After Dressing Up As A Woman, My Roommates All Kissed Me Chapter 17
byChapter 17 He didn’t mind humoring Qin Zhou, saying something…
Pei Yisheng lay in bed, struggling until morning. Using the faint light of dawn, he washed up, grabbed his backpack, and headed out. Finding a place to study was better than staying in the dorm room.
The moment he closed the door, Qin Zhou opened his eyes.
He silently got up and followed Pei Yisheng out the door.
Pei Yisheng still hadn’t replied to the WeChat message he sent yesterday. Qin Zhou didn’t know if he simply didn’t want to reply or if he didn’t know how to handle the situation. Since that was the case, he decided to ask directly.
Qin Zhou walked down the stairs, glanced at the surveillance camera, and for a moment thought of the person he still hadn’t found. But before he could dwell on it, he saw Pei Yisheng squatting by the dorm entrance, feeding a cat.
He had somehow produced a hot dog sausage, peeled back half the wrapper, and was holding it out to the little calico cat.
The calico cat gnawed away, making soft purring sounds.
Pei Yisheng patiently coaxed the little cat to eat slowly, assuring it that he had more. As if by magic, another whole sausage appeared in his palm. Qin Zhou watched from the stairwell as Pei Yisheng fed the cat an entire sausage, and watched the satisfied calico cat shake its leg and run off without a backward glance.
“Hey, you’re full already?!”
Pei Yisheng’s words, barely louder than a whisper, were carried away by the wind. “You look like a small fry, how do you eat so little.”
He tucked the sausage into his pocket, stood up, and prepared to head to the cafeteria.
Sensing he was about to leave, Qin Zhou immediately strode forward, draped his arm over Pei Yisheng’s shoulder, and steered him into a sheltered spot.
The sky was just turning a sliver of fish-belly white. Pei Yisheng’s face was indistinct under the weak light in front of the dorm building, but Qin Zhou could still see his nose was slightly red, and his almond eyes were wide and round, just like the little calico cat he had just fed.
“Why didn’t you reply to my WeChat?” Qin Zhou asked bluntly.
Pei Yisheng mumbled, “I, I didn’t see it. I fell asleep as soon as I got into bed.”
“Then look now.” Qin Zhou’s arm was still resting on Pei Yisheng’s shoulder. The semi-enveloping posture was not only intensely oppressive but also effectively blocked the wind.
Pei Yisheng shifted his shoulder, failing to shake Qin Zhou off. He had no choice but to pull out his phone. The WeChat interface was clean; all messages were marked as read. He had actually seen the message yesterday, but his mind had been sluggish, so he hadn’t replied. If he had known Qin Zhou would corner him early in the morning to ask about it, he definitely would have replied!
Pei Yisheng awkwardly licked his lips, and Qin Zhou’s gaze fell upon the moist curve of his mouth.
“I know everything you said. I’ll be careful, I promise.”
Pei Yisheng’s voice still carried the soft sweetness of just waking up. When he quietly promised Qin Zhou, he was so obedient and gentle that it was impossible to criticize him harshly.
Qin Zhou felt awkward all over. He quietly removed his arm from Pei Yisheng and didn’t know where to look. “I was serious. Wen Xiuyun and Song Wen are both bad news. No matter how attentive they are to you, it’s fake. Don’t let them fool you.”
Pei Yisheng nodded obediently. He could tell that Qin Zhou was a bit of a chauvinist and didn’t like being contradicted. Coincidentally, he agreed with Qin Zhou on this matter, so he didn’t mind humoring Qin Zhou and saying things he wanted to hear.
“I know. I understand them better than the other students.”
Qin Zhou suddenly remembered that Pei Yisheng was once the child of a prominent family in A City. It was impossible that he hadn’t heard of the conduct of the Wen and Song families. Even if Pei Yisheng himself hadn’t fully integrated into the second-generation circle because the Pei family rose to prominence later, Pei Yisheng’s obedient and sensible nature was the kind of excellence praised by all parents.
At the very least, he wasn’t missing any limbs or causing trouble for his family.
Qin Zhou scoffed, thinking of something, and told Pei Yisheng, “It’s good that you know. You had better follow through.”
With that, Qin Zhou left, leaving Pei Yisheng bewildered in the corner that had suddenly lost its windbreak.
Having been delayed for this short time, the day was almost fully bright. Pei Yisheng hurried off to eat breakfast. He had class after breakfast, and after class, he had to rush to rehearsal.
There were only a few days left until the performance. Pei Yisheng could clearly feel the tense atmosphere in the rehearsal room. Everyone wanted to achieve a good result. With this drive, everyone was rehearsing with more effort.
Pei Yisheng wiped the sweat from his forehead, satisfied with the bustling energy in the rehearsal room. Whether he could move out early depended entirely on this performance!
Su Yiyi finished his part and ran over to Pei Yisheng with two water cups. “Here, I brewed some floral tea. It’s sweet and fragrant and delicious.”
Pei Yisheng was thirsty. He had left in too much of a hurry this morning to grab his thermos, and the water he bought was long gone. He took Su Yiyi’s floral tea and gulped down a good amount.
“Drink less. We have to try on the costumes later. They’ve been newly altered, don’t get a thick waist and not be able to fit into them,” Su Yiyi knew exactly how much trouble the people in their class could cause.
Pei Yisheng glanced at his unchanged stomach. “It should be fine.”
“I can’t explain it to you,” Su Yiyi waved his hand. “Hey, what’s that? Is Song Wen here to deliver food again?!”
