Chapter Index

The reason Gu Shenyuan pretended to faint was his certainty that Ye Qingyun wouldn’t abandon him.

He guessed correctly. Ye Qingyun definitely didn’t leave him to fend for himself. Instead, he landed the aircraft and anxiously searched for medicine to treat him.

Ye Qingyun was too soft-hearted; he couldn’t bear to see others die. If it were Gu Shenyuan, encountering someone stronger than him who insisted on following him—someone he disliked—he would seize the opportunity to kill that person.

Gu Shenyuan had always scoffed at such benevolence, but now that Ye Qingyun was treating him this way, he felt a certain secret pleasure.

Gu Shenyuan allowed Ye Qingyun to help him up and out of the flying machine, leaning his entire weight onto Ye Qingyun to absorb the warm body heat.

After walking for a while, Gu Shenyuan heard Ye Qingyun conversing with someone, and then heard more people gathering nearby.

The people were speaking a rare language that Gu Shenyuan happened to have learned while researching data, so he could understand them.

He heard them discussing taking Ye Qingyun away to present him to some so-called “God.”

    Heh, God?

Even if it were a god, anyone who tried to take Ye Qingyun away from him would face only one outcome.

It was time for him to wake up.

But before Gu Shenyuan could open his eyes, he heard Ye Qingyun speak.

Ye Qingyun claimed they had slept together.

Gu Shenyuan wasn’t stupid; a moment’s thought told him this was a lie Ye Qingyun fabricated to avoid being taken away.

In the past, Gu Shenyuan absolutely hated it when people slandered him in this regard. He wouldn’t even harbor feelings of admiration, let alone engage in something only done when emotions ran deep.

Anyone he heard boasting about having a relationship with him, without exception, had died.

But hearing Ye Qingyun say it now, Gu Shenyuan didn’t feel the usual disgust.

It doesn’t matter. Gu Shenyuan thought. Let him say it; it’s not a big deal.

But Ye Qingyun didn’t stop there. Next, Gu Shenyuan felt something soft and warm press against his cheek.

    Ye Qingyun was kissing him.

The proximity was too intimate. Gu Shenyuan’s years of repulsion toward outsiders made him instinctively gather his Ability at his fingertips, but he quickly canceled it when he realized what was happening.

    He… didn’t feel disgusted.

And then, Gu Shenyuan heard Ye Qingyun’s earth-shattering declaration of him being his “Old Gong.”

Gu Shenyuan couldn’t hold back any longer. He opened his eyes, wanting to see the expression on Ye Qingyun’s face.

Ye Qingyun stared back at Gu Shenyuan, his face frozen: “…”

Oh my god! Gu Shenyuan was awake!

How much did Gu Shenyuan hear? Was he about to die immediately?

Ye Qingyun instantly put distance between himself and Gu Shenyuan, letting go of the hand supporting him, no longer caring if it aroused suspicion among the villagers.

Then Ye Qingyun watched as Gu Shenyuan coughed, swayed, and leaned back onto him, seemingly without any intention of attacking.

Good. It looked like Gu Shenyuan had just woken up and didn’t know what had happened moments before.

Ye Qingyun felt extremely fortunate, feeling as if he had just brushed past the Grim Reaper.

The surrounding villagers questioned him: “Aren’t you two a couple? Why did you make that face just now?”

Ye Qingyun expressionlessly asked Gu Shenyuan, “Do you understand what they are saying?”

    Gu Shenyuan shook his head.

Excellent. Now, no matter what nonsense he spouted, he wouldn’t be Breaking Character in front of Gu Shenyuan!

Ye Qingyun felt completely relieved. He sighed at the questioning villager and said mournfully, “Because we had a fight.”

    Villager: “A fight?”

“…That’s right.” Ye Qingyun looked at Gu Shenyuan and said in a heavy tone, “You see how weak he is right now? Do you know why?”

The villagers all shook their heads.

“Because his father… beat him half to death!” Ye Qingyun covered his face. “His father disagrees with him being with me. He said we are both men, and he absolutely refuses to let his son be with a man, or he’ll disown him.”

    Gu Shenyuan: “…”

“How could he do that! What happened next?” the villagers asked.

“I… I didn’t want him to have such strained relations with his family because of me, so I suggested we break up.” Ye Qingyun looked up at the sky sorrowfully. “He refused to break up, so he broke ties with his family, got beaten up, and came to elope with me. I disagreed, which caused a conflict between us.”

“Oh, young man, why are you like that?” a villager said angrily.

Ye Qingyun exclaimed loudly, “Am I wrong? What am I, that I’m worth him breaking ties with the parents who raised him? I only want him to have a happy family. Am I wrong?”

The surrounding villagers were already emotionally invested in Ye Qingyun’s story. They discussed heatedly for a moment, then bombarded Ye Qingyun with questions:

“Did you come here to elope?”

“Oh, hurry up and make up! You’re making us anxious. Didn’t he do all this for you?”

    “Is your partner seriously injured?”

