…” Li Xun silently repeated his name, then whispered, “I’m sorry.”

Even if it wasn’t Jiang Yilan’s subjective intention, the fact remained that it had happened. Li Xun owed him a life.

“If you can’t come back, I will take good care of your parents. You… rest assured,” he said, looking at the photo.

He had a lot to do tonight. During dinner, Rong Xiao had contacted him, saying they needed to prepare for a livestream in the next couple of days.

“We always have a habit of doing livestreams during our break period to maintain interaction with fans. Yilan, you go first. It’s a good chance to show your face and reassure the fans. It doesn’t matter if the stream is short, and you don’t have to talk too much to avoid giving anything away. Just let the fans see that everything is normal with you.”

“You don’t need to answer any questions from the comments that you don’t know. Yilan rarely answered comment questions during livestreams anyway… Have you still not remembered anything?”

    “No… not yet.”

“It’s okay. Try to find your old livestreams and see if you can recall anything.”

Li Xun agreed. Tonight, he needed to catch up on Jiang Yilan’s past livestreams, at least to understand his general style when broadcasting.

After watching just one, Li Xun understood why Rong Xiao felt comfortable letting him, who hadn’t recovered his memory, go first.

Jiang Yilan didn’t just avoid answering comments; he barely bothered to speak, adopting an attitude that suggested, “I’m only doing this livestream so you can admire my face.”

    Li Xun was genuinely amused.