Song Wen was even more high-profile than last time. Not only was he followed by a food cart, but he was also holding a bouquet of flowers. It wasn’t overly extravagant—it was a beautiful bouquet of perfectly bloomed yellow lilies.
He bypassed the crowd and walked straight up to Pei Yisheng. His seductive, peach-blossom eyes gazed at Pei Yisheng with deep affection. “Sheng Sheng, wishing you all a smooth performance.”
The area immediately around Pei Yisheng was quiet, everyone silently watching the drama unfold. The students further out were already whispering behind the cover of the front rows.
Pei Yisheng simply accepted the flowers and said openly, “Thank you. I’ll find a vase and display them later. They’re beautiful and will freshen the air.”
Song Wen was dissatisfied with his reply, but in front of so many people, he couldn’t bring himself to lower his status and speak subserviently to Pei Yisheng or play ambiguous games. People usually flocked to him; he had never been this proactive.
Even Fang Xin, who seemed fresh and stubborn, had been brought down by just two or three days of sugar-coated bullets, turning into a soft puddle for him to mold. But now, Song Wen watched helplessly as Pei Yisheng laughed and chatted with everyone, then handed the flowers to the nearest person and went out to find a vase.
While doubting his own charm, he forced a smile. “Everyone, please eat something to replenish your energy.” After saying that, he followed the direction Pei Yisheng had gone.
Since the people involved had left, everyone gossiped without restraint. Someone immediately exaggerated, “What good karma did Pei Yisheng burn? This is the first time I’ve seen Song Wen chasing after someone!”
“That’s hilarious. Why does that sound like something a wealthy family’s butler would say? ‘Ah, it’s been so long since I’ve seen the young master smile so happily~'”
“Ew~”
These were the pure gossip-mongers.
“He truly doesn’t know how lucky he is. They’re all the same type, why is he playing hard to get?”
“Exactly. He really thinks he’s hot stuff, wanting everyone to take a bite, without checking if he’s even worthy of the table.”
These were the ones who disliked Pei Yisheng.
Su Yiyi held the flowers, turning around anxiously. That scoundrel Song Wen was really going to corrupt his little cabbage!
He put the flowers on the ground and chased after the direction the two had gone.
Pei Yisheng hadn’t gone far, but he didn’t really want to go back. He sat in the rest area of the main hall. Soon, he saw Song Wen walking quickly toward him.
“Sheng Sheng, are you unhappy?”
Pei Yisheng’s clear pupils reflected Song Wen’s image. Song Wen found this incredibly rare. In the past, other people’s eyes were also full of him, and the affection in them was much deeper than Pei Yisheng’s current expression, but he never paid attention. Only when Pei Yisheng looked at him did Song Wen feel a surge of emotion.
Pei Yisheng shook his head, then nodded. “A little. You interrupted our rehearsal, and it will affect everyone’s state.”
“I’m sorry. I just acted on impulse. I don’t have much experience. If you don’t like it, I won’t do it next time,” Song Wen said with a cheerful smile.
Pei Yisheng sighed inwardly at Song Wen’s cleverness.
He had done so much and created such a spectacle, yet he hadn’t said a single word about taking their relationship further, treating it only as friendship. As a friend, it was difficult for Pei Yisheng to refuse, or more people would call him “ungrateful.”
“Then promise me that you won’t be so high-profile in the future. I find it very troubling, and I’m quite sensitive. Everyone’s gossip makes me lose sleep and appetite. Although I know you don’t mean to harm me, you should understand the principle of ‘A man is innocent, but his possession of a treasure makes him guilty,’ right?”
Song Wen tilted his head, looked at Pei Yisheng for a while, and then burst out laughing. “Understood, Sheng Sheng.”
Su Yiyi arrived just in time. As soon as the two finished talking, Pei Yisheng saw Su Yiyi’s peering figure. He told Song Wen, “My friend is here, so I’ll be leaving now.”
“Mhm.” Song Wen leaned back lazily in his chair, showing no intention of getting up.
Su Yiyi stood still when he saw Pei Yisheng walking toward him. Only when they reached a distance where Song Wen definitely couldn’t hear them did Su Yiyi complain, “Song Wen’s move is so tacky. All he does is throw money around, with no real sincerity. Sheng Sheng, are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Pei Yisheng smiled. Although he hadn’t been able to clarify things completely with Song Wen, it wasn’t a total loss.
When they returned, the atmosphere was still a little off, but generally harmonious. Pei Yisheng didn’t mind. His rehearsal tasks for the day were finished, and he was waiting to try on the costumes. Because there were few changing rooms and ladies had priority, Pei Yisheng would have to wait about half an hour to change.
He and Su Yiyi found a corner to sit in and quickly passed the time playing on their phones.
“We’ve seen this set. It’s a bit small.”
“How about this one? The facilities are good, but it’s a bit far from school.”
“This one is a bit out of my budget. If I live here, I won’t be able to buy bling-bling jewelry.”
“How about the first one we saw? It’s cheap and close by, just too retro. The landlord said we can make minor modifications. If we come up with a design, we won’t have to worry about it being uncomfortable, right?”
Su Yiyi and Pei Yisheng hadn’t been idle. They had settled on the apartment they wanted to rent. It was only a few hundred meters from the school, on the first floor with a small courtyard. You couldn’t tell much in the winter, but in spring, summer, and autumn, it would be beautiful with some flowers and plants. The space was decent, and they could even have outdoor barbecues.
Pei Yisheng was quite satisfied. He thought that once he had a place to live, perhaps he could bring Mibao back.
“Pei Yisheng, come try on the costume quickly. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll alter it now.”
Pei Yisheng snapped out of his pleasant daydream. “Coming!”
