    Chapter 22

“So you took me to the mountain desperately?”

“Look at the stars.” Chi Huang turned around and pointed to the east. “Look, the moon has risen.”

Following the direction he pointed, Chen Shilu saw a transparent moon as thin as cicada wings, and estimated that it was around the 15th day of the lunar calendar.

He couldn’t understand Chi Huang’s intention. He remembered what Fu Lei had said before, and his mood became not so good. He simply asked directly: “Are you trying to chase me?”

“Huh?” Chi Huang was more surprised than him, “No, why do you think so.”

“You are looking at the stars and the moon. What are you doing?”

“Can’t friends watch it together? I thought friends should share fun with each other. I’ve been to your house and learned about your life and hobbies. But as far as I know, this is the only place I can use, so I brought you here.”

Seeing Chen Shilu’s frown getting tighter, Chi Huang was a little at a loss: “Did I do something wrong again? Sorry, I’m not very good at making friends with people.”

“You’re not good at making friends with people? Why don’t I believe it?”

“Look, you just don’t understand me very well. We should really take this opportunity to have a good chat.”

Chi Huang opened the trunk and took out the alcohol stove and folding pot: “Let’s just eat tonight. I’ve eaten the food you cooked several times, and I’ll cook it for you today.”

Chen Shilu watched him put the pot and stove on the shelf, poured two bottles of water into the pot, and then took out several bags of instant noodles from the trunk.

Before getting off work, Chen Shilu planned a big meal for himself. Now after a bumpy journey, I still want to eat this kind of food.

He said unhappily: “What do I cook for you to eat, and you are going to give me this?”

“What does it matter? It’s good if you can eat enough.” After speaking, Chi Huang took out a pack of vegetables and a few eggs from the trunk, “Besides, I don’t know anything else.”

“You don’t know how, and neither does the restaurant chef?”

Chi Huang was stunned for a moment, then realized: “So are you that kind of person? I thought you valued the process and your heart more. I would be more sincere if I cooked it for you myself.”

Chen Shilu did value other people’s thoughts more than material things, but he didn’t think Chi Huang’s move was sincere. In other words, he was showing sincerity, but Chen Shilu didn’t know what his actual purpose was.

The water is boiling. Chi Huang takes apart the vegetables and puts them into the water.

Chen Shilu quickly stopped him with quick eyes and hands: “Put the bread first, why don’t you wash the vegetables?”

“Isn’t this kind of plastic bag with a no-wash seal?”

“Who told you it’s no-wash? Bring a bottle of water.”

After washing the dishes, Chen Shilu discovered that Chi Huang’s claim that he could cook instant noodles was a lie. In fact, even if he cracked an egg, he would either spill egg liquid all over the floor or sprinkle a pot of egg shells.

If he keeps tossing him like this, Chen Shilu will be able to eat the pot noodles.

He squeezed Chi Huang away: “I’ll do it.” It was really hard to hold back the sarcastic words, “You can survive till now with all your beards and tails. You really have to thank our developed food delivery industry.”

Chi Huang admitted it and smiled apologetically.

It was hard to cook the noodles.Chen Shilu took a spoonful of noodle soup and tasted it. It was just enough to eat.Just as he was about to take the pot off the fire, Chi Huang handed over another jar of chili sauce and a few slices of cheese: “If you put these two in, it will taste better.”

A person who couldn’t cook instant noodles still knew how to make Korean instant noodles. Chen Shilu was a little curious: “Who told you this?”

    “I have a Korean classmate.”

“You also went to South Korea to study.” Chen Shilu asked casually, and then added, “Bring two bowls here.”

    “…”

Seeing that he didn’t move, Chen Shilu repeated: “It’s done, bring a bowl to serve.”

    “No bowl.”

“…Then how do you plan to eat?”

Chi Huang hesitated for a moment and then came up with an idea: “You use the pot, and I’ll cover it with the lid.”

    That’s all.

Chen Shilu asked him to get another pair of chopsticks. Chi Huang scratched his hair and said, “I forgot the chopsticks too. I only have this pair that matches the pot.”

Chen Shilu was really convinced.Chi Huang was also a little embarrassed. He left the platform and came back quickly with two branches in his hand.

Chen Shilu didn’t want to say a word, but he was not allowed to put his branch chopsticks into the pot. He would help pick the noodles into the lid of the pot he was holding.

The two of them sat on the faded and damaged wooden chairs, sharing a pot of Korean instant noodles in a very embarrassed manner.

The setting sun completely disappeared behind the mountains. The mountain breeze blew gently. The full moon continues to climb, turning from light and thin in the evening to hard and white.Several nearby stars were also lit.

If this was a tryst in the mountains and forests led by Chen Shilu, accompanied by the bright moon and the clear breeze, it would definitely be very romantic. But since Chi Huang had prepared it, people were left speechless.

The only thing that was pleasant was that Chi Huang’s embarrassment of eating noodles with tree branches made Chen Shilu laugh inwardly. He didn’t laugh out loud because Chi Huang gave up his only chopsticks.

“I have never been to South Korea. When I was a child, I went to an international school with students from various countries.”

Chen Shilu just asked casually, and Chi Huang continued the topic after such a long time.

“If you go to an international school, then your family is quite rich.”

    “Well, that’s right.”

Chen Shilu thought to himself, no wonder, it turned out to be the rich second generation of waste.

He asked, “What do your parents do?”

“My father is an entrepreneur, and my mother is an actor…” Chen Shilu was about to ask what his mother’s acting roles were, but before he could ask, Chi Huang said, “…but they are no longer here.”

    “No more?”

“Both died in a car accident when I was fifteen.”