Ye Qingyun lowered his eyes, his expression lonely and helpless, stating his ultimate goal: “He is quite seriously injured. Could you give us some medicine and a small room to stay in? Good deeds are rewarded. Once he recovers, we will try our best to repay everyone!”

The villagers, moved by compassion, discussed it for a while, then led Ye Qingyun and Gu Shenyuan to an unoccupied small house and gave them medicinal herbs for healing.

On the way to the house, Gu Shenyuan asked Ye Qingyun, “What did you tell them?”

Ye Qingyun faced Gu Shenyuan with an expressionless, stern tone, perfectly playing his Vicious Cannon Fodder role: “What business is it of yours? Hmph, listen up. I sleep on the big bed, you sleep on the small one. Since you dared to make me support you while walking, you better be prepared to work like an ox for me!”

Ye Qingyun expected Gu Shenyuan to ignore him after being rebuffed, but the look in Gu Shenyuan’s eyes showed no anger or coldness; it could even be described as gentle.

Ye Qingyun shivered. When he looked again, Gu Shenyuan had returned to his normal expression.

The villagers led them to the small wooden house and opened the door: “The owner of this house was the person ‘chosen by God’ last time, so the house has been empty. You just need to clean it up.”

Ye Qingyun thanked them and saw the villagers off, then looked inside the house.

The owner seemed to have fantasized about returning before leaving, so most of the items in the house were covered with dust sheets, making cleanup easy.

The layout of the house was simple; one glance was enough to see everything.

That’s how Ye Qingyun saw that there was only one bed in the house.

Yes, only one bed. There wasn’t even a sofa that could be used for sleeping.

How were he and Gu Shenyuan supposed to sleep?

According to his character setting, he should kick Gu Shenyuan out to sleep on the floor. According to reality, he wouldn’t dare make Gu Shenyuan, who could kill him with a single finger, sleep on the floor.

Gu Shenyuan pulled off the dust sheet inside and coughed lightly, sitting down on the bed.

This hint was too obvious—it definitely meant for him to be sensible and sleep on the floor, not to try and take the bed!

Ye Qingyun watched Gu Shenyuan for a moment, arms crossed, then turned to walk out.

“Where are you going?” Gu Shenyuan’s cold voice rang out.

“Where am I going? Of course, to find a place to rest. Didn’t you see there’s only one bed here?” Ye Qingyun said sarcastically.

As Ye Qingyun finished speaking and was about to leave, he heard Gu Shenyuan command, “Stop.”

Gu Shenyuan stood up from the bed: “You sleep here.”

Ye Qingyun turned back and saw Gu Shenyuan walk to a chair and sit down, resting one hand on the table, apparently intending to make do with resting there.

He wasn’t so heartless as to make an injured person sit on a hard chair while he happily slept in a bed! How could he possibly sleep like that!

Ye Qingyun continued walking toward the door. After only two steps, someone pressed down on his shoulder. He looked back and saw Gu Shenyuan staring at him gloomily, lips pressed into a thin line.

Gu Shenyuan held Ye Qingyun, wanting to ask why he still wanted to leave, why he couldn’t sleep here, and if he didn’t want to be in the same room as him.

But the moment he met Ye Qingyun’s gaze, looking into those warm eyes, a new thought flashed through Gu Shenyuan’s mind.

Ye Qingyun still wanted to leave, perhaps because he was concerned and didn’t want Gu Shenyuan to sleep sitting up.

With this thought, Gu Shenyuan blurted out: “The bed is big. Sleep together.”

Ye Qingyun: “Sleep together… Who wants to sleep with you???”

Seeing Ye Qingyun about to leave again, Gu Shenyuan quickly added: “One person on each side. No one crosses the middle line. It’s late. Don’t go disturbing others; it’s impolite.”

Ye Qingyun thought Gu Shenyuan had a point. He scratched his head and looked at the wide bed.

Since they had drawn a clear boundary, sleeping in the same bed should be fine… right?

    Midnight.

Gu Shenyuan opened his eyes and looked at the person lying not far away.

Ye Qingyun’s breathing was clearly audible. Gu Shenyuan hadn’t shared a bed with anyone for years and expected to feel extremely uncomfortable, but now he felt unexpectedly at peace.

…He didn’t reject Ye Qingyun’s support, didn’t reject Ye Qingyun’s kiss, and didn’t even reject lying in the same bed as Ye Qingyun.

Recalling Ye Qingyun’s string of lies, all just to secure a packet of medicinal herbs for him, he even felt quite happy.

    This was dangerous, too dangerous.

This was not good news for him. Logically and emotionally, he should distance himself from Ye Qingyun, lest he truly lose control of his feelings one day.

He should leave. Get up now, leave this small house, and rest outside.

The quietly sleeping Ye Qingyun turned over. One hand crossed the middle boundary and landed squarely in Gu Shenyuan’s open palm.

After making so many declarations about not crossing the line before sleeping, Ye Qingyun himself was the least disciplined sleeper.

Gu Shenyuan stared at the pitch-black ceiling, feeling the warm body temperature in his hand. The thought of getting up and leaving crumbled into dust.

He gently closed his fingers around the hand in his palm.
