MFIMM Chapter 3
by VolareGetting the Marriage Certificate
Lin Xi had just reached the bathroom when he saw Chen Mingxuan hugging a waiter and calling out, “Lin Xi.”
Lin Xi rushed forward and awkwardly pulled Chen Mingxuan off the waiter. A drunk person was exceptionally heavy, and Lin Xi almost couldn’t support him.
“I’m sorry, my friend is drunk and mistook you for someone else.”
The waiter, having been pulled for so long, had a face as cold as ice. Lin Xi didn’t dare to speak to him.
Unexpectedly, he took the initiative to support Chen Mingxuan, “I’ll help you get them out.”
“Thank you,” Lin Xi said, feeling flattered. With the waiter’s help, they quickly exited the store and hailed a cab to take Chen Mingxuan home first.
By the time he was almost home, it was already eleven o’clock.
Lin Xi’s mother, who usually went to bed at ten, was sitting in the living room, and Lin Xi’s father was sitting with her, yawning.
Seeing Lin Xi return, Lin Xi’s father finally slumped onto the sofa in relief.
“Why are you back so late?” Lin Xi’s mother said with a stern face.
Lin Xi, who had been dozing off in the taxi, woke up instantly upon hearing his mother’s words. He slid over and hugged his mother.
“Mom, it’s all Chen Mingxuan’s fault. He got drunk after only drinking a little cocktail. I had to take him home first, so I got back late. I definitely won’t do it again!”
Seeing Lin Xi’s sincere apology, Lin Xi’s mother’s stern face quickly softened, and she looked at Lin Xi worriedly, “Why did you go out drinking? There are so many people, did you have any allergic reactions?”
Although alphas and omegas usually use barrier patches or sprays to prevent their scent from spreading, they inevitably release pheromones when they are emotionally excited.
Moreover, it was a place like a bar.
Lin Xi shook his head, feeling a little strange in his heart. He did feel a little dizzy in the second half of the evening, but after Pei Jiashu arrived, the dizziness lessened considerably.
Especially when he accidentally bumped into Pei Jiashu’s arms, the man’s pheromones had a fresh mint scent, and his mind cleared up in an instant.
Wait!
Lin Xi suddenly realized something important—
He wasn’t allergic to Pei Jiashu’s pheromones, and Pei Jiashu’s pheromones could even clear his mind.
While Lin Xi was thinking, Lin Xi’s mother brought another good news.
“Oh, go and rest. You don’t need to go on the blind date this weekend. The family suddenly called me and said they had already found someone to marry.”
“These people are really something. Why even go on a blind date if they already have someone to marry!”
Lin Xi’s mother’s words interrupted Lin Xi’s thoughts. He was stunned, wondering if it could be such a coincidence.
It shouldn’t be such a coincidence.
Lin Xi consoled himself. Sleepiness surged, his head felt heavy, and he told his mother before going back to his room to sleep.
xx
The next day, Lin Xi was awakened by the sound of a phone call. He only heard the ringtone after it had rung several times. He grabbed the phone, his eyes not fully open, and met someone’s gaze.
“Damn it.” Lin Xi quickly pressed the phone onto the bed, covering the camera.
A deep male voice came from the phone, “Oh? You haven’t gotten up yet?”
Lin Xi, with his bedhead looking like a chicken coop, grabbed the phone and shouted at the person inside, “Are you crazy? It’s only eight o’clock in the morning. What decent person makes a video call to someone at eight in the morning!!!”
Pei Jiashu touched his numb ear and said calmly, “Oh, I misclicked.”
“Fuck.” Lin Xi angrily hung up the phone. ‘Misclicked’ my ass. He probably did it on purpose.
Lin Xi grabbed the doll next to him and punched it a few times, treating it like Pei Jiashu.
The phone rang a few more times. He clicked it open and saw it was a message from Pei Jiashu on WeChat.