    “…”

“Originally, high school planned to send me to the United States, but it didn’t happen, but I didn’t want to go myself.”

Chen Shilu felt a little guilty for no reason. He should not have prejudged Chi Huang as a useless snack.Although this statement is correct, it should not be easy to lose your parents at the age of 15 and grow up alone.

He was not good at handling this kind of conversation. He cleared his throat and said, “It’s good to study in the United States. Why don’t you want to go?”

“Because all my friends are in China, and I don’t want to go to a strange place.” Chi Huang suddenly thought of something, “I had a lot of friends at that time, and I don’t know how I made them all. But now I don’t have any friends, and I can’t fit in anywhere.”

Chen Shilu could guess what was going on.

Chi Huang’s appearance and demeanor are a double hatred among men. It is difficult for men who fail in the male competition not to blame him for the suffocated anger of not being favored by women. As for women, serious women will not approach him, and women who approach him will not want to be friends with him.

“Friends are not that important. At this stage of my life, even good friends in the past will gradually stop contacting me. Life is a journey that must be completed alone.”

    “But wouldn’t it be lonely?”

“Loneliness is the normal state of life, but everyone thinks it is abnormal, so they sacrifice and endure in order to find companions.” Chen Shilu sighed, “It is very painful to sacrifice and endure. The most painful thing is to think that you have found a companion and you are still lonely.”

Chi Huang lowered his chopsticks and stared at him without blinking.

Chen Shilu also felt a little embarrassed because he said too much.

Chi Huang lowered his eyes and looked at his noodle pot: “Do you still want to eat? If not, give it to me.”

He drank up all the remaining soup and water, put the stove, pot and garbage back into the trunk, and took out an LED hanging light from the trunk.

The sky had completely darkened. Chi Huang sat back where he was before and hung the unscrewed lamp on the back of the wooden chair between the two of them.

The warm yellow light created an atmosphere of tea chatting around the fire. He asked Chen Shilu: “They are all talking about me, what about you?”

“I have nothing to say, a boring middle-aged man.”

“No, I think you’re very interesting.”

Chen Shilu didn’t know why Chi Huang found him interesting. To be fair, none of his character, work, and life were interesting. To be interesting, it would be Chi Huang’s twists and turns and his life that deviates from the mainstream that can be considered interesting.

    “Where are your parents?”

“My parents are very ordinary and live in a small county.”

    “Are you an only child?”

    Chen Shilu shook his head.

“Aren’t you? I think you look like an only child, the kind who is pampered by the whole family.”

“I have a brother and a sister.” Chen Shilu said.Contrary to what Chi Huang feels, he happens to be the most neglected middle child in the family.

His brother is six years older than him. Before he was born, he was used to being the only child in the family and enjoying all the attention and love. The mother gave birth to him because she already had a son and wanted a daughter. Unexpectedly, she became pregnant with a son. However, when he was two years old, his mother gave birth to another daughter, and her long-cherished wish finally came true.

He grew up with the scoldings of being unable to overtake his elder brother and giving in to his younger sister. On the day when his sister moved from her parents’ room to his room, he also moved into his brother’s room. He didn’t even have bunk beds and only used a simple camp bed to occupy a corner of his brother’s room. From that day on, he became a “loan” in the family. There was no place that belonged to him anymore. If he messed with his brother at any time, he would be kicked out.

When he was in middle school, he was forced to live on campus. Other students complained, but he was the only one who was particularly happy. After returning home during the holidays, he would live on the sofa in the living room, and this was the case until he went to college.

“How is your relationship with your siblings?”

Chi Huang’s question brought him back to reality: “It’s just average, I can’t say it’s good or bad.”

“It turns out that parents with the same parents may not have a good relationship.”

He didn’t know what Chi Huang meant by this exclamation. He was just a little confused that the two of them suddenly talked so deeply. At the same time, he felt uncomfortable because they talked about his family relationship and youth frustrations.

Chi Huang didn’t ask any more questions, turned off the light, and darkness enveloped him.Different from the darkness in the city, the darkness in the mountains is a thicker black that has not been tempered by lights, and seems to be able to swallow everything, which makes Chen Shilu very uncomfortable.

He asked Chi Huang to turn on the light, but Chi Huang pointed to the sky: “Look, the stars are out.”

Chen Shilu looked up and saw small bright spots all over the sky.As he stared longer, the bright spots became clearer and shimmered brightly.

The moon is also rounder and brighter, its cool halo illuminates the surrounding clouds, and casts a mist-like light on the world. The thick darkness faded away, and the human world it swallowed was spat out again. The shadows of the trees in the mountains are dancing, and the outlines of the surrounding platforms, benches, and Chihuang’s motorcycle are all clearly visible.

Also clearly outlined and vaguely visible is Chi Huang’s face.He leaned back in his chair and raised his head as if immersed in the endless starry sky.

    Chen Shilu was suddenly confused.

He didn’t know what they were doing. They exchanged information about their family situations, revealed some past setbacks and injuries, and even awakened the biggest trauma in Chen Shilu’s life – his family and growth that he had never mentioned to anyone.

Now suddenly talking about this to Chi Huang made him a little overwhelmed.

He needs to find a reason for all this, find an outlet for all these emotions, all of which must have a purpose. The kind of relationship that shares the deepest secrets of the heart for no reason scares him.

He held the back of Chi Huang’s head and turned his gaze towards the starry sky towards him.

In Chi Huang’s blank eyes, he kissed him.

Chi Huang staggered his breathing: “Chen Shilu, you are not…”

“Do it.” He sat on Chi Huang’s lap and stopped him from talking with a deeper kiss.
