Chapter 9 Attending the Dating Show

    Chapter Nine

Hearing the sound from outside the door, Pei Huaixue shot up from the bed.

Because the movement was too sudden, he felt dizzy, his vision went black, and he almost fell back down.

Pei Huaixue raised his hand, pressing his knuckles against his brow bone and gently rubbing it until he recovered.

The knocking outside the door hadn’t stopped.

Gu Minghe had been standing outside, knocking for quite a while.

Pei Huaixue immediately adopted an ostrich mentality, afraid to face him.

He hadn’t expected Gu Minghe to find him so quickly.

Fortunately, the old fingerprint lock was broken, and Pei Huaixue had replaced it and re-recorded all the fingerprints, which was why Gu Minghe couldn’t get in.

“Pei Huaixue, I know you live here. You’re sick right now, please open the door and let me check on you, okay?”

Gu Minghe softened his tone, as if afraid of scaring the person inside. His voice became gentle, yet still sounded somewhat urgent.

Pei Huaixue weakly stood up, swaying as he walked to the door, instinctively wanting to open it for Gu Minghe.

The moment his hand grasped the doorknob, he suddenly remembered something, his body trembled, and he quickly withdrew his hand.

No, he couldn’t meet Gu Minghe.

He couldn’t get too close to Gu Minghe.

Pei Huaixue stumbled backward, accidentally bumping his waist against the shoe cabinet behind him. He let out a painful whimper, immediately covering his waist and hunching over, his face instantly turning pale.

“Pei Huaixue, what’s wrong? Did you hit something?”

Gu Minghe heard the commotion inside, his expression changing. His knocking became frantic and aggressive.

Pei Huaixue didn’t make a sound for a long time.

He leaned against the wall, taking a long time to recover, before speaking in a shaky, slightly breathless voice, “Gu Minghe, please go back. I don’t want to see you right now.”

His breathing was ragged, and his voice was very hoarse, the words sounding cruel and heartless.

Silence reigned outside the door for a while.

It was so quiet that Pei Huaixue thought Gu Minghe had left. He let out a short, bitter chuckle, his heart aching slightly.

He was the one who told Gu Minghe to leave, yet when the person actually left, he felt sad and upset.

Pei Huaixue sniffled, holding back his tears.

Tears welled up in his eyes, reddening the corners, making him look fragile and pitiful.

He stood up, ready to return to his room, but then Gu Minghe’s steady, calm voice sounded outside the door again.

“You don’t want to see me, but do you want to see Gu Yanchen?”

    Pei Huaixue froze.

“If it were Gu Yanchen, would you be willing to open the door and let him in?” Gu Minghe’s voice was flat, without a hint of emotion, as if being shut out by Pei Huaixue was no big deal to him.

Pei Huaixue shook his head. He wanted to say no, that wasn’t the case, but in the end, he could only bite his lip and let out a soft sob.

“Don’t cry. I’ll ask him to come see you.”

Gu Minghe placed the lunch box and a bag of medicine he was holding down by the door. “I’ve left the food and medicine here for you. Remember to come out and get them later. You shouldn’t take medicine on an empty stomach, so eat first. I’m leaving now.”

After a rustling sound, Gu Minghe’s retreating footsteps followed.

Pei Huaixue’s body was tense, tears had long since escaped his control, soaking his entire face. After a long time, he walked to the door and looked through the video doorbell, seeing that the area outside was empty. Only then was he sure that Gu Minghe had truly left.

His heart felt hollow, a feeling he couldn’t quite describe.

Pei Huaixue opened the door and brought in the things Gu Minghe had left for him.

Gu Minghe had made Pei Huaixue his favorite home-cooked dishes and even simmered chicken soup, which was still steaming hot.

Pei Huaixue’s stomach was rumbling. It was fine when he wasn’t eating, but the moment he smelled the aroma of the food, he couldn’t resist.

He picked up his chopsticks and ate slowly, bite by bite.

Knowing that Gu Minghe had made this for him, he ate very carefully.

He had a small appetite, and even though he was very full, he couldn’t finish the entire lunch box of food.

He was reluctant to leave it uneaten, so he kept eating until he was so stuffed he nearly threw up, finally stopping.

He carefully put the leftovers into the refrigerator.

His Husband had made this for him, and he didn’t know when he would get to eat it again, so he couldn’t waste it.

Afterward, he took out the full bag of medicine Gu Minghe had bought for him.

Since Gu Minghe didn’t know exactly what illness he had, he had brought a variety of medications based on how he usually took care of him.

There were fever reducers, cold medicine, painkillers, and medicine for bloating. Pei Huaixue sorted through them, took out a box of fever reducers, and obediently took the medicine.

After eating and taking the medicine, Pei Huaixue felt slightly better than before.