[I’m waiting for you outside your house. Remember to bring your ID card and come out to register our marriage.]
Lin Xi read the message several times, initially wanting to curse Pei Jiashu for being a lunatic and asking him what he needed his ID card for, for no reason at all. After a while, he remembered what had happened yesterday.
Lin Xi grabbed a handful of his chicken coop hair. The already messy hair was sticking up in every direction.
He was only twenty-two years old, and he was already stepping into the grave of marriage, even with someone he disliked, even if it was a fake marriage.
Lin Xi sat on the bed, staring blankly as he thought about his future.
He could only come to one conclusion: his life was—over.
The phone on the bed vibrated again. Lin Xi, who hadn’t moved for a long time, finally picked up the phone and glanced at it. This one glance almost made him explode.
Pei: Come out within half an hour, or I’ll come in.
His dad should have gone to work at this hour, but his mom should still be doing yoga in the living room. Without thinking, Lin Xi got dressed and rushed to wash up, finishing in ten minutes.
After Lin Xi walked out of the residential complex, he saw Pei Jiashu leaning against the car window not far away, his eyes lowered, not knowing what he was looking at.
Suddenly, he seemed to sense something and looked over, meeting Lin Xi’s gaze.
Lin Xi’s heart trembled, and his mind involuntarily recalled the times he had inquired about Pei Jiashu’s whereabouts, just to catch a glimpse of him.
Pei Jiashu was three years older than him. When he was a freshman, Pei Jiashu was already a senior. Seniors rarely had classes, and Pei Jiashu seldom appeared at school. But he could never avoid school events, and Lin Xi would secretly go to see Pei Jiashu.
Pei Jiashu was always surrounded by many people, and most of the time, he wouldn’t notice Lin Xi’s fleeting glances.
But as long as Pei Jiashu glanced at him, he would be excited all day.
And now, he was holding his household registration booklet and was about to marry this person.
Lin Xi’s steps suddenly stopped. The words Pei Jiashu had said on the day of his confession kept echoing in his mind, like an incantation, buzzing in his head.
Was he really going to fake marriage with this person just to become an anchor?
Before Lin Xi could come to a conclusion, the person in front of the car seemed to be running out of patience. He took a few steps forward, shortening the distance between them.
Lin Xi was frightened and took a few steps back.
Pei Jiashu suddenly laughed, his eyebrows curving as he looked at him. This smile was different from his usual gentle smile; it was more like the calm before a storm.
“Regretting it? Too late,” Pei Jiashu chuckled, grabbing Lin Xi’s hand and shoving him into the car.
The difference in physical strength between an alpha and an omega was too great. Lin Xi used all his strength, but it was like aMayfly Shake, literally “mayfly trying to move a tree,” meaning futile effort, having no effect on Pei Jiashu.
He was thrown into the car seat, and Pei Jiashu’s body suddenly leaned over.
Lin Xi fearfully used his hands to brace against his chest, the faint mint scent lingering around his nose, but his body had no adverse reactions.
While Lin Xi was in a daze, Pei Jiashu had already pulled the seatbelt and buckled him in.
“You… you’re forcing me,” Lin Xi accused.
Pei Jiashu snorted and closed the car door, returning to the driver’s seat. “The words you said yesterday were recorded clearly on my phone. Do you want to think about the consequences of breaking the agreement now?”
Pei Jiashu suddenly turned his head, staring at Lin Xi sinisterly.
Lin Xi gripped the seatbelt tightly, swallowing hard. “What consequences?”
Pei Jiashu smiled maliciously. “Offending me is equivalent to offending Jiashang Media. I can easily blacklist you in the industry.”
Lin Xi’s back straightened abruptly. Aside from wanting to be aanchor, his undergraduate degree was in media. If he was blacklisted by a large company like Jiashang, he could forget about finding a job.
Threat! This was a blatant threat!
Pei Jiashu turned on the car’s navigation, and the navigation’s voice broke the silence in the car.