He lay on the sofa and played games for a while. As the medicine took effect, drowsiness crept in.

Pei Huaixue yawned, his eyelids drooping. Just as he was about to fall asleep, the doorbell rang again.

He woke up with a start.

He thought Gu Minghe had returned, but the person this time was Gu Yanchen.

Pei Huaixue checked the video doorbell and confirmed that only Gu Yanchen was outside before opening the door.

“Elder Brother, why are you here?”

Gu Yanchen entered the house and changed his shoes. Seeing Pei Huaixue’s sick face, red eyes, and overall pale and haggard appearance, his eyes filled with worry. “Minghe told me you were sick and asked me to come check on you. How are you? Feeling better?”

It had only been a few days since they last met. How had he managed to wear himself out like this?

No wonder Gu Minghe looked like the sky was falling when he called him earlier.

So, Gu Minghe had asked Gu Yanchen to come.

Pei Huaixue felt the painful knot in his heart loosen slightly, knowing that Gu Minghe was concerned about him.

“I just took medicine. I’m much better now.”

Gu Yanchen clearly didn’t believe him.

He took out a thermometer and had Pei Huaixue take his temperature. Finding that he still had a fever, he asked how many days he had been sick. Upon learning it had been three to five days, he couldn’t help but scold him angrily.

“Pei Huaixue, are you still a child? You’re this old and still can’t take care of yourself. I’m not Gu Minghe; I won’t indulge your every whim. Get up and change your clothes now. You’re coming to the hospital with me.”

Pei Huaixue obediently got up, not daring to throw a tantrum in front of Gu Yanchen.

Since childhood, Gu Yanchen had been like an older brother to him—kind, but also very authoritative.

When he and Gu Minghe were mischievous as children and got caught by Gu Yanchen, they would both be punished with standing still.

When Gu Minghe got tired of standing, he would let Pei Huaixue lean on his back, and he would even massage his feet when they went to bed at night.

Thinking of Gu Minghe, a wave of sweetness washed over Pei Huaixue.

That’s why he couldn’t understand why the Pei Huaixue in the book would fall in love with Gu Yanchen.

Gu Yanchen was too fierce; he could only be his brother, not his Husband.

Pei Huaixue was dragged to the hospital by Gu Yanchen and made to sit down for an IV drip.

Because he had work to attend to, Gu Yanchen didn’t stay with him. Before leaving, he only asked, “What exactly happened between you and Minghe? Why the sudden divorce, and why are you avoiding him? Did Minghe bully you?”

Pei Huaixue shook his head. “No, it’s my own problem. It has nothing to do with him.”

Gu Yanchen sighed. “Forget it. I won’t interfere in your business. I don’t have time to manage you two right now.”

He still had his own scores to settle with Su Jin.

After Gu Yanchen left, Pei Huaixue sat alone on a long bench in the hospital corridor, receiving his IV drip in solitude.

In the past, whenever he was sick, Gu Minghe was always by his side.

Pei Huaixue had a delicate nature and was very afraid of injections. Gu Minghe always had to coax him into getting them. Today, Gu Yanchen accompanied him, and Gu Yanchen didn’t spoil him like Gu Minghe did. He just gave him a cold glance, and Pei Huaixue could only obediently suppress his fear and extend his arm.

The moment the needle pierced his skin, Pei Huaixue realized that maybe injections weren’t that painful after all.

He had only thought it was a terrifying thing because he was used to whining and asking Gu Minghe for comfort.

Pei Huaixue thought about this, tilting his head and involuntarily closing his eyes to sleep.

He didn’t notice that at the end of the corridor, a tall figure stood, quietly watching him, never leaving.

“Nurse, his bottle is finished. It’s time to change the medication.”

Gu Minghe called the nurse over and asked her to change Pei Huaixue’s IV bag.

Pei Huaixue was still asleep and didn’t notice Gu Minghe’s presence.

When he woke up again, he saw that the pole, which originally held three bags of medicine, now only had the last one remaining, almost finished.

He wondered, who helped him change the medicine?

When the last bag was done and the nurse removed the needle, Pei Huaixue couldn’t help but ask.

The nurse smiled. “Didn’t your Elder Brother ask me to change the medicine for you?”

    Elder Brother?

    Gu Yanchen?

Pei Huaixue thought about it. It could only be him.

Gu Yanchen must have returned briefly in the middle.

After getting the IV drip at the hospital, Pei Huaixue’s fever finally subsided. After resting at home for a few more days, the day of the official program recording finally arrived.

Let’s Fall in Love! is a show focusing on gay relationships, broadcast live entirely through the Fruit TV app.

It had already recorded two seasons and was very popular in the country, so the third season attracted nationwide attention as soon as it was about to air.

Everyone was speculating about which guests would be invited this season.

Even before the show started, tens of thousands of viewers were already waiting in the live stream room.

-Didn’t they say recording starts at ten? Why hasn’t it started yet? What is the production team doing?

-It’s so slow. Does anyone have insider info on the guest list they can share?

-I heard the people invited this time are very dramatic and newsworthy! A certain popular CP online will be attending together!

This comment immediately piqued everyone’s curiosity, and everyone began guessing who it could be.

-The hottest CP right now is Gu Yanchen and Su Jin, right? Are they coming to a dating show?

-I heard it might be them too!

-If they’re really on, I’m definitely watching the show!

Seeing the names Gu Yanchen and Su Jin, everyone’s anticipation soared.

Just then, the quiet live stream room finally showed some activity.

The Heartbeat Cabin location this time was a seaside villa. A black luxury car stopped at the entrance of the villa area, and the camera focused on the person getting out.

The first thing that came into view was a pair of long legs encased in suit trousers. The man, wearing a camel-colored casual suit, stepped out of the car. His face was stern, a pair of gold-rimmed glasses rested on his high nose bridge, and his eyes were calm and sharp, exuding the powerful aura of a superior.

-Ahhh, it’s Gu Yanchen! It really is him! Does that mean the news about Su Jin attending the dating show is also true?!

-We can ship the Leopard and the Cat again on the show!

Gu Yanchen was the first to arrive at the Heartbeat Cabin. He pulled his suitcase and walked into the villa. Seeing that no one else had arrived yet, he casually found a seat on the sofa.

    Soon, the second guest appeared.

When Su Jin, wearing an off-white sweater and khaki trousers, appeared in the live stream, countless fans flooded the screen.

    -Ahhh, Mommy is here!

-Xiao Jin’s outfit today is so gentle, still so handsome!

-Remember to call Su Jin “Wife”~

-So, is CEO Gu here to chase his wife on a dating show? Otherwise, I can’t imagine why the CEO of the Gu Corporation would need a dating show to find a partner.

-Gu Yanchen must have hurt Su Jin’s feelings with too many recent scandals, so Su Jin is attending the dating show. CEO Gu is definitely going through a wife-chasing crematorium~

    -Love to see it!

-It’s all the fault of that little slut Pei Huaixue! If he hadn’t interfered with the Gu-Su CP, the Leopard and the Cat wouldn’t be having a spat!

Seeing the comments take a turn and start insulting Pei Huaixue again, someone couldn’t help but say, “Can we stop mentioning him? An influencer trying to piggyback on the Trending Search, how unlucky!”

Just as they were speaking, the third guest made an appearance.

The car door opened, and a pair of long, straight legs appeared in the frame. It was already autumn, and the cold wind was bleak. Although not as cold as winter, it was enough to make people add long sleeves and trousers. However, this guest was going against the norm, wearing shorts with bare legs.

The smooth, delicate long legs were suddenly exposed to everyone. The skin was as white as snow, and the knees were pink and tender, like peeled lychees, without any unnecessary dullness.

As if suddenly exposed to the cold autumn wind, the owner of the legs shivered. The camera continued upward, revealing a slender, snow-white waist. The silver chain tied around his waist swayed with his movements, making viewers feel parched.

    Netizens immediately started screaming.

-Such straight, thin legs, such a soft waist! I bet this is a great beauty!

-Move aside, everyone! Don’t stop me from licking the screen!

-That waist chain is simply divine!

-Dressing so provocatively, is he here to seduce me?

-Wait, isn’t this third male guest cold?

Not only was the young man wearing shorts on the bottom, but his upper body was clad in a pink and white striped T-shirt that exposed both his navel and shoulders. His porcelain-white, smooth collarbones and round, pink shoulders were also exposed to the air.

He was dressed in a way that was both provocative and sweet, clearly prioritizing style over warmth.

-Holy crap, isn’t this male guest trying too hard? Hope he’s not one of those shrimp-like men who look good only from the neck down!

-Is he planning to go all out on this dating show?

    -So hot, I love it.

Netizens were already hooked by the camera work and couldn’t wait to see the true face of the third male guest.

The camera stopped playing coy and focused on his face.

It was a face so beautiful it made hearts skip a beat. His face was tiny, his features delicate and defined, and a pair of enchanting, amorous peach blossom eyes captivated the soul. He lightly bit his rosy lips, his brows slightly furrowed, as if enduring something.

The next second, the young man sneezed at the camera, then wrapped his arms around himself, shivering as if frozen. Goosebumps appeared on his snow-white skin.

He rubbed his arms until he felt a little better, then slowly and reluctantly got out of the car.

That beautiful, yet somewhat sickly pale face was now fully visible.

    It was Pei Huaixue.