“Destination: Baishui Crematorium, distance 11.7 kilometers, approximately 20 minutes.”
“Huh?” Lin Xi, listening to the navigation’s voice, suddenly realized that this destination was wrong.
“You—you, you, you’re not going to take me to harvest my organs, are you! I was just kidding. Let’s go get married.”
The corners of Pei Jiashu’s mouth lifted slightly, a sly smile flashing in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. He said blandly, “It’s hard to park at the Civil Affairs Bureau. This place is close and has good parking.”
Lin Xi obviously didn’t believe him, widening his eyes and staring at the navigation without blinking, afraid that Pei Jiashu would sell him off somewhere.
Seeing the Civil Affairs Bureau, Lin Xi finally relaxed.
Not many people were there to get married. Pei Jiashu pulled Lin Xi straight inside. When they sat on the bench, listening to the staff’s instructions for taking wedding photos, Lin Xi suddenly realized that he was getting married.
“You two get closer, omega, smile,” the staff reminded them, looking at the computer screen.
But Lin Xi was stiff all over, unable to force a smile.
He heard other staff members whispering, “Are they getting married so young?”
“Look at how stiff that omega is, like he’s being forced.”
Being watched by so many people made Lin Xi even more nervous.
Suddenly, a hand grasped his hand on his knee. Lin Xi subconsciously looked at the hand.
The knuckles were distinct, the palm carrying the warmth of the owner’s body, enveloping his fingers that were cold with nervousness.
Pei Jiashu apologized to the photographer, “Can we pause for a moment? He’s a little nervous.”
The Civil Affairs Bureau might not have a single couple getting married in a month, so the staff was very accommodating, giving them a little private space.
As soon as the staff left, Pei Jiashu released Lin Xi’s hand. He leaned closer to Lin Xi, hooking his lips and saying in his ear, “Think about Jiashang’s offer. Can you smile now?”
Lin Xi thought about it, and the corners of his mouth really couldn’t help but rise.
And this scene, in the eyes of the staff members not far away, looked like a young couple flirting, and they all dispelled their doubts.
The rest went smoothly. When he received those two little red books, Lin Xi was still a little dazed.
The staff handed them a promotional brochure. “The management staff of the Civil Affairs Bureau will conduct random inspections of newly married couples within a year. Please pay attention to that. I wish you a happy marriage.”
“Happy, happy,” Lin Xi said casually, not really listening to anything, his mind full of the fact that he was married.
Pei Jiashu, on the other hand, had prepared wedding candy at some point, grabbing a handful for each of the staff members, smiling radiantly, looking like a real newlywed.
After walking out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Lin Xi was about to get into the car with Pei Jiashu, but Pei Jiashu stopped him. “Alright, you can go home yourself. You don’t need to worry about the rest. I’ll take care of it.”
Lin Xi nodded blankly. After Pei Jiashu left, he realized that Pei Jiashu, that bad guy, wasn’t even willing to take him home, dumping him after using him.
Heartless bastard!
He rubbed his palm, feeling as if Pei Jiashu’s warmth still lingered, along with the fresh mint scent on his body. He was so grateful that he had thought for a moment that Pei Jiashu had some hidden reason for being rude to him that day. Now it seemed that Pei Jiashu was just such a bastard.
He hailed a taxi home. The little red books in his hand were a little hot, and he hadn’t even thought about how to explain it to his mom.
The ringing of the phone interrupted his thoughts. Because of what happened in the morning, he now felt like something bad would happen whenever he heard this ringtone.
He opened his phone and saw that it was another message from Pei Jiashu on WeChat.
Pei: By the way, are you free this weekend? Accompany me on a date.
Lin Xi: [Unbelievable.jpg]
Lin Xi: Didn’t you say it was a fake marriage?
Pei: You want people to report us for fake marriage?
Lin Xi: [Cat falling down.jpg]
